Hi all, a lot of people in the netflix turkey thread is saying their membership has been cancelled but did not specific the payment type.

I am trying to determine what the criteria of membership cancellation is, please vote only if you are on Netflix Turkey

EDIT: Official "story" provided by netflix:

As per checking To protect members against unauthorized charges, we sometimes cancel accounts that show signs of unusual activity. It looks like your account was canceled for this reason.

They will even recommend you dispute charge via your card company to get a refund as they did not provide you with the service you paid for. So everyone go and get your money back and then buy Turkey Gift Cards ahaha Personally I recommend turgame 200TL gift cards if you order after 5pm they will arrive pretty fast.

    Not yet, but my subscription renewed on the 21st.
    Currently on the highest plan due to 4k, and as a single person household the Australian pricing doesn't make sense … especially after I looked how much Netflix I really watch.

    Prepared to go sailing the high seas.

    It's very rude for them to take payment then cancel without any warning or email. The only way I found out is couldnl't login anymore and it takes you to a signup screen.

      Mass cancellations happened 12:30-12:35pm AEDT (I was watching Netflix live when error message popped up).

    Netflix worked normal last night. Today afternoon, around 2:30pm, while I geared myself to watch a movie on Netflix app (tv), got the error “Sorry, but this account is no longer active. Please sign up again or sign in to a different account.”

    Came on OZBargain as I got the feeling this is happened to our beloved OZbargainers as well. Damn! Reading the above thread and comments, looks like Turkey is done. Possibly using gift cards. Indian Netflix is not an option as well. Wonder what now? :(

          Streamio is used to stream shows for free (don't ask where the shows come)
          Real Debrid is a downloader to download stuff fast

    already dl'ed the shows i was watching via the high seas until netflix rudely cancelled my membership. Now watching it on a local hard drive streamed to my TV - end user experience basically unaffected. i can park this whole netflix vpn business until another day, or they can just kiss goodbye to any monthly subscription fee from me ever again. They went from $11/mth to $0/mth. hope they're proud of themselves.

      I do miss the convenience of browsing for new content, the algorithm seemed to have given me a lot of decent recommended recently. Loads of limited series, some older stuff from 2-3 years ago.

      those that tried the Nigerian method in the last couple weeks all had their accounts closed like this as well after about a week of usage from what I read in that thread.

      I'm considering just taking the lowest tier Aussie $6.99 with ads option. Still 50/50 on that.

        I can pay $0, get 4k, and no ads; with very little effort compared to streaming on Netflix.

    So I called Netflix to discuss the cancellation and was informed that my account had been "compromised due to unusual activity", someone else had accessed my account and removed the payment method (What the heck ??). Surely they could do better than resorting to such a flimsy excuse. Despite this, I mentioned that my most recent payment was on 10th Feb - merely two weeks ago, and they agreed to issue a refund.

      Just curious - were you a member of any of the orgs that had a recent hack? Medibank/Optus/Tangerine etc? And perhaps used the same card as payment method?

      Basically the same spiel that I was given but they did ask if I'm using the account from the country that it was created in. Refused to refund and said to contact my bank.

      Don't bother with chat. They won't reinstate your account. If you already paid you'll need to initiate a chargeback as instructed by live chat when I reached out to them. They refused to issue a refund.

      Their terms and conditions also do not say I need to own a mobile phone - they still ask for an SMS confirmation.
      Don't think they are the ones who can be expected to stick to their t&c - but expect others to. Right.

      As a young child my parents always instilled in me my right to a Turkish Netflix subscription. Its an insult to their memory to suggest that I'm entitled.

    Had been using Netflix via turkey for years now. This is definitely the end for me as a Netflix customer. They were getting $10 a month and will now get 0. Not paying $22 a month. Definitely don’t get that sort of value out of it.

    Mine on CC gone too as expected. It was a good run. Now they get $0/m because there's no way I'm paying Australian 4K prices to watch 1 show a month, and even that is probably being generous. More like 1 show every 3 months lately.

    We were watching the last episode of a show last night, but stopped half way through cos I was falling asleep. Today, Netflix cancels our Turkish account. I wont feel good about reactivating our account at Australian prices for a month, but would feel a lot worse when my wife reacts to me telling her to just read the episode synopsis from Wikipedia…

    Damn you, Netlifx.

    I think most of us recently jumped on Nigeria's Netflix, which may have triggered the cancellation of all our existing accounts. I have two accounts; one is in Turkey, and the other is in Nigeria. Now, both accounts have been cancelled.

    I'm disappointed, but I do not regret it. I have used the turkey one for over two years and am so happy. Let's find any other loopholes.

    Been travelling to turkey for years. There wasn't much to watch on netflix from the recent years. Looking on the bright side, they're saving me money from not subscribing back.
    Most of the time i would browse their catalogue then exit out.

    Was in a few workshops with Microsoft over the past few months. They (MS) are increasing their capability of heuristics and correlation of data. Ie Aussie issued credit cards issuers then being geolocated to the merchant and client endpoint when not accessing via VPNs. And being able to flag the accounts via power automate scripts.

    That was a case study I think for one of their 365 subs but extendedable to Xbox Live Gold.

    We have Digital border margin production / racketeering in AUS by major tech.

    I think a fairer system would be to offer decent savings through uniDays / Student beans.

      They think we will buy AU netflix. Same thinking as when they cracked down on password sharing. Everyone thought they would lose subscribers because people wouldn't bother paying for their own account. But they saw a massive increase in new subscribers after that crackdown.

    Went on chat, purely to get a screenshot in support of my chargeback. They gave the same excuse of it being applied automatically by the system due to unusual activity, and being unable to refund. It told them "The limitations of your systems are not my concern. You cannot charge me for a service you won't deliver. That is theft".

    It's useless, but I feel better 😂

    Called up, excuse was someone tried to log into my account too many times and for me to resubscribe I need a new payment method.

    I asked what the relevance was between the two, why would someone trying to hack my account require me to give a new payment method and they hanged up.
