  • +8

Would this be good for an investment with high yield?

    • +2

I remember the time a $80k car was a high yield investment. Now you also get the benefit of inflation.

  • The people you know that "paid a fair bit more for a drive-away Maserati" might have actually got a real Maserati rather than an overpriced whitegoods SUV with a shiny badge.

    • +1

I know, right. It's like buying a Lamborghini tractor thinking the badge is the important thing, not the vehicle.

      • +1

But…without the tractor…there would be no Lamborghini today. So if anything that Lambo tractor is now a collectible worth more than any car line up. Which is the bargain now?

      • +1

I've driven a Lamborghini tractor before!

    • rather than an overpriced whitegoods SUV with a shiny badge.

that's exactly what they want and why it sells. people want the badge, on a car that looks and works like every other SUV.
it becomes their top seller so all luxury car brands are doing it now.

4 cyclinder 2L Maserati? Seems a bit anemic for a Maserati?

    • +12

You’re not going to like what they did with the new c63 then…

      • +4

        Yuck.

        • But before you get disappointed at an engine half the size of the old one, you should know that this inline-four will be augmented by a 201-hp electric motor and uses an electric turbocharger to reduce turbo lag. The new high-performance plug-in hybrid propulsion system will pump out a massive 671 horsepower

I had your reaction as well, and then I read this.

          • -1

@ThadtheChad: So why not go full electric?

          • +1

@ThadtheChad: Power figures look good on paper, but most manufacturers haven't been able to translate this to a good driving experience (in line with sports or performance car/SUV expectations). The extra weight is problematic, and vehicle dynamics are as important as the car's ability to pick up speed.

      • +2

As per your link, new 2.0L c63 is actually 0.7s quicker to 0-60 miles than the outgoing 4.0L twin turbo V8, while returning better fuel economy.

        • +1

burning 15-30L/100KM is not fun IMO

          • @TightAl: Completely agree. If I could get the same performance without the fuel consumption, I'd be 100% onboard with this.

Have a 3L v6 turbocharged petrol at half the horses of the c63 (348hp) and city driving is over 15L/100Km. It's only long distances/highway driving where it goes to 10L/100Km…

              • @Orrelljet: Yeah the SQ5. Love it to bits, but by jove the fker drinks fuel like its going out of fashion.

It's really strange but I get much better mileage with 98 fuel vs 95, but it becomes a complex math problem to understand what is more economical cheaper 95 with relatively poorer mileage or exy 98 with better mileage.

                • +1

@ThadtheChad: We have the same car. Ours is getting on in mileage (88K) and those Maserati service prices are quite close to Audi I reckon. Brakes and transmission servicing are not cheap.

                  • @Orrelljet: We managed to get 3 years of free service via audi corporate and then used a 2 year "top up" to get it to 5 years. So still haven't really paid for a full service.

Even the prices of the Maserati are so close, IIRC the fully loaded SQ5 was a bit over 140k with onroad costs.

                    • +2

@ThadtheChad: Brakes are at 70k and trans at 90k (we did ours a smidge early). Best of luck my friend :-)

                      • +1

@Orrelljet: Thank you very much. We're a loooooooooong way away (~20k at the moment).

                        Have a wonderful easter break.

                • +1

                  @ThadtheChad: 98… Always 98 with these cars

        • +1

Yeah, but what made the C63 the C63, and great, was the V8.

Otherwise may as well just be a C43 or something.

          • +1

@MonkDog: Yes, because at the time there was no alternative to increase performance without increasing engine cylinders and displacement. This isn't the case anymore.

Most people will take faster car with better fuel economy over a slower gas guzzling V8 any day of the week.

There’s only one type of person who buys a Maserati - and that’s those who can’t afford a Ferrari or Lamborghini.

        • Think it was Frank Sinatra who said something along the lines of "You buy a Ferrari when you want to be somebody, and you buy a Lamborghini when you are somebody."

      • Tonale is actually quite a bit smaller than this in length

  • Serious question. Is this faster than a Tesla Model Y Performance?

    • -1

In a quarter mile, no. Around 5 laps of the Nurburgring, yes.

