Netflix Turkey Membership Cancelled on 24/02/2024 - Are You Also Affected? Vote on Poll

Hi all, a lot of people in the netflix turkey thread is saying their membership has been cancelled but did not specific the payment type.

I am trying to determine what the criteria of membership cancellation is, please vote only if you are on Netflix Turkey

Error if your membership is cancelled

Sorry this account is no longer active. Please sign up again or sign in to a different account.”

EDIT: Official "story" provided by netflix:

As per checking To protect members against unauthorized charges, we sometimes cancel accounts that show signs of unusual activity. It looks like your account was canceled for this reason.

They will even recommend you dispute charge via your card company to get a refund as they did not provide you with the service you paid for. So everyone go and get your money back and then buy Turkey Gift Cards ahaha Personally I recommend turgame 200TL gift cards if you order after 5pm they will arrive pretty fast.

        • I think if the other country person added, paid and gave you the login then maybe (but why would they) but says you need your own login and they would see the IP is in another country eventually, and stuff using a VPN every time you want to watch somethingn(although not that hard and could be worth a go if you know someone in India etc).

    • Just get that extra person to VPN to your “home” router and you’ll be fine. Or use a VPN from the same country permanently.

  • If I move to India can I still share with people in different households?

  • well boys it was fun while it lasted, time to downgrade from 4k to the ad tier plan. Ironically I will pay less now, I suppose now we just look for netflix gift cards on sale?

You instead invest 30 minutes to get Stremio and Real Debrid up and running.

      • +1

Its really a completely different proposition…

      • Does it have F1 stream as an option? And are the 4k streams also hdr?

        • Depends which torrent you choose regarding 4k n hdr. Dunno what you mean by F1 stream… For a family Stremio is not ideal, no profiles, without real debrid you will have buffering issues every now and then depending on the video size, seeded, bandwidth etc etc… , no chance of my wife and kids figuring out what to do when it randomly logs you out, restarting a playback is inconsistent, possibly need VPN to hide your traffic which is not as easy when majority use TV's to watch… I'm trying it now and it's completely fine for me but I'm in IT and been doing this type of stuff for 25 years, for anyone else ease of Netflix/insert other streaming service is unfortunately incomparable…

Also keep in mind real debrid is made to be used from home (when multiple watch at the same time) you try and use it out and about with IPs changing and more than one person on it at the same time expect to get a warning.

I'll give stremio a try and see how bad backslash is.. I expect I'll be hounded to get Netflix back fairly soon hahaha

            • @G-rig: Lol yep I'm expecting it … Once I'm over being annoyed at the pricing here in Aus I'll look into Netflix again .. for now I'll sell stremio as something they can watch more than just Netflix on… But it'll only take a couple of bad experiences for that to get thrown out 🤣

I didn't neg but I'm guessing the comment about not having one streaming service wasn't taken well hehe

                • @G-rig: Hose of Ninjas? Sounds like a porno

  • Just a thought but my account is still active in Turkey. I had issues with my 28D at some point in the past so had switched payment to Macquarie debit.

Not sure if this is why it's still going.

    • I had Macquarie and gone

  • india not even accepting new sign on's — first vpn blocked, unable to load web/app — diff vpn loads but tried 20x email variations (gmail/hotmail/yahoo etc), just says "error processing your request" — tried logging in with Turkish account, keeps saying password incorrect (it's not — I can log in without vpn).

    • Password incorrect you fix that by logging in from Netflix AU then switch your VPN on to India or Turkey and it works again.

    • +6

Two points- it's not much of a hassle (subjective) and secondly, I'd guess the vast majority are financially way ahead even if they lost a whole month's payment.

When you say “may work for a while” it worked for me for over 5 years so….

    • What waste of money?

I saved over $1200 since 2019 buying cheap subs on Netflix. And now if I so chose to, could resub again with Oz. Account isn't cancelled, only the monthly sub is. $8 lost, ultimately saved ~+$1192

  • Managed to resub with a GC from https://www.g2a.com/netflix-gift-card-200-tl-netflix-key-tur….

    But now region locked…

    • what do you mean by region locked?

      • Need to be on Turkey VPN to watch Netflix otherwise you'll get a location error

    • If you have an Apple TV you can download a vpn app and then watch Turkish Netflix via Apple tv

  • anyone able to sign into their turkey account when vpn is turkey?

