Netflix Turkey Membership Cancelled on 24/02/2024 - Are You Also Affected? Vote on Poll

Hi all, a lot of people in the netflix turkey thread is saying their membership has been cancelled but did not specific the payment type.

I am trying to determine what the criteria of membership cancellation is, please vote only if you are on Netflix Turkey

Error if your membership is cancelled

Sorry this account is no longer active. Please sign up again or sign in to a different account.”

EDIT: Official "story" provided by netflix:

As per checking To protect members against unauthorized charges, we sometimes cancel accounts that show signs of unusual activity. It looks like your account was canceled for this reason.

They will even recommend you dispute charge via your card company to get a refund as they did not provide you with the service you paid for. So everyone go and get your money back and then buy Turkey Gift Cards ahaha Personally I recommend turgame 200TL gift cards if you order after 5pm they will arrive pretty fast.

    • indian account got deactivated today too. bleh. no risk, no reward.

    • Thanks, HSBC Global Debit card works
doesnt even prompt to verify indian phone number

  • Mine was working yesterday and has been for the past year or so - today now not working
Won't re-sub on rip off AU prices. Will wait for another cheap workaround to become available. Until then, realdebrid it is

  • +2

Yep impacted. Hmm not sure which path to take, but AUD prices are very high and hard to stomach for the amount of use I make of the service

  • +11

Don't reward these bastards by re-subscribing, they need to take a subscriber hit for this, that's the only way they'll learn. $10 a month or $0.. they chose $0.

    • +2

Netflix AU made over $1 billion last year. Unfortunately, I don't think a group of a few thousand people on OzBargain not resubscribing is going to bother them.

    • +3

Yeh. Show them the power 883 ozbargainers

      • Unfortunately even if 40% of the turkish ozbargainers re-sign up to Aussie prices they will break even. We need 0% of ozb peeps to sign up to aussie prices for them to feel anything.

  • -2

Time to return to Australia now.

    • -2

“couldn't cut it as a poor man stealing”?

  • +8

I’ve used it for years. Not paying $23 for it. Netflix will now get $0. Back to the high seas.

  • Anyone have thoughts on the AGL Netflix plan?
    https://www.agl.com.au/residential/energy/netflix-plan

    • +1

Yeah, It's only a Netflix with Ads $84 annual promo. Hardly a deal unless by chance they happen to be the cheapest for your specific energy costs. Then it's something for nothing.

  • +3

Looks like PirateBay is the way to go

  • +3

Lost mine, finally gave me the kick in the pants that I needed to execute on the Stremio + Real Debrid solution. Sucks for the family that were sharing the account, but so far the Stremio solution seems to be even easier and cheaper, and better picture quality than the Netflix solution, so I'm happy.

Nice try Netflix, but I think you're gonna feel this one, based on the comments here and in other overseas forums like RedFlagDeals.

  • +8

Farewell Netflix ya bunch of greedy C***ts

Time to sail the high seas again!

  • +2

    Stremio + torrentio + Realdebrid

  • so sorry guys……i think it was me who caused this, i updated my card details last night on online chat because Citibank was ending and transferred to nab bank, i unsuccessfully tried with 28 degree on chat and then reattempted on witht he nab card which worked but had no money so was rejected, waited a week until yesterday to reattempt online with money int he card, successful. watched rebel moon last night and decided it wasnt worth watching until the end, and now no turkey Netflix =(. Im so sorry everyone, they must of honned down on all au number accounts or something

    • +1

I doubt that. My account got cancelled too. Just paid them like 2 weeks ago with citi bank card. I guess I will need to do a charge back but not sure how as all past transactions had disappeared from citi and not showing in NAB.

    • +2

Don't lose sleep over it. I doubt it was one particular user that caused this.

    • +1

      Ha wasn't you.

Netflix are a bit more clever now (finally lol).

    • Nah, I got a msg to update payment details a week ago though my cc is valid for a few more years and the got canx.

  • +10

2024 The year of losing cheap online subs.

I will 1000% not be paying for Netflix AUD prices.

    • What other subs have been affected?

  • +1

I must have been one of the lucky ones. I was still being charged off an expired AMEX (card expired in October last year, and I hadn't needed to update it). The last payment was taken early in the month so I only missed out on less than a week of my subscription. I'd dropped back to the Basic subscription anyway and the fee had gone up so wasn't that much of a saving from the Netflix AU with ads. Was also thinking of cancelling anyway so this just made the decision for me.

    • The last time my card expired a year ago, it would not accept the new card, so I have up. Well to my surprise I accidently open the app on the TV about 10 days later it was suddenly working again with the new card.

I must've been using turkeys since 2021, good value.

  • +2

time to re try Apple TV when it’s free now

  • To make matters worse, I renewed and now family members are getting stopped from watching and Netflix wants $30.99

      • I've considered this too, I think the limit is still 4 devices at once though.

      • Can't share the account, different household. Turkish account I had no dramas sharing it.

      • -1

        $22 + $7 +7 even divide by 3 is ~12 each a month for 3 people, 50c more than turkey.

