First post. Please be gentle!

It looks like the reduced price is only for the Black color. (Sold out; Charcoal 20 Long now $209.30.) Other colors are available at a higher price.

Peak Design Unisex X Backpack 20L for $209.30: https://amzn.asia/d/0iWF2uF

30L version is also down in price for $300.30: https://amzn.asia/d/7isQMy1

Camel says this is the best price for both bags.

Not sure about the name shown Peak Design Unisex X Backpack 20L. I can confirm that it is Peak Design's Everyday Backpack V2. How do I know you may ask? I ordered the 20L Black version on 18/01/2024 for $299 and received it today. I accidentally noticed the reduced price while clicking the link. Asking Amazon to refund the difference as a GC was no use. So I ordered one for the reduced price and started a return for the current one.

If you are in the market for a backpack, get this. Love Peak Design gear.

Damn those are crazy good prices for both the 20L and 30L V2.

  • +5

Seems almost… too cheap but good on ya if you got a legit one at that price

And as you pointed out, why the strange listing ?

    • +3

I have no idea about why the listing is strange. But I can confirm 100% that it is an original PD one. I registered the one I got in their website successfully for the lifetime warranty. You are correct, this price is too good to be true.

    • +2

The listing might look a bit odd but the seller is legit and after you order the 20L it appears correctly as a "Peak Design Everyday Backpack 20LV2, Black" on the order details.

Did a bit of investigation, doesn't look too promising as a business. However, given it's Amazon, there shouldn't be any issues. For legal reasons this is all speculation! Case in point:

Google review indicates that they have not been fulfilling orders to customers. See https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=600010291&sxsrf=ACQVn0…

A post from WP dating back to 2014 shows that their original domain is auscamsale dot com what a name! See https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2292404

This was then allegedly changed to acstechnology dot com. https://www.scamadviser.com/check-website/acstechnology.com.… this is their website report from scamadviser.

The defunct website now directs you to acstore dot com. https://www.scamadviser.com/check-website/acsstore.com.au this is their website report from scamadviser.

Overall, they have probably done some scummy businesses in the past, who knows? But I'll probably give this one a pass and support more legit businesses like Rushfaster or DigiDirect

      • +6

        Good detective work mate

        rushfaster

I paid a little more to get mine from Rushfaster , a bag specialist with a good return policy.

        auscamsale

Coulda called it ANYTHING they want… goes for something that can easily be misread lol

Don't have much idea on this. Got an Osprey backpack recently for $125 which is of 25L capacity and weatherproof as well. Pretty good quality.

    https://www.catch.com.au/product/osprey-unisex-adult-transpo…

    • +9

Peak Design is mainly a camera bag so the Osprey is basically incomparable to it.

      • +1

        Understand !!

    • +2

Osprey looks nice. Love the color. But I doubt whether it can be a camera bag? Pictures on the catch website does not give much info. PD on the other hand is more geared towards photography and can be customised well to use as an everyday carry.

    • +1

I love and always recommend osprey porter 30 but peak design bags are next level nice (I have and love my zip 20 v2)

      • +1

I've owned a PD 30L and initially really liked it, for carrying a DSLR + lenses, then for airline carry-on. But the shoulder straps + sternum strap have a fundamental design flaw built into them for the sake of looking sleek. I haven't used mine for years.

        • +1 for this one! The bags functionality is great but I've found the shoulder straps to be pretty uncomfortable at times whilst under load. This is with the sternum strap as well.

          • @nartan: The use of the sternum strap makes it worse than no sternum strap.

    • +3

Ospreys are great, they not always honour the lifetime warranty in Australia, so I swtiched to Deuter. But as pointed out - these are all great options for regular/hiking/walking/running/cycling packs. Not camera bags. As normal backpacks Osprey and Deuter are better though - not as sweaty.

      • Ohh. What happened with them not honouring their warranty?

        • Well I bought via Wiggle AU (cycling shop that went tits up very recently). Osprey Australia distributor (Outdoor Agencies) told me it was a grey import, thus no support in Australia, and main office in Osprey only does lifetime warranty in US/Canada. So, it appears I purchased mine from a blackhole in some parallel universe.

          • @Musiclover: I'm sure I've probably bought a backpack from Wiggle too (didn't know they went under).

Regardless, I'd be pushing Osprey harder… Their website (https://www.osprey.com/customer-support/all-mighty-guarantee) clearly says any product, and era, etc.

So regardless of where it's from, they should cover it.

We recently bought another backpack (for my wife) whilst overseas… So if there's issues with it, and the Australian warranty team won't help, that's very disappointing.

I'd try reaching out via email to the US headquarters..

            • @movieman: I tried a couple of times feels like kicking a dead horse. Maybe I will try one last time. But it is hard to continue if they say no. The only thing that can make them do it is a Civil and Administrative Tribunal, and I don't want to go there, just not worth the time.

            • @movieman: That's their US site… I could not find the same on the Australian site (didn't spend more than a minute looking though). So would certainly not expect that to apply in Australia.

              • +1

@rumblytangara: Very true. It says it varies based on each country (so much for an almighty guarantee).

Anyways, I emailed the Australian Repair centre, and this is what they've advised:

"We currently have a two-year warranty on manucturing issues for Osprey products, and this excludes accidental damage, wear and tear and airline damage - however, we will always aim to assist with a functional repair where possible.

