I use plex a lot, sometimes i miss the play/pause button on the remote.

    • +2

download button remap and use the netflix or youtube and play pause

      • +4

Well try it, no longer using netflix after they blocked my turkey citizenship 😔

look into stremio + torrentio + real debrid. Great alternative to neflix

          • @BigPeeper: and to Plex+Torrent

            • @liongalahad: Through plex-debrid? I looked into this but didn't really like the idea of running a PC 24/7 to host

              • @BigPeeper: Stremio+Real Debrid makes Plex redundant. No need to store anything, stream at the max possible speed at any time at the highest quality, any movie or tv series to ever exist. Perfection

                • +1

@liongalahad: Only issue with stremio is on ios you have to link an external play which won’t sync where you left off in a video to your other devices. plex-debrid fixes this as it stores it on the host. Apparently someone is making an ios app with a built in player to fix this.

                  • +1

@BigPeeper: yeah true iOS is not fully supported by Stremio, doesnt affect me but I see how many could be affected

          • +1

@BigPeeper: I did this and have never looked back.

    • You can probably pair it with a much better Bluetooth remote control with all the buttons you want.

Another option is turning on HDMI CEC so your TV's remote control might be able to control all functions, and it might have a play/pause button. I'm not a fan of mostTV remote control designs but some aren't too bad.

I have heaps of Vodafone TVs in my family and I'm a huge fan of its remote control.

I was experimenting with a Chromecast with Google TV and discovered you can pair the much better Vodafone TV remote control with it, and it mostly works except I couldn't get the Voice Search button working with the CC. There might be a way to get it going with a button remapper. I've already remapped the Netflix button as a sleep timer and the Program Up/Down to control speed in some apps but haven't had energy to investigate the Voice Search issue further.

  • My 4k remote died right on 2yrd 2 month. The okay button stopped accepting input :(

    • +6

      So it's not okay.

    • maybe you just need a new remote

    • You are no longer a remote worker.

  • does these work with kayo 4k? Firetv4kMax works but the picture is choppy when watching 4k content

    • +1

I watched all the NRL 4K content over the weekend just fine. We have WiFi6 and my GTV box is about 15m away from the Access Point.

  • this is the version with Android TV built into it right?

    • -1

yes, i think only the first gen chromecast didn't have Android TV (and chromecast audio, of course). Looking at these right now for a relative who is using an old Xiaomi tv box which is almost unbearable slow

      • +3

The first 3 gens didn't have Android TV

        • Thanks for that! A quick research showed me what I've been missing since the last time I had the OG chromecast! (spoiler, not much)

          • @pichxlonco: Casting seems clunky. Also I'm not convinced each app supports it in the same way. Apps like Kayo I think half ass the implementation and it seems buggy at times.

          • +1

@pichxlonco: But it's changed heaps from the OG Chromecast! Basically like an upgrade to your old TV with Google TV running on the Chromecast's processor and a handy little remote.

            • +1

@Morven: Yeah! But the jump seems big enough on this generation, the other ones look just like little hardware upgrades.

              • +2

@pichxlonco: Exactly. But a new version of this generation is coming soon. I've had two of the current ones for three years - they helped extend the life of TVs from 2017 and each came with 6 months of Netflix that stacked, so they've been great.

    • +3

yep that's why it's called "Chromecast with Google TV"

      • -1

you're assuming I clicked on the link, this post doesn't say that hence why the question was asked.

        • +3

Im not assuming anything, I just said how this device is called. Not having a dig or anything, peace

  • +2

There is most likely a new model coming out later this year, something to consider.

    • +3

Min of 32gb is what I expect on a upgrade. 8gb is phethetic

      • +3

even just 16 GB would be amazing compared to 8, which is indeed pathetic considering how much space the OS already takes

    • Yes. Came here to post that. I had the original Chromecast, then Chromecast with Google TV, and both were great so I'm looking forward to the next.

Thanks, I was waiting for a deal on the 4K version. I now have yet another JBHIFI perks account with a new email address.

  • I can't even get chromecast devices to show up in the cast list anymore. Reset the router. Unplug and replug devices. They just don't work anymore… I hate these things

    • Try going into settings > apps > system apps > chromecast. Uninstall updates

      • I'm cursed with an Apple phone :(

  • What do you mean by JB perks? I got a JB Hifi perks coupon code in an email today, but when I just tried using it on the Chromecast 4K it said this coupon dies not work on this cart.

    • +1

Maybe they’re onto us. Worked for me

    • I'm on board with JB Perks since August 2023, and never get any perks coupons or codes. Feels like overboard ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  • I bought an HD Chromecast from a previous deal and the audio keeps getting out of sync, or the video gets stuck on the screen. It feels even worse than my first gen Chromecast. I only use it for casting, nothing else. I'm not sure if that's because I have a 10 year old Samsung TV but it should not be affected by that. I searched around and some people suggested that I need to disable surround sounds. It seems to be better now after rebooting the Chromecast, but it's too early to tell if it's definitely fixed.

  • When there was the offer for two for one, I bought two and sold one so now I have got my chromecast for free
