Netflix Monthly: Basic KES300 (~A$2.93), Standard KES700 (~A$6.84), Premium KES1,100 (~A$10.74) @ Netflix (VPN Kenya Req'd)

4460

Good afternoon Ozbargainers. Looks like a lot of people will migrate to Kenya for cheap Netflix with very simple steps.

Because I suck at formatting, no table from me but price comparison are the following:

Australia Prices:

Basic Plan: (No longer available in Australia unless you previously were on it)

Standard with Ads: AU$6.99/month

Standard: AU$16.99/month

Premium: AU$22.99 / month

Kenyan Prices

Basic: 300 KES /month (~AU$2.93)

Standard: 700 KES /month (~AU$6.84)

Premium: 1,100 KES /month (~AU$10.74)

Note: Basic plan it's 720p (HD) and only for one device, Standard plan 1080p (Full HD) and for two devices, Premium plan it's 4K + HDR (Ultra HD) and for four different devices.

Converting Prices are from MasterCard official website

How to Sign up: (Super Easy Steps)

  1. Connect your VPN to Kenya (I used free TunnelBear VPN)

  2. Once you are connected to VPN Kenya. Go to the Netflix website. https://www.netflix.com/au/

  3. Sign up to an account (I haven't tried a pre-existing account, possibly it will work).

  4. Choose a plan. Image

  5. Pay with your card that doesn't have any international fees (Revolut most likely will fail) Please report back to update post.
Cards that work: UP Bank, Bankwest Platinum Zero, Commbank, Qantas mastercard, Macquarie debit card, NAB,

  6. Disconnect your VPN and you are ready for Netflix. 🍿

So no Kenyan address needed , no telephone number, no hassle.

You can transfer your old profile to your new Netflix.

It works like this:
• Go to netflix.com
• Click Login at the top right.
• Enter the email address or telephone number and the password of the old account on which your Netflix profile is located.
• Click on Log in.
• Click on your profile.
• Click on the picture of your profile / your avatar at the top right.
• Click on Transfer profile.
• Click on Next.
• Enter an email address and password for your new account.

  • Thanks OP, worked with 28degree card.

I can't use the previous account which signed up in Türkiye. Always shown wrong password if I tried to login in Kenya with TunnelBear VPN android. If VPN off, then I can login my account in AU. So created a brand new account and signed up in Kenya with VPN.

  • Just signed up via mobile (new account), and so far so good. Tested on the TV, with sign in via mobile and no issues.

Will report back if any issues.

  • Did anyone lose access, its taken me to a white screen where I have to resubscribe with AUD prices

  • I still get asked to enter in a Kenyan mobile number to verify. I tried using a incognito tab and also closing the tab but doesn't work for me. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

  • basic is 720p - wtf

  • Banned from G2A for accidently trying to pay while using VPN and now Turgame keeps telling me it can't complete the sale because I'm using a VPN (which I was at first), looks like I'm moving to Kenya and starting a new account.

Edit: New account started but unable to work around the Kenya sms confirmation. Might have to use one of the other grey markets for Turkey gist cards ….. or ditch them again.

  • Interesting to see how close it is in price to turkey. Turkey is still cheaper on a family plan (9.5 vs 10.4 aud atm. The lira is still trending down.)
This process seems much easier than the process for sign up with turkey, no phone number needed for verification. Curious if it still has the 28 day geolock period. Also, does the Kenyan plan have the password sharing limits yet? Turkey is still free of that. Have heard from a couple of people that Netflix has blocked their accounts from turkey though, so this may be a back up. Would love to see an interactive table with the prices and current conversion of different geolocations for Netflix, Spotify etc. might be a job for the morning. Thanks for the deal!

  • Hi
Do I need to have my Kenya vpn on while watching?

    Thanks 🙏

Apparently not. Just for signing up.

    • +1

Definitely not Only required when establishing an account

  • Is it still working for every one?

    • +1

You may not want to risk it as peoples account been billed then account got cancelled.

      • Appreciate the heads up

Quick update… I signed up on 07/01/2024, and I'm still active.

I had to reset the password a couple of times without any issues.

There are a couple of things that I am mindful of…

    1) always use the VPN to access the account details, even when clicking links from your email.
    2) access the account via mobile
    3) use incognito mode
    4) make sure all devices are not using the account while accessing the account via VPN.

