    • Thats a surface pro 6. about double the cost atm on ebay.

  • Does this keyboard have a strong hinge and hold the screen up if say the laptop was on your lap? Or does it need the rear stand resting on a flat surface?

    • The tablet has a built in kick-stand. The keyboard is just magnetically attached.

  • Would this possibly work as a home hub/digital photo frame with an Android Emulator?

  • oos unfortunately

  • Out of stock

  • the coupon code MSJAN15 doesn't work
    it show the original price

  • Anyone able to please explain why this is better than say the Lenovo M10 (recently on OzB at a similar price, or lower)?

Google seems to say the Lenovo M10 has much better specs but not sure if I'm missing something.

  • Buy now regret later. Bought one !!

  • +1

    OOS

    Only the B Grade left.

    • -4

That's what the seller is really after

    • Whats B grade?

      • read the post

        • Oh my bad. Missed the last line.
          Thanks

  • any upcoming deal on pro 6 please?

  • +1

I got one of these last time. Great device for the money. The downside for me was no USB C. So no USB C docks or chargers. The surface docks can be found pretty cheap, but then it means I have 2 docks (one USB C dock for work laptop), and a second power brick for the dock. Just something to keep in mind if you like things neat like me.

    • if you need to output the display i found a dongle from aliexpress that can do it from
      mini dp to hdmi

      • +1

Yeah, I have the mini DP cable already, it's the other stuff that I would have connected to a dock.

A single USB C dock with monitor, webcam, keyboard, mouse, and charger all connected is very convenient when switching between 2 devices

    • USBC charging is easy enough, just grab something like these adaptors or Cables.

  • Can you install Linux on this?

    • Yes.

  • +5

Please be aware that Australian computer traders are a bit sketchy with warranties.

I bought a refurbished surface from them and started seeing lines of bright pixels, after normal usage. They claimed that it's caused by external damage and denied warranty, even though it's a hardware fault and not caused by any external damage.

    • +1

yeah they don't have any support.
i didn't even get the specs i ordered and they don't reply.

  • +2

A bit late to the game, but I bought this last time and I've been really happy with it. I got lucky and had very few battery cycles on mine and they keyboard was in excellent condition. So far it's been flawless.

Note however that some weren't as lucky and got some pretty used ones, so your kilometers may vary.

    • +1

I got lucky and had very few battery cycles on mine and they keyboard was in excellent condition.

      same… I got the 6 though.

  • -8

Why is this dishonest and notorious seller still allowed to post ?
it deceived a lot of people and should be permanently deactivated

    • +2

      username checks out

      • +1

The seller did scam a lot of people. Look at their last deals. I actually recieved crappy units twice. Less than 60% battery and keyboard didnt even work.

        • i got good monitor from them. but yeah i suspected they went to buy xxx in bulk from some offices, then send them all to a warehouse.
from there just listing on various platforms ebay ozb catch etc, send the orders to warehouse. warehouse pack and send.
thats it. nothing about checks or quality control or cleaning. well maybe the warehouse ppl got this instruction but well they are warehouse staffs not IT lol…
easy money probably - thats why you see on ebay so many refub companies pops up

          • @CyberMurning: A pig in a poke with this seller if you want to gamble. I don't think they do any checks at all and only a Windows reset. I returned a laptop with 80%+ advertised battery but only had ~20%. After reading comments on their OzBargain deals I didn't trust them with providing an adequate replacement and just got a refund.

        • mine is still going strong, received from the prevous OZB deal $191

  • Is this a slightly more expensive option for those who missed out? https://www.catch.com.au/product/microsoft-surface-pro-5-i5-…

    • +2

Same seller. Also B Grade unit, which is cheaper from their eBay store listed at the bottom of the description (using the same coupon code).

  • +1

How is overall experience with the surface pro and this seller? I missed this deal and will purchase one if a similar deal appears again. Thanks

    • I always found the SP5s to be garbage, although it's hard to argue at that price. Physically they're nice devices but even when they were fairly current they were sluggish.

NFI but the seller, but I assume it's the standard Ozbargain situation where a few people report an issue (whether it's the sellers fault or not) and everyone tries to pile on and cancel them.

      • I agree. I feel like Pro 6 or 7 could be better. I can spend a bit of more to exchange a better machine.

        • probably due to the 8GB ram.

    • Received mine from the prev ozb post, item looks good no scratches keyboad and monitor also ok, still going strong until now.

      battery last for 1hr +

      • Good to hear. Do you mean the battery can last several hours or only over one hour?

        • -1

          over 1 hr is terrible

        • Mine lasts about 2.5-3.5h depending on what I'm using - sufficient for my needs.

    • Pretty happy with mine. The unit is in nice condition and so is the keyboard, great really considering the price.
I bought a usbc charging adapter and a pen off amazon, makes it feel more complete and mobile.

  • I got one last time, runs pretty slow (even just web browsing) compared to a 4 I had a while ago, anyone else find the same thing and tips on how to get it going a bit quicker?

    • reformat and reinstall windows. and install just basic and reputable softwares only no cracks or hacks

      • Yeah, I should've done that when I first got it but it seemed like a clean install so didnt. Stuff it, will give it a crack (haw haw) tonight.

      • to do this, would you need to create a boot USB? Would you then need a serial, or does it recognise the past installation enough to validate itself? Or is there something you can run on th edevice itself.

        • +1

It comes with preinstalled Windows and can be “repaired” meaning fresh install from itself.

  • Thanks OP

    • B Grade unit

  • Love the Surface Pro. Even the older ones are still cool, though quite heavy and thick, but I'd still buy one.

  • +4

FYI very good displays on these, very high PPI with excellent colours. Better than 90% of laptop displays at the $1K mark from today.