This logic is flawed and only works for people paying for 4 profiles, 4k premium and only using it for themselves.

It is not 50c more than turkey because turkey for $12 you can get 4 profiles, no account lock, 4k premium for a month.

By your logic for 3 people on turkey is less than $4 per person. Paying ~$12 each month per person is $8 more or paying 3x more.

        • It's fine and then comment was regarding single users that want 4k. Not everyone has a household with 4 streams going at once.

But yes $12 is still too much for some people (buy $11.50 fine via Turk).

Your logic is flawed because turkey isn't an option.

  • +1

It's a good time to get reacquainted with sailing the high seas.

    • -2

      2008 called!

  • I've was on Netflix Argentina/Turkey for probably 4-5 years now. I guess I'll wait to see if the gift card payment method holds up otherwise not sure what I'll do since AUS Netflix is cracking down on multiple households and currently the account is being shared across 3 houses.

This guide was really helpful in setting up Stremio + Torrentio + Real Debrid.

    • If only there was a stremio app on smart tvs so don’t have to cast

      • +2

There is - get a Google CCwGTV

        • So you have to stream it from your phone with Google CCwGTV method right?

          • @JHoliday: I just checked my Google TV via Chromecast and it has the Stremio app on there

      • AndroidTV has a Stremio app.

    • Thanks @Vague , all done in 10 minutes…

      • Gave it a go… the buffering sucked…

        • +2

do you have a RD account?

          • +1

            @JuryWheel: RD makes a whole lot difference, cost $26 for 6 months! That's like AUD4.33 / month!

        • Try it with RD for a month and focus on content cached on the RD network.

          • @sween64: I do have a RD account. set that up as per the instructions.

          • @sween64: How do you do that?

            • @kfp187: The results that are "RD+" are already cached on the RD servers. "RD Download" are not cached.

    • Just set one up, and plus the Cyberflix catalog, I am more than happy to stop subbing to Netflix now. It has been a good 5 years run Turkey Netflix.

  • -7

Sad days, but Australian Netflix with ads it’s only $7 and the ads are not that bad.

    • +2

I really dont want to encourage ads on streaming services out of principle but it's mostly the kids who watch Netflix and kids profiles don't get ads, so this might be our best option.

    • I wish they had a 4k with ads option

      • SAME!

      • +4

I find that downloading 4k Atmos shows and movies are far superior quality. Streaming services are always reducing the quality.

          • +4

@G-rig: Its well understood that streaming resources suffer from exaggerated compression, which effects audio and even visualization quality.
The Atmos/HDR/4K signal is sent to your devices, but they're not always the best they can be.
For convenience its good, but since internet is fast these days and quality torrents are easy to find within a minute, I personally cannot justify paying anything more than a SD Netflix account since netflix are stopping accounts now.

As for evidence, Louis Rossman is awesome for stuff like this. Definitely worth a watch.
            https://youtu.be/o4GZUCwVRLs?si=6HxjHB5duuq6xqb-

            • @Aliensf: Yeah depends what quality you are used to and if you're happy with SD. Probably fine for free to air and general crap.

Well aware of AV codecs and compression. People will also argue mp3s sound as good as CD as well.

Anyway as you say internet is fast so can steam it easily. I'll have a look, I Doubt the would come out with streams that are half way between Dolby 5.1 and Atmos, it either is not isn't. I can usually tell the difference between 1080p and 4k (as well as the equipment confirming it) but appreciate some people can't, or don't care and/or don't want to pay for it. Nothing wrong with just saying that.

              • +1

                @G-rig:

I Doubt the would come out with streams that are half way between Dolby 5.1 and Atmos, it either is not isn't.

                They have.

There is TrueHD+Atmos and there is EAC3+Atmos

TrueHD is lossless, EAC3\DD+ is lossy.

Can you name a streaming service that is TrueHD + Atmos?

                  • @G-rig: Of course I can - particularly in my separate height and surround speakers, compression artefacts are obvious with lossy content.

Netflix is handy on a phone, or a dinky little tv and sound bar, but when it’s being thrown on a wall and around the room, much greater quality can be found.

                    • @2024: Righto, good for you. What are height speakers?

I was actually all for 4k HDR and Atmos btw and this setup is more than good enough for TVs and movies (don't care for AV receivers and all that stuff for over 15y, but care more about music). Sounds like you take your movies very seriously if 4k ultra HD and Atmos isn't good enough.

There is no quality control on downloading from torrents and you'll just end up getting 1080p most of the time. Sounds like you should buy Blu-rays

        • Do you mean downloaded 4k atmos from "other" sources?

I was doing that all the time on my home theatre setup and found the audio quality are poor compared to the streaming services. The rippers focus on video quality and the audio are heavily compressed.

          • @elvislj: Exactly, they don't care about audio streams, you'd be lucky to get 5.1. easiest just streaming on the top quality these days, it's come a long way.

