  • Are there any generic Joy-Con's that are decent?

Also, has anyone replaced the parts on a Joy-Con to fix stick drift? How difficult is it?

Generic joy-cons are a waste of money imo and its unfortunate nothing works as great as the joy con besides going pro controller or if you handheld alot maybe the hori but I've stuck to the joy cons

I have an original set joy cons with 3000+ hours - have taken apart the actual analog stick to clean the inside (broke the clips but the original joy con sticks have tabs that can hold the clip in place)

I've only had to clean about 2 times - what happens is the dirt/dust may accumulate on the contacts affecting drift (where one area of contact is always made hence the drift) a bit of clean with isopropyl alcohol usually fixes this up

Process I say is not easy if you never done this before (it took me like 2-3 hours first time because man everything is so small and delicate, lots of ribbon cables that can tear easily if not careful and slow) I've gotten to opening and cleaning the joy stick to ~40 mins (most of the time is trying to fit the clip/joy stick back together again)

Was considering another pair but the battery life is still holding up on my joy cons

just had a pair repaired no charge..
registered on Nintendo support/warranty and got shipping label, replacement joycons recieved a couple of weeks later

      • Any idea if I can do this if the Switch was bought secondhand?

    • I bought some generics off Amazon (Mengtech) because I was a bit jack of having to replace joycons for my kids. Of course my kids give them a good punish but it's actually the syncing and charging issues that have affected us most (only had mild stick drift once out of 3 replaced sets).

So far they are behaving exactly like normal Joycons after about 1 month; we'll see how long they last. But at far less than half price (~$42) I thought it was worth a punt.

By comparison I've had an Xbox and PS since 2018 and never had to replace one of those controllers.

      • Thanks for letting us know, I might order a pair too.

I need a couple of extra ones anyway for my four kids to play Just Dance 😆

      thanks updated!

  • I inherited a switch from a friend and a couple of the joy cons have drift. Kind of insane how expensive they are. Dunno why but in my mind they'd be less than a PS5 dualsense? But those drop down to $70ish from time to time. These don't seem to get under $100?

    • Welcome to the world of Nintendo where everything is overpriced and never gets discounted

i just got emailed a code from Good Guys about "Click Frenzy" for a further $20 off $100 minimum spend, which brings it down to $81 for the Joy Cons

    • Does it look like a generic code? I didn't get any email about this :(

      • Don’t think it’s generic, but if you want mine, pm me

Honestly go 8bitdo ultimate with hall effect. Pro controller is good but it will start to drift after 2-300 hours gauranteeed

    • +1

I’ve had mine since launch and easy have 1000+ hrs on it and no stick drift. It’s not to say they don’t have it but I wouldn’t say “guaranteed”

      • It's nothing like the joycon. And 300hours might be a bit short. But it will happen.

  • I doubt this. I haven't seen one yet that doesn't have some drift. It may just be slight and intermittent
