      • Can you share what the title of the email was and the sender? Thanks

        • +2

          From [email protected]

          Hi xxx,

You have selected 30,000 bonus Points* as your exclusive benefit.

Once you've applied and are approved for a Velocity Points earning credit card with an annual fee, and meet the minimum spend criteria for the individual credit card offer you've applied for, your benefit will be applied.*

          Terms and Conditions apply.

          Yours sincerely,
          Velocity Frequent Flyer

          • @firestint: Thanks, still yet to receive mine. Selected points benefit on 16 Feb

      • After waiting days for the email to come through, I've now received it three times. Overcompensating!

    • Received it

  • +1

Applied and was approved for the Altitude Velocity Platinum from Westpac yesterday. 100K points (70K + 30K) for $124 ($49Annual Fee + $75 Rewards Program Fee). Upon activating, it says in the finical table document that the card fee is $0.00 first year, reverting to $175 the following year. Anyone else had this?

    • +1

See what you're charged first statement.

Did you get the email from Velocity saying you're activated for the 30k bonus points offer? Cos you may not necessarily get it as it's in the terms and conditions..

      • +3

In my experience these velocity promos are pretty flexible. Last November I had the Velocity Flyer Card from Virgin Money, and a week later Velocity put out a 30k bonus for new applications. They still backdated the points to me on the first statement.

        • +2

Can't remember if I got the email last time a few months ago, got the bonus points with Westpac.

You'd think that if you log back in to the portal, it says you've selected the bonus points - that you would still get it like you say..

          • +1

@adrianhughes1998: So did you still not receive the email?

I would probably give them a call today to chase it up

          • +3

@adrianhughes1998: Yeah exactly. The system prompts you to apply for a card as soon as you select your benefit. Will def be chasing it up with Velocity if they try and pull a swifty haha

            • +2

@SenorQuack: I went on online chat and the lady assured me it's registered on their system and that it's ok to apply for credit card now. Even if there's no email she said to keep transcript if I'm not happy but that will def get the points.

  • Any experienced churners have an idea of how much you can earn if you go hard with it, after the waiting periods and limiting damage to credit score?

I've been doing one a year very casually, it's difficult to figure out what the upper limit for earnings is if you tryhard it.

There doesn't seem to be that many cards left with really good fee/reward ratios

    • +1

It's difficult to figure out the upper limit because it completely depends on the person's individual circumstances & financial situation, as well as opaque assessment criteria performed by the financial institution. Sharing individual/personal factors on the internet is something most people wouldn't be comfortable sharing, so public data points are limited.

In an extreme example, I would expect someone who doesn't have a mortgage, no dependents, and is earning a high income on a preferred occupation can sustain multiple credit enquiries and a high credit card limit in theory.

'Good fee/reward ratios' is subjective. For sure some deals aren't as generous as before, but in most situations the typical person churning will end up ahead assuming no change in spending habits.

    • +6

I churned through 8 cards in 2023. No change to credit score except a few points up and down.

      • Do you remember the cards ?

        • +3

Citi Prestige, both ANZ black cards, Virgin Money Flyer (Twice), Westpac, BankSA and Suncorp Qantas.

          • @Autonomic: Hi mate, how many months did you wait in between the two Virgin Money Flyer cards? I closed my Virgin Money card in Dec 23 (Although it has not been reflected in my credit report yet), and am a bit hesitant whether I should apply for it again soon.

            • +1

@babipanggang: I closed it in July and opened it in December. Anecdotally I've heard 3 months is how long you should wait between closing/opening NAB/Citi backed cards.

  • +1

All cards below are eligible for the 30k bonus.
Westpac card annual fee assumes you go to the effort of signing up a free transaction account.

    Altitude Velocity Platinum
    Annual fee: $49 + $75 Velocity Fee
Minimum spend: $4000 within 90 days
    Spend bonus points: 70,000 points

    Altitude Velocity Black
    Annual fee: $150 + $75 Velocity Fee
Minimum spend: $6000 within 120 days
    Spend bonus points: 120,000 points

    Virgin Flyer Velocity
    Annual fee: $64
Minimum spend: $1500 per month for 2 months
    Spend bonus points: 60,000 points

    Virgin High Flyer Velocity
    Annual fee: $289
Minimum spend: $3500 per month for 2 months
    Spend bonus points: 40,000 points

    • What about Amex Velocity one with 120k bonus points?

    • My Westpac Altitude Velocity Platinum came with a $0 annual fee. Had a transaction account opened from 2021 when I last churned a Westpac card, haven't used it since. Applied through the portal and logged in for the $49 discount fee, but since being approved all the documentation says no annual fee for the first year.

      • You will still pay $75 for the velocity awards fee

        • Yes thats still on the paperwork, just surprising that they knocked off the already reduced $49 annual fee. Wondering if anyone experienced had the same?

