Good price, save $10 with kogan amex offer :)

    • +5

and a tenner back in Kogan credit if you do a free trial of First (or, god forbid if you pay for it)

    • +1

      Doesnt work for kogan mobile

      • +2

What happens if you buy from Kogan.com.au website. I dont think Amex will look at the invoice or product purchased.

    • Anyone having issues paying with Amex?

      I keep getting an error

      • Same. Tried with two different AmEx cards and both have an error

      • +1

        Mine worked

    • Form Amex.
Excludes purchases made at all Kogan Essentials websites (including, but not limited to, Kogan Mobile, Kogan Internet, Kogan Energy, Kogan Credit Card, Kogan Insurance, Kogan Pet Insurance, Kogan Life Insurance, Kogan Travel, Kogan Cars and Kogan Super).

      • +1

But isn't this from Kogan.com directly?

        • Yea exactly

          • @cloudy: I just bought via Amex and it worked for me.

            • @Xishnik: Thanks for sharing, maybe I’ll contact amex

              • @cloudy: Did you contact amex? what is the outcome, I am also unable to pay using Amex

                • @SnoozeAndLose: I couldn’t use amex to buy gift cards but I was able to buy this mobile deal. So didn’t contact them.

            • @Xishnik: That's good to know. I will then use my amex rather than kogan cc.

  • +1

Can i buy now and activate in 2 months time?

The unique Kogan Mobile voucher included as part of this product cannot be redeemed for cash. Voucher must be purchased by 11:59PM AEST on 28/04/2024. Voucher expires at 11:59PM AEST on 31/05/2024.

      • I see, I guess you have until 31/05/2024 to activate after purchase

      • -1

Can you refund just in case?

  • +1

Can you pay by Kogan gift card?

    • +3

      yes

    • Given a few credit cards currently offer $10 off $50, seems you could potentially get this deal for $80 by getting two gift cards loaded into your account (?)

      • it is what i am planning to do

        • did getting two giftcards work for you?

      • +1

I just bought one $50 gift card and paid the remaining $50 with the credit card

        • Which card did you use to buy $50 gift card?

I got CBA and Amex offers, but kept getting payment error with both card for buying Kogan gift cards.

        • i am having problem using amex to buy gift card

        • I was just able to do what @gtr80y did with two amex's too…

  • Anyone have experience with Kogan mobile on Vodafone network? good deal just don't know if I could get signal where I am.

    • +2

Depends where you are. Can’t compare with Telstra

      • +2

Funnily enough where I live VF is faster than Telstra, especially when school finishes and kids get home (on a weekday, doesn't happen on weekends).

        • -4

Cool, but it's not really a "mobile" connection if you can only achieve those speeds at home.

          • @mangolassi: I use it primarily for LTE backup so that's fine with me

      • +1

Well, as we all know, it depends on where you live and use your phone, with any mobile network. I'm almost never without coverage where I travel on Vodafone.
My bank account prefers Vodafone or Optus, also ;)

    • +1

Perfect signal all east coast cbds and surrounds (10km out from cbd).

      • Was fine for me in Brisbane. I thought call quality was better than Optus/telstra - no idea why that could be though.

I’ll switch back when my current plans ends if still cheap as need esim.

        • It is better than Telstra and Optus in many urban areas.

        • If you see SOS at WWS and Coles in Canberra, you will be amazed.

    • I was with Kogan for a year and couldn't wait to be off it. Western side of Melbourne and even through the CBD the signal and speeds were atrocious. I used to think optus was bad but Vodafone is in their own league of horrible, at least in this part of Vic.

      • +1

Not sure how far west you are, but my wife and I are on Kogan and Optus respectively.

Kogan is consistently better for reception, though both have black spots in certain shopping spots.

In the city both were fine, but I’m not trying to stream 4K or anything in the city, just surfing whilst waiting etc…

    • Decent signal in Melbourne CBD. Horrible signal underground in basements and high up in buildings. Much worse than Optus.

    • +1

For me its the best reception out of all companies at home. I have a Vodafone tower down the street. So check where the nearest tower is to you. That's the major point. I haven't had any issues in cities or suburbs. Only once when I was at a friends place that is deep in the hills.

    • +2

Maybe get a $2 sim or a free e-sim to test out at your area?

  • Not reliable reception so switching to Boost very soon. Also, the internet speed is pathetic.

