      • +1

it does the chip is on the battery cover - great phone!

  • +1

Yea I just saw that as well - updating now.

  • +9

<gag>I refuse to buy this phone until it's sub $400!!</gag>

    edit: gag tags

    • +22

What are you gagging on? Wait.. Forget I asked.

  • +1

    4G network for Note 2 ?

    • +1

Nope, the model number for the SGN2 4G is N7105, and is a fair bit more expensive.

  • +2

so buying from kogan, there is no australia warranty is it?

    • +4

There's 12 month Kogan warranty though.

      • +1

so how do you go about this? so no manufacture warranty in australia. how does kogan warranty work? do you send it back to them and they fit it or something? so both way shipping fee would be on you?

    • +2

      Does Kogan charge GST ?

      • -4

        Yes.

        • -1

are you sure o-o how much is GST?

        • +1

Do they give an australian tax invoice and can we claim tax refund ? Going out of the country in a few weeks

        • -1

"All prices include GST where applicable"

        • +7

          (not applicable for Direct Import)

      • +2

        They didn't for my S3

        • -4

GST is already included in the price

      • +1

From what I know, Kogan has to issue Australian tax invoice (ABN, etc…) with stated GST amount before we can claim the tax refund within 30days of purchase.

It would be nice if someone can confirm that.

        • +8

It comes from Kogan HK, not Kogan AU, so there is no GST on the invoice. And I even got Australian stock, but since its direct from HK I don't get samsung warranty. Kogan warranty is pretty good though.

        • +2

          Thanks, that clear things out.

I was thinking of claiming the GST back on my way out. With this, it is out of the question then.

        • +3

@fatice: Unless you can find a local retailer selling for less than $679.80 (including shipping and GST), it still works out cheaper to get it from Kogan.

        • +2

@fatice: Unless you can find a local retailer selling for less than $679.80 (including shipping and GST), it still works out cheaper to get it from Kogan.

He actually has to find a local seller cheaper than $525 delivered for it to be cheaper than buying from Kogan HK after claiming TRS.

I love it when people don't consider that. What he wants is to buy it locally and pay only $434 for it. Let us know if you find such a deal fatice. You'll be the first to post that deal here on OzBargain won't you?

What people claiming TRS are doing is getting a refund on GST. But when you buy a grey import you're not paying GST anyway, so it's like you already got the refund. What these people really want isn't a refund, but an even cheaper price. Kogan could sell it for as low as $300 and people would still want that price to include GST so they can claim 10% back.

Good luck finding this phone for cheaper than $525 delivered so you can 'save' 10%.

        • +1

@lostn: Sorry, I calculated the price based on the Note 2, but you get the idea :)

        • +1

Yes, we all want cheaper price for the same product as they all burn a hole in our wallet. Getting TRS = saving of 10%.

Here is an explaination on the numbers:
Kogan price: $599+$19=$618 (It is examed from GST due to grey import)
For the same product that is eligible for TRS (GST inclusive), and get the same as Kogan after claiming TRS, it woule have to be $599 / 90% = $666

I am not sure how was the number $679.8, $525 and $434 are calculated.

        • +2

Yes, we all want cheaper price for the same product as they all burn a hole in our wallet. Getting TRS = saving of 10%.

What you want is the further saving, not the TRS itself, which in the end is a further saving.

My point is, if Kogan sold the phone for $200, you'd still be disappointed there's no GST included.

For the same product that is eligible for TRS (GST inclusive), and get the same as Kogan after claiming TRS, it woule have to be $599 / 90% = $666

Incorrect. It would be $599 * 1.1 = $659 to get the after GST price. But that ignores shipping charges.

I'd like to see you find a GST inclusive price cheaper than this.

        • +1

I totally agree with you, we all want to squeeze a bit more. Just like engineering, minimise cost, maximise benefit.

good luck claiming the gay if you are flying on a full flight to China…….i'm speaking from experience. lost 100 as took too long to get to trs as the check in process was so slow!

        • +1

As stated above, it is grey import, which it cannot claim TRS.

      • +1

No. (On anything under $1000 at least). So no in this case.

  • +4

Great! The Note II's price from Kogan is defnitely what many of us (myself included) were holding out for.

Just an FYI to bear in mind, there'll be some official press conference on the American version in less than 48 hours. http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/10/samsung-confirms-october-… Slim, slim chance there'll be an LTE version announcement. Even so, am going to wait until that's over before I bite.

    • +1

The US release is simply what the rest of the world already has AFAIK.

    • +1

You can already get the LTE telstra compatible version for $820 from mobicity

  • +1

So is this a grey import or Aussie stock?

    • +4

      grey import

  • +3

    import

  • +3

thanks got note 2 so happy

  • +7

Awesome price on the Note 2. My spleen aches with each moment I hold back.

  • +1

Any idea how long this price would last?
Was planning to buy on Friday when I get paid.

    • +1

Website suggest the S3 is on Sale, but the Note 2 is not. $599 may be the normal selling price, for a while at least, until it drops again and/or has FREE Shipping.

  • +3

"This Product is a brand new international model. This Product may differ in some respects from other similar products available from local retailers in various countries around the World (including Australia)."

