Netflix Turkey Membership Cancelled on 24/02/2024 - Are You Also Affected? Vote on Poll

Hi all, a lot of people in the netflix turkey thread is saying their membership has been cancelled but did not specific the payment type.

I am trying to determine what the criteria of membership cancellation is, please vote only if you are on Netflix Turkey

Error if your membership is cancelled

Sorry this account is no longer active. Please sign up again or sign in to a different account.”

EDIT: Official "story" provided by netflix:

As per checking To protect members against unauthorized charges, we sometimes cancel accounts that show signs of unusual activity. It looks like your account was canceled for this reason.

They will even recommend you dispute charge via your card company to get a refund as they did not provide you with the service you paid for. So everyone go and get your money back and then buy Turkey Gift Cards ahaha Personally I recommend turgame 200TL gift cards if you order after 5pm they will arrive pretty fast.

Submitted my transaction dispute to the bank.

Man, even with Turkey prices I felt ripped off. Theres barely any quality content on there. Good luck getting me to sign up at $23 a month

    • lol why did you keep paying Turkey prices then if it was a ripoff??!

      • +4

Well you know how it is, you keep the sub going just for a series here and there

  • +3

Sigh back to the high seas like the good old days. Was a member of Turkey Netflix since Oct 2019. Always feared this day would come one day but still sucks. No chance I will be paying aussie prices.

You wanna play me like that? Fine.

I tried resubscribing and stopped at the mobile phone verification step. It's over for me too.

    • Me too!

    • +7

      ^Ummmm…. who's gonna tell him?

      • +2

        LOL

      • I'm aware of the crack down mate but do you seriously think that your devices are assigned the SAME IP address when you travel around the country? How many local accounts have been cancelled for password sharing?

        • It’s about consistency. If Netflix detects the same 4 IP addresses keep logging in to the same account at the same time consistently - that would be a red flag it’s not just the account owner travelling around the country.

          • @illusion99: Just wondering, was that the same issue on Turkish accounts? Because I was sharing with few people and never had issues

            • +2

@Pricebeat: They hadn’t implemented it in Turkey yet. Mainly only the western richer countries. USA, Canada, Aus etc

          • +1

@illusion99: If you’re in the same household then the IP signing in will be the same (public) IP. They crack down on sharing for accounts that consistently login from different IPs.

        • Soon there will be VPN servers available where users can share their Netflix streaming service.

As long as all users connect via the same VPN server (IP), then Netflix will not block anything.

Or ppl can host their own virtual server in cloud and run some cheap openVPN or wireguard as part of their setup.

Not for the faint hearted but may contact my friends to set something up for them.

Ppl just need to be more creative now :)

          • @ahara: It's too risky, one guy forgot to turn on his VPN then account is gone.

            • @luminair: Need to set it up on router level based on DNS domain resolution. If you trust the other ppl/friends, it’s all good.

But agree, not for the faint hearted. Payment would also have to be via GC each month.

A bit of trouble, yes, but ozbargainers have been arguing about 30 cent cones etc. Ppl have different expectations where to save money.

          • @ahara: That's a lot of effort. just use Stremio and Real Debrid.

    • Netflix are cracking down on password sharing using IP logins to determine if ppl are logging consistently outside their home. Gamble whether it will work for you or not

      • What if someone shares an account with their sibling, and their sibling often goes and stays at their partner's place and logs in there with their password? That seems totally unfair to get banned because of that. I guess watching on your device and casting to a TV would be the only way to not get flagged?

        • You were breaking their ToS with sharing your account. The rest is just detail.

          • @Gareth: Before the password sharing block was implemented? I've never had Netflix before, I'm asking because I actually don't know how it works.

        • +1

Does that someone and sibling have the same household address/IP? If they do then it doesn't matter as long as the sibling use netflix at the household IP address at least once every 30 days.

          • @CodeXD: Thanks, that was the answer I was after.

  • +3

BTW if you call the 1800 950 726 number, they can refund you for last month's charge. I just did that and they processed a pro rata refund for me.

    • This did not work for me, they gave me the same response as the online chat did about contacting the bank.