    • -1

Agreed reception was crap. I was with Kogan before switching to Boost. Best decision ever, you won't regret it.

      • What plan are you currently using?

    • +2

I moved to Boost recently and their internet speed is pathetic in some of the suburbs in Melbourne :(

  • +1

Make sure your phone works with volte. If it doesn't then voda is useless

    • -1

I would have thought the majority if not all of 4G phones would feature volte?. I mean what good would a 4G smartphone be without volte as it pretty much defeats the purpose of 4G. If you can't get a volte connection on the Vodafone network then the carrier could purposely blocking a volte connection from happening as some smartphones are blocked on the network due to some security concern. The phone having to be on their approved device list.

Pretty much make sure that you're phone brand and model is on their approved device list to get volte support on their network or else it might be carrier blocked.

      • +1

Some Xiaomi redmi phones don't work. 4g and dual sim but they don't work on voda.

        • Yes they don't work because Vodafone blocks all Xiaomi devices (like i said probably due to some security concern). You won't find any Xiaomi devices on the approved devices list. No 4G connection so it is useless.

          • +1

@hollykryten: That's not true. Xiaomi redmi note 10 pro works and they have confirmed other models do too…

            • @Chocobros: It may work at the moment because Vodafone hasn't yet put it in the blocked list. But if they do you'd find that phone won't work any more. There are no Xiaomi on the approved devices list so therefore not officially supported for 4G or 5G. Not guaranteed to work and keep on working in the future.

This is what it says from the approved devices PDF. In other words if it's not on the list then it's not guaranteed to work or keep on working in the future.

"Vodafone SIM cards & eSIMs that are used in non-approved devices may be suspended by Vodafone unless
Vodafone has otherwise given approval in writing. Vodafone may also block any such device from being used
              on the Vodafone Network."

              • +1

@hollykryten: I'm telling ya it's not true. I know because I was using redmi note 9 pro and it stopped working so had to deal with their customer support.

They must have another list as they rattled off a list of xiaomi phones that do work with their network since turning off 3g. Despite the note 9 pro being 4g they blamed it on no volte and under settings there was vowifi but no volte. I'm no expert in this though. I had access to a xiaomi note 10 pro so tried it in there and it worked fine

                • @Chocobros: Yeah i guess Vodafone has been a bit slow at blocking the redmi note 10 pro.

Also there's a difference between "currently tend to work" and "what's on the approved devices list". As in "currently tend to work at the moment" and what's officially supported on the network isn't the same. You could wake up tomorrow only to find the phone having no more signal connection.

And there is no list of Xiaomi phones that Vodafone has. Xiaomi is not even on the support for devices page. Vodafone gives absolutely no support for this brand. Probably due to some concern over having deep roots in China.

                  https://devices.vodafone.com.au/

                  • @hollykryten: Yh to be fair they sounded like they were searching something when they told me the xiaomi devices that worked so maybe they will be blocked later. Idk 🤔

I'll try and test again on redmi note 10 pro and postback here if it still works

      • It's dangerous suggesting that 'the majority if not all' 4G phones feature VoLTE. It's simply not true, and even if the phone supports VoLTE it might not be compatible with the network people try to use it with. I have a drawer full of devices with 4G stamped on them that don't support VoLTE. Two Samsung flagship phones work with VoLTE in India but not Australia. VoLTE is a sometimes a software implementation so certain ROMs support it when others do not.

A potentially life-threatening situation exists where a device purchased through one carrier is not compatible with another network and fails to function when the SIM card is swapped, or fails in case of emergency where e.g. a Vodafone 4G VoLTE compatible device cannot make 000 calls to a Telstra tower when Vodafone has no nearby towers.

Tech Man Pat released this video recently describing the issue, where just because a phone works with 4G VoLTE on one network doesn't guarantee it will work with other carriers, and this was never mentioned during the years-long "3G is ending, upgrade to 4G before it's too late" campaigns:
        https://youtu.be/s0GoNxKn81M

I just spent 10 minutes searching and can't find a single article or any indication that Vodafone deliberately blocks certain Xiaomi devices due to security concerns. If you can provide proof of your claim I'm happy to read it, but more likely the VoLTE protocol included with the Xiaomi phone is incompatible with Vodafone's implementation so it simply doesn't work.

Damn it, signed up to this last week at full price. Do they have price protection?

