Got 1 when it was $200 cheaper: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/822188

    • +1

Was also $1297 last week, op posting price rises 😂

      • Yeah seems Officeworks is now called JACK!

  • Need one with 780m, how would this perform vs Legion Go or Rog Ally? Better alternative?

    • Pretty sure the ally performs better somehow!

  • +1

    only 1080p screen

    • It's a 1080p touch screen. The higher resolution version are with the new Ryzen 7940hs and about $1000 more expensive.

Only a 680m? No external graphics card?

If so just barely qualifies as a gaming laptop….

    • +1

      You have two options

      1. If you can afford it, the proprietary Asus dock will allow you to have an external 4090 without the bandwidth restrictions of Thunderbolt.

      2. You can update the BIOS to support USB4 and have a Thunderbolt eGPU, with the bandwidth limitations of Thunderbolt 3/4.

Have the 6800HS version (small bump in clocks) and 3080 XG Mobile, CPU bottlenecked in some titles (Cyberpunk, Starfield). Would not recommend pairing with the 4090 as it will be a waste of money for this configuration.

Slower and less efficient than laptops with a 7840u… So it's probably reasonably priced, but not sure it's a bargain. Currently in the market for a laptop, and I'm eyeing off in a similar price range 155h and 7840u laptops.

    • What's on your shortlist? I'm also looking for 7840 (U or HS) laptops

None seem to really hit the mark for me except picking up a Lenovo Xiaoxin via aliexpress to save $500 vs buying from Lenovo Australia

      • I was thinking the same mate, and decided to roll dice on the Lenovo xiaoxin from AliExpress. 1300$ AUD and no extra charges from DHL (gst, import tax or customs clearance etc), delivered with English windows 11 home. I have had it a week and it's such a good laptop. Really well built, fast and absolutely no fan noise. Seller was also really good. Nothing like it in aust comes close for the price if you don't want a dgpu. Hope this helps!

Haha good to know I might just pull the trigger to stop the analysis paralysis

        • +1

this sounds pretty good, any chance you can share the link?

          • @Dlinnz: As I mentioned I considered pulling the trigger on AE

Here is what I just bought 10mins ago (with coupon on same page dropped it to about $1425 or so)

The 13-14 incher is a bit cheaper from memory

Have a play around through search though you might get lucky with an even better deal.

            • @Shadowsfury: How safe is this to spend $1.5k at Ali? Fast delivery too?

              • @kaikor: I'm comfortable enough with it after using a credit card as an extra layer if something were to go wrong.

Also the laptop dropped in price by $100 today!

        • I'm using this comment to reply to @shadowsfury above too…

Ideally, I use the work laptop, but I got frustrated with the lack of admin privileges, so I want my own now :P
I wanted a modern powerful CPU with great efficiency, minimum 16gb of ram and a decent screen. Undecided on oled, but the laptop had to be under 15" so was looking at 13-14"

In no particular order, just laptops I liked mostly based on spec to $…
Acer Swift Go 14 Intel Evo (155H/16gb) - Amazon US: 1820.84 (delivered in AUD)
          MSI Prestige 13 AI EVO 13 (155H/32gb) - JB-HiFi: $2159
          Elitebook 835 G10 (7840u / 16gb) - Megabuy: $1250
          Acer Swift Go 14 EVO (i7-13700H / 16gb) - Officeworks: $1097

That allllllll said, I'm reply to @bobstanor because I had a couple of quick looks on aliexpress, but nothing stood out until I started searching Lenovo specicallyyyy and now I'm seeing a few I like…

The 2023 Lenovo ThinkBook 14+ looks very interesting to me R7840u / 32gb for $1,469.54

          What did you get Bob?

          • @GuniGuGu: Same here, i didnt event know AliExpress was a thing for laptops (mustve been living under a rock), the only downside is you'll need a plug adapter, but if you are charging the laptop via usb-c, wouldnt make a difference? correct me if i am wrong.

            • @Dlinnz: @Dlinnz Actually the ones im looking at from MS Laptop Flagship store all come with country adapters anyway… but that said, yeah, usb-c so whore cares :P
I was more concerned with the keyboard, but the ads say english keyboard.

This deal I jumped on - after talking to store owner I was comfortable with the laptop being compatible in Australia. Even shipped with a aust plug, but the plug side of the charger can easily be swapped out the with aust one (like from a monitor or something). Even came with Microsoft student 2021 edition so outlook excel word etc all on it!

                • @Bobstanator: One thing to note obviously is no international warranty. I could return the laptop if say doi etc and the AliExpress MSI store offers like a year or something, but yeah that's the risk for a legit bargain

                  • @Bobstanator: how the battery on your xiaoxin? i talked to lenovo au live chat and they were able to drop the price of ideapad 5 pro 14 inch to $1500 with core ultra 5 125h, 32gb ram 1tb ssd. xiaoxin pro 14 with same config but 7840hs is going for $1640. unsure of which to get. also how long did yours take to deliver? thanks

                    • @Muscat84: Battery life is fine - getting like 9- 11 hours, without lowering all settings to get max battery life. Only took about a week to get to me in Perth.

That's a great deal with the Intel processor! The benchmarks I have seen on the new Intel processors getting like 13 hours or so on a 75whr battery.

I would seriously jump on that deal hey, great specs for the price. The ryzen 7840hs might be slightly faster but I doubt it will mean much in real world performance. Plus you get the au warranty. How much was the laptop before you got the discount? Link?
                      Cheers

                      • @Bobstanator: oh wow 13 hrs on 75whr battery is great. this laptop has an 84 whr so hopefully it lives up to it.

                        https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-5/lenovo-ideapad-pro-5i-gen-9-(14-inch-intel)/83d2cto1wwau1
its $1800 with the added ram and ssd. told the guy i could get it down to around 1600 through ShopBack 10.4% cashback, so he decided to drop it a bit more haha

sucks that there are a lack of reviews on these online, made it harder for me to finally cop it. was only able to find 2 videos

                        • @Muscat84: Yeah ok fair enough, you end up making a decision?
The ryzen 7840hs from AliExpress is back on sale again if you were interested

                          • @Bobstanator: yeah just went with the quote i got from lenovo chat. removes any potential stress of dealing with international shipping + warranty

  • What’s the gpu ?

  • +2

wow, I did not know an IGPU is classified as gaming laptop now.

Anyway, this only has 680m, 780m is better

    • Lately the AMD integrated GPUs are impressive but still could not complete with a mid range normal GPU from at least the last few years.

I think, from memory, this 680m is a little bit faster than my old 1050ti for a comparison.

The real bonus with these integrated GPUs is the power saving.

If you were going to use the igpu with no other graphics card, I would also aim for the 780m.

      • I have the HP Zbook Firefly 14A G10 14" WUXGA Touchscreen, Ryzen 7 Pro 7840HS which has 780m

  • i personally dont think its a good deal. for a similiar or cheaper price tag you can get a acer nitro 5 or a lenovo LOQ 15 with a discrete GPU which is way better then the AMD Raedon graphics this thing has. for the price tag of maybe sub $1000 it could be a good deal but rn it isnt

    • This is slimmer and lighter
