  • Very nice discount on the Carbon, for the others I'd wait on the regular 10% /15% and pick my own config

  • I want the E530 with an SSD option.
They have at least offered the higher res now without automatically adding another device.

  • +2

  • Just got an email from CotD, thought others might be interested (if they are looking at these Lenovos), seems ok-ish but kind of heavy.

  • X1 is quite tempting at that price and spec

  • Ever since Lenovo changed their warranty/support provider, they're so crap that they're not worth buying from - even though they might be cheap.

    • what do you mean? I am tempted to get a T430

      • IBM used to do Lenovo's support, and they were really efficient. Couriered parts out to you before you had to ship them back, picked up machines for repair etc.

They've shifted the contract. Now you deal with US support, they NEVER ring you back, their online help system is useless (since they open new tickets when they feel like so you can't track YOUR machine through the system).

I've got two mates who went through the process in the last two months. One they LOST his notebook for 3 weeks (sent it to the wrong state), the other they want > $700 to repair a 15 month old X series Thinkpad with an EEPROM fault they've known about in their forums. He's going the Statuatory Warranty route on that one.

Thinkpads used to be the biz.. not any more. (See the Carbon X1 thread on Whirlpool for examples).

  • I ordered a X1 just over 3 weeks ago, and I am still waiting. The web site says 6 day for despatch and 5 for delivery(the site still says the same). I've called a couple of times for update and they say they are waiting for a motherboard? Asked why the site still gives 6 days for despatch ? Not happy Jan. All they have said, is I should expect delivery towards end of the month. So just be aware you can't trust there web site to be accurate.
