[iOS] ReciMe - Free Lifetime Subscription $0 (Was AU $59.99) @ Apple App Store

2480

UPDATED FEATURE - (1) scan recipes from cookbooks and (2) shared cookbooks

I co-founded the ReciMe app and I’d love to help you organise all your recipes in one place! ReciMe is free to download from the Apple App Store.

With the lifetime subscription, you can:

  • Import unlimited recipes from online recipe blogs
  • Scan unlimited recipes from cookbooks using OCR by uploading an image / taking a photo (NEW)

To access the free lifetime subscription, follow the steps below:

  • Download ReciMe for free on the Apple app store and sign up. Note: Do not sign up to the free trial after you sign up!
  • From your profile, go to Settings by tapping on the cog wheel icon.
  • Tap ‘Upgrade to ReciMe Plus’ and ‘tap on the X’ in the top LHS corner to close the page. This will take you back to the Settings page. Repeat this process 5 times until you see ‘ReciMe Plus Activated’ pop up.

As always, I’d love your feedback so please drop any comments! The scan feature is new so we’d especially love some feedback on this. If you’re enjoying the app, it would mean so much if you could give the app a review on the app store. Happy cooking! :)

great app, got it last time around & can recommend it to OzB'ers

  • +6

hi op, when will you be getting this for android with the free lifetime sub?

      • +5

iphone user here, that wasnt cool

      • +22

We can afford to cook, with all the savings gained from not buying overpriced iphones ;)

        • +1

I think that price difference is gone nowadays, if you’re looking at flagship models from Samsung versus Apple. And the crazier designed ones are more expensive than iPhones. But of course there’s all the other models underneath the flagships, which is a market that Apple barely plays in, with really only the SE, or previous year models of iPhones available in lower price tiers. Although those are still competitive depending on what you’re after. If you were buying a cheap phone for your kids or if you just wanted to simply make calls on it and nothing else then yeah definitely there’s nothing in that price range

      • +2

Jokes on you. We cook all the time. We can't eat out like you iphoners though.

        Cause we is poor

    • +11

heya, i won't be able to give you a timeframe but will be sure to share it here to OzB'ers when it is available! :)

I jumped in the last time this app was up for free and I have loved the features of this app. I love the ability to import recipes from websites that cuts out the usual life story seen for the first 3/4 of the page on a cooking website.

I’ll have to give the recipe book import feature a try, that might help me clean up my bookshelf a little bit.

    • That's awesome that you're using the import tool. Definitely give the book scan feature a go and share your thoughts 👍

      life story

Me: looking up a recipe, clicking on first link, Please, I beg you, just tell me the ingredients and method.

      RECIPE SITE: Sure!

      ME: Thank you.

RECIPE SITE: After I explain WHY I love these ingredients-

      ME: * Whispers * No….

RECIPE SITE: -It was a crisp, fall evening, and I, a wide-eyed college student, was studying in Rome…

      • +5

That had the beginnings of a 50 shades trilogy…

        • +2

          Go on…

        • I was thinking davinci code inspired .. but I guess a 50 shades trilogy might be a better seller

        • Just as painful

      • +1

Yes! This is exactly it hahaha! ReciMe does such a good job of cutting all that out. So much quicker and easier to actually determine whether the recipe is useful to me.

        • That's awesome! If you're enjoying ReciMe, feel free to leave us a review on the app store. Thank you! :)

      • That's why i use Cookmate for Android. Copy and paste the URL and it gives you a summary, ingredients and Method tab.
        So good.

    • Recipe Filter extension in chrome is great for this.

"Recipe Filter 0.3 - Recipe Filter seeks out recipes buried in pages and shows them to you in a handy popup."

  • Thanks!

If I don't see "Upgrade to ReciMe Plus" in Settings (and I don't have an active paid or trial subscription), can I assume that I already have the life-time subscription?
I may have gotten this last time it was posted but I can't remember.

    • Yep that's right! The "Upgrade to ReciMe Plus" disappears when you've activated the life-time subscription. Hope you check it out this time round!

      • As soon as you click the x on the free trial or paid subscription it must be activating. Not sure if that’s a glitch or ? I never had to do the 5 step in and out process.

  • Thank you OP

  • Grabbed this app last time it was free. I use it weekly it runs smooth and I’ve had no issues highly recommend.

    • Woohoo happy to hear you're using it weekly! Do you use the shopping list feature?

      • +1

Yeah once or twice before but I tend to use woolworths app as it helps me with what isles stuff are in.