    • I'm confused - aren't they all eligible for the 30k bonus? (I've applied for the AMEX Velocity Business, which clearly states that it includes the 30k bonus points…)

    • How to get Altitude Velocity Black Annual fee: $150? I only get $295. I made a Choice and Life account. Also subbed into the rewards and offer program.

      • Did you apply while logged in?

        • +1

yeh it just seemed to need a night to sort itself out, once I tried again it appled the discount :)

    • What's the free Westpac transaction account? I can only see one that's $5/month.

      • Open a new Westpac Choice account online between 01/02/24 and 30/09/24 to have the monthly Account-Keeping Fee waived for the first 12 months.

Pay no Account-Keeping Fee for the first 12 months on your new Westpac Choice account and save $5 a month.

  • Any thoughts on applying for multiple cards in this promo period (obivously with differnt banks) - is the 30K points a one time offer or redeemable on mulitple cards?

    • The T&C's says you're entitled to the benefit only once during the promotion period.

  • Does anyone know how long it typically takes from minimum spend to receiving points / upgrade in status?

  • Keep encountering the error "Oops - something went wrong, Uh-oh. It looks like we've had an error. Please follow one of the actions below to continue." when signing up, anyone else getting this issue?

    • Ive been getting this since late last year and tried to do it again whenever they have the boosted points offers
This time I might try contacting CS about it

    • CS said I need to go into a NAB branch to complete the application

… after they got me to clear cookies, cache, etc.

    • i had try 3 or 4 times to complete the application cos it kept doing this bullshit.

      • Did you do anything different to make it work?

        • At first I just started more applications as it said they would discard the previous.

But then I just kept resuming the application. I think it crashed at one page, I resumed, got another page done then it resumed from the next page the following time. Bit of a pain. They have shit systems

          • @bohn: At what point were you getting the error?
For me it was at the stage where its asking who my employer is and how long I have been there for.

I have tried resuming but it just bombs out at the same point. I have not yet tried persistently resuming over and over to see what happens though

            • @fullspend: i had it on multiple pages. bombs out on one page, then next time, managed to progress another step, then it bombs out again.

Can't remember exactly but I think I tried 3 times on different applications and also resumed two of them heh.

              They're useless.

    • Quick update on this…

NAB branch had no idea about it and couldn't even see my application, probably because it isn't actually a NAB product.

Been calling CS daily and each time they say its a known issue affecting lots of people and to try again in 24 hours.

      Rinse and repeat.

      • NAB? Do you mean Westpac?

        • CS told me to go to NAB

          • @fullspend: I'm sorry, but does the deal apply to NAB? Or looks like westpac, boq, Amex and Virgin only.

  • Can anyone confirm if they got extra points or status if they applied for card after confirming choice but before the email? I asked virgin and they just cut and pasted the t&c's in response. Very underhanded if they don't credit the bonuses in a hidden technicality.

    • +1

Happened to me similar past promotions and still got the bonus points.

    • +1

Well, I believe it is the payout of the bonus points which triggers the 30k bonus from Velocity to be paid out, rather than the signup date. I suspect its as long as points come through within a certain time window. I activated the Velocity 30k offer from November and applied for a standard Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer card in Dec 2023. When the first Virgin money bonus was received in Jan 24, I got the first 30k point card bonus from Virgin Money plus the 30k bonus from Velocity (November offer). When the second 30k card bonus from Virgin Money came through in Feb 24, it also triggered the 30k bonus from Velocity (Feb offer). Happy days.

      • I thought Velocity only payout 30k once. If Virgin card gives 30k+30k from Virgin and another 30k+30k from Velocity, this makes 120k in total which is fantastic.

        • gembel commented the same, but from both replies looks like you gotta have opted into the first round of promo in Nov too.

        • The two offers from Velocity (November and Feb) were separate offers - it seems like they weren't a once per year event like qantas offers.

  • Those that applied and got approved, did you have to wait long to receive the card? Almost a week and nothing yet, called them and they now said its 5 to 7 business days (as opposed to the 5 days I was told when applying).

    • Entirely depends on the card you went for, I'd say. Some insitutions send them out faster than others and it may or may not be via priority mail. And I believe AusPost has reduced their letter delivering frequency as well.

I only just got a card I applied for today which was approved one week ago.

      • I was approved last Fri, a week and nothing yet in my mailbox. Other cards that I applied were all received after 2 to 3 business days.

  • +1

Anyone got the 30K bonus if you signed up to the AMEX 100K offer in late Jan early Feb ? My Bonus 100K points got posted but no sign of the 30K

  • Opted for the 30k points on Sunday afternoon and applied for the Westpac Altitude Platinum the same day. Didn't receive any confirmation email from Velocity re my choice of the 30k points until Tuesday afternoon.

Credit card application was approved Tuesday evening, just had to upload my two latest payslips. Pretty smooth application process and being able to add the digital card to Google wallet straight away is handy.

    • Wait, you're meant to receive a 30k points email confirmation?

