Netflix Turkey Membership Cancelled on 24/02/2024 - Are You Also Affected? Vote on Poll

Hi all, a lot of people in the netflix turkey thread is saying their membership has been cancelled but did not specific the payment type.

I am trying to determine what the criteria of membership cancellation is, please vote only if you are on Netflix Turkey

Error if your membership is cancelled

Sorry this account is no longer active. Please sign up again or sign in to a different account.”

EDIT: Official "story" provided by netflix:

As per checking To protect members against unauthorized charges, we sometimes cancel accounts that show signs of unusual activity. It looks like your account was canceled for this reason.

They will even recommend you dispute charge via your card company to get a refund as they did not provide you with the service you paid for. So everyone go and get your money back and then buy Turkey Gift Cards ahaha Personally I recommend turgame 200TL gift cards if you order after 5pm they will arrive pretty fast.

@lonewolf: NordVPN: 100% Cashback for New VPN Plan Customers @ Cashrewards

ps. Getflix never worked for me in the past, couldn't make sense of it or was missing something.
Stuffed around with it in 2021, useless. Couldn't save DNS and they didn't support Netflix outside USA.

We apologize for the inconvenience. Netflix implemented a change affecting all VPN companies as well as our Smart DNS network. Currently Netflix is providing access to global content for people accessing it from these networks. Our network team is already working on a solution.
We will keep you updated once we have further information on this case.
Also, we don't support any other Netflix regions aside from US.

I've signed up to India to give it a go. Before I start starting watching can someone answer these questions?:

    1) You can watch on mobile device without connected to VPN and not be booted off?
    2) If you watching on TV device you need VPN if not you will be booted off?
    3) If you watching on multiple TVs in one household they all need to go through the same VPN? And only way to do this is a VPN profile in router?
    4) Can you set VPN profile on each media device like google tv or fire stick and then watch or that is classified as pw sharing and can be booted off?
    5) is there a way to change the end user tv device profile to say its a mobile device?

    • +1

You've wasted your money. You'll get booted in a few days

      • I think most people enjoy the challenge, I'd personally put that money towards the Stremio+Torrentio+Debrid setup and get on with your life. Not worth spending so much time on it, including bank chargebacks and sitting on hold lol.

      • I happen to be travelling soon coincidentally to India. So will only use on mobile travelling. When I come back will try on TV and if they boot me then so be it.

Since the crackdown my resolution to not give any money to Netflix is getting a daily beating at home with the high command calling me names like cheap etc. Little she knows that these names are strengthening my resolution and I wear it pride as a badge of honour. I have doubts however about the longevity of this stand especially if this starts impacting on 'special cuddles'.

    • +4

No Netflix and chill for you, 🤣

    • +6

Just set up Stremio+Torrentio+Debrid and tell high command that the app name has changed from Netflix to Stremio.

      • +1

+1, it's very nicely integrated solution, content featured on all platforms too, including new releases that would otherwise be rent/buy only.

It's certainly worth testing, even keeps track of episodes watched and weekly releases, skip credits, synopsis and IMDb ratings. Works great.

        • +1

i was skeptical at first but holyyyyyyy ******* how smooth and seamless is it? far out.
finally, something to actually make my 1000/50 connection SWEAT haha.

          • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Yeah I'm impressed.. and 100/20 runs it fine.

            • +4

@G-rig: its funny - the whole time with netflix i used to scroll through and think, geez idk hey the library aint that great. then probalby end up watching seinfeld again anyway.

now with stremio, SOOOOO many more options..and i end up watching seinfeld anyway.

              • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Ha, yeah can't go wrong with Seinfeld, great to turn on anytime when you want something brainless, even if I've seen them 100 times each.

On a similar note, the latest season of Curb is on Stremio (s12), with a new one every week.

End up watching junk on Netflix most of the time, now we can think about what we actually want to watch and then search (looks for all services as configured), much better. Still comes up with suggestions anyway.

        • yo you get skip credits? on which player? i dont get it on external player

          • @Roe Jogan: CCwGoogleTV, comes up after a while. Pretty cool was watching loudermilk. Also Halo looks superb as well as the audio quality ;)

            • @G-rig: im using android tv (vodaphone box)

              • @Roe Jogan: True, just go through all the Stremio settings again, I couldn't see it In the mobile version (android) but will check the other device tonight. Btw it doesn't come up straight away.