        • +1

We have that too! There's a little 'sort by' toggle on the top right hand side (under the list of recipes you've added to your grocery list). You can sort by 'aisle' or by 'recipe'. What else do you use the woolies app for?

  • How long is the free lifetime subscription available? I'm at work now and can't access my apple device for another 4 hours! Don't want to miss out :(

    • No stress, you got time!!!

  • That’s works thank you 🙏

    • Sweet happy cooking! 🙌

  • Haha I like the way to setup free upgrade.
    Thanks alot!

    • Haha thank you and not a problem!

  • +1

Option to change Fahrenheit in recipes to Celsius?

    • +3

Noted! Adding to feedback slack channel and backlog right now!!! Might be a little difficult to configure given most oven temperatures are written within the method steps, but we can look into it :)

  • Thanks OP

  • +2

@homecookingaddict does the lifetime sub associate to the account I've signed in with? Just wondering how it works since it's not through an in-app purchase. Great app, thanks for sharing this!

    • Yeah I’m wondering if there’s a way to keep this lifetime sub in case the app needs to be installed (phone restore/upgrade)

    • +1

Yes the lifetime sub is linked to the account you signed up with. You can use this account to sign into multiple devices (iPhone, iPad). It just won't come up as a 'subscription' in settings because you haven't purchased anything. No probs hope you enjoy it!

  • Nooo! I was an idiot and setup the 7 day trial just then and realised I’d ruined the whole thing!

Any way to fix it at all or have I lost my chance at the offer? :(

    • Not all is lost! You can create another account using another sign up method or secondary email. Then proceed to claim :)

      • Wow thanks so much!!

  • Ha! My wife and I were just having a chat about trying to find an app like this on the weekend and boom, here it is! Thank you OP, I successfully redeemed the offer!

Just out of curiosity, what do you guys (the devs) gain from giving out free lifetime subscriptions? Is it mainly to increase your user base?

    • Good timing! It's a great way to save all your fav recipes, plan your weekly recipes & create shopping lists. You can also cook step by step & adjust portions. We're hoping to get feedback on our latest feature!

  • Hey thank you. Was easy to set up, good instructions. Just wondering, I have a lot of recipes in PDF form. Seems like no way to import them?

    • Thanks for checking us out! We don't support PDF files just yet, but will definitely look into it as we've had a few people raise this. Stay tuned :)

      • To import existing pdfs would make it a game changer for me

        • Noted!! Thanks for sharing!

  • there's also an Android version. is it also free lifetime subscription

    • unfortunately not for android! sorry!

  • +2

Great app, wish you all the best, might be a new contender for joint use with my partner. I noticed my cookbooks state they are private, is it possible to perhaps share it with my partners account and then have both of us be able to add/edit recipes within the book? Otherwise I guess we could both login from the same account, which would also solve my next question about a potential joint grocery list!

    • I’d be interested in shared/linked recipes between accounts also.

      • You can do that now. It's a little bit hidden though. To add your imported/website recipes into a cookbook, on the recipe page, tap the meatball menu (3 dots) in the top right hand side and 'Add to cookbooks'. You can then share these cookbooks to another ReciMe user. Just tap the 'share' icon located in the top right hand side of your cookbook.

        • When I click the link it opens a webpage and asks me to download the app when the app is already installed. Any suggestions on how to get cookbook sharing to work for me?

    • +1

Thanks so much 🙌 Love the ideas!

You can actually share cookbooks (it's NEW! Will update the post). In your cookbook, tap the share icon on the top right hand side and select an option to share to another ReciMe user. Any party can add recipes to the cookbook.

More collaborative features like grocery lists & meal plans are coming too woohoo!

  • +2

Your "Report" feature needs a little work. We need to be able to advise you of why it's being reported. i.e. If a recipe is tagged "gluten free" or "vegan" but it isn't. Or maybe another way to provide feedback the recipe is incorrectly tagged.

    • +1

This is really helpful, thank you! We can definitely fix our report feature to gather more information. Will put this into our backlog of features to develop!

      • Awesome. Overall it looks like it has lots of potential, but I’d definitely like to see more special diet recipes in there for new ideas. Vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free, etc

  • This is best app the app store ranked number 1 if not it is preferred by millions of people, there are absolutely no flaws recommend everyone to download it and support the owner.

    • +2

Idk man there’s a flaw right above your comment

  • +1

    Thanks OP!

Shared it with my wife and MIL, both seem excited and are the target demographic ( magazines, blogs, cookbooks all over the place, there are recipes everywhere ) some first look feedback:

They often use their iPads in landscape mode, especially when cooking. Is there are landscape mode? Or support?

Can not share from Apple News app on IOS and import… can you enable that?

