Netflix Turkey Membership Cancelled on 24/02/2024 - Are You Also Affected? Vote on Poll

Hi all, a lot of people in the netflix turkey thread is saying their membership has been cancelled but did not specific the payment type.

I am trying to determine what the criteria of membership cancellation is, please vote only if you are on Netflix Turkey

Error if your membership is cancelled

Sorry this account is no longer active. Please sign up again or sign in to a different account.”

EDIT: Official "story" provided by netflix:

As per checking To protect members against unauthorized charges, we sometimes cancel accounts that show signs of unusual activity. It looks like your account was canceled for this reason.

They will even recommend you dispute charge via your card company to get a refund as they did not provide you with the service you paid for. So everyone go and get your money back and then buy Turkey Gift Cards ahaha Personally I recommend turgame 200TL gift cards if you order after 5pm they will arrive pretty fast.

    • Use pingme app you can get a temporary number specifically for netflix

  • Nope I shut Netflix down and put in card details, it still wants a Turkish phone number

  • Erdogan built what he calls the FU Australia bridge. Ecpect more to come….

Cancelled with Aussie card payment. Bought $50 of gift cards with Turgame and applied. Can only watch while connected to Turkey via VPN. Get geoblocked without VPN :( don’t do the same as me

    • A good time to say goodbye to Netflix

    • +5

New sign ups have 30 days geoblocking. You don't need a vpn after 30 days (if they don't cancel again).

      • Not true, I just signed up via vpn to Netflix India and can watch Netflix without VPN turned on

    • I wonder if Getflix smart dns will help here

      • I can use my PureVPN to watch it myself but my baby boomer parents are the ones that told me that there’s something wrong with Netflix :( they use it more than me. And I was mid binge of Big Bang Theory - not available on Netflix Turkey apparently!

        • Check out just watch - is on almost every streaming service including prime if you got that.
Looks like the first 5 seasons are on 10 Play.

Would be a good achievement if they knew how to activate a VPN lol.

      • +1

Getflix still exists? It stopped working a while ago.

      • +1

I believe Getflix is a Turkish company, or the owners are Turkish but ironically their dns doesn't work for Turkish streaming services.

    • If you create a new account you obviously get geoblock for 30 day's

For those considering moving onto the $6.99 plan, don't forget that some TV shows and movies aren't actually available on it.

    Needs a new poll.
    1. Are you going to or currently signed up with Netflix Australia.
    2. No it’s a pirates life for me.
    2. No there’s nothing on Netflix I want.

    • New poll = new forum post

Feel free to create one. I created this one to determine if Turkey Netflix is dead to me or whether gift card is still a viable payment option.

      • Yes, meant since that’s now been established.

        • Well gift card may still be an option but it doesn’t seem worth the hassle anymore.

  • I've never tried the one with ads. Does the ads play before and after? Does it ever happen in the middle? I don't really use Netflix much but on the occasion I think I can do with 6.99.

    • Theres maybe two or three ads in a 40 min show and they seem to only last less then 20 seconds each, it really didn't make much of a difference to the experience I thought

      • +1

But do you really want to encourage these greedy, slimy streaming company's to introduce ads you know the whole reason we moved to streaming….

Back to pthe pirate life for me! Easier, cheaper, and most importantly no need to go through 100 services to find what I want

Now everyone who got cancelled, cant you just renew it with the same card info? How about we try some methods? anyone tried resetting password and resubscribing?

    • They removed my 28D card. When I try to add it back in, I get an error. Others who tried to add it in were asked for Turkey phone number.

  • First they cancelled my Lebanon Adobe, then my Turkey Netflix. What next? My GoogleOne Turkey?

    • Google one is alrwady cracked down, mine cant renew anymore, probably yours as well

      • My 2TB TR GoogleOne is still active. I cound not find the date it's going to expire.

        • just remember to download all your data before credit card expires, since you can't update your cc# anymore.

      • any addons to download to watch offline on planes?

        • Not sure. But you could probably skip Stremio and use Real Debrid + favourite website to download to the device and watch using VLC.

Wow, I'm getting a headache reading all these hoops everyone is jumping through to get it working.

I gave up when I found out some of my shows were only streaming on Netflix US. So I was using an app that helped with the geo-blocking that Netflix did. After a month or so of always updating the servers and DNSs, I just gave up and sailed the seas.

I now use Firestick and Real-debrid and haven't looked back. Game changer.

    • I haven't seen 4k material when you use those methods, as I was using some kodi addons in the past before using this loophole which is now dead.