                • @G-rig: Threadjack. Which way is the stremio+tagliatellio+other thing post instructions? Thought it was here but too many comments ffs :(

                    • +1

                      @G-rig: Thanks, G-unit

                      • @txb: Another good free add-on that should probably be mentioned with the Streamio / Debrid setup is Trackt, this helps keep track of shows watched, and to help continue where you left off. (It may already be mentioned in the comments of the setup post, but just in case)

                        • @splicer: Seems to do that already (following the reddit guide), perhaps it's the CyberFlix Catalogue add-on or just Stremio.
Doesn't hurt looking at the add-ons though.

                    • @G-rig: Does this setup work for a TV? Is there an app that can be installed on a Samsung TV?

                      • @tik tok: Should do - all you need to install from the Google Play is Stremio.
Best/easiest to set it all up on PC first

      • +1

I just tested and was fine with just those two. Best always use a VPN for privacy purposes and away from your ISP logs.

Real Debrid I believe will have more on offer and will always be decent speed as the stream already exists there. It's is also more secure/private being a paid service.

        • +1

Just set it all up, you won't be disappointed.
Can trial for a month 4 euros.

          • @bounty hunter: Used disposable card from revolut

            • +1

@Kooratz: I may try that next time. most merchants don't accept it anyway but worth a go.
Wise usually better I've heard (but don't have one)
It could still be tied to your account though, it just can't be charged to again.
Wonder if there are any supermarket debit cards..
Depends how paranoid you are I guess.

    Missed this post.

Added one more vote to the "not cancelled, paying with GC's" :)

    • +1

out of interest how long have you been paying with GC's for netflix & assume you aren't using a VPN?

      • +2

        Since December 2020

Nope, VPN only needed for adding gcs to account

  • rolled over my GC subscription for another 2 months…hope it stays that way…

  • an update on this, every large file 90gb starts playing in less than 10 secs now on desktop and tv, on tv the key is to use external player, the internal player takes 40 seconds to start playing, also the netflix unit that you use plays a role on how fast it starts playing.

    • Which external player, I noticed you set Kodi to play it?

The default seems fine on Google TV, I can live with 5-10s considering :).

  • Anybody having issues with Stremio buffering a lot lately? First time since setting up that I've come across this issue.

    • depends on the content, happens now and again on the odd movie (old ones that aren't common sometimes). Usually pretty seamless, just try another stream

    • With or without RD source?
Using RD and haven't noticed any issue

      • I'm using the RD integration (as per reddit thread setup).
It's just the occasional movie, there are some old ones but usually fine.

        • Dunno.
My only 'complaint' with that setup is on my google Chrome (W google tv) the initial load time when selecting a show. That delay is the only thing that's adding friction to the setup.

          • @SBOB: 10s isn't too much mate, considering what it's doing. You couldn't think of a show (from any service) and go and download it manually in that time. Some people watch 5h of telly a night, what's 10s. Plus you are getting access to everything not just Netflix content. Just have to chill ;).
Takes the same time to load on phone and PC anyway I think.

            • @G-rig: I've had delay load times well over 10s. Probably around the 30s mark is on par.

              • @SBOB: Could just be the title perhaps, I just chose a different stream if that happens. I didn't think seeders matter on cache streaming from their server, but more seems better you'd think.

Did you change these settings on Google TV?

                Go to Stremio
settings>Playback> Frame rate matching and select Disabled,

settings > server > torrent profile and set it up to Ultra-fast

                • @G-rig: yeah both those settings applied.

              • -1

@SBOB: Yuck. I've sailed every sea over the last 35 years… and this delay makes me completely ignore it as a valid option. All firestick, dodgybox, IP/PPV, KODI options have been horrendous IMO. Lucky dip of frustration.
I had paid Disney, Paramount, HBO, Netflix, Stan… the lot. But their prices & behaviour are turd, cancelled. But 10-30 second delays are not an option.

                • @Ulysses31: The only way to get the speeds you're after is hosting the content yourself and using something like Sonarr/Radarr to automate.

                • @Ulysses31: Something is wrong with your setup. I have always experienced no more than 5s delay

                  • +1

@clover: Not sure there's much 'setup' there is when it comes to stremio and google tv. It's replicated plugins from initial PC setup, and then
                    -Frame rate matching disabled
                    -Torrent profile ultrafast

Done..if there's some other recommendations you think missing then feel free to list them?

