The camera on this is supposed to be top notch

      Battery is shocking though.

Currently on 7 Pro. Compared to the Pixel 5 and Nexus 6P before this, can confirm battery is crap.

        • Moved from 7 Pro to 8 Pro - battery is much better. In fact, 8 Pro feels like the first one in a while that's actually a flagship.

Tbh the 8a might be the "budget" (mid range) phone of the year if the price stays reasonable.

        • On 7 and it was def crap until i moved the apps using a lot of it off optimised.. If you adjust the apps in the battery usage section it ends up being fine… Not amazing but good

      • +1

It could be bigger, but I also easily get at least 5-6 hours screen on time out of a full charge. Came from a Poco X3 so I thought it would be an issue, but its been great. Highly recommend this phone.

  • Thanks OP, when you say not for audiophiles, do you think an average Joe like myself (with a little taste, of course) would notice the difference?

Side note you my last JBL sound bar lasted 3 years before failing… Not as long as it should have, given my quality plasma (720p) is still amazing 15 years later.

It's okay. After having this and a ~$300 Sony soundbar with a dedicated sub, the Sony is miles ahead.
If it's this or just sticking with TV speakers though, it would be $100 well spent.

  • Newby question here, can one claim Coles Master Card price protection using JB perks discount?

    • Tricky one as if you go to JB website it shows full price unless you have perks.

  • How is Pixel 7a is compared to 7. Missed out on cheap Pixel 7 last time and i am wondering should i buy this or wait for another cheap deal for Pixel 7.

    • +3

Funnily enough, the general consensus is that the Pixel 7a has better cameras than the Pixel 7. In a blind smartphone camera test, the Pixel 7a was voted the best smartphone for taking photos (the video is on the MKBHD Youtube Channel). 7a also has a slightly bigger battery and but they have generally equal battery life. 7a will get one more year of software updates because it was released a year later. The Pixel 7 has a glass back while the 7a has a plastic one. Pixel 7 also has better dust and water protection and a slightly bigger and brighter screen, faster wireless charging and slightly better videos and better performance in low light settings.

      • I thought they were basically the same phone, just the a was inferior in a few aspects to keep costs down? The teat you’re referring to never included the 7 fwiw. It included the Google folding phone and the 8. It would be interesting though if MKBhD did include older generation models like the 7. But I guess that would take a lot more work.

  • Crap, any way to get this without perks? Is it via a code? Been holding out for this!

    • Nope, unless you’ve got a mate that has joined JB
You’ve to log in to get the price, no code’s required

      • Yeah, got my mobile number banned in the past… may have been added to a few too many accounts at one point :P

Time to grab the wife or kids haha.

        • I’m in the same boat as you lol, I can access my account but any orders that I placed will be flagged by their verification system

          • +1

@BargainsGrabber: Removed my mobile number, added kids. Signed up to perks. Removed his number, put mine back on. Also got a $10 welcome voucher again lol. Brought it down to $514.

          • @BargainsGrabber: I had orders flagged but had different numbers on each account so not sure what flagged it.

      Isn't it free to join?

      • +1

Its free, their website has a Join Perks link to click on.

    • As far as I can tell it's not via code. It looks like it checks if you're signed in and opted in for Perks as it's online only. Probably worth making an account and signing up to see if you have access to the deal anyway.

i currently have a pixel 4a 5g, had dirt and dust under the camera lenses. I think this would be a good upgrade, only downside i see is not headphone jack

    • +1

Exactly the same, the seal around the camera lens has weakened over the last month or so and stray hairs and crap getting in. Looks like a good time to upgrade.

    • My 5 just keeps plugging away. And free storage for photos makes it hard to upgrade.

      • i'm sure mine will keep going, but the photos don't look that great.

      • How do you get free storage for photos? I assume that's not available anymore.

        • Back in the day Google ran a deal on the Pixel 5 where you got free storage for photos taken on Pixel 5, at standard quality only.

    • I used to see that as a downside too. After buying a couple of cheap but excellent quality USB dongle DACs I much prefer that we now have a choice and don't have to restrict our phone purchases to phones that have a decent built in DAC.

  • Anyone else having trouble logging in to see the sales?

    • Yes, after signing in, the perks deal page refreshes back to the login page.

  • FYI this phone has "Guaranteed Android version updates until at least:" May 2026 and "Guaranteed security updates until at least:" May 2028. So 4 years and 3 months of security updates left.

Not bad but Pixel 8 has both version and security updates until October 2030.

6a still going strong but I'll pull the trigger when it gets cheaper than this.

    • Is this port in deal new too.

    • Is what new, the deal or the phone?
      The deal, yes.
      The phone, less yes.

Released 9 months ago, and not the highest model number (that would belong to the Pixel 8 line)

  • Is Pixel 7a equal to or better than the Samsung A54? I know 7a has wireless charging, but the A54 has a bigger battery.

    • 7a has the better camera pretty easily, and you're right about the smaller battery but otherwise I think its just personal preference.
I'm a stock android fan and can't stand Samsung One UI, so I picked the 7a.

  • Does this deal only last for 24hrs, or will it be available for longer?

  • Any case recommendations for the 7a? I've used Spigen previously but found they aren't what they used to be. Considering an OtterBox. I can be clumsy at times.

    • +1

I've only ever used Tech21, can't fault them.

Can this be price beaten at officeworks?

  • +2

    Bought one, still regretting it.

    • +1

      care to share your experience?

    • Yeah. I've read a lot problems about the 7a.

  • Anybody getting Order cancelled when ordering the Pixel 7a?
I used 2 gift cards and tried 2 different Laptops but same issue.

    • +1

Worked for me, just got the tracking number.

      • +1

I got payment verification failed 3 times.
Raised it to their customer support.
Hoping they honour the original price

  • Still can't use Ultimate GC for online purchase?

  • Why Google Store never have promotion like this? Personal would prefer buy directly from Google base on warranty claim experience

    • +1

Strongly recommend the opposite. Google support are fine if things go well. If they go badly and you need to do a credit card charge back, you'll basically be nuking your Google account.

  • Signed up for perks, bought one. Thanks op

  • DAMN IT….just missed it.