      • When it's setup with torrentio, you list in preference of quality. I sort it by that and watch all in 4k. Firestick also matches output to my TV and things have never looked better.

        • Hi does it work well with chromecast

    • Is there any guide for real debrid? And you much does it cost?

  • GG struggling to get a chargeback from Revolut too. Any tips on this? They definitely don't make it straightforward (no option for "service not provided).

    • -6

You have to choose the "Service terminated for violating Terms of Use or … engaged in illegal or fraudulent use of the service." option.

      • -2

They rejected my dispute. I put in official complaint.

@G-rig: Netflix has right to deny you a service and close your account, but I disagree with them keeping money for the period you paid for.

    • +3

Imagine paying for a subscription and you are breaking the law.
It should be illegal for Netflix to have various prices based on country for subscriptions

      • It's a joke

I think it's more a dissection of the concept of artificial scarcity.

          • @monky: Look at Rolex for the ultimate case study of artificial scarcity. What other product exist where people are so excited to be given the chance to pay someone for a non essential product.

            • @illusion99: Apple iPhone, Apple airpods, Apple vision pro, Apple watch, Apple…

              • @THICKnSLOW: Sure but apple fanboys aren’t posting all over the internet “I got the call!!!!!!” And “after 5 longs years, I got the call!”

There’s no scarcity in most Apple products. I can go into any Apple Store and pick up my choice of iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, MacBook on the spot. Can’t do that with a Rolex

                • @illusion99: I don't know anything about Rolex other than they are expensive. Is that how they operate? You go to a Rolex store and see demo unit and then they have to order it in for you?

            • @illusion99: There are plenty of non-essential products and services that people spend money on.
Just a wanky example (like the Rolex waiting list)

              • @G-rig: Yes but do they get really excited and tell all their friends and strangers or do they just buy it and move on.

                • @illusion99: you tell me - funny if every single purchase and expense was like this deliberation haha.
What a drama and people pouring a heap of time into it (worth more than $23)

Just like the Turkish ice-cream vendors…

    • +3

Free Netflix for a year if you can grab the cone. No winners yet!

      • +2

you could grab the cone, but it won't contain any ice cream.

    • +1

Haha yes, the urge to slap them across the face

  • Disney, HBO and Paramount+ streaming services have all begun doing this as well.

For the few remaining who aren't sailing the high seas for their entertainment content, their about to be !

  • +4

It'll be interesting to see their next subscriber numbers reporting.

    I only kept my account active case it was;
    1) cheap-ish
    2) a bit annoying to re-activate

Netflix now goes back onto the annual subscription cycle. I'll get it for a month or two and then dump it for the next service. End result will be less money for them.
Perfect timing for that Lionel Messi 2 months AppleTV deal!

    • Ozbargain way would be to get free monthly trial on 31 day months

January March May July August October December.

I would not be surprised if Netflix next step was to offer 1 day sub for $1, or 7 day sub for $4 , thereby making their existing plans look more enticing.

$23 is what, 3 coffees from a Cafe a month, or a value meal from McDonald's, so why are people overreacting to a loophole shutdown?

      • Agree it's really not a big sum of money, and consider it $11.50/month if you only have it half the year as you suggested. Would give people a chance to do other stuff as well.

Would be pretty tight as a patent cancelling it whilst all their friends have it and talking about it, but good luck haha. People could always go around to their neighbours and watch a movie.

I'm pretty sure most people would spend 23$ very quickly at some point in a month on a shitty meal out or other junk.

      • -2

why are people overreacting to a loophole shutdown?

As you deemed my comment worthy of a reply, I assume you think I'm over-reacting.
I'm not sure how, but sure, lets discuss.

At $23/month (is it really that much?), I see no value these days in keeping an ongoing Netflix subscription, just like I see no value in keeping an ongoing subscription for anything other streaming service aside from Kayo (and that's a shared account).
I can easily burn through a whole year's worth of Netflix series that I care about across maybe 2 months.
Why would I pay for 12? There are no "water-cooler" moments talking about last night's episode anymore, and I was never one to get upset about spoilers anyway, so I have no FOMO in waiting a few months to watch a talked about series.
My kids are disappointed, but they'll find something else on whatever service I pay for in any particular month.

Finally, I don't envisage too many people who had the knowledge/capability to dodge the geo-charging just sucking up what amounts to be a 100+% price rise. They'll either move back to pirating, or put Netflix into a monthly rotation with all the other services.
Netflix will be the losers here, I expect, both revenue and subscriber numbers will go down which would be a really bad business move last time I checked.

