Netflix Monthly: Basic KES300 (~A$2.93), Standard KES700 (~A$6.84), Premium KES1,100 (~A$10.74) @ Netflix (VPN Kenya Req'd)

4460

Good afternoon Ozbargainers. Looks like a lot of people will migrate to Kenya for cheap Netflix with very simple steps.

Because I suck at formatting, no table from me but price comparison are the following:

Australia Prices:

Basic Plan: (No longer available in Australia unless you previously were on it)

Standard with Ads: AU$6.99/month

Standard: AU$16.99/month

Premium: AU$22.99 / month

Kenyan Prices

Basic: 300 KES /month (~AU$2.93)

Standard: 700 KES /month (~AU$6.84)

Premium: 1,100 KES /month (~AU$10.74)

Note: Basic plan it's 720p (HD) and only for one device, Standard plan 1080p (Full HD) and for two devices, Premium plan it's 4K + HDR (Ultra HD) and for four different devices.

Converting Prices are from MasterCard official website

How to Sign up: (Super Easy Steps)

  1. Connect your VPN to Kenya (I used free TunnelBear VPN)

  2. Once you are connected to VPN Kenya. Go to the Netflix website. https://www.netflix.com/au/

  3. Sign up to an account (I haven't tried a pre-existing account, possibly it will work).

  4. Choose a plan. Image

  5. Pay with your card that doesn't have any international fees (Revolut most likely will fail) Please report back to update post.
Cards that work: UP Bank, Bankwest Platinum Zero, Commbank, Qantas mastercard, Macquarie debit card, NAB,

  6. Disconnect your VPN and you are ready for Netflix. 🍿

So no Kenyan address needed , no telephone number, no hassle.

You can transfer your old profile to your new Netflix.

It works like this:
• Go to netflix.com
• Click Login at the top right.
• Enter the email address or telephone number and the password of the old account on which your Netflix profile is located.
• Click on Log in.
• Click on your profile.
• Click on the picture of your profile / your avatar at the top right.
• Click on Transfer profile.
• Click on Next.
• Enter an email address and password for your new account.

  • Worked. Thanks OP

  • After I put in email address get error “ Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again later.”
    Any clues?

    • While signing up on Kenya Netflix?
Are you using a pre existing account? Maybe that's why.

      • Yes, signing up for Netflix. Don’t think I have previous account. Will make new email and try again. Thanks

        • +1

Just tried again, same device same email. Setting up Netflix without the error. Thanks for your help

What cards are you guys using with no intl fees? Need to get myself one

    • +2

UP Bank - also a great card for international travel with no fees.

      • used my ING saver account
        $10.68, no international fees…yet

    • +3

From my experience, Up Debit Mastercard has been the best. I've used it for both YouTube Premium and Netflix from many different regions without issues. Others I have tried like 28degrees, Revolut etc… have been hit and miss.

    • +1

Bankwest Platinum Zero. Just signed up. Worked a treat.

For anyone considering switching from Turkey, Basic is ~$2 cheaper, Standard ~$1 cheaper and Premium is ~$0.50 more expensive.

    • I am paying with Turgame voucher since I cannot use my credit card. I'll have to pay 0.5 to $1 extra every time I am buying the voucher, so probably add this on top.

  • So this method will allow you to set up an ongoing Basic plan and Netflix AU will allow you continuing streaming upon monthly renewal via Kenya?

  • Have people with overseas accounts been able to use their Netflix when they travel? Ever since I got my turkey or Argentina account. I have never been able to use it overseas. Seems to work in Australia only..not sure why.

    • Yeah I noticed that! Kind of annoying

    • Turkey and Argentina accounts are blocked in quite a few countries

  • +1

I welcome any trick that will prevent us from paying the “Australia tax”. But I suspect they’ll eventually crack down on this if enough people are starting to exploit this loophole. For now it’s a great bargain for what I consider a vastly overpriced offering.

If only there were similar schemes for physical goods that cost too much in Australia.

    • Once they do, I will stop paying for Netflix. Easy as.

