Was looking to see it - but the reviews really put me off.

    • -4

Honestly, this is a movie that you should avoid checking reviews for first.

If you are up to date with several of the Marvel shows from Phase 4/5 then it's worth the watch. It's pretty short at 1hr 30 mins compared to most other Marvels movies. It's more dumb fun than serious movie, I think that put a lot of people off. The all woman protagonists in a comic book movie also puts a lot of (unsavoury) people off

      • Bootlegged it without seeing any reviews (I already know it's gonna bomb from the trailers).

Even as a switch your brain off movie it's pretty stupid. Like the premise is that they switch places when they use their powers (not a spoiler it's in trailers), but the movie doesn't even stick to this mechanic. Plenty of times they use their powers with no consequences.

Villain is so bland and useless, I can't help its just nepotism that she's in there. Can't get over her grills - like what is this early 2000's?

        • Technically the premise is that they switch places when two of them use powers at the same time not just any single person using powers. But yeah villain was shit, Rambo character was shit other two had some personality at least. Singing planet was an absolutely garbage idea and the strength levels of the different characters was super inconsistent. Also captain marvel is apparently a moron for attempting the same energy attacks over and over that were directly countered by the villain instead of just straight up throwing big shit at them.

I'm personally pretty burnt out on the MCU. Watch this anyway and I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would.

      • +1

Your comment history says woke way too much.
Maybe you just have a problem with the world becoming more progressive.

        • -1

It’s not progressive, it’s Disney trying to make a very small insignificant percentage of society happy, it will soon fade into a bad memory as Disney and companies like Bud Light get backlash from share holders.

  • +44

The movie that put the final nail in the coffin for Marvel

    • +19

Hope so. So sick of 99% of movies the last decade being super hero movies.

      • +10

and having to watch several other movies to understand who people are in the current movie is annoying. "oh this character is a special character that showed up in a 1minute cameo in the 3rd post credits of another movie 4 years ago!"

      • +26

Fun fact: you can choose to not watch them. I don’t enjoy True Crime documentaries, so instead of posting comments about how sick I am of them existing I just don’t watch them.

          • +3

@PainToad: To be fair Demand dictates Supply

            capitalism

            • +2

@bemybubble: And demand has thankfully gone down. Lets hope that actually does stop/reduce the supply.

          • @PainToad: Everything you said here is all mostly true, but you're definitely being hammered with down votes for talking smack about the talking tree

          • +2

@PainToad: Or maybe the studios make their profits with these tent pole movies and use some of it to subsidize their Oscar bait that nobody pays to see.

        • Comic book movies suck up all the talent and artists. There's only so many big budget films that can be made in a year.True Crime docos don't really affect anyone else.

        • -2

Wow communist much? Not allowed free speech anymore I see.

          • @Mozzmanau: @Mozzmanau looking at your average downvote count over the last few deals you’ve commented on, we all might be better off if you’re free speech card was revoked 😂

          • +1

@Mozzmanau: Free speech comes with the right to be told you are wrong from others with free speech 😂

      • +6

There are hundreds of excellent movies out there. Superhero movies are maybe 4-6 per year, so i think the issue is you.

      • +4

For me, the best Marvel movie has to be the first Guardians of the Galaxy. I highly recommend it. You don't need any prior knowledge or anything.

I wouldn't call it a superhero movie. It's more like a sci-fi space adventure. If you like Star Wars and Firefly, you might like this.

        • +1

That’s the one wit the talking tree trunk right? 🤣

          • +8

@PainToad: The politically correct term is Flora Colossus. His name is Groot. He mentions it once or twice.

      • Could be worse, could be 99% of movies being woke Star Wars movies

    • …and Disney.

  • +61

They went woke, and they are going broke.

    • +5

don't know why you're getting downvoted, you made a good point

      • +20

There are lots of extreme lefties on ozbargain who get offended.

        • +11

          the ozfended crowd

        • +3

          Yeap, Id noticed this too

        • +1

Yes there definitely is these days sadly.

        • -3

That's because most are on here because they don't work and they're broke lol. Typically woke lefties waiting for communism to kick in 😅

    • +3

Do you mean the movie is woke or Disney is woke?

      • +44

Like it matters, woke is getting used for anything people don't like anymore. Lazy and dumb argument making.

        • +16

Yeh my landlord just increased my rent. Such a woke piece of s***.

          • +2

@illusion99: Can’t believe Pink Floyd got woke and started flying that rainbow flag.

          • +1

@illusion99: My boss said I wasn't being "productive". Such a woke piece of s***.

      • +5

Both is the case, but they got rid of the previous CEO and Bob Iger is back and said Disney needs to start making good movies again and not make movies to make statements.

      • -2

Disney and everything they do lol

    • +23

It was just a bad movie.
Blaming any 'woke' whatevers on it being bad is doing an injustice to how bad the movie was :)

    • +8

They went woke, and they are going broke.

Yet fans yearn for tales that provoke, hoping for stories that resonate and evoke

      • +3

As long as it stars a bloke.

        • Sorry Disney I will disyoke

    • Lucky they don't have to pay because this movie and Disney live rent-free in your head.

      • -3

Seems that I live rent-free in yours.

    • +6

Man you comic book nerds really eat up the culture war stuff like it's a new arc, hey?

      • +1

I’ve read an argument online that gamergate was a coordinated starting point to get young men (in particular) involved in the culture wars, which does make some sense.

    • +8

Woke or not doesn't matter either way. They just started churning out too much sh*t is the problem. Could have and should have just wrapped it up with EndGame. Would have been perfect end to a great franchise. But they couldn't help themselves, just had to keep milking that cash cow until it's dry, and now it's dry.

