50x Hayfever Relief Lorastyne 10mg Pharmacy Action + Bonus (Short Dated) 24x Ibuprofen $9.39 Delivered @ PharmacySavings

200

Hi Ozbargainers,

As many of your would be aware I'm now a magnet for suppliers looking to clear shorter dated product, honestly I'm still not sure if the economics of this stack up from my end as it leads to a much lower average basket value, with pretty much the same fixed costs.

So quite the opposite of the current Coles and Woolies bonanza (where wholesale prices go up, then in circumstances where a margin is a percentage of cost price, their earnings per sale also go up), the opposite is true when I help suppliers clear short dated product. Basket value goes down, margin in dollars (or more likely cents for Ozb deals) per sale goes down - while postage, transaction fees, labour costs etc remain the same and product loss (through disposal of expired product) goes through the roof. So the supplier wins as their stock is cleared, I earn less per sale and Ozbargainers get dealt more shorter dated stock - Is this a win?

Based on my current P&L's I think buying discounted product which is near end of life from suppliers, may not be helping run a sustainable business.

There are lots of smart people out there in Ozbargania, it would be interesting for others to chime in on this.

Anyway, theoretical discussions aside, tonight I've assembled the very last of the short dated ibuprofen in stock and am basically giving it away with Lorastyne 50's of which I have several hundred boxes in stock (and a supplier asking me to take on more stock):

  • Sorry to hear your going through such contemplation.

Question, are you considering stocking Buscopan alternatives or hyloforte eyedrop alternatives?

I couldn't see any on your site, but I am a blind idiot

    • +1

Thanks for the comment, I am getting more and more requests for Buscopan, last time I checked there wasn't a generic and the price was fairly high, I'll have another look.

      • Ooo would be great! The other half takes it when the blood moon rises and reckons it's a life saver!