      • +9

I live my life a quarter mile at a time…For those ten seconds or less, I'm free.

        • +6

You almost had me? You never had me - you never had your car. Granny shifting, not double clutching like you should. You're lucky that 100-shot of NOS didn't blow the welds on the intake. Almost had me? Now me and the mad scientist are going to have to rip apart the block, and replace the piston rings you fried. Ask any racer, any real racer. It don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning.

          • +4

@pizzip: Hector is going to be running 3 Honda Civics with spoon engines. And on top of that he just came into Harry's and he ordered 3 T66 turbos, with NOS, and a Motec system exhaust.

      • -2

Would love whoever downvoted to explain their reasoning. Could a Model Y run five laps full-pace around the Nurburgring? Not a chance.

        This Quora post: https://www.quora.com/How-many-laps-of-LeMans-could-a-Tesla-…

…Finds the Model Y could do five laps of de la Sarthe (approx. 13km) before hitting zero and needing to be recharged. That's approximately 65km, or the equivalent of 3.2 laps of the Nurburgring. To charge from single-digits to the approximately 50% needed to complete the remaining two laps might take in the order of 30-40 minutes using a supercharger. Without wasting any more time crunching the numbers, it's clear the Y wouldn't finish the challenge before the Maserati.

        • You've probably been down voted because it's a very old Quora post.

For highway journeys over 300km, yes.

    • +1

I've owned and driven a shitload of cars. Once you go even halfway performant electric, any ICE car feels sluggish

    • There arent many SUV's which are faster than a Model Y Performance. And not one for the price anywhere near Model Y Performance

Agree. Maserati has been moving down market. Everyone wants to compete with BMW it seems.

      • +1

I would go with two Tiguan Rs over this

        • +1

Yes, but the Maserati will get you a hot looking girl or two.

        • +1

          Datsun 120Y or no deal!

          • @hawktalk: Just for clarity - what type of girl would a Datsun get me?

            • @JeBs: The type of girl who would jump a guy driving a Datsun would actually be another guy who drives a Datsun.

            • @JeBs: Bogan's!!

Not with the dual clutch clusterduck of a gearbox. I know two of my mates who sold their's for the shitty gearbox alone.

  • This or the BMW M3?

    • Do hot girls go for men with M3s?

      No.

So basically, it’s all about sex with highly attractive women that have low IQs and are looking for a sugar daddy of sorts - and whether that’s important to you. If your answer is yes, consider a sports coupe and avoid the SUV at all costs.

      • +1

So basically, it’s all about sex with highly attractive women that have low IQs and are looking for a sugar daddy of sorts

In my experience, fancy cars only attract teenage boys. Teenage boys love fancy cars, and it's natural to think that whatever 'I' like is what everyone else likes, but as you get older you learn that women are completely different animals.

        • Yeah that's why I roll around in a 1992 Toyota Tarago packed with soccer gear pumping Aqua Barbie Girl. Indicating my fertile loins, readiness to transition into full soccer dad while heavily laden with responsibility!!

          • -1

            @Smol Cat:

            Indicating my fertile loins,

Well the opposite is equally not important either. Because men tend to be object-oriented and women tend to be people-oriented. So any car type, good bad or otherwise is equally meaningless to most women. Being men we like cars (objects), but women simply don't care.
A sense of humour and good conversation will get you a lot further than any car.

        • Do the women not like your extreme right wing approach?

Not sure women would like you calling them 'animals' either.

      • Do hot girls go for men with M3s?
        No.

How did you come to that conclusion, what happened? Did you change to Toyota camey after?

Definitely get a cx60 or cx90 instead of this

  • I don't know man if your spending this kind of money on a car I don't' think its worth getting a petrol car. Unless you own your own track and like to race these cars but even then its an SUV!! its not even a race car lol its a over priced van lol. this only does 0 to 100km in 5.3 seconds Telsa model Y long range can do 0 to 100km in 4.4 seconds and it cost half the price lol.

    • That Tesla version is 80k AUD. I Think you're looking at something else.

      • prices vary from state to state depending on what they offer, its still not 139,000 and its still faster than the car listed here. SO……. again not sure what your trying to do.
