Sweet price, recently purchased the 45s with hard case for close to $300 off Woolies/MyDeal and missus has a pair of the SE (same without hard case) for $250 or so.

Good to see prices back to the lows and they are so good if you travel for work or commute long distances.

    Nice stacking OP

  • I am having issues using these with Ms Teams, not sure if anyone else faced same.

    • connection failure or mic/headphone quality issues?

      • Poor call quality and distortion, read on reddit it was common with this model.

        • all these high end headphones have very poor moc quality except airpods max.

          • @backupper1: Yup. probably true. am looking for a teams headphone now.

            • @Ehty: Jabra EVOLVE HSC040W Wireless Bluetooth 40 mm Stereo Headset - Over-the-head
i use these for regular phone calls over data or cellular so can’t comment regarding ms teams etc but there is no reason for the performance to be any different, quality of sound and mic is very good.

    • +1

I have an issue with MSTeams - not the headphones - others have said it's crap compared to Zoom and I agree

    • For me it depends on the PC.
My work laptop has crackly bluetooth and only can use the 'QC45 Hands Free' in MS Teams
My home laptop just connects to them as 'QC 45 Headphones' and the quality is high level.

I have wondered if buying an external bluetooth dongle would help

      • +1

When it's asking for audio from the mic it'll switch over to HFP/hands free compared to the regular high quality mode A2DP sinc which doesn't need the bandwidth to the microphone.

On my Linux laptop I'm able to set which mode it uses explicitly, but maybe try using teams in the web and explicitly select a different microphone source (e.g. inbuilt laptop?)

The other thing I looked at was a wired boom mic like this one to be wired during calls to not need to rely on the inbuilt laptop mic, but apparently it wasn't amazing at blocking background noise so I now use a different wired headset for calls in a noisy environment.

    • Having the same issue. People say my voice fades out, but hasn't been brought up in a while. I upgraded from my deteriorating QC 35's but never had those issues with them

    • Even microsoft was unable to produce a wireless headphone that works well with MS Teams. Whoever solves that problem wins Nobel prize.

    • I hate Ms Teams. She was the worst teacher in high school.

  • +5

Great headphones. This price is probably what they should have originally cost.

  • are there better than the qc 45s?

    • +9

Apparently this is the QC45 without the hard case.

      • lol so the hard case is worth 50 bucks? lol.

        • +2

          it isn't

        • Worth every penny ;)

    • 'are there better than the qc 45s?'

you can pay more for Ultra and some BS but this is the best CP value at the mo'

  • How is this compared to the Sony?

    • depends what you like in sound I find bose to handle base alot better.

      • 'depends what you like in sound I find bose to handle base alot better'

the advantage of these QC45 over earlier QC14, QC35, QC35ii which we also bought - is the QC45 has EQ allowing Bass, Mid, Treble adjustment in the free Bose Music app (which those older models don't) - not very fancy but enough to make a difference.

    • -3

No comparison with the Sony well ahead on comfort, sound and NC in my opinion, although they're nearly double this price so they should be.

      • +3

        ANC is better than Sony
        Comfort is better than Sony
Sound is worse than Sony (the Bose QC SE/45 is very bright, i.e. too much treble. The app now has an EQ adjustment, so it’s solvable. There are many EQ recommendations online).

Overall they are equivalent, depends on your needs.

        • The sound is worse than the XM4s? Thought that wasn't possible 😆

Jokes aside, the tuning of the XM4s is still comically bad imo. I get what they're going for but all I hear is thump thump thump and not enough detail.

    • +9

When I purchased my Bose QC45 I cross-shopped with Sony WH-1000xm4. I liked a lot about them both, but the Sony's were unwearable. There wasn't enough depth from the ear cushions, causing the tips of my ears to compress against the hard plastic.
If it's possible, I strongly encouraging getting into a JB HiFi that has a pair on display you can try on.

      • +1

Yeah headphone fit is so personal. You shouldn’t buy any without trying them on first.

I’m actually an outlier and find the QC45s uncomfortable but most seem to like them more than the Sonys.

      • +4

yep - don't buy the Sony without trying them on in a shop

my big ears rubbed on the bottom of the SONY earcups - that was excruciating on a 10-hour flight where I wore similar shallow earcups for noise-canceling - never again !

The Bose have an angled earcup 30mm deepest where your ear would stick out the most (I measured just now from the top of the earpad) - I haven't measured the SONY but suspect it's gonna be more like 20mm - rub ma ears pain territory.