    • Thanks for sharing ReciMe to your family!

      1. Unfortunately landscape mode is not available for iPad. We'll add this as a feature request though and look to develop it.
      2. We don't currently support imports from Apple News app. Could you please share an example of a recipe from the app?
  • Anyone used any other recipe apps to compare? I’ve used paprika and crouton before settling on Mela as it doesn’t collect or link your data, has a simple UI and allows export of your data (which crouton did not)

  • +1

The instructions are a little unclear to me

I’ve downloaded and signed up but I get to a screen offering me both the 59.99 and the 7.99 option and I have to select one (with the free trial) - how do I not sign up to either?

    • Click the X at the top left of that screen

  • +1

    Use and love Paprika.

What does this offer pros/cons compared to that, for someone who has used both?

    • +1

Paprika is awesome! They have a couple more features like meal plans, pantry management and menus. We're releasing meal plans soon and continuously improving the accuracy of our importing tool. We have a more modern interface and have a social aspect to it like following friends and getting inspiration from community. Another popular feature is finding recipes by ingredients you have in your fridge / pantry too!

  • Was just thinking on the weekend that I needed to start a personal recipe book!

Just some feedback for you - I’ve been entering in personal recipes, and whenever I edit them, and get to the last page and click save changes, the app crashes.

When I reload the app the changes have saved, but just letting you know it’s consistently done it on the last
    four recipes, I edited.

    iPhone 11 Pro Max

    • Awesome timing!

Thanks so much for sharing this bug, I just tried to replicate it on my phone and it's not happening for me. Could I get you to email us at [email protected] to share more details? We'd love to fix this bug ASAP!

  • Thanks op, Right now I am using recipebox app (free). I will give this a try. Any major advantages of this over recipebox?

edit: Just gave it a test spin.. very nice, i like how it automatically add the pictures/icon of the ingredients, very nice. Consider me converted! Its going to take me sometime transferring all my recipes from recipebox

    • That's awesome - THANK YOU!! I've never heard of recipebox so I can't comment. Is there anything you love about recipebox that we don't have?

      • Its got a seperate “my recipes” button instead of inside profile. and it have web login so user can add recipes from web browsers. (i sent you link)

  • Although I already use Paprika recipe app, ill be giving this one a try.

If only for the scan a recipe book option

    • +1

Thanks so much, would love to hear your thoughts about the scan feature once you give it a whirl!

  • +1

I use Paprika but this looks really good.

But… I collect most of my recipes while sitting on a PC so I probably won't be switching until a browser-based or desktop app is available.

    • Good to know! Browser / desktop support is in our backlog so stay tuned! :)

  • Went to download on my iPad, I require the software update 16.0 and my iPad is version 15.8.. no updates available for my iPad…. :’( this hurts.

    • Although we'd love to cater for every iOS version, we had to make a call and it's unfortunately minimum ios 16!

      • :( very keen for it to be available on Android for free! Can't wait for when that happens

  • Need some OzBargain styled economical menus there. Thanks OP

  • great app. Just letting you know it does not work on everydaygourmet.com.au not sure if they block it, or is something you can look into. But appreciate the app so far. Cheers.

    • Thank you! Are you able to share a link to a recipe from everydaygourmet.com.au? It's sending me to a different website. I'll definitely take a look!

  • How do I activate the lifetime sub? I just registered via email and it’s prompting me to unlock ReciMe Plus, which also appears in the settings?

Edit: OK seemed to randomly activate after 15-20 mins. Nice!

    • Thanks for persisting! Hope you like it and feel free to share your thoughts :)

      • No, thank you! This app is awesome! The import from OCR and webpage functions are genius. Will get very good use out of it 🙂

        • Great to hear! Let us know if you have any feedback or ideas as you use it more 😊

  • Wow I just started using this app and honestly I am blown away, this is really amazingly good! Great work on the app OP!

    Some feedback:

    • I tried to add a recipe from SBS Food and seems like it didn’t parse correctly. I understand that not all websites would be fully supported, so please put this in your backlog for whenever you have time!
    • Can I have a way to make my posts private by default rather than public?

    Keep up the great work!

    • Thank you so much!

SBS has some awesome recipes. We'll add their website to the list.

As for posts to be private, there is no way to apply this to all of your posts. All 'imported' recipes are private by default, but for recipes you upload from scratch, there is an option to make the post 'private' in the recipe editor. Will add this as a feedback suggestion though, thanks!

  • Thanks OP! Great app

  • +1

Tried to download it on the iPad air 2 but the app requires iOS 16.

Missed out on that by .2
