    What a fantastic set!

    • +4

      Bravo Nolan!

      • -7

        Extremely overrated dude!

  • +11

Annoying I already have them all separately. Good deal if you don’t own any though

    • Same! I have all those titles bought separately through the years and kind of jealous not having it in a box-set.

  • +4

surely a 9 film collection coming up

  • +14

get rid of tenet and put in oppy or memento, then it's perfect

    • +4

I'd rather get rid of Dunkirk and Interstellar and add Oppenheimer and Memento, but I also seem to be in a minority that really likes Tenet.

      • +15

Interstellar is an amazing movie though.

        • +1

I haven’t seen Tenet but otherwise I’m a big fan of Nolan. I really liked Dunkirk too, saw it in the cinema.

    • -5

      this, omg i hate tenet

    • -3

Even Insomnia is better than Tenet.

    • +6

I think these 8 are Warner Brothers. Momento is Newmarket.

      • +1

Good catch! Oppenheimer is also Universal.

    • +22

Used to like this fella. His last few movies are sure fire misses. He's getting kinda overexposed ATM ala Taylor Swift. Ugh!

You’re allowed to like popular stuff, no one will think less of you.

      • I'm in the minority camp of people (especially on Ozbargain seemingly) who rather dislikes (am indifferent to?) Nolan, James Cameron and Tarantino.

All the discourse with film bros and casual movie watchers claiming them as the "masters" put me off movies for a little while before I discovered the likes of Parasite and Korean cinema. Was so refreshing watching films that didn't have forced "happy" endings, beefy, masculine protagonists and guns as their key themes.

        • You didn't like Titanic?

          • @Skinnerr: It's been a long time since I've seen it, but if I had to watch or rewatch any Cameron films, I would put it at the top of my list.

              • @CJ31: Wasn't big on it. All the sappy lines never landed and it felt like they just threw a lot of money into set pieces and special effects rather than trying anything groundbreaking. I felt it trying to please me and then trying to make me sad. Not a fan

          • @Skinnerr: The happy ending always ruined it for me

            • @TheRealCher: John Connor got away with his mum but big robot became very hot robot 😔😔

              • @Ninternet: I was thinking of titantic, but T2 works….

                • @TheRealCher: Titanic doesn't end on the ship sinking. It ends on old Rose relinquishing her "grief" via the necklace with a smile on her face

                  • @Ninternet: Precisely….bloody happy endings….
Now blade runner, there's an ending ..give me a movie that makes me question if I'm a replicant any day!

      • -5

I think less of people who like Taylor Swift.

        • +3

Try and get an actual personality instead of just hating popular things.

    • +1

It's okay to not like his movies, but if it's only because he is now popular, that makes you seem like you're trying to be a hipster - "I liked him before he was well-known". It's not even like his directorial style has changed much either in that time. Same with the popularity of Taylor Swift. Not my kind of music but lots like it, and good for them. Be happy that they like it.

  • +5

    Wot no Memento?

    • +43

      They forgot.

    • +1

      Ninguno Memento.

    • Newmarket not Warner Brothers

  • +5

Dunkirk and Interstellar (anong others I'm sure) have amazing visuals for those with really nice 4k sets. I think a decent Atmos or 7.1 setup is a must have also.

    • Are they Atmos ? I don't have them on Blueray but on iTunes they are not Atmos

      • +1

Doesn't look like it. There's one review that says it's DTS and DTS destroys Atmos apparently.

        • Nolan just doesn't like Atmos. His personal preference. Ironic considering he mixes his stuff for cinemas first and foremost

          • +1

@Ninternet: DTS is pretty good, but I'm guessing we'd need DTSX for today's stuff, could be wrong.

My first home theatre system was an inexpensive 5.1. The Fast and the Furious (original one) on DVD had DTS. It sounded absolutely amazing to me at the time, probably still would.

            • +1

@TEER3X: Nolan just prefers 5.1 I believe. DTSX would be overkill and your old sound system would still suffice in this case.

  • +1

Bought mainly because I wanna try 4k uhd on my S95C.

Only have a Ps5 to play it though.

    • +1

      That would be fine though

  • +4

    Any VHS deals? ;)

    • +2

      Get Betamax or get out!

      • LaserDisc ownz Betamax

        • +2

To be honest, LaserDisc was waaayyyy ahead of its time. I worked in electrical retail in the early 90s (remember Retravision, "The BIGGEST retailer of electrical appliances, not the retailer of the BIGGEST electrical appliances"?), and our store did a display at a local business fair in town where we invited the Sony & Panasonic reps to bring down some of their home theatre gear to show off. Panasonic brought their latest & greatest hi-fidelity 4-head VHS machines, but Sony showed up with full LaserDisc kit. The Sony display was simply awesome, but it was sadly hampered by lack of content available.

          • @Chazzozz: Yep, true! My relos bought LaserDisc never thinking about the discs. It sat unused until DVD kicked it to the kerb. It was an expensive mistake they still regret.

    • +2

You should have listed them in a random order. This is not very Nolan-ic.

    • My ranking of these 8 would be vastly different to yours, almost inverted, interesting to see how people get different experiences from things. Oppenheimer would sit between my 3 and 4 here but sticking to the 8 that are listed.

      1. Batman Begins
      2. The Prestige
      3. Tenet
      4. Inception
      5. The Dark Knight
      6. The Dark Knight Rises
      7. Dunkirk
      8. Interstellar.
      • +4

        Interesting….my Ranking would be:

        1. Interstellar
        2. Inception
        3. The Prestige
        4. Tenet
        5. The Dark Knight
        6. The Dark Knight Rises
        7. Batman Begins
        8. Dunkirk
      • To be honest, there isn't a lot between #3-#7 on my list. We're talking very small margins.