We will also provide spare parts free-of-charge for the entire duration of the pack's lifetime."

So basically, my mom thoughts that Osprey products had a lifetime warranty are completely wrong. Will re-think what brand I buy for future backpacks!

                • +1

@movieman: I've always thought that Osprey is overmarketed anyway, especially in the Australian market where they used to be massively overpriced. They were one of the brands that mainstreamed ideas like elasticated side pockets, which on a hiking pack is just built-in obsolescence. That sort of material just isn't intended to last for decades.

Their comment about free spare parts is a bit odd- I guess that means that if you break a plastic buckle, they won't charge for the parts cost but might charge for labour. Weird.

  • Could the Peak design be used pretty efficiently as a carry on bag for say a 10 day travel to Bali?

    • +1

I have seen people do more than a week with 30L , but man that is packing light and give up a lot of luxuries.

    • +3
    • +1

      Depends. Do you wear underwear?

    • +2

30L is heaps if you are smart with your wardrobe, will do 5-7 days worth easy, just do a laundry run in between.

The concern here is the weight of the bag itself, most airlines have a 7kg carry on limit and the 30L is 1.76kg without the camera inserts. Most bags this size would come around the 1-1.3kg mark and you'd probably be pretty surprised at how many clothes that difference can make up.

    • +1

Yes, use compression packs and roll your clothes to reduce volume.

Note the PD backpack is much heavier than a normal backpack.

      The 30L is about 2kg.

      • The 30L is about 2kg.

It's actually 30kg if you are talking about water.

  • good price for the everyday backpack, it is weird they call it differently on amazon

  • I think they're on to you…price has shot up to the highest it's ever been by the looks of it.

  • anyone compare to onemo backpack by pgytech? Love that backpack but zippers are starting to fall apart

  • Seems the "20 L" is out of stock but there is still "20 Lang" and "20 Long".

I took a risk and ordered the "20 Long".

    I give this a 20% chance of coming good…

EDIT: "20 Lang" is actually $250. Glad I didnt buy that one!

    • +1

My "20 Long" just arrived and its definitely just a "20L". Weird but great deal!

  • This is only for cameras right?

    • Nope. I use my 30L for work laptop bag and also add my main travel bag whenever I go somewhere. Imo, it's the best back pack period.

      • Imo, it's the best back pack period.

It is nice but far from the best. The 30L is uncomfortable to wear for any period of time from my experience. The gura gear packs are far better if wearing full of gear for longer periods.

      • But the inside pockets are all designed for cameras/camera shaped… How does that work

        • +3

The dividers inside have velcro and are removable lol. You can either take them out completely and have an empty pack, or stick them on however you see fit.

        • +1

The inside pockets are fully removable and also adjustable. They are not pockets at all- they are simply dividers.

  • +1

I have never needed to carry that much liquid with me.

  • I've been eyeballing a 30L version of this for a long time, have to pull the trigger at this price

  • Am I too poor to understand why a backpack costing $300 is a bargain and not overpriced?

    • +6

Yes. The pack that I have been toying with replacing my PD is with is ~500. Probably won't do it though.

It's like high end anything- things get far more expensive than the run of the mill products, and diminishing returns kicks in.

    • +6

Yes. It's a specialty brand that makes camera oriented gear.

People are willing to spend a few hundred extra to protect their 7000$ camera gear and lenses.

  • What is the difference between the 20L and the 20 Long?

  • +1

Very tempted… but I have got a weak back and these don't seem to be the lightest nor have the most comfortable straps…

  • -1

I have a Manfrotto.. not sure if I should get Peak Design

    • Nice tripod. The PD bag has decently sized side pockets and straps for tripod carry.

  • As a person who has many bags, carrying camera gear/ipad/laptop and travels a whole lot, it’s probably one of the best bags as a backpack. However I’ve stopped using mine in favour of the Wandrd prvke.

  • +2

I’ve owned my 30L since they first launched them on kickstarter all those years ago. It’s my work bag, camera bag, travel bag and day-hiking bag. I can’t find many bags that tick all these boxes as a generalist do everything bag.

It’s not perfect, if I had complaints it would mostly be at the shoulder straps which could be much comfier (especially with a heavy load and doing big day trips) and I wish the bag had more ventilation on the back side.

Their lifetime warranty is great, I had a zip give on my original bag a year or so ago, and they upgraded me to the newest model (this one).

  • AER “replica” bags on AliExpress represent far better value, at least before they get taken down.

    • can you pm a link for me, thanks!

      • You must have that blocked because I can’t DM you

  • +2

Thanks OP for this great find!

I ordered the 20L yesterday and it just got delivered now. Registered warranty on PD website with its serial number without issue, the look and feel are same as the 30L l used to own. 100% legit deal.

  • +2

    Thanks!
Ordered yesterday and it has just arrived.
Registered on PD official website without any problem.
What a good deal $300 for the 30L!
Cant complain even the black is not my fav color.

    • Wow that was fast! Mine is scheduled to arrive tomorrow.

  • Just ignore the long and lang seems just some weird listing thing they just have different colours listing

Seems only black was the low price everything else was slightly more

I happily paid 40 more for ash as black was way too black

    • 20L charcoal version was the same price as the black

      • ahh was too late since all the $209 was gone when i looked

seems the ash is gone too
