Welcome to the ultimate guide of Netflix subscriptions (Turkey Edition)

Netflix has once again rolled out a 2nd price hike for Türkiye within 4 months. Please see the statistics section below for an interesting read. Luckily, Netflix's Password Sharing restrictions still do not apply to Türkiye.

This guide is the latest updated guide I've made so far. There are 2 complete methods to sign up. Please show some love and any comments, concerns, suggestions or feedback are welcome :)

  • Turkey is no longer the cheapest country for a Netflix subscription on all tiers, after they keep increasing prices every few months.
    • However, obtaining a Turkey-based Netflix Gift Card is extremely easy and effortless, making it one of the easiest and therefore cheapest country to sign up with.
  • Pakistan is the cheapest country for all Netflix plans, however, obtaining a Pakistan-based Netflix Gift Card to sign up is almost impossible. Egypt is the next cheapest, but impossible to sign up for the same reason. If you have a bank card locally from these countries, feel free to sign up directly otherwise.

Please see @Scrooge McDeal's post for Netflix Kenya, which is slightly cheaper than Netflix Turkey. However, note that some members have had their memberships cancelled and payments refunded.

Instructions – Method #1 (Using Turkey Netflix Gift Cards)

Please read the following instructions carefully. Use this method if you want Netflix to charge your Australian debit/credit card each month OR you would like to use Turkey Netflix Gift Cards moving forward.

Part 1 - Ensure you have your Australian mobile number and debit/credit card saved in your account

Complete either steps (a) or (b), depending on your current situation, BEFORE moving to Part 2

a. If you currently have an Australian Netflix subscription:

  1. Make sure your Australian mobile number is saved and verified in your account. See this screenshot

  2. Make sure your current or new debit/credit card is saved and verified in your account. If your payment method is PayPal, remove this immediately and replace it will a debit/credit card.

  3. Once you’ve triple checked your mobile is added and verified, simply cancel your subscription and wait until the end of the renewal period (i.e. keep watching until the sub expires. Don’t let your sub go to waste since you’ve already paid for it). Once your subscription has expired, go to Part 2 or Part 3

b. If you DO NOT have a current Australian subscription:

  1. Sign up and subscribe to any Australian Netflix plan (preferably the lowest cost basic plan - don’t worry, you’ll get your money back). Do not use PayPal to sign up, it must be a debit/credit card.

  2. Once you’ve signed up, make sure your Australian mobile number is saved and verified in your account. See this screenshot

  3. Make sure your current or new debit/credit card is saved and verified in your account.

  4. Once you’ve triple checked your mobile is added and verified, go to Netflix Live Chat and tell them you “would like a full refund since you’ve changed your mind” - they usually don’t ask why but if they do make up some random excuse like “my sibling just signed up” or “you don’t want it anymore” etc. This should be a very fast step and take you only several minutes. The account cancellation will be effective immediately and the refund will arrive in a few hours or days

  5. Once your subscription has expired (should be immediate as you’ve cancelled it for a refund through live chat), go to Part 2

Part 2 - Signing up via Netflix Turkey

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before signing up to this deal (i.e. when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership)

  1. Purchase a Turkey Netflix Gift Card (any value is fine, even if it's not enough to cover the full month)

Note: Choose a reputable seller and make an account so you have a record of the purchases if anything goes wrong. I recommend Turgame (I've bought Turkey Apple GC's from there and they have fast delivery (at night time AEST), they charge the same price as the gift card value and the payment gateway fee is very low) or g2a

  2. Once you’ve received your gift card, it’s time to redeem your gift card and sign up to Netflix Turkey at the same time. Make sure from Part 1 that you have not logged out. You must stay logged in to your Australian account. If you’ve logged out, please log back in now with VPN turned off (Logging into your Australian account with a VPN on gives an error)

  3. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/ (recommended, paid)
    Urban VPN: https://www.urban-vpn.com/ (recommended, free)
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/ (recommended, free)
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs where possible

Possible Problem 1: If you use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, sometimes it defaults to random serves and therefore random cities of Turkey that will give you the wrong pricing (ideally, you want Istanbul). In this case, keep turning off and on the VPN until it switches to a different server/location. Confirm the location by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/. If this fails, change your VPN provider.

