[QLD] Solar Battery Rebate Scheme - $4000 Rebate if Highest Income <$66,667, $3000 Rebate if Combined Income <$180,000 @ QLD Gov

2440

The Queensland government will give out rebates of between $3,000 and $4,000 for households to install solar battery storage systems.

The $10 million program will begin today with the government giving out about 2,000 means-tested rebates.

Was waiting for this after diligent reseach ruled out an EV as my new car, despite a similar large subsidy for them here in Queensland.

      • Pain in the arse.

    • well I'm under the old 44c feed in rate to 2028 and they don't let you go over 5kw system

jealous of those under the old old rate and unlimited km system on farms that had solar systems that tracked the sun wherever it went

    need in other states too

  • I heard it was an Itechworld battery that burnt Battery World

While it is a good opportunity to go battery backup for some, but still not financially feasible for me and to be honest i don't know if it ever will be. I am lucky enough to still be on the original $0.44 QLD FIT and haven't paid a power bill since 2012. It would be nice to blackout proof though

Sorry but I find this wrong. Others are paying higher bills to cover the costs of these legacy plans.

And I bet you think the rich pay no taxes either

        • What about my comment makes you think that?

@PainToad: Because the 44c doesn't come directly from the retailer

Energex is an Australian-based wholly Queensland Government owned electricity company distributing power to 1.5 million homes and businesses in South East Queensland.

The 44c is coming from Energex and they deposit this to the retailer. So you could say taxes pays for the 44c but not directly from other customers

I'm not trying to stir shit but yes it's unfair and sometimes you miss out or the opportunity wasn't there

But you also need to understand when I installed solar for a 5kw system I paid like $15k in 2010 which is absurd as it is like couple thousand for the same thing. Yes I broke even and made my moneys back plus more but that was a long term investment that worked out

      • This 44c FIT is going to end some time is that right?

        • +1

          Yes it ends in 2028

    • stay on the feed in and let others with a 10-20 cent feed in get the battery rebate.

    • $0.44

Damn, I'd be operating a solar farm at this point.

      • Atl the time we were limited to 5kw and I was only prepared to shell out for a 3kw on an untested long term investment that was good on paper.

  • Now your phone will be flooded by scammers promoting scam versions of it.

Remember if you get a phone call (Or even door to door sales ) promoting any government solar, water saving, solar battery etc scheme you can just about guarantee they are scammers.

If you want these things check the government website about them and contact a reputable installer.

Stephen Miles is kicking goal after goal.

    • This would have been in the pipeline long before he knocked AP off. Government policy, unless it's related to youth crime or ambulance/hospitals, isn't usually so efficiently conceived & rolled out.

Anyone know any reputable installers near Gold Coast?

    • Just remember that it has to be an approved installer and there is only 205 across all of QLD.

    • Did you find one?

More class welfare. Going green makes no financial sense if you're an investor.

investments need not be compatible with climate collapse. its a matter of priorities.

  • Load shedding during peak demand is coming without new power stations, and a few batteries on houses isn't going to stop it.
But a battery will power your house when the grid goes down.

One other "benefit" that's not often talked about is the blackout protection of a battery system, especially one that's designed to work with PV when off-grid.

How would you feel when your house is the only one on your street with lights on, when there is a power outage in the area? And you continue to have power even if the power outage continues for days, as your battery will be charged up again by your solar panels when the sun comes up!

  • Hmm…

We already have a very low combined yearly power bill of less than $150. This is with about 55% grid independence and 7.3 MWh fed back to the grid: Combined savings of ~$1650 per year.

I thought batteries would never make sense. The price per kWh would have to be incredibly low for it to make financial sense. We could only "reduce" our bill by around $350 per year by increasing grid independence to 98%… And that would take a monster battery, which takes a couple of decades to pay for itself.

I work part-time, and come in just under the limit for the $4000 subsidy. With a few of the 6 kWh batteries going for around the $4000-mark (or a bit over when factoring in installation) this is a no-brainer! We would increase yearly grid independence to ~93% (saving another ~$300 per year), and the battery would be almost paid for from Day 1! Thanks OP!

Any suggestions for particular models? I'd be keen to get backup power - We have had a few outages the last couple of years :)

    • Search "Home Backup Generators"

I'm aware that a 6kWh battery won't provide permanent "off-grid" power. But the right model (or some additional piece of gear enabling seamless power transfer) could allow us to at least utilize whatever the sun provides when the power goes out and function as an oversized UPS for my home server.

Go through like good little boys and girls and get your MyGovID

  • Any of the approved batteries $3000 or under? Cheers.

    Lodgement sent this morning :)

    • What system did you go for? :)

      • 2x Tesla Powerwalls 🔋

        • My parents have a 1x Powerwall and a modest solar system. Says it barely helps with the bills, their usage must be really high. I guess the bills would be much higher without that setup.

Received my confirmation on $3,000 approved rebate, now just to wait on my installer, not long now ^_^

  • 2,000 means-tested rebates

    Should it be OOS already?

So rich, retired baby boomers can get the rebate seeing it's only income tested?