I mappy with the Bose QC45 and wear them every day

        • +1

I had the same experience. It's almost silly that the angled ear well isn't just standard. Who's ears stick out like flat cylinder?

The Bose I've worn for a 10 hr flight and never needed to take them off. Thought my ears would get unbearably hot or sweaty but

          • @mit: I’ve also found my ears tend to get unpleasantly sweaty wearing the Bose for multiple hours. When the cushions need replacing I’m going to see about getting some that breath better.

  • Still rocking my Sennheiser PXC550 must resist ordering the new shiny thing. Even if it a good deal.

    • but - it's NEW !, SHINY !!, A GOOD DEAL !!!, & YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT !!!!

  • +2

Thanks, grabbed a pair. Been considering a pair to take overseas/on planes, long trips, didn't want to use IEMs and my studio headphones are cabled only/quite heavy. My partner has these (from the JBHiFi deal last year slightly cheaper) and they seem decent! Super light at least, I messed with the EQ a bit and they sound 'fine' now, out of the box they sound very hallow/bright.

  • Anyone can comment on sound quality (ignoring spatial audio) and NC (for airplane use) vs the Ultra?

    • +2

I have the QC35 II, and upgraded to the Ultra. I can't really tell the difference between the two. I actually prefer my QC35 II's controls (which is the same as the 45/SE). If I had to do it again I would've picked the SE or 45 instead of the Ultra.

    • +2

I own one of these. Sound quality is pretty decent but a bit on the brighter side. NC is exceptional but I haven't tried the ultra so can't compare.

  • +1

Ripper set of cans. Bought mine in the last deal.

  • Has anyone used these while working out? Will they hold up to excessive sweat?

    • +3

I don't think there are any over ear headphones will hold up with frequent excessive sweat. In ears or bone conduction is the way to go. Even the in ears can go bad from sweat.

    • I have the QC35s and they're a good fit for low intensity training, but anything cardio might get a bit stifling as the cushions are faux leather, not meant to be breathable.

I bought this yesterday for $280. How can I get Amazon to refund the difference?

    • +4

Theyll tell you to submit a return on the old and buy a new pair

      • Does that mean you need to pay for return costs because it’s not free returns?

    • This happened to me once and they credited me the difference.

  • What’s the difference between this and the QC? Just the wind mode?

    • These are QC45s with a soft material case instead of a hard one.

    • yeh my SE is recognised as 'QC45', new firmware allows 'wind block'.. works perfectly.

  • Please suggest this or Sennheiser momentum 4

My use is for listening online music mostly Spotify or YouTube music. So considering the source of music, is it worth spending bit extra on Momentum ?

°I've been using $30-40 headphone all my life.

    • +2

Listen to the Bose in a jbhifi and buy it if you're happy with how is sounds. You'd get world class ANC as a bonus, which will come in handy in local public transportation, but will especially prove valuable during flights. In fact, the ANC is the #1 selling point for the Bose cans IMO.

That said, the Bose may not pickup voice as well as the Sennheiser during phone calls and may sound somewhat less musical in comparison (nothing that you may notice going up from a $50 headphones).

      • I'm not gonna use it for phone calls. Not sure if noise cancelling will be of any use either. My home theatre system is still wired. I want to upgrade for better audio quality. My current headphones stopped holding a charge for more than 30 minutes after a year of use, so battery life is important. As for noise cancelling only time I need that is while lawn mowing and for that I use wired earphones and don't mind continuing using them.

      • Hi mate, so I've bought momentum 4 from OW for $375 finally. Didn't get time to use them yet and they're still in the box. And now QC45 SE are on sale at JB for $249 ($239 with perks). As you know I was already so confused between these two to start with. Is it worth spending extra $139 on momentum 4 or should I return them and get QC45 SE instead ? I also read that after some tinkering with Bose Equalizer QC45 sound about the same as momentum 4 ?

        • +1

Hello. Momentum will sound somewhat more musical than the qc45 se, but it's not a leap I would personally need if I were going up from a $40 headphones. But if you need that little bit more then you keep it. If that difference is worth $139 more is questionable to me. That's even without considering the fact that you could adjust how the Bose sounds with the EQ.

That said, once again, the Bose offers absolutely world class ANC and I can't emphasize this enough. You wouldn't know how much you needed it until you use it for a few days. Particularly useful in noisy environmenta and an absolute lifesaver on aeroplanes.

You could also listen to the two units back to back in a JB hi-fi and decide if the sound difference is worth $139 to you personally.

The difference in musical fidelity between the two units is a little bit (favouring the momentum), but the difference in ANC will be night and day (favouring the Bose). I would pick the Bose in your specific situation without batting an eyelid.