  • Great signed up for basic …

  • +3

Netflix has lost my business since they removed account sharing (I travel a lot for work). Honestly many of these companies have forgotten that their whole business model relies on them being convenient. If I pay for a 4k subscription and don't use the app I can't get 4K, if I want to use it when travelling then there are extra hoops. The Kenyan deal is cheaper than Netflix Oz but I still find it leaves a bitter taste to give them money.

    • Are they seriously blocking you now, even if it is within Australia? Haven't used Netflix in a year…

  • I think Pakistan is still way cheaper, 5 or 7 dollars a month for premium!

    • Pak vs Turkey are similar prices though right?

      • I think Pakistan is cheaper, costs less than 6 but it appears that they no longer accept Australian cards

  • Works good.

  • +1

The Argentine plan is quite good again following the Peso being devalued by 50% by the Argentina government too. Works out to be AUD$10.78 for Premium.

    • Thanks for mentioning! I cancelled my Argentine membership at first when I saw the email about the plan increasing from ARS 3,999 to ARS 5,799 before the peso got devalued. Have just restarted the membership

  • Asking for a Kenyan mobile number for me to complete the signup. Looks like Netflix got wind of it.

    • On what device are you trying to sign up? I tried on mobile device (android) no mobile number was asked.

    • +4

Just click NEXT without entering a number to proceed.

      • Um why did you get downvoted. You are correct.

You get frigging billed before that phone number even pops up.

If your card expires though you are screwed.

        Ignore it.

    • mobile is optional and for password recovery

      • Also required when you change payment methods.

  • I am using the tunnelbear extension in Chrome.

    • On Android? Maybe close the tab and try again. Also make sure you sign up for a new account on the website.

Real Debrid is so much easier why bother dicking around?

    • +1

Crazy being negg'd for telling the truest of truths

    • I use TeaTV on google chromecast tv would love a pointer to a good guide or tips for install/running Real Debrid (is there some form of sub required, think there was last time I looked, happy to be wrong) cheers

  • Closed the browser and started all over again. Worked this time. The message changed to "Set up password recovery. Your phone number will be used to help you access and recover your account. Message and data rates may apply.

  • +1

Unfortunately doesnt work for me both on chrome for ios phone and pc, requires a turkey phone number every time after card information :c

    • Turkey? On what deal you are on?
Have you used an old account? I haven't tried that, it works for new accounts though.

      • Kenya, tried it on an old account and two new accounts, both to no avail :( Im guessing its probably random on who gets that phone number page. Just unforunate for me

        • I would start fresh. You need to make sure that your VPN lands you to Kenya. TunnelBear Free VPN works. Go to the Netflix page, sign up for a new account there, and then choose your plan. Add your payment details and you are ready to go.

          • +1

@Scrooge McDeal: Yup, just kept refreshing the credit card page and it eventually worked :D Thanks OP

            • @Justahappymortal: I had the same issue, submitting without entering a phone number worked after 3 attempts

          • @Scrooge McDeal: After payment details it takes me to mobile phone number verification and no way to go next.

Customer service said it's not possible to create an account without a phone number.

            • @Squirmy Squid: You shouldn't have contacted customer service. Now they most probably know if they didn't know yet.
If you haven't paid yet, I would scrab the whole account and start fresh. Following the steps on the description. I used Chrome browser, mobile device (android) and Free TunnelBear VPN. Good luck.

              • @Scrooge McDeal: I followed the steps. Chrome browser on laptop with tunnelbear extension. All went well except the page after the payment page. If I go back it just tells me to complete signup.

I'll try again on my mobile this time with a different email address.

              • +1

@Scrooge McDeal: Just done it from my phone. No phone number required. All working.

Thank you! $3 month is about all its worth. Now i need a deal on stan. 😊

    • Stan is Australian owned and operates only in Australia. You may only be able to buy gift cards for a tad cheaper if anything.

  • Have I missed something? Why is everybody abandoning Turkey?

    • +2

If you're already on Turkey Netflix, this isn't the deal for you. It's almost the same price. Just may be slightly easier to get around the red tape of your payment method being accepted using Kenya vs Turkey.

  • What if you have existing credit from gift cards, can it be transferred over?

    • Also - what if you have unused gift cards ready to add to your account?

  • +1

How long does it last each month until Netflix work it out?