Also not helped by the disastrous decision to start their own streaming service. Which is not only losing money hand over fist, but has forced them to just make too much stuff in order to feed Disney+ with a stream of new content. Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar… Disney have flogged them all into the ground trying to create enough content for Disney+. Stuff that 10 years ago ever would have got past an initial pitch meeting is now getting pushed into production in a desperate attempt to keep those subscribers on board.

    • +2

Ironically with great power came great responsibility.

    • +5

Having 3 women in a movie = woke

    • +3

They went woke, and they are going broke.

Yeah poor Disney, broke as hell 😂

(On a serious note: I wonder if there really is an example out there of "go woke go broke" in real life. Can anyone think of a genuine one? Like, a show or film or marketing campaign that lost a lot of money purely for trying to be more inclusive, without also having a drop in quality?)

      • -1

        Lightyear. 100m Loss
        The Little Mermaid

        • +4

You're really going to claim THOSE failed because of inclusivity and not bad writing?

Man I love the internet, you really can't make this stuff up.

          • @GandalfTheCheap: Those two didnt even make a loss.
Little Mermaid: Budget $297 million, Box office $569.6 million
Lightyear: Budget $200 million, Box office $226.4 million

            • @Gehirn: Normally 2.5x budget is what movies need. You can ready up in it.

        • +1

Homie really just gave a literal disney live action remake as an example of something that lost money because it was inclusive, not because it was poor quality

          • -1

@ItsMeAgro: They replaced a white redhead with a person of colour. They tried to be inclusive, but it didn't work.

        • +3

What's your argument for Lightyear being 'woke'?
          One same-sex couple kiss?

If I find some rando hot mess sausage-fest action movie which did poorly, is that an argument that non-woke movies are sending studios broke?

Also, just for the record - any idea what the highest grossing movie last year was?

      • +2

        "go woke go broke"

        Sleeping pills containing caffeine

  • +7

TV Movie back on TV where it belongs.

  • +7

My Disney plus sub ends soon. Not worth buying it to watch this lol

    • Not worth buying for anything lol

    • Yes I ended mine a couple of months ago to save some dosh. Haven’t missed it tbh.

  • +4

Hard pass for me. Only time I watch Disney + is when my kids have subscribed and I watch family guy

  • +3

I wanted to see the movie, it was truly truly shocking!

  • +10

Do not listen to the reviews on this one - this was quite a fun movie to watch. I had much lower expectations and it surpassed them. Is it a great movie? No. But it's entertaining and that's something the last few Marvel movies have been missing.

Just look at audience scores vs critic scores on Rotten tomatoes, big difference.

    • +5

Yeah. I went in knowing that no-one liked it. I'm a sucker for Marvel crap. But it wasn't bad. The only Marvel movie that was truly unwatchable was The Eternals. Everything else has been alright, some being great even.

    • -1

Do your work for Disney? 😂

  • +14

Marvel sucks ever since end game. Disney would have to pay me to use their app.

      • +6

        paintoad:

Marvel sucks ever since after the 2008 Iron Man.

        Also paintoad:

Fun fact: I’ve only watched the first Iron Man and I think the first Captain America.

  • -1

    Its actually a good movie!!!

    • +3

8 people so far bothered to downvote someone for their opinion on a movie?

      Thats pretty lame.

      • Yep - Keyboard warriors. Cant please everyone — They can go jump

    • That's hilarious 😂

  • +7

I tried watching it at a friend's place, through VPN and some random streaming site. We literally dozed off after 20 mins in and went to YouTube.

They're trying too hard to be funny. The villains felt boring and it was a convulted mess of a story. Maybe the later scenes will get better. I doubt it though. Cheesy movie 1.5/10

    • +4

      Cheesy movie 1.5/10

Explains why the Hamburglar above liked it. He loves Cheeseburgers.

  • +10

Put a chick in it and make her geh!

  • +4

Nowhere near as bad as this thread wants to make it to be.

  • Do people still watch Marvel movies…?

    • +2

Only brain dead people with no taste

  • +5

I would have to be compensated to sit through this again.

  • +1

I'm gonna enjoy not paying to watch this at the cinema

  • +1

Not worth the bandwidth. (Yes, it really is that bad)

  • +1

Even the top psycho misandrist feminist can’t watch this!

  • +1

I saw it in cinema using the free Snackback ticket.. Iman Vellani (and actors portraying her family) couldn't carry the movie themselves. Needed better writing and potentially better actors too.

  • +1

If you're into that sort of thing, this is already available on certain seas.

  • +3

Marvel has turned to shit after Endgame. Everything they make now sucks so bad. Their content is an insult to average intelligence.

    • the writing now feels really lazy and uninteresting. When the MCU started everything linked so well together and everything flowed well

    • +1

Loki S2 was pretty good, despite it being a stepping stone for kang.

      • The best thing Marvel has made since End Game.

  • +1

Worst mcu movie, fell asleep after 30 minutes…

    • +3

The Eternals is the worst mcu movie, this is the second worst.

      • Better than Quantumania?

        • +1

Quantumania wasn't as bad as people made it out to be imo. Kang was a good villain it was the way they defeated him was bad and left a bad taste in people's mouths. I'd say Love and Thunder (another bad movie with a good villain) was worse than Quanumania because of the screaming goats and the Asgardian kids ftw deus ex machina. The Marvels was worse than both of those movies. MCU went from good movies with bad villains to a few good movies with good villains (thanos) to bad movies with good villains and now The Marvels which is a bad movie with a bad villain. That said GOTG3 was an exception to the trend by being a great movie with a great villain.