In my case, end result for Netflix will be that they'll get ~$50/year from me instead of $72 ($6/mth x 12 months). I'm actually kinda happy about that… as stated originally, I only kept Netflix Turkey on cause it was mildly annoying to set back up. It was always on the chopping block, now Netflix themselves have brought down the axe!
Meanwhile, I finally get to watch Masters of the Air for free!

        • +1

Didn't think overreacting, more of a general observation. It's still not a big amount of money considering all the carry-on vs other costs of living. NIce to do away with anything you don't need though.

For sure, there are plenty of options - people are free to do whatever works. I'm also testing other options and have other services anyway. nothing wrong with activating and deactivating whenever you want during the year, it's just more effort to remember vs doing nothing. I'm all for not subscribing all year for the sake of it, just binge a few good shows etc once you have a few in the list.

Can't believe how much people are carrying on about it however, it was good whilst it lasted. Turkey is only half the price now, but people could tolerate all those price increases but it's not exactly cheap anymore.

The kodi IPTV stuff is good for the FTA catchup add-ons too, without ads. Also fun to setup if you like to tinker.

          • @G-rig:

just more effort to remember vs doing nothing

            Not really
            Step 1 - sign up
Step 2 - navigate directly to the account settings and cancel

No need to remember. They always send you a reminder that your service will expire before it does so if you want to extend another month.

Turkey is only half the price now, but people could tolerate all those price increases but it's not exactly cheap anymore.

Hence why it was on my chopping block. I downgraded to the 720p service and it was still at that tipping point of utility/value at Turkish pricing! Back when it was ~$2/month for 1080p it was a no brainer though.

The kodi IPTV stuff is good for the FTA catchup add-ons too, without ads. Also fun to setup if you like to tinker.

            Oh really? Good to know.

              • @G-rig: Nah, I'm not paying to Pirate. If I'm going to Pirate I'll do it for free.
I'm happy to pay for the convenience factor and to put money towards content creation.

        • "I assume you think I'm over-reacting."

You assumed incorrectly, I don't think you're overreacting at all.

I was referring to the vast majority of others who ragequit and pursue sailing the high seas.

And it's true Netflix themselves brought down the axe, and why I commented that Netflix will want to attract customers with cheapish 'peanut plans' and claw back some marketshare.

      • The problem is I dont use it everyday. I might watch (binge) one or 2 shows for a day or two. So $23 a month is steep.

        • I tend to agree and in my case, Netflix lost some $$ from a person who rarely used their services. Pity they didnt just charge by the hour : -)

I only subscribed as it was originally cheap and for the fun factor. Turkey was getting expensive hence switched to Nigeria (which lasted a few days). Will just grab the few things of interest elsewhere now or not worry about them at all. I don't believe I am alone in this regard.

  • +2

    RIP my Netflix subscription 😢

  • +10

I don't mind them removing my way of paying, but to take the money then not give you the service is pretty low.

    • Agreed, but luckily my Amex chargeback straight away

      • +2

You have been paying a 3% currency conversion fee for amex?

        • Still cheaper than $22 anyway

        • Just login to my Amex with web browser, and you can select the transaction and choose chargeback.

  • Turkish Netflix got cancelled on Saturday. Resubbed to India on the same day but now cancelled today.

They won’t even issue me a refund and have to file a dispute instead! Keep making up excuses such as the bank denied the refund etc.

Might just wait it out then try resub to India again. Otherwise, that’s the end of Netflix for me. Was a good solid 4ish years.

    • Happened to me too.

I'm wondering if it would be better to go back to Turkey using gift cards.

      • I’m thinking the same too but others on this thread are saying that it’s geolocked if using gift cards? I’m not sure. Might test it out anyways. Either that or I’ll try out other countries.

        • Its only geo-locked for the first ~30 days. After that you won't need to be connected to Turkey via VPN

        • Keen to hear how you go. I've got free Apple TV+ for another 2 weeks so will hold off until then.

    • Are thy cancelling India sub as well? Mine is still working

      • Yep, they cancelled my Indian sub too. In the midst of getting my money back via bank dispute because I only subbed for 2 days before they cancelled.

Real pain that they won’t refund me even though I was being that difficult customer via online chat.

  • +3

CommBank just ruled in my favour with my charge back request. No request for any extra info.

    • +2

It will cost more to investigate than to just give you $11 back

    • +2

Same as Amex. Said will process the refund, then they will deal with Netflix in the background. No extra info asked.

    • I have to say the banking in Aus is really crappy. Back in South Africa you hvae 48h to reverse any transaction. Yiu don't need to give proof or anything. Its your account and your money and if you had to pay something its now your problem. Everything is so micro managed.