I cannot and it tells me to enter a valid email address, i just wanna make sure the CC has been removed.

  • can anyone get Egypt to work>? mobile confirmation required
Anz/suncorp payments accepted just need the mobile confirmation to pass through

    • How did you get it to work? Which VPN did you use to get payments accepted?

      • urban vpn works just fine upto the payment method

  • +1

As good as it was for all these years, I feel like this is a blessing in disguise. The amount I was paying was slowly increasing and the amount I've been watching was slowly decreasing. I mainly used it for the odd movie and kids stuff.

I should thank netflix, after my charge back goes through of course.

  • +1

    Saved $11 a month. Whatever

  • Too many comments to read.
Not sure if OP can update post with info from people attempting refund.
I contacted via chat. Lovely female advised no refund and to contact credit card company.
She emailed me our text conversation. So I’m going to submit dispute- and evidence her reply for refund.
    Will update with outcome.

    • Hey sorry, been having notification issues on ozb.

I've updated the description and advised everyone to dispute charge with credit card company.

    • Can you share the chat for all of us.

  • Meant to cancel Netflix some time ago anyway …whatevs

  • time to move to nigeria?

  • No issues, pay with gift cards

  • happened to me as well with gift cards just now :(

    • How many months had you paid in advance, if any?

  • Was good while it lasted

  • Cancelled, no warning, CC. I've been meaning to cancel for ages, the service is really poor now, we haven't watched anything on netflix for ages. Won't miss it. Shooting themselves in the foot IMHO.

    • -3

Yes instead of earning $34b globally they will now earn only 33.99999b.

  • +2

Bummer this little loophole got cancelled. I’m probably in the minority here, but I really like Netflix. Bit the bullet and re-signed up under an Australian plan.

    • Despite what the brains trust on here would have you believe this is exactly what most will do. These are the same clowns that have been screaming "HODL" every time someone says they want a new GPU cos they're convinced that Nvidia will come crawling back begging them to buy gpus at a lower price, meanwhile NVIDIA earnings & stock have gone stratospheric.

      • Maybe some, definitely not all. I know i wont be paying $23 a month for it, thats for sure. So easy to get content in other methods anyway.

Hopefully this episode spurs renewed interest in physical media ownership and the value of tangible property rights

Stremio + Real Debrid and you'll never go back.

    • This deal expired?

      • No. It's not a deal. Google it.

    • I set this up last night, highly recommended.
This will be replacing all my streaming services.

      • Got a link to a tutorial?
        looks great!

        • +1

Can send you a PM, I'm not sure I'm allowed to post it here.
But if you google Stremio Real Debrid it shouldn't be too hard to find.

          • @caspochek: All good, worked it out. damn was easy!
slightly concerned over safety/privacy etc. but oh well

        • I'd assume one would use a disposable email address and not your actual day to day one!

    • Yeah but you either need an Android TV or a chrome cast of some sort…
Pretty annoying when you have an oled/recent TV tbh.

      • You can get a FireTV for $50. That isn't expensive.

        • It isn't but having to use another interface, remote… It's not ideal.

          • @ValouSydney: My FireTV works with my TV remote, so I don't need to use two remotes, but yes, the interface you need to get used to.

      • +1

        Samsung TV has streamio

      • CCw Google TV fixes that easily, and you'll have a much better experience :).

Looking at it now - not because I'm too cheap to pay for NF but as I don't mind a tinker..
I can't vouch for how secure it is, could be opening yourself up for trouble, however hopefully ok (i've got an adblocker and firewall at the router level).

The Real-Debrid Account doesn't seem free however. They really need to offer a trial so at least you know it works (to your satisfaction).
Smallish spend for testing it out for a while though, will see what is recommended.

        • RD is cheap to try for a month. Stremio is terrible without a paid service.

          • @sween64: yeah wouldn't be worth setting up any of it without that.
So trial the Economic or Speed?

I've still got Prime (watching more on that lately), Disney (from a fam mem), Stan (but that may go as i swapped NF), YTP, access to Kayo.
            bit light on now :P

    • I just tried it, and you are right. I don't think I am coming back…

    • Is that like Kodi?

      • +1

Yes but way better and somewhat easier

        • Awesome

          Will look into it

  • well i reactivated my account via india…lets see how long it works.