    • +1

Last about 1 month each month.

    • +1

      30-31 days, typically.

  • The easiest way.. Thanks OP..better do it on android, no phone verification.

  • thank you for sharing, works well with me by following the instructions, just click next when you see the text message verification.

  • +1

Thanks OP. worked on my IOS. no mobile needed. I refreshed 3 time credit card page and once you got charged then you good to go !! Just keep refreshing the credit card page. you will get this page and you can skip mobile number.

  • Cheers good to know

  • Have tried several cards, keep getting "There appears to be a problem with the payment method you are trying to use."

  • +1

Cheers. Worked fine using Tunnelbear and Commbank cc. No issues adding an aussie number when prompted for a Kenyan one. Just change the country to Aus.

  • Cheers OP ! Worked a treat. I used my UP debit to pay for standard .700 KES = $6.84

  • +1

thanks for the deal, anything worth watching ?

  • great

  • +1

    Worked for me just then.
    Using Tunnel Bear.

It did ask for a Kenyan Number, but i just pressed back and resubmitted the details and it went through.

  • Thanks! Worked fine using Tunnelbear VPN and Commbank debit card.

Made a brand new account. You don't need to input a mobile number like some people claimed above.

  • Not really sure this works. I successfully signed up with a new netflix account. It did ask for a Kenyan Number, but i just pressed back and resubmitted the details and it went through including payment.

But then when I then tried to watch on a different computer (non VPN), it locked me out of my account after a minute with an email "Security alert: change your Netflix password". Then when I try to reset my password the website then said "Sorry, but something went wrong. Please try again later."

    • Same here, I can't even reset my password. Did you managed to fix the issue?

      • +1

I logged back into the VPN computer, then the reset password was successful and I got the email to reset the password.

Then I went to the non VPN Australian computer to click the email and do the password reset and that worked.

        Hopefully that does the trick

  • success here.
it did ask for a phone number. but just left the page. and logged in. success

    card was charged $10

    qantas mastercard.

  • Playing on one device at a time or you have to log in and log out?

  • Cheers! Signed up for Premium. Couldn't justify Aus prices, cancelled long ago but for $10ish, happy to have for a few months.
    Worked with express VPN

  • Can I change my payment card after everything is set for the new account? My card expires soon and a new one will take place.

  • thanks for saving me $3/month. switched from turkey.

  • Anyone tried it with an existing Netflix account?

  • Is kenya household locked?
    Edit: Looks like it

  • +2

    Greetings from Kenya.

  • What's the point of getting all this trouble for getting Netflix for less money, when you can have it (plus every other streaming service in the world) for zero, with a lot less trouble and even less legal concerns through Stremio and a Debrid service?

    • Is this legal? What's your setup?

    • Because if you don't pay for content, they don't create new content. Having said that, Netflix seem hell bent on not creating good new content but abusing the subscribers more and more.

      • +2

People would willingly pay Netflix NOT to create any more content.

  • I tried to sign up and in the final stage, after entering my CC details it asks for Kenya Mobile number to confirm the account.

They changed the verification process I think party is over 😕

    • +2

I just signed up sucessfully. You just need to simply click back Netflix logo to go back to homepage.

    • I got the same thing, have you resolved it?

    • I think that indicates the credit card was not compatible/accepted

      • +1

I think you are right. But the post says CBA card should work and I used a CBA card…

        • I used ANZ credit card

  • Kenya is the first place I ever watched Netflix! Was on holiday from Australia and it had just launched here, so I had a new subscription. Turned out Netflix had just launched in Kenya too, so that's where I binged. Works fine, and broadband is pretty good there (yes I know this is about VPN-ing your way to a cheap account).

  • +1

Worked for me using Macquarie debit card, got charged $10.69

  • I've got Netflix Turkey, but there is almost no decent content being added anymore. There is zero we watch on Netflix now, but I keep hoping for the old days where they created good content. Apple content has been very good, but the interface will drive you up the wall, and that's from a so called computer company.

  • any geolocking for Kenya?

  • +1

Does Kenya also support multiple households on Premium by default (which I think turkiye does)? If so might be good to add in the Aussie comparison.
