Lamb chops were almost a staple diet in our house growing up. (The old 'meat and 3 veg'!)
I remember walking around to the butchers every couple of days… and paying $3.99kg.

      Except they were forequarters

      • +4

Yep and if you were lucky you got the one with the cut straight across the bone and could slurp the marrow out. At least, that's what Dad reckoned…

        • OMG you're right. I don't think you get those anymore in modern packs.

          • @Punkboy: Those cuts are probably sold to restaurants as osso buco is all the rage and I'm sure chefs can sell those good old chops we used to have as Aussie battlers now for $35+ a plate.

Loins mate, with the 'tails' (as I still call it today.)

        • +1

          Ah, your family was rich.

          • @Punkboy: Yep. I literally didn't even know loin chops existed until I left home and went to uni and started mixing with the kids of the well-to-do.

            • @wavesgreen: Yeah similar here with girlfriend after uni ha ha ha

guess I'm older than you - I remember moving into my first share house as a young adult and being outraged that rump steak had just gone up to $1/kg !

      • My mum used to buy lamb shanks for 20c to feed the dog lol

Meat prices will start to come down over the next few months. Particularly beef & lamb.

There has been greater supply into the industry and higher yields and lower export volumes..

They have been coming down and have hit the bottom in the cheap places like Wholefarmsmarket or pendlehillmeatmarket in Sydney. They have had great specials for the last 4 months.

If Coles really cared about their customers they would give these away.

  • Perfect for Australia Day.
    Always was, always will be.

    Special double price deal?!

  • I would buy some yearling rump at $13.99/kg at https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=762676682567278&set=pcb…

  • Back to what they should be given the price they are paying farmers…

These are my favourite too…. i usually wait for the $9/kg special at Pendle Hill Meat Market, then go and stock up.

My favourite seasoning for them is McCormick Steak Spice (not the Steak Seasoning one - has to be Steak Spice - hard to get these days… only stocked in some IGA's).

    • Thanks for the recommend. Any idea when they'll go on sale?

      • +1

Pendo meats in on fb and s.m.marketplaces as well nearby
They have their specials on fb regularly

Also get to cordina chickens down there

    • You're the second to mention Pendle Hill Meat Market. Is the quality good? The prices seem pretty good, but not fantastic enough for me to make the trip on that alone.

  • what do you guys make with this. recipe ideas pls :D

not being one to lambast a good deal, I reckon this is lambloodytastic !

also good for any escaped criminals who are on the lam, etc.

      That's a pretty flamboyant response.