  4. With VPN on, open a new tab and go to the following Netflix site to redeem your gift card See this screenshot:

    https://www.netflix.com/tr-en/redeem

Possible Problem: On the plan selection page, the currency is not in Turkish Lira
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed

Possible Problem: When redeeming the Turkey Netflix Gift Card, it gives an error (code invalid, etc)
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed. If after several VPNs and this issue still occurs, try to reach out to your place of purchase due to them possibly issuing you an incorrect code

  5. Follow the prompts of the sign up process. This screenshot will show the first page after applying the gift card. Click "Next" to land on this page. Choose the plan you want, then click "Next" to land on the payment page in step 6

  6. Proceed by choosing a backup payment method. Be careful with this step and look at the screenshot!

    • If you did Part 1 instructions correctly then your payment method is already saved within your account - in this case, press "skip this step" at the bottom. On the next page, click "Next" (see screenshot). Now Netflix will want to confirm your details to make sure it is correct as per (this screenshot). Double check, tick the checkbox and start your membership!

    • Otherwise, if for some reason you haven't done Part 1 correctly or your debit/credit card has expired, you will have to add a new debit/credit card (see screenshot). Beward this may prompt you for a Turkey number verification (which I guarantee you don't have otherwise you would have done Part 2) - if this happens, please complete Part 1 again (see fix below)

Possible Problem: After entering your debit/credit card details, it asks for a Turkish mobile number
Possible Solution: Two causes for this. Cause (1): the problem is due to your VPN - Double check or change your VPN if needed, then go back to step 4. Cause (2): This is because you've entered a new debit/credit card. In this case, please click back on your browser and avoid entering a new card by pressing "skip this step" at the bottom. If this option does not appear, please restart Part 1 and ensure you save the card you wish to use as a backup payment.

Possible Problem: My debit/credit cards keep declining, and I'm unable to subscribe
Possible Solution: It's likely the problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed and restart the whole process. However, if VPN is not the problem, you can continue to subscribe without a backup payment method (i.e. start your subscription with just the Gift Card you bought), and then afterwards you can contact live chat and tell them you need to update your payment method by asking them to send a payment form popup (this will allow you to add a credit/debit card and save it into the account). If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one.

Note: If you bought a gift card that has a higher value than your selected plan, you’ve just used your gift card to pay for the first month, as well as partially for the second month. For the second month, Netflix will deduct the remaining of the gift card, and the remaining balance will come out of the credit/debit card you’ve inputted, and from thereon each month Netflix will keep charging your bank at those rates (be aware many banks like Commonwealth Bank have a small international transaction fee but this is only a few cents extra. Suncorp and Latitude Platinum have no international fees). Besides this, you should be saving >$100 AUD each year at least ($200 saving annually for the premium plan)

Instructions – Method #2 (Using your Australian Debit/Credit Card, Requires PingMe App for Turkey SMS Verification)

Please read the following instructions carefully. Use this method if you want Netflix to charge your Australian debit/credit card each month.

Part 1 - Ensure you have your Australian mobile number and debit/credit card saved in your account

Complete either steps (a) or (b), depending on your current situation

  5. Once your subscription has expired (should be immediate as you’ve cancelled it for a refund through live chat), go to Part 2 or Part 3

Part 2 - Signing up via Netflix Turkey

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before starting Part 2. It has completely ended when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership

  1. With VPN off, log into your Netflix account

  2. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/
    ExpressVPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs where possible

Possible Problem: You use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, but it defaults to one of the cities of Turkey that is not Istanbul.
Possible Solution: You want it to land in Istanbul, Turkey, so keep turning off and on the VPN until it lands in Istanbul. Confirm it’s Istanbul by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/

  3. Open Netflix on a new tab and proceed to Netflix to choose your plan:

    https://www.netflix.com/

  4. Proceed by adding your Australian credit/debit card as the backup payment method.

  5. Enter a Turkish phone number for the SMS verification process.

You can use the service from "PingMe" to obtain a Turkish number for Netflix's SMS verification purposes for just a few dollars. Download the PingMe app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play store. Create an account, and recharge with "coins" (credits). 1 coin ($2.99 AUD @ App Store) is enough for 1 Netflix Turkey SMS verification, but you can also buy 5 coins ($10 AUD @ App Store) for the price of 3 in case you need it in the future. After obtaining your coins, click on the "Verification" tab on the bottom of the app and follow this screenshot: select "Netflix" for the App/Website and "Turkey (+90)" for the Country/Region. Proceed as per the PingMe app and use that to validate the Netflix SMS verification process.

