    I love lambp

    • -1

This cut of lamb looks really unappealing.

      • -5

        dog meat

        • -4

Yep. We used to feed this cut to the dogs before price went mad.

        • lol, tell me you can't cook without telling me you can't cook.

      • Used to be great for slowcooking because they were so cheap, these days not so much. Make a great ragu from it and just discard the bones.

Dunno why people use these as standard chops on the bbq these days, I guess they cook quickly.

        • What's a good cut for bbq?

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: You can bbq any of it really, tenderloin/fillet is usually what I grab for my parents as they really enjoy tender meat (and it's as tender as it gets, just need to marinate it and I'll usually do it as kebabs) and it's cheap compared to a lot of cuts.

Loin chops are worth the extra cost over forequarter and getting a rack of lamb is usually better than buying cutlets (but need to be careful on the timings of cooking it).

Chump chops and forequarter chops are just a boney mess though, best left for the slowcooker.

        • Why? because cutlets cost an arm and a leg.

          • @entropysbane: This cut is only good for stews, braises, and curries.

    • -1

      I know how you feel.

  • +1

    You know it makes sense.

  • +15

Just in time to celebrate Australia Day ;)

  • +2

12.50/kg has been the regular price for lamb forequarter chops for quite some time now.

    • +1

Not at Woolworths. They are still have the inflated prices from the Rona times.

      • Maybe it depends on the region? Coles & Woolies in my area have had this as regular pricing. Though Woolies labels it as a "special".

    • +2

better get the leg for $8/kg, or shanks $9.50/kg

      • It depends on what you want to cook.

        • +1

And need to factor in the whole leg bone in those other two. $10/kg for forequarter chops at Coles is pretty great value.

  • +19

Forequarter chops are $10/kg from Coles

      • +5

        $12.5 for me

      • $12.50 for 5+ postcodes around Victoria, and/or currently unavailable.
Small packs show as $10/kg for Sydney postcodes.

    • +2

Not from what I saw today. The website, app and the price on the shelf were all $12.50, is it state specific?

      • That's… strange. I definitely bought some chops last week at $10/kg. The specials should update on Wednesdays, and on the website it's still showing as $10/kg for me.

Is the pricing location dependent? I"m in Sydney.

        • +1

          Today's Wednesday my dude…

          • -1

@richadam: Yes mate, that means last week's special is still active for this week.

            • +7

@horseshoe: My understanding is weekly specials run from Wednesday to Tuesday. That is the catalogue dates.

              • +1

@try2bhelpful: Some run for 2 weeks (or more). Looks like this $10 special has been extended in some Coles stores but not others.

At the moment I'm only seeing Vic stores at $12.50.

        • I just checked Griffith (NSW) and it’s $10/kg

      • $13 for me in metro Sydney.

        • Metro stores have their own prices and specials. In the fine print they're excluded from the Woolworths catalogue specials.

    • It's 12.5 for me, but this roast is 8kg though https://www.coles.com.au/product/coles-lamb-leg-roast-half-a…

  • -1

I thought that Woolies cancelled the long weekend?

And all of their management will work hard on Friday, like it is any other working day.

    • +16

Murdoch propaganda. The twats got people so upset they were attacking Woollies staff. FFS I thought Australians were better than that.

    • +5

No, they took Chinese made landfill that no one buys off the shelf.

Australia day for me has never been about buying cheap, chinese shit with "the flag" stamped on it.

    • Agree.

  • +2

It's been 11 bux in aldi since months

  • +2

$12.50 still more expensive than $10 Coles and $11 Aldi………..

    • -7

So cheaper at Coles and they didn't try to ban on Australia Day.

      • +7

Neither did Woolworths. Stop being a sheep to the rightwing media.

        • -6

Looking at your recent comments it's pretty clear who the left wing nut job is.

          • +9

@Budju: Honestly? Is Australia Day still going ahead. Yes. So how did they ban it? Woolworths is even advertising that people buy produce for Australia Day so they haven’t even “banned” it for themselves. They stopped selling overseas made tat and the rightwing media exploded. You think I’m a left wing nut for pointing this out?

            • -3

@try2bhelpful: Why are you so triggered that the free market doesn't like serve of woke politics on aisle 3

              • +6

@Budju: The rightwing trope of “triggered”. Which is interesting because you are the guys who have been triggered into this response. If the media hadn’t told you Woollies was ceasing to sell this tat would you even have known? When was the last time you bought this stuff from Woolworths?

What Woollies did was free market. They stopped selling tat that was hitting their profitability. It is the rightwing media that was trying to force them to sell it, it was a politician that called fur a boycott. How is that free market?

Actually if you go into Coles they don’t say this is Australia Day merch. They advertise it as “Summer” and emphasise it for sporting events. Are you going to boycott them as well? How about Anaconda advertising it as a long weekend rather than the Australia day long weekend. Do they get banned as well. Aldi and Kmart aren’t selling Australia Day merch. Costco isn’t. All going yo be boycotted by you?

Step back and see how absurd this is.

BTW if you look at the share price for Cole’s and Woollies the patterns are tracking pretty similarly. So much for the boycott.

                • -6

@try2bhelpful: You're projecting a whole load of nonsense on the free market. We vote with our feet. You can't stop us gravitating away from the woke snowflakes.

