Netflix Monthly: Basic KES300 (~A$2.93), Standard KES700 (~A$6.84), Premium KES1,100 (~A$10.74) @ Netflix (VPN Kenya Req'd)

4460

Good afternoon Ozbargainers. Looks like a lot of people will migrate to Kenya for cheap Netflix with very simple steps.

Because I suck at formatting, no table from me but price comparison are the following:

Australia Prices:

Basic Plan: (No longer available in Australia unless you previously were on it)

Standard with Ads: AU$6.99/month

Standard: AU$16.99/month

Premium: AU$22.99 / month

Kenyan Prices

Basic: 300 KES /month (~AU$2.93)

Standard: 700 KES /month (~AU$6.84)

Premium: 1,100 KES /month (~AU$10.74)

Note: Basic plan it's 720p (HD) and only for one device, Standard plan 1080p (Full HD) and for two devices, Premium plan it's 4K + HDR (Ultra HD) and for four different devices.

Converting Prices are from MasterCard official website

How to Sign up: (Super Easy Steps)

  1. Connect your VPN to Kenya (I used free TunnelBear VPN)

  2. Once you are connected to VPN Kenya. Go to the Netflix website. https://www.netflix.com/au/

  3. Sign up to an account (I haven't tried a pre-existing account, possibly it will work).

  4. Choose a plan. Image

  5. Pay with your card that doesn't have any international fees (Revolut most likely will fail) Please report back to update post.
Cards that work: UP Bank, Bankwest Platinum Zero, Commbank, Qantas mastercard, Macquarie debit card, NAB,

  6. Disconnect your VPN and you are ready for Netflix. 🍿

So no Kenyan address needed , no telephone number, no hassle.

You can transfer your old profile to your new Netflix.

It works like this:
• Go to netflix.com
• Click Login at the top right.
• Enter the email address or telephone number and the password of the old account on which your Netflix profile is located.
• Click on Log in.
• Click on your profile.
• Click on the picture of your profile / your avatar at the top right.
• Click on Transfer profile.
• Click on Next.
• Enter an email address and password for your new account.

Definitely worth it if you are on premium. Not sure it is worth it you are on standard with ads, just 15 cents and a few ads (not too bad at present).

    • -1

I pay same price for premium in Turkey.

      • My card is expiring and I cant update the card. Netflix is asking me for a phone number and failing to save new card number in payment method..

        • +1

Mine has already expired. They still continue to deduct money and membership continues.

          • @Pricebeat: Aha. Great. I will leave it as such then.

Citibank is taken over by nab. Which card people are using for no international fee?

          • @Pricebeat: Mine stopped and now cant change or add the card.

            • -1

@EnALup: Then you will just have to move to Kenya I guess. Mine is still going and taking money from expired card. I guess it depends on the bank whether they flush out old card details and block it from being used after expiry.

    • +1

I'm happy to go Kenyan. Once you go black you never look back.

  • Yeah what happens if you do this. Do you still get Australian content or are you stuck with content for Kenya?. Meaning some content may not be available.

    • +12

Content is based on your IP address at time of login not signup. So if you login with Australian IP you will get Australian netflix content. Content doesn't depend on which country you signed up in

    • +4

Once you turn off VPN and open Netflix, you get Aus contents.

I successfully paid on Turkey premium netflix last month and All good except I can't play without VPN on turkey so I cancelled the membership and will end in few days, is there potentially I've done wrong and I should do differently to make it work out VPN to watch? If I could do, I will re-join with Kenya. Please help

I successfully paid on Turkey premium netflix last month and All good except I can't play without VPN on turkey so I cancelled the membership

I don’t think you bothered to read the post I made on the Netflix Turkey guide.

          • +1

@I Smell Pennies: I read carefully and make the order on the paper to follow., would you be able to pinpoint what I have not done so I can ensure to follow correctly with Kenya VPN? I used option to pay and get the validation sms.