                  • @clover: maybe he hasn't paid for Real Debrid

                    • @Irishness: With RD and using "RD+" links.

Dunno, I'd be impressed if 4k links queue up and start within 5s on a CCwGTV, but it's definitely longer for that than me.

                      • @SBOB: CCwGTV isn't the fastest device I've also noticed that if the wifi signal it's getting isn't strong it'll really tail off, I'd never had a problem before & it was in a cable tidy box but moved it so it gets a better signal & noticed an immediate improvement. I also suspect if it's near full capacity it's slower so best to clear cache & delete unused apps

                        • @Irishness: Didn't experience much buffering when I first set up Stremio but last 2 weeks it's been bad. Read your message about wifi strength and last night moved my mesh satellite closer to the router and I was able to watch. Good times again :)

                      • @SBOB: I don't think it's ever been less than 5s, maybe on PC with a good connection. Up to 10s is pretty normal and acceptable. It would take longer or go and look for a manually downloaded (then the time waiting and copying /syncing to whichever player).

Agree, who knows if they have paid for RD and or configured properly.

                • +2

@Ulysses31: It's a pretty slick setup with CCwGTV - 5s to 10s is acceptable to me, unless you have ADHD and just start something, flicking around after 2min changing to something else, start another one up. 5 Mississippi's mabe a touch more.

I just purchased a gift card from Turgame to add to my existing Netflix Turkey account but I'm getting (An error occurred during gift redemption - please try again later.) Never happened before..

    • +2

from memory you need to use the direct link for GC redemption with turkey in the link address and I think that requires turkey VPN on, probably worth reading I Smell Pennies guide on here

must admit I've been interested to see what happens now we are getting to a month after everyone got culled

      • That's what I did and it accepted the gift card

      • Just tried again this time with a G2A gift card and same result. Submitted codes by usual Surfshark Turkey VPN and same result. I think they are catching on to gift card users.

        • How you know that, dodgy gift cards not working?
They will just cancel those too soon, hardly anyone actually gets them as a gift lol.

        • Did it ended up working with you? I tried using incognito without VPN and then go to netflix.com/youraccount and then redeem giftcards and it works. Initially I had the same issue with you with VPN connected to Turkey.

    • Gift card from G2A worked for me, and I was able to reactivate my plan. However I can't watch without using a VPN

      • +2

Neither are ideal and extra effort. The people you sharing with would have to use VPN as well.

Mind you I didn't mind turning it on for HBO (Max), check out that (about $70/y via Brazil I think).

        • I installed NordVPN on my CCwGTV and it works, takes a bit longer to buffer but I still get 4k DV no issues. I've only activated for a month so I'll see how it goes, if it's too much effort I'll go back to the high seas.

        • HBO was the first time I was impressed with the catalogue. Finally, it felt completely different & fresh. And high-end content was on there straight-away. But their app was poo, constantly logging me out, and I had to side-load it to each device.

          • @Ulysses31: Yeah that's true, was a bit buggy, not offered in the okay store for Australia for a start, so that was to be expected.

Nice having some different content anyway.

          • @Ulysses31: Ps. Tokyo Vice, Warrior & the white lotus are some standout shows if you haven't seen them. Watching Shogun now..

            • +1

@G-rig: Got Tokyo Vice sitting there. ALL over Shogun. Absolutely our cup o' tea!

  • +3

My Netflix is now working after the 30 (28?) day geo-lock using gift cards as the payment method. @CodeXD

    • So that means the geolock disappears after a month and you don't need a VPN?

      • +1

Yep, geo-lock is now gone and VPN no longer required.

        • Amazing! I just re-subscribed and I'm geolocked.

        • How do you know? Won't they be able to see you at watching from a different country again, or you think they won't bother monitoring after the first month?

    • +3

Thanks for the tag! I'm the same, no more lock

      • You guys having any issue purchasing more gift cards as the guy above ?

I am the same as you lads, using gift cards and my account is unlocked and I am paid till end of May.

        • +1

You guys having any issue purchasing more gift cards as the guy above ?