    • Same, here's their response - Thanks for getting in touch.

After looking over your order, unfortunately, we would be unable to honour a price drop for your request.

I understand that this is not the response that you were after and it's unfortunate that we cannot accommodate your request on this occasion.

  • That makes this about the cheapest esim plan now? I don’t believe amaysim are doing many deals these days.

  • Question, i have a kogan plan already, if i got this with esim, would my phone operate off two numbers? TIA

  • I activated the promo $5 eSIM (Small plan) early this month.

I now logged in to Kogan Accounts portal > Recharge > "I have an email with a voucher code". It shows me this error You cant redeem a voucher on this plan, your plan is automatically renewed from nominated card

Anyone had this same issue before?

    • +1

Kogan deliberately disabled voucher recharge in case discounted voucher abused.
You will have to call the Kogan mobile callcentre to apply the voucher manually.

    • You might have "Auto-renew" turned on, which you'll need to disable first before you can use the voucher code.

Log in to your Kogan Mobile account then I believe you tap the three-lines at top left to open the website menu, then tap "Payment Methods" and you can remove your credit card to cease auto-renew.

      • There is no option to disable Auto Renew or remove saved credit card, only update it with a new one.

Like TripleJJJ said above, probably will have to call their call centre to apply manually.

  • what is the international call?

    • Not included

  • FFS I just bought at $115 yesterday.

I have commbank yello cashback $10 for $50 spend on kogan but it has the same exclusion as amex posted by others. Just wonder this is also on kogan.com and how does bank know if I buy sim plan??

    • Amex doesn’t exclude buying from Kogan which this is.

So I bought it and got instant confirmation of $10 back.

What I hope to do was to buy 2x Kogan gift cards and use gift cards to pay for this, but Amex stops me.

      • So using Amex cannot buy giftcards off Kogan.com? Wanted to buy 2 x $50 (2 Amex cards) to get $20 cashback.

But we can use Amex to buy this Sim off kogan.com and get $10 cashback?

        • +1

          yes and yes

        • I bought 1 $50 gift card with amex no problems. Then paid the remaining $50 with the amex card. Total $80

          • @gtr80y: Damn… I tried with 3 different cards (2x AmEx and 1x CommBank) multiple times over a few hours and all got rejected by Kogan. Ended up swapping 1x $50 gift card from Superswap and then Amex the remainder.

    • Also, your bank won’t know your buying a sim plan

      • Well I bought it soon after I commented, and in the pending transaction on commbank I can see my order number in description. Usually takes three to four days for commbank to notify I’m eligible for cashback so I’ll wait and see. Still good deal even if I can’t get cashback

        • Commbank said I'm getting the $10 cashback. Yay!

          • @RTY: So just to clarify, you bought using your CBA card directly from kogan.com and it successfully gave you the $10 cashback afterwards?

Am looking to do the same thing.

            • @Shekster: It’s now in claimed section and the actual money should arrive in a few days

    • Seems Kogan has blocked Commbank and AmEx from buying gift cards, probably coz they know this workaround.

  • I'm looking for a cheap long-term SIM with minimum data. Any option?

    • +1

this is the cheapest as far as I konw

      • -1

Still too much. I don't need data, but need long expiry. Maybe Pay as You Go is a better option for me

        • +2

Aldi has a Pay as you go. "Pay only for what you use. Ideal for occasional use with a long 365 day expiry on PAYG Top Ups.
3-in-1 SIM card fits all phones. Comes with $5 credit (60 day expiry) included."

          • -1

            @HeDanny: @HeDann
I didn't get it. If it is 365 days expiry, what is that 60 days expiry?
I want a SIM to have it for one year, whilst being able to send and receive SMS, calls for 365 days. Also be able to use data if needed (minor)

        • +1

$60 amaysim unlimited call and text for 1 year, no data.

    • +1

Lebara and amaysim has payg plan. I am using Lebara with boost mobile prepaid for my data

  • just used my amex $10 credit, thank you so much

  • Any deals for 500gb?

  • Is Vodafone network any good in Sydney? Thinking of switching from amaysim

  • I've been with Boost and love their Visual Voicemail, which is sent as an audio MMS/RCS in my Samsung Message app.

However, their plan has been getting more and more expensive. Do you know of any cheaper alternative plans that have this feature? Thanks
