Hey bargainers

Just got this email from JB - part of March madness email campaign. Copy paste from the deal below.

  • $450 gift card for $69 upfront plan - 24 months ($1,656 MINIMUM COST OVER 24 MONTHS)
  • $800 gift card for $99 upfront plan - 24 months ($2,376 MINIMUM COST OVER 24 MONTHS)

Available to port-in and new customers only (excluding JB Upfront/Prepaid, The Good Guys Mobile & Broadband, Telstra and Boost).

Please note that JB Hi-Fi Mobile plans will not contribute to the Telstra Loyalty program.

Also some handy notes here in case you cancel / terminate early

  • If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term.

e.g.
(a) Month 1: You will need to repay 23/24 of the Voucher you received;
(b) Month 12: You will need to repay 11/24 of the Voucher you received; and
(c) Month 23: You will need to repay 1/24 of the Voucher you received.

Hope I got everything.

Anything less than $600/$1100 basically isn’t even worth talking about

    • +1

Yup, and unlike what some below are suggesting, nothing's changed with respect to minimum voucher fees. This is the normal base offering, and the first time deal poster just isn't aware.

Will scale up again over time, as it always does.

      • +1

Barely have to wait either, it was $600 for the $69 this week until the 6th, it was also $600 about two weeks before that and also mid-Jan. At this stage you can treat the voucher value (at least for the $69 plan) like the rotation of supermarket specials, $450 is the base value.

    • Yeah a day too late he missed out on the $600
      … Imagine that poor op

  • +2

Used to be $600 for $69/m plan

    • +2

And there was once a 12 month option. Isn’t JB in a world of pain still with the ACCC and their extended warranties?

      • That isn't exactly the same type of voucher. I'm looking for a monitor

  • +1

they got the (mod: edited) so much from OZbagainers they added to t and c to stop the sign up and cancel churn - well done people

    • +2

      We had a good run.
This is why we can't have nice things though lol

    • Do you mean we can't sign up and cancel anymore?

      • They do, but they've got that wrong. The voucher offer regularly goes back to this price before scaling up again.

It's possible it might never reach $1200+ again on the $99 plan, but there's no evidence of that here.

  • It was 700 yesterday for the 69

  • Please note that JB Hi-Fi Mobile plans will not contribute to the Telstra Loyalty program.

Is this new? so it doesnt earn telstra plus points?

These plans suck now, I want the 12 month ones back, don't like 24 months.

    • I think that is new wtf

But I believe in life after love.

        • You must be strong enough to live without it

  • Was I store yesterday and it was $700 for the $69 plan

  • My $45 plan through JB works with Telstra rewards is this a new thing ?

Seems like a terrible deal then..

    Rubbish deal from JB

  • 2 days ago they were offering $700 for 24 month $69

  • +1

This used to be 12 months, this is not worth it at 24 months. Maybe the optus hack killed competition.

I've been waiting since December for a port in deal but this is just shit.

I live in a tiny pocket of a suburb that gets zero reception from Telstra (didn't know this beforehand). Lucky I had not opened my new phone at the Telstra store. The staff member kept pushing for me to open it up and set up sim. I continued to use my phone that day as I didn't want to open phone until I had a new case for it.

Get home, zero reception, can't do anything. Call Telstra tech from my son's phone (Optus) and they said to wait 24 hours and I will have reception. 24 hours later still nothing.
I work from home and use hotspot for laptop. 3 days I missed work as they kept pushing back the wait 24 hours.

I cracked it, said you can't provide a service and I'd like to go back to Optus (yeh they leak my details, but I get coverage with them). They agreed and I returned sealed phone to Telstra store. Had proof from the store they had the phone. Call them up and they said it has to go to the warehouse before refund can go ahead. 3 weeks later, still nothing (asking me for tracing details etc) I said I've done my part for returning it, what happens from the store onwards is out of my control. Anyway 2 weeks after that, they confirm they have located the phone and will waive the fees. It's now been 3 weeks since then, bill is still there and I've been told by 7 or 8 staff members I'll get a call back within 24 hours (never happens) and every time I talk to someone the cycle resets and I'm back at the start.

The online chat is full of typos, the call center is full of people that have no idea how to pull up someone's records and see the history.

    F**K TELSTRA!

I bet the staff member in store knew I had zero coverage in my area, hence why he was extra pushy to open the phone. If phone was opened, I'd have to pay the handset cost.

    • Don't they need to check coverage with you before signing you up? Haven't been on postpaid for years but I remember they opened up their website showing me there is your 3G/4G etc.

      • If they do, they didn't do it for me. I've been with Optus for over 15 years and never had an issue with reception unless I'm in the middle of nowhere.
Even when I spoke to Telstra tech support over the phone, the first 2 people said I need to restart phone and wait 24 hours. 3rd person tried to say it was my phone and I should insert sim card into my new phone and I would get reception. No way I was opening that until my reception issue was sorted.

I'm still waiting on handset bill to be waived, I have loads of screenshots from online chat saying it will be done within 24 hours, yet here I am over a month later still waiting.

I've been with Telstra for like a good decade now, but man it's so bizarre there are dead set black spots in some areas, and this isn't some rural area, it's like an inner west sydney suburb, I have to walk up the street to get an actual connection, it's so weird, it's not even like I'm inside the house, when I'm outside, clear skies etc.

  • It was $1000 for $99 plan yesterday. (and valid until 20/3). Still not worth it.

  • Does anyone know if the JB plans get exactly the same service as actual Telstra plans?

I'm glad I don't use a lot of data and the year long plans are perfect for me. It feel very last decade having to pay more than $30/month for a mobile plan.

    • +1

They're Telstra dealers, so you get put into Telstra's system, just with JB being the middleman and picking up a commission for selling the plan.
You get the exact same service as getting a phone direct through Telstra

  • that's $50/m and $66/m……..

  • +1

Since when the JB deals getting worse and worse

  • +2

    24 months🤢

  • Poor OP… not the reception you expected.
