so tempted just for the clear purple c/w.

i prob shouldnt..patiently waiting for the fabled Miyoo Mini Flip

    • i like the look of the RG35XX here

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/837022

sub $50 and i'm in….how long the wait though?

      • +2

i have 351mp, pretty happy, but always after the next random knick knack to blow my disposable income on just to see if it will give me enough dopamine to get me through the next pay cycle.

        how long the wait

ikr - feels like 84 years since they teased the mini flips.

        • The R3S is a cheaper knock off of the Ambernic 351 line. Same internals, and would be downgrade in every other way.

          I looked into because I’ve got a 351V.

          • @PainToad: Thank you. So do you have a link to the ducks nuts? Doesn't have to be cheap just curious to keep an eye on the one I should ultimately get it I want quality before price. Cheers..

            • @seamonkey: Steamdeck if you want the best option regardless of price.

    Cheaper here:

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006134362014.html

And it's a proper aliexpress.com link and not the vi.aliexpress link

    • what is vi.? your link redirects me to vi.

      • +3

Vietnam I think. Aliexpress often sends me to weird country versions of the site even when I explicitly go to aliexpress.com. The link above didn't though

        • same. for me its Netherlands. very annoying

        • Me too! It happens when I go to a seller's home page.

      • +2

Yep. you have to go into your browsers settings and scrub all cookies and etc otherwise it will always go to vi. It's extremely annoying to get rid of, which is why I always tell people to use the proper .com and not vi. link.

        • Is there a downside to using another region? Just realised I have made purchases on vi. -_-

Picked up one of these earlier in the week for $51 total price, awesome value

I got the Anbernic RG35XX+ and its so good. Playing old Pokemon games, Donkey Kong etc on short flights or just waiting for appointments etc.

Kinda wish i had the joysticks like this one for PS1 games but all i wanted to play was Shane Warne Cricket lol

    • Dude, Shane warne 99 is the shit.

  • I just bought one for $47.40 through the 50% off section there is one there for $48.04 and with the $6 off $45.

These are fine for everything up to PS1 and some dreamcast games. N64 struggles a bit but some titles are playable. PC ports of old games like half life, vice city, duke 3d and return to castle Wolfenstein run amazing. If you keep your expectations low it's a fun little handheld for the money. D Pad kind of sucks for fighting games but I have no issues in platformers with it.

I have been playing dreamcast versions of tony hawk 1 and 2 and it just barely manages them, new york level has some slow down but most are fine.

    Worth $60 imo.

    • I googled because I thought you must be joking with vice city. Holy shit postmaster has come a long way, tempted to grab one just for another vice city machine.

      • +1

        vice city

PTSD flashbacks to OG vc on ps2 and the many many hours as a 15 year old stuck at that god damn rc helicopter mission

        • lmao I'm so sick of hearing that. It's a box of piss. Pickup bomb, fly in, drop it, fly back, rinse and repeat 4 times. I'm far from a pro gamer, but even my 8 year old ass beat it on my first go.

The plane mission in San Andreas is a smidgen harder because of the time allotted (and the SMG douchebags) but even that's pretty damn easy when you have a grasp on how to fly.

Like go back and play the VC mission, I really doubt you'd struggle my man.

          • @TheDukeOfNukem: I did go back, twice actually on pc and once on ios , but honestly it just didn’t grab me like back in the day. I pretty much get back to the bit where you first link up with lance in the alleyway shootout and then I get distracted by whatever else has become flavour of the month in gaming world (helldivers, palworld, battlebit, huniepop2 etc)

As for the gaming thing yeah I prob could tbh. My biggest weakness was just for some reason having a poor grasp of anything that needed flying control for some reason. Like god I wish I could fly fighter jets and the choppers in battlefield but mannnnn I am so bad.

            • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Holy hell I had a massively long response but you don't deserve to have to suffer through such a long ramble when the sum total was 2 points

              • I think I might just be a traversal and or flight nerd with games, I even 100%'d Superman Returns, so maybe it is difficult and I'm just a loser who hops at the chance to fly anything and everything.
              • I also can be the same with games, though more often than not I'm just replaying the same half a dozen games and nauseum, I used to have thousands of games on my emulators and now I have it down to like 20/30 odd on the Deck/DevMode bc when am I ever actually going to play Captain America and the Avengers on the Mega Drive.
    • should i wait for rgb30 to be on sale? still double the price of this

      • I'd honestly just buy this.

Similar power level, you are gonna top out at about N64.

Probably much better controls but I've never used one.

If you play lots of arcade games I guess the 1:1 aspect ratio is good but I just wanna play old consoles so to me that's a downside because of the black bars.

Better form factor maybe? Controls are still right on the edge though so probably still uncomfortable. I printed a handgrip for the R36S and it improved comfort immensely.

I honestly feel like this is the sweet spot for value. Lots of fun games to play on it and if I wanna emulate anything that requires more horsepower I have an S23 ultra that can do all the way up to PS2 and Switch. I have a clip on controller for that but it's a lot of stuffing around setting up emulators and front ends. This thing is so easy, just update the operating system and dump a rom pack onto it and you are done. I use it more too because it just sits there ready to go, press a button to turn it on and away you go.

        • How do play switch and PS2 on phone? I'm using lemuroid for GB etc

  • +1

Goddamnit, I caved and bought the damn thing.

I used my work email to get the "welcome gift" on a different seller though, brought it down to 43.xx … how could I say no to another way to play GTA 3 on the can? Just wish I did it 2 days ago when I saw this deal so I'd have to wait 48 excruciatingly long hours less.

  • Just wondering why this isn't as popular as miyoo or rg35xx ? I read of the lack of Wi-Fi and bt but this has better compute power no?

    • +1

It's a clone/knock off of the RG351, which is why it ships with ArkOS, they could just use the existing firmware.

Being the same internals it's rather powerful (for a 2020/2021 device). But being a cheap knock off the build quality isn't as good.

I'd spend a bit more and get the RG35XX H deal.
