Hi all, 11th gen now coming up to the refurb market. This model does not have any embedded windows license in the bios hence we did not include any os with it but you can always figure something out. Gigabyte does have a low profile rtx 4060 but it might be too long for this SFF.

Tough sell these days vs the plethora of good cheap mini PC's from beelink etc

    • +18

I think for the price range, it would beat a lot in the same bracket.

    • I am rather clueless when it comes to computers and stuff, but what would you recommend over this one, for similar price? TIA

      • +3

Depends what you want, if it’s office and very basic gaming, N100/N95 mini pc, anything more you need to look at higher specs, if you want to add extras like mentioned below, pick this type of pc.

Just remember if you go for say Kamrui like mini pc’s make sure you format the ssd/M.2 drives as they have been know to come with spyware/malware etc.

      • +2

        Beelink SER5. Paid $492 for mine with 16GB + 1TB

Biggest benefit of paying more is better GPU that you can do more gaming with

        https://www.notebookcheck.net/Ryzen-5-5560U-performance-debu…

Personally I thought the cons were a bit nitpicky considering the price but whatever

If you don't need that much grunt, the N100 can be had for 1/2 the price. Check AliExpress too

        • Do you have to do a complete wipe of these? And reinstall Windows and everything?

          • +2

@plowking8: If you trust third parties with your banking, crypto etc, no you dont. But you may as well leave your front door wide open at nights too.

          • @plowking8: Dunno, I only accidentally booted Windows because forgot to put my USB with Ventoy in it.

It didn't seem offensive when it booted up

        • You could get a used graphics card for the Thinkstation that is faster than the RX Vega 6 iGPU in that.
          e.g. I just got a Nvidia k620 for <$30 from un-tech, for the next family retro lan-party.

      • +1

Yep, absolutely. I wouldn't trust those Beelink/Minisforum things with my data. For one thing, unlike the Beelink, these come with Genuine Windows and a genuine TPM; unlike the broken fTPM in the Beelinks. These come from a known trusted supply chain, and they're validated, they get firmware updates, suport, and so on.. They also have expandability; you can add NICs, graphics, HBAs, etc.

If you really need the small form factor, pick a Mini PC.

Otherwise youre often missing out on heaps of benefits. Eg. PCIe slot, better driver support, more upgrade options, less likelihood of throttled performance (due to power or thermals).

I love all sorts of computers, but SBCs, Mini PCs, SFF and full size PCs all have their place with their own strength and weaknesses.

    • +2

The upside of something like the Lenovo is that you'll have more than a snowball's chance in hell of BIOS updates. There was a real doozy of a security vulnerability uncovered last year that I suspect most bargain basement machines will get patches for.

      https://arstechnica.com/security/2023/12/just-about-every-wi…

      • Remote attacks work by first exploiting an unpatched vulnerability in a browser, media player, or other app and using the administrative control gained to replace the legitimate logo image processed early in the boot process with an identical-looking one that exploits a parser flaw. The other way is to gain brief access to a vulnerable device while it’s unlocked and replace the legitimate image file with a malicious one.

Interesting exploit, but to do it they first need administrator access to your system, so your system is already compromised.

        • +1

They get admin access if your login account has admin permissions. Which is the vast majority of the time unless you're running a locked down corporate machine.

The Windows login account you create on first setup is an admin account. To get around this, you need to manually create another account with standard permissions, then always log in to that second account.

          Almost nobody does this.

          • -1

@rumblytangara: And they still need physical access to your machine, which means it's already compromised.

            • +1

@ldd-mn: You've misread the vulnerability. This can be remotely exploited via existing flaws in any other program that is run on the machine- it does not rely on physical access.

Hi OP, do you have something similar in smaller (mini/micro) form factor?

Similar to this deal but with more powerful/newer CPU?

  • +3

    figure something out

    😏

  • -3

Do remember that 11th gen desktop is a dumpster fire with crazy high power usage.

  • No HDMI on this one. Do these PCs often not have HDMI out?

  • Where does it say 380 watt psu

  • If tiny form factor matters more get the N100 (I use it as an emulation console with Batocera), otherwise these are fine for general use.

  • +1

very good for the form factor… we're not talking i7 8th gen, so good

  • +1

wait what? So the 4060 LP is the SFF LP upgrade we've been all waiting for since 1650??

    • -1

You can buy an entire new gaming machine with a 4060 for $748 - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/827718

This SFF machine with a low profile 4060 is slower, and will cost significantly more.

If you want to do gaming, SFF machines are a terrible choice.

    • Price wise, it's a terrible option. It's more than double the price of the 1050ti and 1650 lp MSRP.

  • -5

    No USB-C port? pass.

    • +1

The specs above clearly say it has usbC (its the very first port listed) and the picture of the front even shows it.

This seems like a better deal than a refurb.

    • +2

Umm…not really. Even though i5-11600 is one generation older than i5-12450H, i5-11600 is a desktop CPU and its PC Mark is higher than i5-12450H's. Not only that, P350 has a PCI-e x16 slot (it actually seems to have TWO PCI-e x16 slots, but one is configured to be x4 lanes) and you can actually fit in a GPU like RX 6400 LP and turn the system into a lite gaming machine.

Plus, Lenovo P350 seems to have two M.2 on-board slots (one is Gen 4 and the other is Gen 3, but that's expected) and it seems like I could run them in RAID.

  • Would this be able to accommodate a GTX 1650 LP or RTX A2000 GPU? I don't play a lot of games however I have the 1650 LP running on OP 9020 SFF and need to replace the machine as it is making noises at intervals. Unable to determine from the pictures if the GPU can fit in the P350.

    • +2

Hi yes it fits a RTX A2000, it should also fit a 1650 depends on the size.

      • I've been looking right into this and cant find the right info. Gigabyte gtx 1650 is about 167mm, similar to the RTX A2000. But cant find stock. The Asus gtx 1650 is about 182mm and there is stock. You couldnt confirm if the 182mm will fit? I have seen people cut the chassis on dell sff not sure if thats possible. Any advice would be appreciated!

  • This model does not have any embedded windows license in the bios

    Why not?

    • It's unbranded custom built.

      • +2

How can a Lenovo ThinkStation P350 be unbranded?

        • Oh true - I thought it was a custom box. It should have a BIOS license.

  • +3

This is unreal value imo as the i5-11600 CPU seems to perform roughly in-line with the ever-popular Ryzen 5 5600.

  • Nice deal

  • Has anyone purchased this yet?

Does it still have a digital license attached to it?

On the other hand, I know I could transfer a digital license across to it with a microsoft account, but I'm not sure if it would survive reinstall. I don't really want to use a microsoft account with any spare PC.

    • They say no digital licence - there is some info on alternatives further up in this thread though

  • Can you put a standard cooler on these pcs for better temps?

    • +1

On a HP elitedesk SFF yes, but I had to remove a few electrolytic caps from the board for it to fit. Fortunately there were some unpopulated spots for the same caps nearby wired in parallel so I could just move them.