Anyone care to enlighten me on what exactly the difference is?

    • +11

One guess is no branding/bloatware from Telstra or Optus.

      • +1

Wasn't there something about internal memory space or something?

      • +1

Well that's a good thing. But isn't this also the case for any phone purchased outright?

        • +1

Depends where you buy it from.

  • +11

Got the note 2. Thanks! Can retire my iphone 4 :)

    • +12

Enjoy your step up, or should I say upsize.

      • +2

  • +1

can anyone tell me how long does it take for shipping?
i will leave Melbourne on 15th November so not sure if i bought this would it come in time..
    Thanks

    • +6

you'll definitely get it before the 15th unless something goes seriously wrong Eg. Kogan shuts down :)

    • +1

It says it should be dispatched within 5 days. Delivery time after dispatch is within 2-5 business days.

So yep you should get it before Nov 15.

      • +2

        10 days to deliver a phone…

        • +1

Delivery took only 3 days for me after they dispatched it. How soon they dispatch it would depend on stock levels. If they have enough they might dispatch it 1 or 2 days after you place your order. It shouldn't take 10 days. That would be the worst case scenario.

  • +2

Thanks OP for the update, stuff the 4G, at this price 3g Note2 is good enough, bit the white!
Knew if I waited a bit more, Kogan would come to the party after the recent SS deal that I ignored.
Like their free return shipping if there is a problem, given all of these are imported stocks.

Torn between this and holding out for the Lumia 920..

    • +13

SAME! Lumia 920 or Note 2? Lets have a vote
+ me to get the note or Neg me to hold for a nexus/lumia

I do not care for 4g as i am using liveconnected and spend half my life in the cbd where i get awesome 3g already

      • +1

I was so excited when 920 was announce. I lost patient and got Note 2 on monday..

        • +7

you lost a patient? which hospital do you work at so i can avoid it?

        • +2

Ha ha. I meant “patience” and “announced”. Sorry for these mistakes. I typed above sentence on my phone…

      • +1

4vs2 already! will buy the note when i get 10+ votes. my wallet lies in the hands of ozbargain…not that it isnt already lol

        • +3

Windows Phone 7 handsets (recent Lumias) were not upgradable to WP8, which left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths. There's a chance WP8 phones won't be upgradeable either.

That alone is a turn off for me. And the app store is not as good. Nice screen though.

Get the Lumia if a 5.5" phone is too big for your pockets. Otherwise I think the Note 2 is the better phone.

        • +1

but it has such nicer colours!!!
i need to hold a note 2 in my hand to confirm, im playing with the GS3 and cant stop playing with it

  • +2

    • +2

      Yes, note 2 uses microsim.

  • +1

Cheers, OP, patience paid off and now have a new toy on the way. Dispatch for my Samsung Galaxy S3 is 30th October if anyone else was wondering about delivery times.

  • +1

    Just bought Note2 for missus.

Good price. I think it will still stay over $500 after 6month later..

  • +3

    Come on Unmobile…..beat Kogan "Please"

  • +1

im going Hong Kong next week, wonder if it will be cheaper there? Or should I get Kogan send to my hotel?

    • +1

Wait.. why did people neg this?

  • How quickly can i get this item delivered to melbourne. I just can't resists this deal. If bought today can i get it by friday or monday the 29th?

    • +3

Wouldn't count on it. My confirmation email said to expect dispatch by the 30th.

      • +1

        Thanks..

      • +1

That's usually a conservative estimate. I always get my stuff before the "expect by XXth" date. It's to keep you from pestering them asking, where's my item one day after you were expecting it to be at your door.

If it's in stock, you should get it by Monday I would say.

  • +1

I'd loved the S3 until recently when my gf's S3 has dead sound and mic. Basically the phone became completely mute, no sound playing music, no sound on call, no sound at all. Also the mic just stops working. The phone was only 1 week old and she had to send it to Samsung for a repair. Still waiting for it to come back though.

Googled the issue, turned out many S3 users had the same problem. Anyone has any ideas about this issue?

I'd been always wanted an S3, but became hesitant since then.

    • +2

I'm sure Samsung will replace the device for you. I love their service.

    • +2

      dead sound? o.O

    • +1

Did you try turning the volume up?

      • +1

Good suggestion. Also, did they try turning the phone on?

        • +2

Good suggestion. Also, did they try turning the phone on?

Check if the battery's been inserted while you're at it.

        • +1

are you sure it wasnt a demo phone?

        • +1

are you sure it was an S3 and not a watermelon?

  • +1

is it worth upgrading the warranty to 3 years $89 or 5 years $120

    • +1

tat depends on if you are gonna upgrade ur phone every couple of years… I know I'm guilty of that :)
ie. if you're - than I wouldnt considering how cheap new phones are nowadays

    • +4

3 years if you want the peace of mind. 5 years is a bit redundant. I can guarantee you won't still be using this phone in 5 years time with the rate everyone changes phones these days.

      • +2

Doubt you'll be using the phone in 3 years, but then again there are still lots of people/sheep using iPhone 3's and 3GS'.