          Sounds like skill issue lol

EDIT: I just bought a 200TL netflix gift card and added it to my Turkey netflix account, no issues at all. Didn't even need to VPN. I redeemed it on https://www.netflix.com/au/redeem and netflix accepted it. So yeah they definitely did something wrong on their side.

          • @CodeXD: Only issue i can see is if you try to set your tv as the main household it will not allow you. It says can not be set from this country.

            • +2

@GerrardLFC: I've never been asked to set household on my turkey netflix account.

FYI this G2A seller is selling 200TL netflix gift card for 6.19 USD (+0.07 surcharge) ended up being $9.62 AUD on my 28D credit card. Which is pretty much how much 200TL is in AUD so highly recommend. I just bought and activated it.

              • +1

                @CodeXD: I'm off the geo-lock too!

Interestingly I'm only at 27 days

          • @CodeXD: I bought the Turkey gift card from G2A and tried to redeem it via your link and it says code entered is not valid
Do I need to activate my VPN to Turkey for it to work?

            • @BargainsGrabber: I did not need to activate VPN to Turkey for it to work, but when I originally did it, my netflix account was in Limbo (because netflix cancelled the membership) where it is already set up in Turkey but didn't have an active subscription.

If you currently do not have an active Turkey netflix subscription I don't think it will work as it will try to validate the turkey gift card against au gift cards.

You can also try from this link

              https://www.netflix.com/YourAccount

and then click on Redeem gift card or promo code (which should take you to the same link but means you are already logged in)

Just a default marketing email. Click on "Unsubscribe" as useless unless you want to resubscribe to Turkey and be cancelled again. :-)

    • yep I've had a couple, I wonder if they deliberately cancelled subs, trying to convince people to pay $au, then after a month, they figured let the rest back in so we can at least get some $'s from them?

anyway all it has done in our household is to try out Stremio & Real Debrid. between that, D+ in turkey and Arr+Usenet setup there's no going back.

      • Nah it would just be automated and sent to the last subscription (email and currency) you were using I reckon.

Stremio going great, bought another 6 Months. Not sure how cheap it would be on too many devices. Works great and not limited to Netflix only which is a lot better to start with.

        • yeah maybe, but what got me thinking that way was the above comments about georestrictions being removed. previously I could only log into my account from Australia, it simply wouldn't accept my credentials when using an OS VPN. But now it lets me log in and wants to charge me in TL via Turkey (but 230tl/mth for 4k).

          But maybe they're not related

          • @M00Cow: Hmm true. Could try it but no doubt they'd just kick you off again, not worth worrying about them, VPNs and gift cards every month.

Like you said no need with Stremio now :)

  • +1

What I decided to do was just buy 75TL gift card and reactivated my account. This cost about $3.80 and gave me 2 weeks, was geo blocked so waited out the month and bought another 75TL and again have another 2 weeks and am now not geo blocked.

This works out well for me as I don’t watch Netflix much and can easily buy a gift card when there’s something that interests me

Will see if they ban me again.

    • so essentially pay 75TL to clear the geo block then buy giftcards & add monthly, normal service resumed for now

    • So how do you know not geo-locked? Works without VPN? They will be able to see you're streaming from Australia without the VPN on, so it's only a matter of time until they do an audit again, but you may be alright for a while.

      • Netflix aren't stupid they are well aware what's going on & how people circumvent their systems, I'd bet after multiple Turkey price increases they decided to have a big cull & then likely analyse how many users they lost versus signups to the users actual country, remember they have a record of device mac address etc. Also by taking away the simplicity of paying by card many won't bother with the hassle of the giftcard route & I'd bet Netflix would rather have the hardcore paying for their service somewhere (though many went stremio route) than lose them altogether. This also doesn't mean they can't tighten things further in the future but I suspect they'll wait and see but I suspect this isn't the end of it

        • Correct, giftcards and VPNs are only a band-aid solution (and an inconvenient workaround a best). Agree that they are aware and not stupid so will do a cull again and start blacklisting users.

If they weren't so greedy they should be doing a price drop - may entice some users back. Anyway I'm not interested in it, Stremio+RD is much better and haven't looked back. Much more variety and better quality.

  • They’ve knocked me off as well now - resubbed with Turkish gift cards but can only watch with VPN on. Netflix doesn’t really offer enough to be worth this hassle. Will let it run its course then hit the high seas once gift card runs out