  6. You're done! Enjoy your membership :)

FAQ

Q: I just signed up and when I go to watch something I get the following error: "Your account can't be used in this location"
A: New sign-ups to Netflix Turkey is subject to a local restriction lockout. This lockout period will last approximately 28-31 days after signing up. During this lockout restriction, you can still watch most shows and movies, but you must use a Turkey VPN to do so (otherwise an error will pop up preventing you from watching anything). You can turn off the VPN after the show/movie has loaded for faster connection (may or may not work). After up to 31 days, this Turkey restriction will be removed and your Netflix account will behave no different to an Australian Netflix account. This minor hassle for a month is well worth the savings in the long term.

Q: I just got a "Payment Declined - Update Payment Method" email from Netflix. What do I do?
A: This issue is being reported by many people who have recently signed up to Netflix Turkey. They seem to only a few months after signing up, but once fixed, it usually does not happen again. There are two ways to get around this issue:

  1. You can contact Netflix Live Chat and enquire about the "Payment Declined" issue. Make sure you chat with your Turkey VPN activated. If they ask, say you're in Turkey for a holiday, or came up with another excuse. Tell them that your payment has declined and you'd like to add a new credit/debit card. They should (if not, request them to) be able to send a payment form popup directly on the chat so you can add your new payment details. If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one. Once the payment is accepted, the "Payment Declined" issue shouldn't occur ever again.

  2. Log into your Netflix account and update your payment method (Turkey phone number required). When you follow the prompts to update your payment method, Netflix will require a Turkish number. You can use the PingMe service to obtain a Turkey phone number for the purposes of this SMS verification. It will cost you a few dollars to buy credits for the purpose of receiving this SMS.

Q: My current card expired. How do I update to a new debit/credit card?
A: See the FAQ directly above this question. If you're sticking with the same credit card account (i.e. just getting a new/replacement card against the same account), you may not have to do anything. Your Netflix account may automatically update to your new card details, due to a connection provided by Mastercard, Visa, AMEX, etc. See here and here and here for more details, thanks to @NitroJolt.

Q: How do I add Netflix Turkey Gift Cards to my Netflix account?
A: Log in and go to account settings. Click on Redeem gift card or promo code and redeem your Gift Cards there. You should be able to do this without a VPN. If it doesn't work, try with a VPN.

Q: I get an error when redeeming gift cards?
A: This is a VPN problem. Most likely the VPN server has been flagged. Double check or change your VPN if needed. In that rare 1% chance it's not a VPN problem, you may have a troubled gift card.

Q: Will I need to turn VPN on everytime I watch Netflix?
A: No! You no longer need to have VPN on every time you watch a show or movie. VPN is only required for sign up. After sign up, use Netflix without a VPN and you will have access to the Australian Netflix library.

Q: I want to watch a show/move that is only available from another region or country. Can I do this?
A: If you want to watch a show or movie that is region locked to another country, you can do so by setting your VPN on your phone, laptop or PC to that particular country to watch it. Yes, you will need a VPN service for this, and most VPN providers should work.

Q: I got charged a different rate compared to the prices on this post. What happened?
A: Due to foreign exchange rates constantly fluctuating, prices will differ by several cents each month

Q: I have an existing Netflix subscription, can I use the same email?
A: Definitely!

Q: My bank blocked my payment, what do I do?
A: Some banks block 1st attempt and then text to confirm it's you. Once you reply, 2nd attempt may work. If after several attempts it does not work, just go through the Gift Card method and avoid the pain

Q: Is signing up to Netflix Turkey going to affect my Netflix library/catalogue?
A: After setting up this sub, you may or may not notice the Netflix catalogue may be weird with brand new shows, etc… It might not even change anything, but if it does change, your Netflix catalogue will adjust to what you’re watching and soon it will look like nothing ever happened

Q: GST/VAT and Tax related questions?
A: See here. Don't worry, there really isn't any tax you need to worry about.