    • This has a higher PPI than my MBP M1 Pro 14".

  • Got one, thanks OP. Fingers crossed the unit arrives as described.

    • First thing is check that battery.

  • Hopefully i don't regret buying this for light weight watching stuff and light studying

    • It is a great media device.

      • i think the model number is surface pro 5 1796

      • How are the speakers?

        • Not too bad. Good enough for me.

  • Wondering if its better to go one level up with USB C ports , and increased RSSM, new to Surface

  • +1

Mine arrived today. The screen and back are in great condition, with no major scratches. The keyboard is a little worn but very much usable. I checked the battery capacity first thing and it came back as 93%, awaiting a few charge cycles for a more accurate reading. Managed to fresh install Windows 11 Pro and everything is working great!

    • How did you install Windows 11?

      • Google. Heaps of articles.

        https://www.howtogeek.com/759925/how-to-install-windows-11-o…

        But ask yourself why.

        • Security updates beyond Oct 2025.

          • @DigitalAnalog: Do it in October. On this surface there is very little to no advantage being on Windows 11.

      • +1

I just made a bootable USB installer. Boot from it (hold volume down + press and release power). Once there, Shift+F10 to access the command prompt to clean the disk. Installation went ahead the first time without any hiccups. I didn't even have to change any settings in the BIOS or do any registry hacks. YMMV.

        • Do you have to enter a product key with this method

          • +2

@co doonunda: Product key is built into motherboard/bios it will auto-register.

  • Damn, always one day late.
And I really wanted one of these, even the B grade would have been great.

  • Mine arrived today and everything is in perfect condition. The power adapter is brand new. How do you check the battery capacity with these things ?
I checked a couple of articles on the internet that give you a formula but my displayed full charge capacity is greater than the design capacity so the calculation comes up as 101%

  • Got mine today. The Tablet is in perfect condition. Keyboard is 4.5/5. Battery has only had 29 charging cycles since early 2023, so it’s about one year old if I read the battery report correctly. Looks like the tablet was sitting on someone’s desk plugged in a power socket for the most of its life.

    • Wow. Super lucky. Just check the battery healthy though as a laptop plugged in is not always a good thing.

    • Which one
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/203158127016 $189 or the $170 Grade B?

      • $189 one but it’s out of stock now.

        • Ahh i see i got the $170 cause $189 went oos so fast making tough decisions 😅

Got My Surface Pro 5 Grade B

    https://pastebin.com/19gEvYVD

    I think i got a pretty good battery ?

  • Received. Battery seems good as 44130/45000 MWh (98%) and 68 cycle count. Just some sticker glue left on the keyboard. For $185 I'm happy, good bargain.

    • Wow so so much better than last time.

  • Received A grade unit with 79% today and 188 cycles

    • Was told A grade should be minimu 80%. How’s the overall unit with regards to wear and tear ?

      • Unit is definitely a bit worn. If I was grading overall condition compared to other tech refurbs I have had i would grade it a b.

I still have a b grade unit on the way will be interesting to compare the two when it it arrives.

        • Thanks ! That’s bit disappointing. Let’s see how the b grade turns up. Thanks for sharing !

          • @ozshaz: Yeah normally I wouldn't really care. But my 11 year old son worked his butt off to save for a laptop and I talked him into this so given it's not 80% battery have contacted them to return it.

            • @stevednj48: The old deal they were meant to be >80% as well. Mine is random, but normally about 60-65%. Been as high as 70 and as low as 55.

              Battery lasts 2 hours tops.

              • @boxall: yeah he will be testing how long it last later wating to hear back from the seller

  • Mine arrived today, I echo some of the thoughts of others in this thread.
Battery looks good, holds 93% and looks like it has gone through 303 cycles. I have been a MacBook man for years so checking that was a goddamn nightmare, takes me back to MS-DOS 35 years ago.
Keyboard looks new, power cord IS new (but gee it's huge, will deffo get a USB-C version for traveling). Looks like it needs 45w or more.
Really good screen, rear hinge/stand looks solid.

    • +1

The Powercord, power supply or connector is huge? The default Microsoft Power supply is very small.

      • It's one of those 2-part things, with a brick in the middle. Maybe huge was the wrong word but more awkward than I am used to

    • +1

One app will do what you need for Battery Health. More like a dream than a nightmare. :-)

      https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/battery_information_view.html

      • I occasionally use that to test Laptop Batteries and works well if one already knows what to expect if the battery was new.
My Method is to fully charge and then stick a Movie onto the Desktop and play it in a loop @ 80% while recording the Battery use via the Nirsoft Battery App.
The other method (as a guide only) if you had the tools on hand is to charge from 0% to 100% while off and see how many WH it receives in total.

      • according to this im at 86 cycles and 97.9% battery health. Machine was a bit grotty and some wear on the top edges near the screen but so far looking good.

        • +1

I think they just replace a new battery but the rest is still old. My battery is 99% but hard drive has been used for 3000 hours

  • +2

Maybe got lucky this time, ordered one in last sales the machine has lot of scratches and battery 69%. This time battery health is 99% with 30 recharge cycles, condition is great, also the 65w charger seems like brand new, will give the old one to my family, will test out how long the battery last, the last one barely last 2 hours

  • Mine arrived today, unit itself presents well, keyboard has seen better days. Battery is 95%, 66 cycles.
Tried some of the online cleaning tips for the keyboard but it hasn't improved much.
Wiped a fair bit of filth of the tablet too despite it appearing pretty clean.

Can anyone recommend a third party keyboard at a reasonable price?

    • Check out marketplace. I got a brand new original keyboard and pen for $80.