I'll post another update in a couple of weeks.

  • Been working well since 24-12-23

  • Im unable get through the payment section as im getting “ There appears to be a problem with payment method you are trying to use” error. Tried comm bank card as well as Wise. Can you help me with a work around please? Thanks.

    • i have same problem with wise

  • Thanks OP worked for me with TunnelBear, Chrome incognito on mobile (iphone) and Westpac CC. I managed to just skip the step where it asked for phone number.

I did get the error with the password. After some trial and error, I worked out that I need to go to the Kenyan netflix (with VPN on) and then click 'reset password' (or whatever it says. Going to the Australian login and then 'reset password' doesn't work). I then received an email and simply reset the password at netflix.com/au and logged on.

  • I signed up with an ING debit card when this was posted and it worked. But my card has since expired and it's not accepting my new card details.

I've got a couple weeks left for this month, so I'll try again soon on a new account, but has anyone found a workaround for this?

Signed up on the 24th of Dec and have this months (January) taken out so,so far so good

  • Suddenly I cannot access any content without using vpn, been paying by Turkish lira and now have to use Turkish vpn to access contents. Anyone on the same boat or know how to fix this?

    • This deal is for Kenya, so no idea about Turkey

  • Just tried signing up to a new account since it wouldn't let me update my card details after the one I signed up with expired.

Unfortunately I'm getting the same 'unable to process' message when entering card details with an ING debit card.

Is anyone still able to sign up to a new account?

  • Stopped by the sms verification. I even managed to find a free Kenyan number for sms but Netflix found no joy. I then went to try and verify an Australian phone number and it never sent the code to verify through.

    • Leave mobile number blank and click next - worked for me

  • Why is this one expired, I signed up 2 days ago, worked perfectly with 28 degrees card

  • My account just got cancelled/refunded I used my physical Up card.

    • Just sign back up .
I've been on the Kenyan pricing since December. Yesterday netflix signed me out and asked to signup but showing AUD pricing.
I used the vpn again and signed back up via my physical UP card
      Working again 🙂

  • I got commbank keeps saying there appears to be a problem with the card you are using

Mine still working but only about 4 days so far. I will report if still ok after a renewal. My steps:
    1. Use tunnel bear VPN free plan - connected to Kenya
    2. Used Vivaldi browser (chrome will work the same) - using private browsing mode
    3. Signed up www.netflix.com (not /au as in shown in the link in this post, .com only takes you to their Kenya link) - brand new account with a new email address
    4. I used a 28 degrees credit card (no fees but I find works every time for all of these “workaround” subscriptions), many normal cards such as ING, CBA etc are unreliable.
    5. Followed the rest of the instructions as described - except, what is missing from instructions is that you need to leave mobile field blank and it lets you continue without issue.
    6. At this point, I disconnected and then tried logging into Netflix on my TV, and it said password was wrong. Don’t chose forget password, instead, go back to your computer or phone with tunnel bear, make sure you login to Netflix properly with VPN on, play any show. Now disconnect VPN, and you will be able to login with the password you originally used fine.
    7. I then followed profile transfer instructions to transfer my watch history from my old account (only works if this isn’t cancelled yet) to my new Kenyan account. All worked fine.

Been watching a lot over last few days and no issue at all.

  • They finally made my account inactive. Was using netflix fine yesterday. Last payment I made was 18th of Jan. Was 27 episodes into Pokemon Indigo league :(

  • I got charged on the 2nd Feb, and it has just be deactivated. What happens now? Is there a refund or.

    • I'm in exactly the same position, too. Would love to know what to do next.. I wonder if they'd issue a refund soon or we bring it up with our credit card issuer..?

      • same boat. my account was working fine till this morning. Asked to restart membership, added the ing card again, says "There appears to be a problem with the payment method you are trying to use." but they charged me back 2 days ago already :(

  • Not working as of today

  • Mine died today. And they took money for the month too.

  • Mine also died today. Last payment taken on 18th Jan and no refund!

    • +1

Mine also stopped, no partial refund. But I opened the website with a Kenyan vpn and re added the same card and am watching again. So will just have to see how long this lasts. I’ll post again when/if they cancel.

      • I can't log back in. Won't let me use the old email as well.

        • +1

I did have to reset the password and was offered to resign in oz. But then connected via Kenyan vpn in incognito mode. But looking at this and the turkey thread it looks like the party is over.

