Hope we get some Ozito price match on the pole pruner!

    • They matched with the Xu1 pole pruner/hedge trimmer last time…

      • I got the Xu1 and it was garbage. The hedger was ok, but the pruner I just couldn't get it to cut properly, no matter how much adjusting I did with it.

        • mine works well, in fact I'd say the pruner/chainsaw is better than the hedge trimmer. did you install the chain correctly so it was travelling in the correct direction?

          • @earthqauke: Yeah, I made sure it was installed correctly. Had the chain exactly like the picture showed in the proper direction.

Never got a clean cut with it. It always bounced off and ripped the wood to shreds. Maybe I should flip the chain and see how it goes.

    • +6

neighbour threw theirs out, it looked like it was only used once so I picked it up, bought a battery and it was fine! They installed the chain backwards and wouldnt cut, once flipped it works well enough

I have filled 18+ bins easy over summer so far since we have 3. Im not talking about white person filling, im talking full blown asian style, cut leafy stuff after collection, jam it down with a shovel and let it sit, then the weekend before collection, jam it down again and fill it with logs and other brushy stuff. I have had 1 bin not collected due to weight limit but most will be 50+ kg. I also keep larger logs over 4'' for the fire/camping etc.

For what I paid, its a bargain, at 99 its a good deal. If im in a rush to fill the bins, a 2ah will fill all 3, but not as extensively packed as my usual method.

Id cut more and use neighbours bins but our council is one of those types, everything needs approval and emphasis is on green. Our place is overgrown and hard to manage. Our closest reserve is pretty much a rain forest!

Normally I would say "buy better tools" but for this price and the average guy it will last years. I dont use the hedger much but anything over 8-10mm it will stall it but most will stall at that size

      • +3

Thanks for cutting a long story short, or should I say pruning?

        • +1

Nothing short about this. Definitely try pruning!

      • I tried it, chain was installed correctly but it wouldn't cut very thick branches, was kicking back alot, battery needs more voltage. They released a 2x18v variant that would do much better.

        • i cut a 7''+ hardwood branch yesterday, had to get creative since its wider then the chain and it took most of the battery but did about 10x 4'' logs cuts too

I dont get any kick back and the motor/battery safety cuts off if I overload it. Id say kick back is more how youre using it, the angle vs weight of the unit. Im not a pro though, just done a lot since i was 10 (slave labour asian parents)

          • @WT: The pole was fully extended since that's it's utility, so I would not be able to provide the same force as it would upclose

            • @BargainKen: you shouldnt push down too much, let the blade do the work

Battery stuff doesnt have RPM to push down like a 2 stroke or the torque of a 240v wired motor

    • Yep I'm looking for one as well…already have too many ozito batteries to change ecosystems now

    • XU1 pruner and trimmer kit is $148..works out to be similar to this one already - skin + batter and charger

Would not suck the skin off a glass of milk

    • +1

The upcoming vacuum cleaner is a 'new' model that runs off the Xfinity Battery.

      • Might explain the $50 price increase between this deal and the previous deal

        • I own the previous model and it looks like this (more of a handheld vac with a plastic tube extension).

The new vac looks more like a dyson-style stick vac.

          • +1

@RichardL: Very true. For the price and included 5-year warranty, it seems like a great deal. It's better than a Dyson because the ability to swap the batteries is more user-friendly.

            • @HamBoi69: That's where the Bosch 18v Serie 6 and 7 vacuums have an advantage over Dyson.

            • @HamBoi69: Very easy to get an adapter and use Ozito, Makita, Dewalt etc batteries in the Dysons

              • @whitelie: How do they handle the lower input voltage? Dyson batteries use a six-cell 21.6V design vs five-cell 18v for most power tool batteries.

      • Do you know if the worx batteries from Supercheap work with these or with an adapter?

    • I have the whole set and most of the tools with the exception of the vacuum (previous year) was awful..had to return it later that week.

The line trimmer, edger, pruner, hedge trimmer and chainsaw have been brilliant. The lawn mower needs its blades regularly sharpened and can struggle with long/lush grass and gets clogged between the mower and the catcher very easily.

  • They finally released a Ferrex/Xfinity Heat Gun.

Been waiting so long, I ended up picking up a second hand PowerG (Autobarn Compatible) from eBay last year.

  • +2

    what - no line trimmer??

  • Patrol 6 in 1 garden tool seems great value too

    • +2

Yeah but it's petrol. PITA dealing with fuel mixtures, servo runs, oil, smoke, noise…

      • But it is quiet powerful

      • You listed a few cons for petrol. Fair points. I'll balance it with some cons for battery tools. Higher start up cost to purchase skin, batteries and charger. If you don't have spare batteries, you have to stop working to recharge once the batteries go flat.