      Inb4 someone says "dUpLiCaTe"

    • I got this issue when OLDUBIL virtual card was no longer supported for Netflix payments. Since then I have been using OLDUBIL "epin opportunities" option in the app to buy Netflix gift card and apply that credit to my netflix account. I found this is the only option as I have more than AUD100 worth of funds in my OLDUBIL account.

      • Hey bro what do you exactly mean by this?

Would love to do this myself as my obu account is useless atm any guide?

        • Hey Bro, In the OLDUBIL app you should see an option called "epin opportunities" once you click on it it will show you all available gift cards to buy, just select Netflix and purchase a card which you can redeem in your netflix account. If you still have trouble finding it I can post screenshots.

Can Turkish residents afford Netflix anymore?

    • +4

they keep hiking the price, and after fix term mortgage just end I cant even afford anymore. Back to FTA and sailing the highseas

    • +2

Was just thinking that. Even paying in AUD it's a hefty hike!

  • -4

Looks like you need to have the VPN everytime you need to watch something. Atleast in my case anyway.

    • +2

should region unlock after a month?

      • +2

Yea looks like it will. Thank you.

        • I've done this and can confirm region lock ends after a month and you can watch on any device without VPN after that.

          • @Mooshino: Do i top up with gift card now or later ?

            • +2

@Vancomycin 1000mg: You can buy a giftcard anytime and apply to account but it will still only deduct a monthly charge, I would be wary of putting too much credit on your account just in case Netflix decided to cancel account or something. I normally buy 100 or 200 TL giftcards via Turgame every month or so.

              • @running on empty: I use gift card to cover around 2-3 month ahead. When a month left top it up. Just in case it gets cancelled and lose lots of credit.

            • @Vancomycin 1000mg: I used "Method #2 (Using your Australian Debit/Credit Card, Requires PingMe App for Turkey SMS Verification)" so paid with Australian Credit Card.

Just cancel your Netflix. The sooner we all stop paying subscriptions the sooner we can hard reset the subscription hell they've created.

    Get Streamio in the meantime.

    • I joined the mass exodus as soon as prices went up. Life is so much better. Saving money and being more productive. Win win

      • +7

        Yep the "mass exodus" indeed

        https://www.cnbc.com/2024/01/23/netflix-nflx-earnings-q4-202…

Netflix now has 260.8 million paid subscribers, a new record for the service, it said when it reported quarterly results after the bell Tuesday.

        • Thanks for your input :)
There was a mass exodus to start with. Then people rejoined soon after.
So indeed we must agree with.

Netflix loses over 1.5 million subscriptions after price raise.

@Dealseeker21: I'm too lazy to find proper source and didn't give up Netflix to look up sources 🤣😂 but I remember there was a dip in subscriptions from the price increase. People stopped using it and then after a little while the subscriptions increased due to multiple people coming back after sharing with others. More subscriptions since reduction in password sharing. Your source was after the initial first price hike.
I believe we are both right that there was a mass exodus but then also increased subscriptions later on 👍

People are hopping on the Real Debrid train. I think it's a nice train with nice carriages great dinning cart with great menu.

    • +1

I keep seeing recommendations for Stremio + real debrid but tbh I hate the idea of paying for piracy. I already have a Sonarr + Radarr + Plex setup which is not costing me anything and also works on iOS devices. Is Stremio + real debrid better?

      • +2

My understanding is that Real Debrid just provides you with unlocked premium account access for most of the cloud storage platforms. So there's no 'downloading' or 'torrenting', it's not p2p just accessing a private file on a cloud storage service. User experience is close to an actual streaming service where once you've set it up, any device that can use stremio will just be able to search and stream instantly.

For those who have received ISP warnings for seeding torrets etc, this eliminates that. It's also an unlimited device, you just use a single Real Debrid key and any device with the stremio login can have unlimited streaming access anywhere. No download, storage, NAS, p2p, no plex server. It's basically just a straight forward streaming platform that requires no tech knowledge.

        • Fair enough. Although I've never received a single ISP warning letter in my 20 years of torrenting.

The rest of the features sound appealing but the biggest deal breaker for me is that it doesn't work on Apple TV which is my main streaming device.

It's good there are options out there though for those who want to cancel Netflix and go down this route.

      • Yep. Rule #1 don't pay for piracy.

  • I have redeemed Turkey gift card now I am not able to play any movies as it’s coming up with error as… Location you are trying to play is not allowed.