  • Mine died this morning too. Was using CBA card. Lasted 3 weeks.

Anyone using 28 deg card with any luck?

    • I've been kicked off too.
Billed on 27 December and 27 January and then kicked on 6 February.
I was using 28 degrees card.
I couldn't log in to Netflix, the password wouldn't work.
      Reset the password via SMS.
My Netflix account had no trace of the plan I'd paid for, but still had some tattered remains such as name, billing details (700 Kes!) and phone number.
I could take out another plan but I suspect that someone at Netflix has a vendetta against us. They are not making any friends.

    Also stopped today. ING card.

  • Was also shown the door today Used a macquarie card

  • Yep, booted off

  • I guess game over?

    • Seems like it, kicked after 5 days into my second billing period living in kenya. CBA card.
Decided to try out standard with ads for $7 a month.

  • +1

    Mine cancelled and plan removed.
Charged for the next billing cycle too 😢

    • Mine died too and charged for my next billing cycle too (6 Feb).

  • Dead for me too….28 degrees card

  • Mine died too. I called up netflix and got a refund as I had paid for half the month

    • Surprised this worked. They assured me they weren't giving any refunds.

I also signed up had last payment on 18th and cancelled today.

    • Did they query your location, account information during set-up? Mine has been booted today, signed-up 27/12, charged again 27/01, NAB Visa, not sure what I'd say if they queried me on "misleading info"?
Account profile, payment history still showing, was never logged out on PC, just "welcome back, restart…"

      • EDIT: jumped on Chat - "was cancelled due to suspicious activity" -I didn't ask what.
Said I will get a refund posted "may take up to 30 days" - I asked if "posted" was financial term for "processed", rep said will be refunded back through payment method. /shrug, wait…

I haven't tried Kenya, but this site worked for me to get a netflix text message to a Turkey number and there is an option there to do an sms for Kenya - https://sms-man.com/

  • Also kicked off and not accepting my CBA card or Latitude card :(

  • I have raised a dispute with CBA as the Netflix support said no refund.

    • Update: CBA refunded on dispute.

      • Wat did U say to bank to get the charge back?

        • Service not received.

          • @djsydney: Cool thanks! Bankwest refunded on dispute too

  • Just got kicked out of Kenya

  • I've been de-Kenyaned!

  • Me as well, boooooooo!

  • Got booted too. Was only half way through the month… Ive restarted the sub and got charged a new month :(, see what happens…

  • +1

Guys, come back to Turkey :)

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/829985

  • Just got kicked out too

  • Party is over! Got booted as well 😔

  • Had a bad feeling when this thread suddenly became so active! Same here. Told to go netflix.com to finish signing up :( what's the next go, guys??

    • +1

I just signed right back up via Kenyan VPN. Let's see. I could also access Turkish pricing so that's the next step if this cancels again

      • I tried to do that but my cards were not accepted,

        • I used a physical UP card , I've seen in other comments that the wise card work as well . I haven't tried any of the big banks.

  • +1

I got kicked out too but signed up again using VPN yesterday and its working since then

    • Can I ask, did u sign up with the same email address? Did you get charged again?

      • +1

Yes same details and card. Charge wasn't showing yesterday but showing now.

        • +1

          That's not fair. :-(

I just been charged yesterday for next billing cycle then account banned. I think I should quit Netflix. I will raise a dispute later today.

          • @huhuu77: Agree. I'm over Netflix. Basically watched all their decent content anyway.

          • @huhuu77: Pls let me know how it goes.

            • @Bik: I chatted with online agent, he said no refund and I have raised a dispute with my bank. He sent me some emails with 'manage payment' link etc, he said I can try to update the payment details, if successful I can watch again.

I just submitted the dispute, I don't want to get double charged. If I can get the refund, I may try the links.

  • Same here. Charged 2 days ago and got booted. @rseholes.

  • I have been booted too.

  • Got charged then booted a day later :(

No dice on refunding through support either

  • booted also…

  • Damn, just got kicked out after 2 months :(

  • Mine kicked out after 2 months. Now what.

    • +1

      Time to move to turkey.

      • Are they still working? Actually I think I have seen the stuff I wanted to.

        • +1

Still working last i heard but not as cheap as before.

  • its now asking for a mobile number?

    • They are onto you.

  • Got booted as well, time to go Turkey I think!