          • @CocaKoala: Thanks. With that much price difference I also believe it's not worth it to buy momentum 4 and I finally bought qc45 SE from JB hi-fi and returned momentum 4. At OW they opened the box to check inside at the time of return and for a moment I got emotional looking at the brand new Senny haha ( as I always wanted one for last 10 years) . In the end, it's a good decision though as I found Sennys heavier on my head and bit bulky to carry around. Thanks for helping me decide.

    • +1

The sound improvement from the Senny’s will be noticeable but not meaningful. The battery life’s also incredible, but ANC is better on the Bose.
I returned my Momentum 4’s after a short while as the touch controls were infuriating and buggy. Even at the same price, much prefer the Bose

      • I'm looking to get something for better sound but does it make much difference if I use YouTube music most of the time. I have had frustrating experience with charging my current headphones. Most of the time when I need my headphones they are out of charge. I usually charge them to use for later but they get discharged while not in use(sometimes weeks). Battery life, ease of charging and holding that charge for longer and quality of sound is my main issue.

        • +1

You'll be ok with either then as they're not like cheap $40 headphones and will hold a charge much better and for longer.

I'd just get the Bose if I were you as it's cheaper and you won't know how much you needed ANC until you use it.

          • @CocaKoala: I went to JB to check these. Bose QC 45 was good but they didn't have any Sennheiser on demo so couldn't compare. Now that this deal has finished. I found Sennheiser HD 450BT on Amazon at $145. Thinking of buying it. Hopefully they have decent sound as many reviews vouch for it. Thank you for your time and feedback.

            • +1

              @SuperLate:

. I found Sennheiser HD 450BT on Amazon at $145

And they're not worth even that much IMO. They're not going to be as comfortable or sound as decent as the Bose. They don't have ANC either.

They fit very tight around the ears and could be quite uncomfortable for using long periods of time at one go (an hour or two might be ok). Granted they will sound better than pair is a $40 headphones, I'd still try them before buying.

But then you dropped from the momentum 4 to this one and they're not on the same league. It looks like you can't quite make your mind up or even know what you want.

              • @CocaKoala: Yeah, looks like I still can't make my mind up. Cheap prices do attract. Finally got to try HD450 and Momentum 4 in store. You're right, I didn't find them as comfortable as Bose. 450 felt more like on-ear. Both 450 and Momentum felt to be on heavier side to me. Even my $40 one feels light and comfy, may be because I'm used to it now.

  • Back in my day we would just put in some earphones and then a pair of tradie’s earmuffs over the top. Blocks out much more noise than these fandangled things.

    • +4

Unfortunately, the likes of Apple started a trend of first removing the bundled earphones then removing the headphone 3.5mm jack itself.

I used to use wires.and put my helmet on top. Worked like a dream for over two decades. Now, this crap, I'm forced to shell out for an in helmet comm system, about $300.

      😔🤔

      • You could get something like the Qudelix 5K and a reasonably priced set of IEMs like the KZ ZS10 Pro. I have this combo and the sound is pretty amazing.

        • +1

Yea, but for ease of use, not having to plug things into my ears (now I use foam plugs) which sometimes get moved out of place when I put on my helmet. Or, I'm on the bike and I realise that I've forgotten them in the house.

The little DAC is great, but I just want something to keep me going on my commute, tbh. Podcasts and books, or music, or news. Nothing out of the ordinary.

      • You can buy the 3.5mm dongle for like $15.

    • These fandangled things can switch between silent mode and aware mode. The future technology should be able to choose which noise to block and to keep i.e. blocking all noises except emergency sounds etc

    • Tradie earmuffs? You youngins are funny, back in my day we'd just harden up and deal with hearing loss like men.

  • I'm in the market for some new headphones for flying after I "misplaced" my last set. I generally like to use in-ear as they are easier to sleep in - can anyone comment on the comfort of these while sleeping in economy?

  • +2

I brought this hard case for my QC SE’s after the last deal for $20. It’s definitely a fake Ali special, but the quality seems okay.
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364184281184

Amazon does sell an original hard case for $40.

  • Ordered the Sony WH-c720N recently which is base model, liked them so much but they do not connect to my TV with bluetooth (Samsung issue) so going to give these a go as these are a step up and the equivalent Sony will have the same connection issue. Thanks for posting.