    • Is Netflix India working for you mate ??

      • My netflix india stopped working now. Account no longer active. Was fine a few hours ago.

        • When did you sign up? And did you watch using Smart TV or portable devices?

          • @firestint: Signed up 2 days ago. Was using my smart tv to watch. Worked fine this morning then tried again this arvo and it no longers works

            • @asian bargain hunter: thanks for replying. Might be due to using smart tv to watch in Australia as mentioned here.

I've just signed up to Netflix India, guess I will cast from my smart phone to TV to watch moving forward to be safe.

              • @firestint: Will u have your vpn on or just use using australian IP address. Let us know how you are going with it and if it still works after a week

                • @asian bargain hunter: Planning to cast from my mobile phone to TV, without VPN on, to bypass the restriction on watching Netflix on non portable devices outside of original country. Will report back.

                  • @firestint: No luck watching on a phone too - was with Netflix Turkey previously for a couple of years, account cancelled on 26th Feb and on the same day I signed up for Netflix India Premium and paid via Revolut (about $12). Didn't login to any smart TVs, only my laptop and Android phone. All fine I thought, didn't watch anything until just now on my mobile phone for about 30 mins. Account immediately cancelled after an hour or so when I wanted to continue watching.

Netflix is cracking down really hard.

How do I get a refund if my Citibank card transferred to nab on the exact same day…

    • dispute the transaction with nab…

  • +1

I’d struggle to get $20+ worth of value each month out of Netflix.

Think I’ll just go back to downloading the occasional show that I want to watch.

Goodbye Netflix. You were thrilling to begin with, then stale and boring by the end when finding a new show worth watching became a chore.

    • Same. I rarely watch Netflix more just nice to have. Well bye Netflix then.

  • +3

Well I'm happy to use plex instead but my partner really wants Netflix… So I had to re subscribed paying in AUD this time :/

  • +3

I unsubscribe to Netflix since they started cracking password sharing. In my opinion, I paid for a 4 screen simultaneous connection and I should decide how I will use them. I know this thing will going to happen so when unsubscribe I went full on PLEX only mode aside from my Amazon Prime which I keep as I primarily order stuff from Amazon.

My Turkey ADOBE subscription has been canned 2 weeks ago for the same reason as Netflix and I'm pretty sure Youtube Premium is going to follow suit.

Unraid server + Plex + Sonarr + Radarr works well if you are happy to download

    • +1

      Completely agree!

    • +4

I'd throw on prawlarr and overseerr as well. Ultimate suit of apps

Trakt list of top 10 TV shows and movies and you're set.

    • Can you recommend a good guide?
I was following steps on drfrankenstein but I got stuck and the technical jargon made me confused so I abandoned. So i had to revert the long way just download directly to my synology on my pc which is a bit cumbersome.

These are definitely like Morse code for most. Including me. 😜

    • +1

      plex is more user friendly

      • +1

Yeah should have pulled the trigger on plex pass lifetime last time. Never as cheap as it used to be though

        • plex pass is not worth it for me, don't use the extra features.

          • @shap08: I wouldn't mind it for access to own music outside home (Plex Amp)
Roon Arc would be the best setup but $$$

        • I got lifetime Plex pass for $75 usd back in 2013. Was a bit of a gamble at the time but well and truly paid off over the years. Credit to Plex that they haven’t tried to stiff those of us that got in early.

          • @bulletbill88: Yeah that's all ita worth.

Again, it's easiest just streaming Tidal for my music
needs, and they have hi-res FLAC now, but CD quality is a good minimum standard.

The cheap days of that are over too, was less than $2-3/m for a long time, now $15 TH.

  • So same here, but I’ve managed to get to the confirm account page…I need a Turkish mobile number. I’ve spent hours looking at virtual sms sites, but have got nowhere. Can someone please help and advise which should use?

    • Useless, I was able to buy a Turkish gift card and reopen my account but it's region locked. You need a VPN to watch it. Otherwise it works but it's a pain to use on most TV.

Also using a gift card you don't need a phone number, then you set up the secondary payment using a credit card and it automatically switched to it.

      • I’ve rejoined with gift card on vpn, but yes it wants a Turkish mobile number , this is where I’m stuck

        • You should be set, just close and reopen Netflix? The ask for a number should disappear
