Motorola Atrix Unlocked $208 Shipped from JB Hi-Fi Factory Offers

220

The original Atrix was a pretty solid phone. I saw the Defy sell out from JB Hifi http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/79242 and now they have reduced the Atrix to $199 + $9 shipping (to Sydney). I think that is a good price for a solid Android phone. Seems to be around $300 elsewhere.

  • Is this the version with the over the air update to ICS?

    • According to Motorola, this will remain on 2.3 (Gingerbread). If you want ICS, you may be neeeding Cyanogenmod.

    • I have an Atrix (ME860) myself and I upgraded it to the unofficial CM 10 Jellybean ROM. I really love the overall performance of Jellybean.
But the battery life could be an issue so I bought 2 batteries from EBay for 10 bucks only.
In summary I'm pretty happy with this phone.

      • How have you found the battery life to be?

        • It lasts for 1 day, typical battery life for a smartphone. You cannot expect too much.

      • Do you mind to share more information about the CM10 stability and missing features on this phone?

        • So far so good. I have not experienced any crash yet.

          Here are the known bugs:

          No fingerprint navigation or unlock

          Builtin video camera don't work.

I think there must be some mistake, the model listed on JB's website is MB860. Isn't that the Atrix 4G? If that is the case, the spec should be this:

  • This was a $700+ phone a about a year ago.

It has the same Nvidia Tegra 2 dual core processor as the Motorola Xoom and is packed full of features that will put some of todays top end phones to shame.

    • Yes, I like the idea of the fingerprint reader. Easier login. And HDMI out is nice. I need to track down one of those nice docks that will allow it to be a little media player.

Pretty good value, think this might match the $129 Acer Liquid Metal in terms of bang for buck.

  • looks like a great phone but the UI is ugly and no ICS :(

If you are at North Sydney and like to pay me $20 I will be happy to upgrade your Atrix to JB :-)

      • What ROM are you using to upgrade to JB?

      • +8

If you are at North Sydney and would like JellyBean, go to XDA for free.

  • -7

    Lol
I think it's better to pay bit more and buy Nexus 7 or something

    • +7

      Bro…The Nexus 7 is a tablet…. which costs $250 minimum and has no 3G.

    • +3

Good luck making phone calls with that Nexus 7.

  • How is this phone compared to the earlier deal with the Defy+ at $99 on Telstra online?

    • this would be better value as unlocked

hard to compare as different specs

    • The defy+ already cost $100 to unlock.

      • Not if you unlock it yourself. It isn't all that difficult

        • Please share, no one has came up with an unlocking method on the thread.

    • I'm actually upgrading from my old Defy. The Defy is a nice and tough, but the processor is pretty slow. This phone is "one size up" from a Defy.

      http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3708&idPhone2=…

    • this phone has faster CPU, more RAM/ROM, larger LCD, more 3G bands,…

  • any idea how this will perform on the optus network (with vaya) in melbourne. cheers

    • Its HSDPA 850 900 1900 2100 mHz, Optus uses 900 and 2100 so it covers both metro and regional 3G as well as GSM.

Telstra is 850 and 2100 so it will work fine with Telstra too.

  • Is it worth upgrading from an HTC Desire HD to this? I heard the Atrix has terrible battery life,,

  • i recommend everyone whos reading this post just get a s3 and be done with it, you wont be upgrading every 6 months and the rom support will last you at least years to come.

    • +2

That's what they said about the s2

      • actually ill rephrase that, get quad core phone(tegra 3, exynos, krait etc) and it should be good for at least few years, 2GB preferably….if we go by PC tech in general…the q6600 still going strong.

        • My Q6600 is still going strong from a few years ago. But I've dropped and drowned a couple of phones during that time. Otherwise, I would have bought myself the latest phone as you suggest!

      • +1

I'm still on the original SGS, and custom ROM support on XDA has always been great. Running on JB.

  • How difficult is it to get ICS running on it? Any links on how to do it?

  • +2

i have used this for about 2 months (tried most of the available ROMS)not a very good phone. it is a bit slow no matter which ROM, default Motorola stuff is very slow (Laggy). but i paid $450 vs now its only $199 so good deal.
and Anyone looking to get his phone, I spotted car navigation kit (official motorola car dock)for $9 and entertainment dock for $9 (hdmi out etc.) at Jb hifi werribee plaza. original price was both are $69 each. there were 2 of each type. they would be a great companion for the Atrix.

  • I was suprised to see it's still running Android 2.2. Guess that's the fate of having android phones. Mine only has Ginger Bread :(

  • I don't mean to burst anyones bubble, but the specs on other websits say this doesn't have the 900Mhz Band for 3G Optus/Virgin/TPG , only 850 which is Telstra or Vodaphone only…. bugger!

    • Optus UMTS 2100MHz should still be fine, right?
      http://www.optus.com.au/aboutoptus/About+Optus/Network+Cover…

    • Mine has just arrived and it has four 3G frequencies (850/900/1900/2100MHz) shown on the box.

I think there is some confusion about Atrix model numbers as there is the Atrix 4G (MB860) in the US that doesn't have 900MHz and there is the international ME860 that should include 900MHz and there is this MB860 in Australia that includes 900MHz as well.

  • I just don't quite understand why some mobile phones have no radio?

    • They can't work without radio. Oh, you mean FM radio.

  • How are you supposed to buy from their website? It keeps telling me to fill in the highlighted missing fields when everything is filled in.

I have one and currently in the midst of getting Motorola to do a repair on it. I loved this phone since it converts into a laptop using a special dock. But I really cannot recommend anyone to this phone with the problems that have been happening to me.. :(

    1) Bad quality build and digitiser components - I swear I treat the phone like a princess (never dropped) and parts out of it still fail. The Digitiser by default is only two fingered multi-touch (although you can hack it to do more). Furthermore, if you search on XDA forums, you will find this part is the worse part ever and nearly everyone has had prolems with it requiring a change to the digitiser. Its only 5 months since mine was repaired under warranty and I'm waiting to send it back AGAIN on the same issues.

    2) Motorola service is attrocious within Australia. They do not have local presence and require 3rd party contracted service centres to do their work (including Sydney Cellular repairs who dont know how to fix phones). The last repair I did took a total of 8+ weeks and only after constantly chasing them up to get it under way. It is absolutely not acceptable for a customer to continue to chase it when they promised quick turn around times of less than 2 weeks.

    3) Motorola has ditched the wonderful Webtop idea and also any hope of ICS or JB for Atrix despite promising their users an upgrade nearly a year ago. Furthermore, they compensate their US customers with a $100 rebate on their next Moto phone, but not anywhere else in the world. Yes, you can do ICS or JB but the ROM isnt complete and lacks some critical features such as the Webtop, such as the Fingerprint reader etc.

  • This is a great mobile deal and thanks to the OP for the post.

My teenage daughters…yes two…think this is a great phone.

It quickly updates to 2.3.4 and is very smooth.

    So:

    $ 208 delivered = $9 /month (24 months)

    TPG $550 plan = 14.99

I pay $24 per month effectively for a $60 plan and I get $550 calls and 1.5GB AND a decent phone.

  • I was happy to snatch up this deal, but now I'm sad I could've paid $40 less:
    http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/mobile-phones/mobiles-outrigh…

Btw, if you flash it with CM10, you have a JB mobile with a Quadrant ahead of a Samsung Galaxy 10.1:
    http://samsunggeeks.com/2012/06/03/galaxy-s3-benchmark-tests…

    • Offer is expired!

      • Wow, that was fast! Pity, gone with the wind.

        Reported to OP.

Or… hang in there; desperate as they seemed in liquidating the stock, it may come back online.