            • +12

@Ryoon: I think he is referencing the fact that many (all?) people get an initial 28 day geo restriction after signing up in which you can only access Netflix on Turkey VPN. From personal experience this is what happened to me when I signed up back in September. After approx. 28 days - which was still a couple of days prior to my second monthly payment - the error message went away and since then I have been able to access Australian library VPN free.
I believe point this is covered in the FAQ of ISP’s guide.

              • +1

@mwilliams2: Once you mention, I remember I read that message, then now I'm thinking whether I should just stay with Turkey., Turkey is brother country of my origin country.

                • +3

@Ryoon: Stick with Turkey if I were you.

                  • +1

@starburstyellow: Yes, I've resubscribed and will be renewed in few days., I noticed that price difference may not be significant or perhaps still cheaper with Turkey.

                • +6

@Ryoon: Looks like you received a Turkey right in time for xmas

            • +2

@Ryoon: to be fair @I Smell Pennies has spent a considerable amount of their time putting together the guide & keeping it current whilst helping Ozb'ers, reread the guide and ensure you followed it exactly step by step as it is proven to work, if it's just a case of being geo restricted then just accept that it should work after the 28 day restriction

            • +1

@Ryoon: I know its a month late, but I had same thing happen to me, and came across your comment. I checked and it hadnt charged me any money yet. I just hit back, put my card details in again, then clicked pay again, it took payment and didnt require a mobile phone verification. It only wanted mobile number for password backup.

  • +3

not tried yet, but thumbs up for the effort.

edit: paying 10.95 AUD with my turkish netflix 4k premo account - so no benefit to go from turkey-kenya then?

    • few cents I guess :)

      • Based on today’s rates. Could be other way next month

    • +1

Same here. Turkey has been good to me and the premium acct extra users works no problems

      • +1

can you elaborate on the extra users? do you mean you can share the account with other people who don't live in the same household? I thought Turkey didn't have this option

        • Can confirm they do

          • @ChatCPT: Oh okay and that's with extra fees?

            • +1

@yayo321: Fees? It’s just a premium account in Turkish lira equiv A$10

  • Assuming you need to have your premium membership lapse before doing it?

    • +1

      Can't create new account?

    • +1

Yes. Sorry missed that part. I only checked on new accounts.

    • +1

Can confirm let my regular AU account expire and next day restarted membership after using TunnelBear

Did say trouble doing payment method once and also had to refresh on the SMS confirmation twice but we got their eventually!

Thanks mate 🙂. 4K Premium Plan it's a bit cheaper in Turkey I think. But Kenyan steps a bit simplier/easier I think.

I don't even know what you were trying to achieve.

    • +1

      Cringe

  • +2

If they find out you’re using it from Australia, will they ban the account or anything?

    • +39

      They'll offer you Kenyan citizenship

    • +1

I have a hard time believing they can detect your location precisely enough to accuse you of account sharing when you use Netflix at Grandma's, but can't figure out that you subscribed in Kenya but usually watch in Australia…

      • Agree, but at this point they aren’t doing anything about it.
Im guessing that a relatively small percentage of users are doing this, compared to the huge amount who share accounts with friends etc.

If at some stage netflix decided its worthwhile cracking down on , then im sure it won’t be hard for them to detect , unless you permanently set up vpn redirection etc.

    • +2

Some of us have been subscribed for years (Türkiye) and they've never done anything about it. Heck I haven't even been hit with the account sharing thing yet, my dad and sister both use my account and it's not complained about us being in different locations.

    • Ok then, what’s good to binge nowadays?

Looks like Ghana have some cheap YouTube Premium prices at the moment. Roughly $5.30pm for Family.

    It only just launched there

    • $3.56/month via India

      • Moved my family to Turkey recently because India cracked down on non-Indian issued cards. Was charged around $6 a few days ago.

        • pakistan, any card works

          • +1

@gingerscale: For now, it only works with Pakistan issued cards
However, if you managed to set it up before the crackdown, it should probably last until the card expires
