    Once you fly business….

    • +6

Except for Virgin business. The current Virgin business is crapola.

      • Jeststar "Business Class" is worse than Virgin Business, and so much worse than Singapore Airlines Economy Class.

        • What's your experience? I flew Jetstar Business from SYD-ICN recently and it was actually pretty good. I agree it's not real business class, but seats were comparable to premium economy on a full-service and somewhat better than Virgin 737 business seats. Food was decent, served alcohol, and crew were friendly + attentive. Surprisingly included fast track security screening. Also you can earn business-tier status credits and get lounge access if you buy the max package for a couple hundred more.

The sale price wasn't much more than full-service economy for my flight. Typical price seems comparable to full-service premium economy, which seems fair

@ninjalot: I flew Jeststar "Business Class" Sydney to Bangkok a few years ago. The leather upholstery on the seats was cracked and stained, the food was similar to what you find at a 7-Eleven service station, and the flight crew were often busy chatting among themselves rather than attending to the passengers.

What's wrong with Virgin business? I flew business once on Virgin America and was happy with it. Seats weren't lie flat but it was a domestic 4 hr flight so not a big deal.

        • +2

Virgin America is not Virgin Australia.

          • @Ma77mc: Actually I just remembered, the flight over to the US was on Virgin Australia. This was in 2013.

            • @Mondorock: Virgin Australia 777 was excellent service.
unfortunately, today they are a 737 airline, they use essentially the domestic 737 (737 Max8) on the Tokyo route, so, 2-2 config, no lay flat.

I'm probably a minority, but I'm still happy to fly short haul economy after having enjoyed many business and first class flights. No matter what class you're in, air travel still sux beyond 4 hours

      • recent 10 hour flights we flew business - food was not better, but the lay flat seats were nice so we looking for that next time

        • +1

As nice as it is to enjoy the experience and it is still something I very much look forward to, the OzBargainer in me really doesn't see the value in short haul business and first class since I generally sleep through most of the flight regardless of which class I'm travelling in.. I guess having lounge access and bottomless booze prior to each flight even in economy helps, so once onboard I just fall asleep 😆

    • Which my bank account won't allow it for even once.

Very nice, mid of the year though would be tough, its very hot n humid

    • And typhoon season.

      • Right after sakura season.

    • But lots of amazing summer festivals around, highly recommend the Yosakoi in Kochi especially.

  • +1

Amazing price. Weather is still decent in early to mid May. Any later and it's gonna get hotter and more humid

    • +1

Also monsoon season with lots of rain

  • +7

Would be good if you could list the price with the airline direct and not just the dodgy re-sellers

    • +6

Because op himself is the reseller lol

    • Don't think it is dodgy just a real pain when you need to change stuff/cancel or amend the booking… Especially when you're overseas

  • Great price. ANA business is good but so-so. If you havent done, it does nowhere near compare to JAL (but neither does price)

    • +2

Really depends on the leg and service.
I flew ANAs The Room (J) and The Suite (F) back in November from HND-JFK and from LHR-HND respectively.
ANA really hits JL hard when it came to both the hard product and the soft product.

The difference, especially in F is huge from the "older" JL B77W F product and the Suite on ANA.
In Business they trade blows - JLs Apex Suites on B77W/B788/B789 aircraft is solid when it comes to sleeping as theres no foot cubby as opposed to ANA and in J, I believed the food was better with ANA than opposed to JAL but it depends on the port you leave as the caterer will have a difference in terms of quality.

      • You're right. Legs and aircraft type play a big role, my comment is a bit misguided.

    • I've done JAL from tokyo to mel, honestly found the old style of business pretty poor compared to qantas even!

      • Just to note that Melb to Tokyo route (788-8) has been upgraded recently: https://www.jal.co.jp/jp/en/aircraft/conf/787.html (used to be E03, now it's E12).

        • I flew on the second service out from MEL-NRT after it was reintroduced and it had the sky suites. Not sure why it headed back to the short haul J configuration

    ooft $2.7k

after catching 4 x 9hr flights in business class to bangkok/kenya for $1.7k this seems expensive

Different products, destination and demand. Everyone wants to go to Japan. Fewer want to go to Rwanda.

  • Omg… This is very tempting….

  • Any similar deals departing from Perth?

  • Anyone know if $1020 is decent for a direct economy flight Sydney to Tokyo?

    • +1

With ANA? Pretty decent. It can go lower to around 900-950 but the difference is not too big.

    • +1

Not bad but you can find the same price with JAL (who I've chosen to fly with for my trip in May after quite some time comparing the two).

      • +1

Yep closest price I found for similar date range was at JAL was $1190 (I'm planning September). They do have refund with a fee though compared to ANA which has no refunds. The free domestic flights with ANA promo that just popped on OzB sounds pretty good too, might go for that one.

  • Always shocks me just how many ozbargainers fly business class without points on the regular

    • Company pays.