      • +1

Netflix are going to get their merchant account blocked or hampered at this rate…

Hundreds or thousands of chargebacks put them into the high fraud bucket. Maybe their merchant facilities can absorb the overhead, or it's built into their pricing. It's a PITA for the banks to go through the chargeback process (without automation). Some bank systems are going to block payments to netflix…

You are going to run into edge cases where you complain to both, Bank refunds (and threatens to charge you for mistaken charge backs), netflix refunds, you come out ahead (happened to me when my card was skimmed, hotel refunded, plus bank refunded)…

    • Nah to pro rata. I'm going the full month's refund. Plus that's what they told me to do in chat

  • Had the same thing happen to me. Can you reactivate the account with AU prices? Want to continue the service till I figure out what to do and don’t want to lose access to recommendations and watch history

    • Yes, you certainly can. I just did as well until an alternative cheaper option comes up.

      • -1

Thanks, just did that and it worked.

  • +1

Another cancellation without warning. I was getting pretty close to cancelling myself with all the recent Turkish price increases so I guess Netflix has saved me a decision and some money. Now i just need to work out how to initiate a chargeback with my latitude credit card.

  • Netflix Argentina ends as well. FML

    • Sounds like a global crackdown then. Did you paid with cc for Netflix Argentina?

      • Mine got canned and was using a debit card

  • +1

Mine stopped working in last Saturday and started asking for payment details even though it had expiry till 17 March based on the TL credits in there. I bought another G2A card, topped up and the message went away.

    • +1

Let us know if it boots you out after a while

  • Well Nigeria netflix still working.

  • Only had one account, Turkish with CC, not using VPN - cancelled. Tried live chat, wouldn't give refund, so doing a dispute. If you really want a refund without the fuss, ring up the 1800 number.

  • Like all of you guys my Turkey kick me out today as well. I rang the 1800 number, the rep said they have refund me the money which I paid on the 20th Feb.

Oh well fun while we had it. I will not pay full price since we cannot share password.

  • Same here, account blocked using Wise credit card. Have issued a refund request from. Wise as I only paid on the 13th of Feb for the next month.

Very surprised they are happy to email about a price rose but not for force closing my account

  • +2

I was binge watching a kdrama this morning, and got home to a sign up screen. Not sure how to proceed here, as there's no way it's worth the $20+ per month…

    • You can pay the AU prices, stop watching your kdrama or download it from your favourite torrent/usenet site

  • +3

cancelled on card thats a wrap for me and netflix back to the seas for me with their shows on a nicely setup plex
their whole thing of just charging ppl then pulling the plug is some BS and they should have their ass handed to them for it
    Avatar The Last Airbender 2024 S01 1080p NF WEB-DL DDP5 1 Atmos H 264-NoTrollsNoOffTopic thanks netflix

  • +3

Well I'm already using Real Debrid, so I guess I'll just pocket the ~$10pm and watch the same shows anyway. Netflix is kinda doing me a favour.

    • Same here. It's a lot easier this way managing less apps

    • RD + Stremio for me

  • I bought Turkey Netflix gift cards to restart my membership. Netflix only works with VPN now.

    • (hopefully) should fix itself after 30 days…

  • Netflix customer service said use a different card when restarting membership. Has anyone tried that?

    • I tried to but it kept asking for a turkey number so i just used gift cards

      • Local gift card or from Turkey please? Its working without a VPN now?

      • Do you need vpn for it to work?

        • My VPN was on when I restarted my membership, and still need my VPN to watch anything.

      • I got a gift card for turgame but it keeps in telling me invalid code. How did you get it to work?

  • If I restart membership with gift cards will it work without vpn if watching on my tv?

    • After 30 day lock out hopefully

  • I had originally set it up through credit card which would get declined so went to the gift card route which had worked for maybe 6 months? Then I had noticed the last few months the credit card method had randomly started working and I didn't have to renew with gift cards but it looks like its all over today.

  • I'm tempted to try signing up again but would hate to be instantly cancelled or locked out.