    Any suggestions

    • This is standard, you account is region locked for 30 days meaning you need to use VPN to turkey if you want to watch. After the 30 days the region lock is removed.

      • Thanks for the advice…. Just wondering what happened afterwards if I redeem again from Turkey Gift card does it lock again for 30 days? Is there any cleaner way where it won’t do the region lock with cheaper price and without VPN..

        • +1

          @shibu-thomas please read the T&Cs.

    • Watch through your VPN for a month. After a month has gone by, you'll be able to watch without VPN.

    • Omg, really? I did pay using giftcard because of oldibill thingy, now im good until september 2024..hopefully it wont happen to me..
But please keep update what happened with your service..
I hope you will find the light..

  • Just torrent, who watches Netflix daily anyway.

    • Popcorn Time is one of the best user friendly and has new movies but kinda limited library

  • The kicker is you need to jump through hoops to get the pricing when they first launched here but for 1/4 of the content

  • Go around the world but land in Turkey to watch Netflix

  • Nah not gonna put up with yet another hike. Back to the high seas.

  • Since the "Basic" plan is scrapped in Aus, what does it become when we change region?

  • +3

Hello to my Turkish friends from Kenya.

  • I gave up on Netflix after all these price hike.
Stremio + RealDebrid is best and cheaper (16 Euro / 6 months).

You can also point RealDebrid to Plex.

    • How to get the same Netflix kind of with these two(Streamio+RealDebrid)?
      Can you please educate us?

      • -1

Search "Ultimate guide to Stremio + Torrentio + RD" on google. It will change your home video entertainment life.
Basically like getting every subscription in the world (and more), for 50-ish bucks a year

        • Does the content come with Dolby vision and Dolby atmos?

          • @Aussiecash: sure. Just need to select the right file. I suggest to set up Torrentio to order the files by quality, then size, this way you always get the best quality 4k files in front. And hopefully you have a good enough download speed because you'll need it (we are talking up to 40-50 GB files). Important, do not order your files by seeds because it's pointless with RD (you are not using torrent to download so seeds are meaningless)

        • @SJ50 got it setup on Windows 11. Mini pc. Aware its better if I dump Ubuntu on it. Just see first.
Tried to search but cannot find where the other users can add to watchlist and it ad it. Works on my main account. Got elf real debrid rclone and Plex addon.
          Sorry to bother :/

          • @Mikael: Sorry I am confused, what is the issue?

            • @SJ50: Not an issue itself. Set it up and working. Just want others to be able to put in their watchlist and it gets added. At the moment just my profile that it is working on.

    • ~A$5 per month not bad but any cheaper option as I will only use it a few times a month? Be best like 1 month on, download, 3 months off

    • @SJ50 Def gonna look into this. And point to Plex.

    • There's one issue with it I remember, whenever someone uses it outside of the usual location/ip address, there's a chance of your RD account getting banned.

Use RD with PLEX, this way only machine where PLEX is hosted accesses RD and stream it to you.
You can use free Oracle cloud to host RD+PLEX or use Elfhosted (paid)

  • Great price.
I buy shared account from Taobao, its around 6 aud for three mouths, it worked pretty well for me for the past year. BUT if too many people using Netflix at the same time, you may not be able to assess it, this incident is rare but possible .

    • Is there Netflix in China since you mention Taobao?

      • NO, But there is a lot demands, people find a way to get around that,

        • I used to get a bunch of eBooks for $1 each on Taobao. Not bad. They seem to have a wide variety. I lost access to all the data I bought using my previous Taobao account since I couldn't ID check the qq mail linked to it lol

How much is a usable Chinese ID or a Chinese number these days?

          • @Bii: Its fairly cheap i guess, but the problem is the periodical id check, even face id is used.

            • @Sigmund Freud: Yeah the face id check is a pain. Best to have a Chinese friend which I have never contacted for years.

People who are savvy enough to do this but not set up stremio is baffling.

I got flamed hard for recommending real debrid + kodi/stremio because "I'm not paying $60/year when I can torrent for free", well OK then..

Yeah generally a tough crowd when it comes to that stuff, but they love ripping off a small business when they have a price error and then run their names to the ground if they don't honour it. Crazy really

Stremio is the best thing ever, but Kodi is trash tbf