            • @G-rig: If I were to look online for an alternate source no doubt it would be limited to private trackers that follow the scene rules, and the magic catch phrase might be remux…

Oh and height=ceiling speakers eg the .4 in 7.1.4 surround setups

              • @2024: Yeh used to rip Blu-rays and all that, don't care for much AV these days.

                Cool sounds fun.

                • @G-rig: Yeah it is, when the in home experience is in many ways better than the local cinema, it is quite fun.

                  • @2024: I know mate have had all that stuff in the past.
Would be a good project if you have a dedicated room but I can't be bothered with any of that (or car Audio).

Room treatment is still interesting, and it probably makes the biggest difference once you get into it as you know.

    • I signed up to Morocco Netflix $14 for premium, better than paying the Australian premium.

  • I wonder if they know that 80% of people they've cancelled won't resub, because there's actually 0 value on there for the stupid prices they charge here in AUS…

    • +1

They know and they don’t care given they earned over $1b revenue in Australia alone from legitimate users. They rather not have you pay at all if you’re not going to pay AUD

    • +5

This is what everyone said when they cut of account sharing, then they ended up with more subscribers than before.

      • Initially, yes.

Over time, with this high inflation and high costs for everything, let’s see.

I know where I would be saving if I had to. :)

  • Im pretty sure i had a fair bit of credit on my gift cards before my plan was axed so im out of pocket a bit. Definetly wont be resigning up if this is the case …

I take that back, seems my gift cards had been used and it had reverted to card payments which is funny as I couldn't get card to work in the first place…

  • Did everyone else member status reset on their account?

It used to show member since 2019 on my account now says joined February 2024 on netflix account page.

  • +10

I got hit overnight as well after many good years of cheap, foreign Netflix.

Time it took me to work out what happened and check here: 5 mins.

Time it took me to download the next episode of Drive to Survive to my Plex Server and start watching it: 3 mins.

Adieu and all the best Netflix.

  • Considering I only watch 1 show and maybe an movie or doc a month I cannot justify 23.99
Kids too young to make use.

Just wish I could still cycle through the shows to know how to navigate my way on the high seas.
Anyone know if there's a good site that has this info or has a short synopsis on new releases?

  • -7

Not sure why a refund would be expected for fraudulent sign ups, or is reality not something we talk about here? ;)

    • +2

      I don't understand it either.

    • Go eat a succulent Chinese meal and think long and hard about what you just said

    From Reddit
    https://www.reddit.com/r/NetflixViaVPN/comments/1ayj76q/netf…

They hate when you get a subscription in a cheaper country and will cancel your account, yet they will outsource employment in countries where salary is 1% of the country compared to where Netflix is stationed.

They list their HQ in a country with the lowest taxes and get their employees from countries with the lowest wages. When you live in Germany and have a Turkish account, getting a call service agent living in the Philipenes is pure hypocrisy.

    That's the irony.

    • +10

That post is by me, posted on OzB first then on Reddit.

The days prior it was The Netherlands crack down, and today it is Ireland. And yes the irony with them paying customer service agents in third world countries to get around paying western wages.

    • +2

I wanted to make the same comment. All these companies that bill via other countries to not pay taxes in local jurisdictions and not hire locals, yet they all shocked pikachu when we do it.

      • +1

Of course. They are not running a charity or providing an essential service. Their sole and ONLY objective in creating and running Netflix is to make as much money as possible.

    • +2

Almost every successful company will have no issues being hypocritical if it means more money to them. At the end of the day the only reason 95% of companies exist is to make money for their owners and shareholders.

      • -3

        Capitalism sucks, lets embrace communism.

        • Same issue. Except the money that the state owned companies make go to the crony at the top of the government rather than company shareholders

  • is the indian netflix still working or is it being cancelled after 7 days tooo?

    • If it is, I daresay it'll be on the chopping block soon enough. Looks to be a global Netflix crackdown in action.

  • A friend who buys subscription using netflix gift cards from Turgame, still has his membership. May be that would be the way to go

    • Until they work it out and that stops. Eventually all methods will be found out. Just a matter of time.

      • I think the reason gift cards still works is because they have no way to refund cancelled accounts, which can be an issue in legal side of things.

        • +2

Doubt it. They aren't refunding CC pro-rata either, instead asking people to initiate a chargeback

          • @cute as duck: Well, chargeback is better if it goes through, I got my full month worth of refund even though I started a fortnight ago. Which I found it hilarious, they prefer us to take all the money back instead of let us finish the current month and restart a subscription afterwards.

  • +1

what's the go if you have a sub in 1 country & then add an extra paid member to the account who would access in another country? Is this possible no VPN etc

    • No, look at their site FAQ.

      Add an extra member
Account owners on a Standard or Premium plan in many countries can share Netflix with someone who doesn't live with them by adding an extra member to their account.

The account owner will need to purchase an extra member slot, then invite an extra member to use the extra member slot.

The extra member must be activated in the same country where the account owner created their account.

Extra members cannot be added to Netflix-included packages or third-party billed accounts.

Extra members cannot be added to ad-supported plans.

      • ah ok thanks