  • +1

any feedback on the pole pruner/ hedge trimmer? What puts me off Aldi stuff is that I have heard returns are a pain

    • No issues with mine. They didn't even check the box

    • It's effective enough for what it is. Successfully used it to cut up a large (maybe 200mm dia, 10m long) branch that came down but was half stuck in another tree recently, in order to get it grounded and cleaned up. Saved myself paying professionals to come get it down.

I kinda wish the saw head would tilt the other way (so it could cut horizontally when pointing the pole straight up) but it's still been useful.

    • i posted above

  • New vacuum sounds nice, brushless and XFINITY compatible is a great combo. Don't need another one tho.

Also give credit to ALDI for new mower image, it does look like a slightly revised model ;)

    • +1

Was more commenting on the hedge trimmer picture. It's the exact same with the same dude doing the same thing.

    Watching Bunnings………………………….

    • +10

TBH - Aldi is keeping Bunnings honest.

Just imagine the price margin that Bunnings applies when Aldi specials finish.

During Masters's time, Bunnings had really competitive prices. The demise of Masters created a field day for Bunnings (except for Aldi specials period).

      • Bunnings batteries are a good $20 cheaper than Aldi which they use to sucker you into the ozito system. Other nicety with Bunnings is they're sold year round, Aldi gotta wait for specials to come around.

    Have fun <tm>

  • +2

Last time this bunch was up - Bunnings matched with their Ozito 2 x18v 370mm (brushed) mower. I got this for my mother but I would urge folks to AVOID it and get the Aldi brushless one instead, the Ozito brushed 370mm is quite gutless - and an ordinary bit of kit IMHO. The Aldi brushless one had good reports on power - alternatively go the the Aldi steel deck brushless, which is $500 but much more powerful, near low end petrol performance.

    • I am really hanging out for the steeldeck brushless to come back to Aldi, my current Aldi one just can't keep up with the crazy grass growth I have in my backyard but I have so many Aldi batteries I don't really want to switch brands. But it sure does suck not knowing when they will bring it back.

I think the people that sold the house before me seeded their lawn to make it look good but used some stupid strain of grass because my neighbors doesn't grow like mine.

      • Same here, but i dont know if they will ever sell it again as last time it ended up in the discount pile as not many people bought it at full price.

      • try cutting more often. We have our buffalo at max height so its super thick and even with a petrol honda, cutting 2x week is easier and about the same time as 1x per week because I dont need to go over areas to mulch it in

        • +1

Would love to but its hard to find the time to now it as much as I do, that's why I am longing for a more powerful mower as it would allow me to work faster and maybe be able to hit it a few times a week. I have 400ish sqm of grass and it is so dense that the mower in this catalogue struggles if I got busy and missed a week.

But yeah no idea if the steeldeck electric would be good enough or if I should just go petrol.

          • @denserham: you can look into PGR's

The other thing you can do is scalp it which can force the grass to play catch up

            • @WT: I've tried scalping it I think? Depends how you define it. Is it mowing it super short? Honestly this aldi mower just won't do it, the base system of the grass is soo thick. It is a type of grass that will grow up around a bush and kill it almost like a weed. It has carpeted over a brickpath I uncovered with a pressure washer a year ago making it disappear.

I have gone on Gumtree multiple times over the last few years looking at miniture goats and sheep but never pulled the trigger. I would flamethrower it and salt the earth if it was feasible.

              • @denserham: yea it puts the grass under stress when you cut below the crown, thins it out etc.

The harder you scalp it, the more stress and buffer you get but it looks pretty bad for a couple of weeks. but after a scalp, you might not mow for 2-3 weeks, if you do its just a quick trim

The other problem is you open up the canopy for weed seeds

Maybe search your type of grass to give other solutions

    • Do Bunnings even sell the brushed Ozito mowers any more?

  • Don't understand why anyone would want to get in to the Aldi cordless platform. You can't get new tools whenever you want, and if something dies then good luck getting a replacement.

    • If you have a store with good markdowns you can get tools at pretty good prices. There have also been tools in the past which Ozito did not have an equivalent of such as the nail gun and sliding mitre saw - they are a lot more covered now these days though.

YMMY with stores and also the returns thing as mentioned.

      • +1

If you have a store with good markdowns you can get tools at pretty good prices.

Can confirm this was how we got into the Xfinity/Ferrex tools ecosystem. We picked up a few tools and batteries that were heavily markdown (~50% off) at our local ALDI years ago and slowly adding to it.

  • Does the worx batteries from Supercheap work with these or an adapter?

    • +3

      Different batteries.

Xfinity/Ferrex batteries shares the same platform as Autobarn Tools (GT Garage Tough/PowerG).