  • +1

i applied and was approved for the Virgin Money velocity and the Westpac Altitude Velocity Black credit cards in November.
Both were approved 17/11/2023 and 18/11/2023.
I received the 30,000 points on 18/12 for the Velocity card.
I reached min spend on the Westpac card 18/01 but didn't get the velocity bonus points, just the credit card bonus points.

The promo did not state it was one set of bonus points per customer.

I finally got the second lot of bonus points today but had to email them to investigate.

  • -1

Amex Velocity Platinum is 120K points now.

  • How about using amex referral link to apply? Still eligible for the 30000 points?

    • They don't seem to care where you apply through as long as it is after activating the offer

    • @LuckyL - did you ever get a definitive answer on this?

I asked AMEX via live chat and they were unable to clarify whether AMEX referrals will still qualify for the Velocity bonus promo.

      • +1

I will check it out soon. I got my amex velocity point and will see whether I can get 30000 points from velocity

  • Anyone got the 30K bonus points yet (either credited/showing into AMEX or credited to velocity) ?

    • Im still waiting too. I got the card bonus straight away but waiting for the 30k

      • got it! it went straight into the velocity account, statement period hasnt finished yet

  • So I opted for 200 bonus status points and have met the minimum spend for Westpac Platinum.
Anyone have insights into how long it would take to receive the bonus?

  • Only got 19885 points even though I activated for the 30k. Description is “Auto Transfer Campaign Bonus Points”, which should be the right one yeah? Got it the day after being approved for Virgin Money.

    • That's not this bonus. You don't get this one until you meet the spend requirement and there is no requirement to use auto transfer.

  • Hi all, I know similar questions have been asked but I just want to make sure. I cancelled a few days ago the virgin money credit card I got at the end of last year (1500 spend for 2 months 30k VFF points per month).

Would I be eligible for getting the points on this new virgin australia velocity flyer card which is essentially the same requirements/bonuses?

If so, is the reason I would be eligible is that this is technically a different card since the names are slightly different? Or is it because when I cancelled my last virgin credit card, it closed my account and I am applying as a new customer again for the same credit card.

Is my train of thought correct or am I just completely wrong?

  • The annual fees+ on the Westpac cards are ridiculous!

  • +2

Looks like only one bonus per person doesnt matter how many credit cards you apply.

"You are unable to change any Exclusive Benefit once selected and you will only be able to receive one Exclusive Benefit during this promotion"

  • Not sure if anyone can confirm this but my colleague have said him and his with got the 30k points on an already active Virgin Flyer card.

  • +1

just got rejected for the velocity amex with a base salary of 145k :/

    • Raise it with AFCA, I have. It's total BS.

  • does anyone know if virgin money cards have a 12 month wait before having a new card for the bonus points?

  • I just got the 90K points (60K Bonus + 30K special offer) credited in my Velocity account from the Velocity Flyer Card. I think the statement generated and points credited automatically generated when my balance reached -$1500. Thanks Virgin Money!

    • Did you get points after statement? Just asking because i got statement on the 9th of March and still have not recieved any points in my velocity acc

      • Got my statement on the 10th and haven't got the bonus points yet either.

        • I have always recieved poins from Virgin CC instantly, but this one takes a while

          • @HeroNoone: Just an update. My points (second month $30K) came through today. The first month plus sign up bonus was credited the same day as statement was issued but this lot took a little while. I used the message tab in the Virgin online banking and they said it can take up to fifteen days.

  • +1

Just got the first batch of 30k with the Virgin Money card and 2 lots of 30k bonus. Caught me by surprise that they paid a “November campaign” when I never registered for it. Cannot complain

    • also got 90K points

      60K Bonus + 30K November Campaign

so we will get another 30K after 2nd month $1500 spend.

      • Is that 30K bonus from this campaign or bonus points from Virgin Money

Anyone got 30K bonus from Velocity after getting their bonus points from AMEX Velocity Platinum sign-ups ?

      • +1

Awesome! Same for me. Hopefully another 30K come through next month

      • Same, I received
        30k - DE 30KBPs November Campaign
30k - All In Campaign Feb 24 30k Bonus Points
        30k - FLYER 60K OFFER

  • If I were to apply for Virgin Flyer today, it will take 2 statements cycle to meet the criteria (or sometimes in May), will I still be qualified for the bonus points, even if I dont meet the spending criteria be 31 March 2024?

  • anyone applied for a virgin card and noticed it's slow for approval? Usually I get approved the next day, but I applied on Monday and still not heard anything.

  • Anyone know how long to get points after reaching the spend criteria for the Westpac Altitude Black Card?

  • Anyone had the 200 Status Credits hit their account yet?!

  • If I apply for 2x eligible cards, will I get 60,000 points (i.e. 2x 30,000)?

  • +2

Received 90k + 30k velocity for westpac black

    • Nice one, how long after reaching the criteria?

      • +1

Achieved 12 March, Velocity arrived 15 March

        • I achieved the spend I think over a week ago and haven't received yet. Anyway to check what the hold up may be?