    • If they don't connect to the Sony's over Bluetooth, I don't know why they would connect to the Bose

      • No, its specifically Sony headphones. There's a samsung community thread about it (Ive commented it in recent Sony headphone deal posts). Samsung have ackonwledged the issue but claim its an issue with the headphones not the TV. Bu the HPs connect fine to every other BT device I have incl even my Samsung phone so imo its a Samsung issue..

  • How good is the noise cancellation at hiding voices and talking ?

I unfortunately work in a open plan office and the noise from people talking around the floor kills my concentration and productivity when try to concentrate and when reading documentation (IT Engineering job) and I want headphones that cut out all the distracting blah blah blah.

    • It will help a lot, you’ll still be able to hear them. The voices will sound distant and muffled. ANC tends to work better for low constant rumbling noises, which is why people love them for airplanes.

At work, if I want to concentrate my personal reaction would be to find a quiet meeting room or WFH, rather than use ANC headphones.

      • Unfortunately quiet meeting rooms or WFH are not a option :(

  • A question for those who have used these headphones long enough - I know Sony headphones (e.g. WH1000XM3B) speak the battery charge level (%) when you press the start button at any time during the use. I couldn't find such a functionality in these Bose headphones.

Is there a way to know battery level by pressing any button while having the headphones in use (rather than checking it on laptop or Bose music app)? These headphones seem to speak the battery level but only when you switch them ON. I couldn't find a way to do it again later during the use. This could be a trivial thing but I was so used to this function with my old Sony headphones.

  • Expired.. disappointing. needed them

    • Still showing same price, and could add to cart for me???

      • 323 for me, that's strange.

        • I can see $323 from the seller "Amazon UK", are you able to switch to the Amazon AU seller which should be $238. Hope this helps.

          • @kacak: I tried setting it to "all departments", "ship from Australia" and did a search for Bose and nothing is coming up. I have no idea what's going on.

          • @kacak: Hi are you still able to see it for 238? Ive contacted their CS today and got absolutely nowhere. They told me the item is not not available to be shipped from Australia and were certain about it. They weren't willing to check the ozbargain link I provided them.
This is really frustrating and bizarre.

            • @Bigburper: Yes, simply clicking the link in the thumbnail of this deal itself took me to the correct $238 listing (Amazon AU) and I could add to cart etc….

Have you tried logging in to your Amazon account, use Incognito, another device/browser (eg. phone or desktop).

              Also, try this link https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0BDT54SGD

Sorry I don't really know what else to suggest, but hope you manage to sort it out.

              • @kacak: I just logged out of my account and I can now see them with a search for $238. This is just very confusing to me, Im not sure why the CS insisted they are not available. When I try to log back in it reverts back to $323 shipped from UK. Never experienced this before.

                • +1

@Bigburper: So it turns out my postcode is not eligible. Thats pretty disappointing. Didn't know that was a thing with prime deals. Thanks for helping me figure it out.

                  • +1

@Bigburper: In that case, why don't you try to get it price matched at another store like JB Hifi or HN (show them the $238 amazon price)

                  • @Bigburper: Are you in a regional area?

    • Still in stock for $238.

      • Thanks for confirming. Sorry I don't know what the problem is, I've never had this happen before. Was ten minutes too late to contact CS but will try in the morning.

  • +1

    I've just bought thanks OP.
Still available $238 in the big smile sale..

  • +2

Great news - I was notified that the headphones just received an update, and to my surprise, the app now has the ability to customise more ANC modes! I was initially disappointed after purchasing that there were only the Quiet & Aware modes, but now you can customise additional modes with your own levels of noise cancellation (including none).

Also, once you've set up the additional modes, you can cycle through them using the same ANC button on the left earcup.

Another feature I noticed is the ability to press & hold the left button to either hear battery level or launch Spotify.

Here's some release notes I found online:

    QuietComfort 45 firmware versions
    v4
    Released 21 March 2024
    Version 4.0.4
Added Spotify Tap functionality that allows you to launch Spotify directly from your headphones. Enable this feature using as a Shortcut in your Bose Music app.
Added a toggle to be able to turn multi-point on or off. This toggle is accessible via settings in the Bose Music app.
Added the ability to create custom modes for different levels of noise cancellation that you can access from your headphones. Access Modes via the Bose Music app to create your own.
Bug fixes and general stability improvements

    • thank you.. awesome.

I just tested the update on a windy hill right next to a freeway.
using the new 'wind block' setting it eliminated the issue, and still had decent noise reduction.

also, i think the standard 'quiet' mode is now less sensitive to wind.

  • Ahh no longer available! :(

    • I just clicked the link and it said 1 left in stock,

      edit gone now :(