                  • +6

@Budju: So you are going to boycott all the companies or just the ones the rightwing media has triggered you into boycotting. Honestly mate when you use rightwing tropes instead of a valid argument it shows just how “triggered” you’ve become. Step away from the nonsense terms and try to put your ideas into English.

“In economics, a free market is an economic system in which the prices of goods and services are determined by supply and demand expressed by sellers and buyers. Such markets, as modeled, operate without the intervention of government or any other external authority.”

                    I am projecting nothing.

                    • -3

@try2bhelpful: You seem pretty angry that the free market doesn't want a sprinkle of woke politics on their lamb chop this Friday. Some would say, you've been triggered.

                      • +8

@Budju: Did you read the definition. Dutton, as part of the Government, tried to interfere; so that isn’t free market. The free market is determined by the supply and demand expressed by buyers and sellers. A boycott on the basis of a confected outrage by a rightwing media group isn’t part of that concept either.

You aren’t boycotting all the other companies that are not selling the tat or calling it Australia Day so why just Woollies? You didn’t answer my question on the last time you bought the Australua Day tat from Woollies. The question is why do you care if they don’t sell this tat if you aren’t buying it? That is the free market. Supply and demand by the consumer. If you don’t want to consume it why do you care if it isn’t sold?

As I said you wouldn’t know or care if the rightwing hadn’t triggered you. Stop using the tropes and put it in plain English.

Why would you want to commemorate a Pommy guy, with a bunch of Pommy convicts, raising a Pommy flag in NSW anyway?

  • +5

    Too little, too late Woolies.

    • -4

      Good, (profanity) off

  • +2

It’s their shop, they can sell or not sell what they want. That’s free speech baby.

    • +2

You would think so wouldn’t you?

    • -1

      Is it?

      • Why isn’t it? As long as it is legal to do it either way it is up to the company.

      • +1

        Yes, it literally is.

        • 'Literally' NPC corporate nonsense.
They just "Support the current thing" like robots.

          • +1

@Forth: No, it literally is free speech for a company or person to take whatever position they like without government intervention.

            I’m explaining it to you.

Whether you like the position or not - that’s up to you and good luck to you.

            • @Jigram: "No, it literally is free speech"

Yet you live in your mums house, this isn't reddit kid.

              • +2

@Forth: I don’t, I live in a penthouse apartment in an inner city suburb with my wife.

I’m not sure what your problem is with what I’m saying. You’re welcome to agree with Woolworths or not, but they’re allowed to sel what they want.

                PS I support Australia Day.

Quality wise, I find Coles lambchops heaps better.
    Cleaner consistent cuts and satisfying.

  • +2

Generally my favourite lamb chop. Not sure why people think they are tough - guessing how you cook them.

For those saying Coles have them at $10/kg - where is this? I'm looking online and it's saying $12.50/kg at Coles???

    • Everywhere except Vic.

    • In Sydney

  • I dont shop at woolies anymore.

    • +1

No one cares where you shop

      • Thats not what your mum said when she dropped off my shopping.:)

  • +3

I find it hilarious people are falling for the CEO of woolies changing the narrative to how his staff are being attacked to be the victim and to divert all the anger and disappointment at what they chose to do.

Do people still enjoy meat purchases from these kinds of stores. I stopped buying meat from them a long time ago due to always finding them lacking in flavour and texture. A friend of mine who works in the industry told me its because a lot of times the way their business model works on that large scale is they need to freeze and store meat for months before it ever gets sold to us, the colour of the meat is also a lot of times artificial apparently.

These days i generally just buy direct from Farms but i do hear there are also good butchers you can find for good tasting meats.

    • -4

If the issue is the quality of meat then just say so.

However, you had to get your little rightwing triggered comment at the start. The CEO didn’t lie; selling this tat was affecting company profitability. When was the last time you bought this tat from Woollies? The issue should be about his staff being harassed and attacked by triggered rightwingers. We are Australia not America, we should be better than this. You don’t allow the bullies to be the only people with an opinion.

      • -3

Apparently some of the rightwingers here reserve the right to attack innocent staff. Got to admit I'm a tad surprised.

        • -1

try2bhelpful Stop with childish political grandstanding.
          Leave that for X

          • @Forth: Why is this grandstanding? It is a genuine question. How can anyone blame attacks and harassment on workers as being due to the comment a CEO has made? Especially one that was, actually, factual and pretty mild.

I assume, by X, you mean exTwitter? Under Musk it is likely to be somewhere the attackers are incited to “go for it” then boast about it afterwards.

In all honesty I, refraining from buying Tesla products with Musks involvement but I’m not urging others to not buy nor am I inciting people to attack or harass their sales people.

      • -1

Mate, first of all I am a dark skinned migrant who has lived in quite a few countries before settling in Australia. I generally vote left but i am a swing vote as i agree with some things on the right and some on the left. Maybe you should stop categorising everyone into groups to fit your narrative.

        • -1

I’m happy to discuss the quality of the meat. That should be all that is relevant to this post.

In a truly equal world your skin colour, and migrant background, doesn’t define your political leanings. Why did you even feel the need to add in the first bit of your post? How can you say that the CEO stating a position is a justifiable reason to harass and attack his staff? He is entitled to state the position of his company. Nobody here has admitted to buying this tat from Woollies so I really don’t see why they are so upset by this all. The date is controversial and the merchandise doesn’t make money. All of this should’ve gone to the keeper without causing this mental reaction. Why is this causing anger and disappointment? What did they choose to do that justifies the reaction?
