  • speed?

    no info on speed??

    • +2

since it has to encrypt the data while copying its probably fairly slow.

    • sorry, we don't have that info at the moment. we'll ask the supplier and post an update here soon.

That's pretty poor, you should know what you're selling.

        Probably USB 1.1

        • +1

have you seen many 16GB USB 1.1 around?

P.s. no Paypal (and Paypal fast checkout without registration) is a deal breaker for me…

        • If it is 1.1 its probably worth more than $18 as an antique collector's piece.
That was a joke - but you get my drift.

  • Not a true hardware solution, you could use a generic USB drive with some encryption software that does the same

    Explanation:

It requires software on the computer to encrypt / decrypt

You could use a Linux encrypted file system or 7zip are 2 solutions

    • Probably true. The beauty of the award-winning software is that it's drag-and-drop easy. You just have a simpler option.

    • Linux encrypted file system or 7zip
how to use it as portable? does it come with portable version?

ie: run it on any PC that does not have these software installed.

      • This 16gb drive will not run on PC's that don't have it's software installed either

        Here is a Linux alternative:

        http://binwaheed.blogspot.com.au/2008/09/portable-encrypted-…

7zip is what I mostly use for my Dropbox sensitive data:

        http://www.7-zip.org/7z.html

        • Actually, that is incorrect. The encryption software is installed on the drive itself. It does not require it to be installed on the computer that's it's being used on.

$6.99 is requested for postage AFTER $18 is paid. WTF? I'll remember to avoid this mob in future.

    • +1

Sorry for any confusion. The details in the linked page do state that it's $18 plus postage of $6.99. If you are unhappy with your purchase please let us know and we'll be happy to provide you with a full refund if you have not already redeemed the voucher with the supplier.

For what it's worth, the postage charge payable to the supplier on redemption is capped at $6.99, regardless of the quantity ordered.

      • $25 for a 16gb usb drive!!

like Marchii says "you could use a generic USB drive with some encryption software that does the same"

      • +1

Wow, hide that in the fine print is just not nice, and you didn't try to mention the postage here!
Put + $6.99 postage on title

        • +1

Apologies. No intention to mislead. Added to main text.
If at all, if you calculate: $69.99 - $25, you are still saving $44.99.

I would just stop responding if I were you.

I agree about the fine print of high postage rate is not good.