      • Thanks for explaining

      • Hi, just wonder whether the cordless 2 in 1 pole pruner and hedger skin can use my Makita battery? thanks

        • It won't be able to use Makita Batteries unless you get an adapter.

  • +1

    Nice!

I’ll be seeing what Bunnings offer up as price matches!

Could use misting fan, glue gun, maybe vac, inflator and pruner.

If it’s Ozito or Ryobi I’ll buy it.

  • I do find the grass gets caught between mower and catcher and has wheel supports have bent but apart from that it has been brilliant.

  • Anyone used this Mower ?
Any good to buy this or shud I get from Bunnings for Ozito or Ryobi?

    • Depends on your budget and amount of grass to mow, if you can stretch the budget bunnings have the brushless ozito model for $499 (steel deck, wider, etc).

      • But that's double the cost though. 😔

  • Bought their petrol mover 173cc last week, lucky haven't opened the box yet. Will return and grab the battery one.

How does this mower compare? I guess the bunnings equiv is the same price?

  • Hi legends, pls advise which battery option (20V 4.0ah Battery $49.99 (or) 20V 8.0ah Battery $99.99) should I buy along with the 20V Cordless Blower Skin $59.99 (Ferrex)?

    • +1

4ah you should get 10-15mins run time so double it for the 8ah but it will be heavier

      • Thank you ;)

  • Please note, some items, including the Pole Pruner are experiencing delays, new on sale date to be confirmed.

    • Only appears to be some states (mainly VIC)

      • How about blower and mower? I couldn't find these in the stock checker.

        • With the SpecialBuys Stock Checker

Products can be searched 1 day after appearing in store

  • Wondering between the mower and the Bunnings version, which may (?) have been lowered to match: https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-pxc-18v-300mm-brushless-la…

    • +1

2x batteries and 37cm cutting, larger bag, its a no brainer to go with aldi unless for some reason you need to go for the lightest duty possible, e.g its for your senior parents but even then id go with the aldi and tell them to empty when it gets heavy

  • Has anyone got the 20V Stick Vac Skin? How does it perform? Seems to have sold out already in the stores around me.

    • +1

Stick Vac is solid, but with a old 4Ah/new 8Ah, it's heavy af.

  • I am surprised that Bunnings hasn't come to the party with the pole pruner and mower - they usually price match

    • +1

My local Aldi had 8 mowers available, gone in 60 seconds. 590 X 8 = 4720 potentially lost mower sales, plus any value added, for Bunnings. The economics obviously just didn't add up for Bunnings.
Maybe this signals a change in Bunnings threat perception and tactics?

      • +1

I think the theory was to 'always' make it a better or equal deal at Bunnings and eventually knock out the competition. Long game style
They did do the smaller items: tyre inflator etc. Possibly just a classic Aussie stuff up.

    • -1

XU1 pole pruner/hedger combo with a battery and charger has been discounted to 149

      • I think that is just some 10% off promo - the Aldi one is $99.99. Bunnings usually price match

        • Kit vs skin only. Aldi with battery and charger works out to the same price

            • @King Tightarse: Correct. Aldi works out to the same 99.99+49.99

              Which is better though?

              • @ajbee: I would go with Ozito - 5 year guarantee with ease of return

                • @King Tightarse: Didnt see any Ozito trimmer + pruner kit on Bunnings. Just the pruner skin is $200 vs this one being a combo kit at $148

                  • +1

@ajbee: Yes, I would wait if possible. They have both been $100 before. If you need it right now go with Aldi. XU1 quality is not good

                    • +1

@King Tightarse: I do need one soon enough. Problem is I am into 2 ecosystems with an XU1 drill kit and Ozito grass trimmer+blower kit. Wouldnt want to get into a 3rd one with Aldi

                      • @ajbee: Sell the XU1.
Get the Ozito. They had the impact driver+ drill + batteries for $99 a couple of weeks ago when I was there.
                        Link

                        It has:
                        18V Compact Drill Driver
                        18V Impact Driver
2.5Ah Battery & Compact Fast Charger Included

  • So is Bunnings price matching aldi?
    Is this it?

Is the recommendation still to buy the aldi mower?

    • That's woeful.. last time they price matched to the 370mm 36v telescopic mower below, which I happen to be selling brand new if anyone wants it for the previous promotionaI price? Must be in Sydney for pick up, $248 and will come with the receipt for warranty purposes. If no takers I'll be returning to my local Bunnings.

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-pxc-36v-2-x-18v-370mm-cord…

      • Try posting it on Classifieds. Then prepare to get spammed. 😅

  • Is it out in VIC Aldi's yet?

    • It's out everywhere, but check the catalogue. Experiencing delays.

    • +1

If you’re still reading this. It just became available in VIC today.

  • anyone tried the misting fan? Thought it might go ok when camping