  • +1

    I am also in the same boat. I spoke to a Netflix Supervisor and asked why they didn't email about this they said;

"That's for security purposes as well, our system are only allowed to sent out email notification on the email address link on the account and our system dont have the capability to know if the owner of the email address link on the account is really the owner of the account, so instead of sending it out to the email address link on the account that is the link to the account owner, we just wait for the account owner to contact us and discuss this."

    I asked what I should say to my bank;

"All you have to do is to tell your bank that your account was cancelled because of detected suspicious activity and file a claim for refund, you may also tell them that you have reached us out and you were told to contact them."

    And why did this happen;

"To be honest you, I dont have the context what could be the reason why this happened, but when our system detect any suspicious activity, to protect and for security of our subscribers, our system cancel the account automatically to stop those suspicious activity that may further harm our subscribers."

  • Would like to try the GC path but what happened to the credit left if my account gets locked out?

    • Gone for sure

  • +1

I am also no longer a netflix customer but I hope that everyone does chargebacks - the higher number who do the bigger the problem the banks will see with netflix.

    • +2

Banks look at consistent chargebacks over time before deciding to penalize merchants. A one off increase in the number of chargebacks won’t mean anything.

  • +2

Can't be arsed setting up a GC and jumping through hoops. Not enough decent content on Netflix anymore to justify keeping it. Might dip back in for a on month binge if they bank up enough decent new content, but in all likelihood I'm going back to the high seas. Too many subscriptions these days and too many subscription hikes. I'm out.

  • Interesting to see that the cheapest Australian plan is the $6.99 one with ad, which is slightly cheaper than the Turkey one I was paying for. Tempted to re-start with that, but ad will ruin the experience.
Wonder if this is a global crackdown too.

    • You can try get an ad blocker on PC?

  • +2

i just signed up to netflix india using a vpn and it worked.

    Edit: using a NAB cc

    • Do you need to keep vpn on while watching?

      • I just tested and it works without vpn

        • Got kicked out today lol. Good thing I only purchased the cheapest plan

    • How long has it been going? And how much is it in AUD?

      • +1

$12 aud for the top membership

        • Do report if you get kicked out. Will let the commotion die down before attempting anything

    • +1

Won't work long I bet, looks like it's a global crackdown, smart to just leave them here and now.

    • Which vpn did you use?

  • +4

After a couple of years of Netflix through Turkey 🇹🇷, I was happy paying under $10 pm for 4K but not a chance at $23 AUS.
Nothing decent on there anywhere these days, when they do I’ll be getting it from the high seas! 🌊
I have permanently closed my account & I suggest everyone else does the same! Bye Bye GREEDYFLIX

    • +7

Pretty sure Netflix couldn’t care less about losing every single ozbargainer’s $10 a month given they earned over $1b in revenue from legitimate Australian subscribers in 2023.

      • +1

they may not care but it was worldwide people using the turkey exploit so would be interesting to see how many subscribers they actually cancelled / lose though I'm sure Netflix know the stats when they made the decision

  • Dang its over. Where we off to fellas

    • +1

Ah hoy me hearty, off to the high seas of course

  • Also got the can today after a number of years in Turkey. Sad. Tempted to give the $6.99 one with ads a go - seems like a real step down though from 4k though

    • +2

      Don't, teach them a lesson

      • Do teach them a lesson.

  • Same problem, tried updating my credit card and all it asked was a Turkey mobile number for verification. anyone else tried?

  • If some one in India sign up to India netflix and share their details with you, will it work here?

    • +1

I doubt it as this round cancellation was based on non portable device IP not the same as sign up country (“unusual activity “)
It might work for short time but will get cancelled eventually.

      • Why would the portability of the device matter? You can use VPNs on phones too.

        • +2

What he saying is phones can use VPN but even if they don't looks like they will be allowed as Netflix can think your travelling but if they see it on TVs in countries other than your signup it's a contender for cancellation.

  • Has anyone tried Pingme to get a temp Turkish phone number? I think someone mentioned it was $2.

    • +1

Did that at the start of the year to sign up again, now kick out of Turkey once again. Not worth it

  • +2

The only reason I didn't cancel Netflix TR subscription was because it was cheap, and it would be difficult to get it back. Now, I will only subscribe when there is something I want to watch, and that isn't often. Too bad for them…