Tenet, man, I just remember the build-up to this film, my expectations were set very high. And the film didn't meet them. It probably deserves a rewatch and reassessment. I've only watched it once.

        • +1

I didn't enjoy it too much in the theatre because the sound drowned out the dialogue. Once I watched it on bluray at home with subtitles on I gained an entirely new appreciation for it. The sound is still too overpowering on the home theatre set up but with subtitles on, the movie is much better.

    • +2

I hated tenet. Might have to re-watch though.

      • +3

It seems you aren't alone here as a lot in this thread don't seem to like it. I have always really liked it, and find it is one of the most rewatchable of Nolan's movies. It has a lot more of a fun charm to it than a lot of the Nolan stuff that feels very self-serious. Feels like Nolan's take on a bond movie.

      • +1

It's okay to hate it and never want to watch again.

    • +1

Interesting, I recently tried to rewatch Inception and just didn’t get into it. I remember when I first saw it I thought it was ok but not great. I guess I feel that the first person / reclaimed footage style was great back in the days of the Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity and it feels a bit overdone these days. Also I couldn’t dig the characters in the movie, just seemed like stereotypical party/20-something, shallow, boring and not very smart people who don’t make good central characters to movies.

  • +2

    Must have for 4k collectors

  • +2

Bought it for 135 and that felt like a pretty good deal. This is a blinder.

  • any deals on bluray players?

are you watching these on dedicated bluray players or PS5s?

  • +5

    Just FYI:

Some of Nolan’s Blu-Ray releases are in variable aspect ratio (VAR) or so-called “IMAX Blu-Ray.” This means some scenes in a movie are shown in 1.78:1 aka 16:9 aspect ratio instead of a single, constant ratio like 2.39:1, making the most out of your TV. Some people like me really enjoy it while others might find VAR a bit disturbing.

  • +2

7 movies, plus a coaster and a free disc case (Tenet).

  • +1

I still remember the feeling of pure frustration I had leaving the cinema after seeing Tenet.

    • How come? I never paid attention to the hubris. Is it too confusing, or something else?

      • +1

I spent 3 hours having absolutely no idea what was going on or what anyone was saying. I like headf*** movies but this just made me feel dumb - I was glad to see it was received about as well as this fairly universally.

        • Right-o! Will give it a miss, unless forced to watch it

          • +2

@ThithLord: I still think this is one you should make your own mind up on. I do intend to give it another crack as the underlying story was interesting and Nolan knows what he's doing. It's just like he took Inception and dialled it WAY up on the convolution.

            • +3

@Hinee: The Audio is a lot clearer on Bluray fyi, I had a lot of trouble understanding what was being said when I saw it in the cinema

              • @bgbrendan: Ah. Jees. So now I am back on the "give it a try" bandwagon lol. I'll pick up the 4K BR then, when on sale

          • @ThithLord: Watch it with subtitles on and the movie suddenly makes sense. Definitely worth a second watch, but the sound drowns out the dialogue. Subtitles improve the movie substantially.

  • -1

I know this is going to piss many off, I have such a love-hate relationship with Nolan.

    Ranking:
    1. The Dark Knight
    2. Dunkirk
    3. Batman Begins
    4. The Prestige
    5. The Dark Knight Rises (only just made the cut, really frustrating film with the countless plot holes)

Throw the rest out. Couldn't stand Interstellar or Inception. Haven't seen Tenet, but it seems to be the most Nolan of all Nolan films.

  • +2

I bought interstellar blu ray for $5 when someone posted on here, the first movie i buy the disc, worth every shilling.

  • Overrated director who can't write dialogue to save himself.

    Come at me nerds

    • Don't cut yourself with that edge lol.

That said, I agree the dialogue is definitely not his strong point. At least he pushes ideas and creates unique movies.
We don't just want more superhero bs movies surely?

      • -1

He definitely has his own style and not all his movies are bad. Momento is probably my favourite that I've seen, Prestige was also a great viewing. I just can't shake the air of pretension I get with many of his movies. I've still not watched Oppenheimer because I'm truly afraid of ending up in a coma.

But there is an ocean of good flicks out there tha aren't Nolan or superhero. Burning (2018), Talk To Me (2023) are two films I've seen recently which were fantastic

        • Ok I'll check those two out, thanks.

  • Dark Knight is the greatest movie of all time.

    • Love it wholly. And mostly agree but it’s hard to beat Forrest Gump. Or even Back to the Future!

      • +1

Have you seen Come And See?
        Parasite?
        Stalker?
        Persona?
        Cure?
        Autumn Sonata?
        Oldboy?

        • Guess not 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • Tenet has to be one of the best movies I've ever seen.
Completely blows my mind how well executed it was.

    • +2

      My condolences

  • The Prestige
    The Dark Knight
    Batman Begins
    Interstellar
    The Dark Knight Rises
    Inception
    Dunkirk
    Tenet

    My ranking from the list.
But yet his best movie is Memento

  • The Prestige is so underrated!

  • Definitely thinking of buying this, if only to rip them once and never use them again.

Any downsides to these particular Blu-Ray versions feature-wise?

  • Oh I love it!

  • +2

I think this has expired now.

    • Updated! Thanks

  • I went into Sanity when they were closing down and asked if they had any 4K movies left and was handed Tenet , having never heard of it I bought , and to be honest I actually enjoyed it , as an original storyline , and visually it was fun .
Had no idea what was happening and look forward to rewatching .
Now had I known the same guy made inception , I might not have bothered , but liked interstellar , so who knows .
