The picture is deceptively showing non-sushi roll items.

    lots of fine print lol

$29 for all-you-can-eat sushi for two people ($149 value)
$55 for all-you-can-eat sushi for four people ($298 value)
$79 for all-you-can-eat sushi for six people ($447 value)
$99 for all-you-can-eat sushi for eight people ($596 value)

The value is absolute BS. Normally $75 per person? Whatever.

Agreed! They always mark it much higher to meet the discount criterion of these websites. So crafty are the merchants!
Anyway, I still go for it since most of the groupbuy dining deals I bought before were quite satisfactory :)

I can eat a lot. But $75 worth of sushi?!!! Even in an expensive place, that's about 35 pieces.

In combination with the "Valid for 90-minute …" you might only get a few small servings, depends on their preparation speed, who knows. Meehh.

As a rule I am now staying clear of restaurant deals. Here's my experience:
    1. They have extremely limited bookings. The last one only had 2 bookings per night, and 2 for lunch.
    2. They change the rules after purchase
    3. They treat customers who use coupons with lower service.

My last experience was at Kinsei in Brisbane. The manageress made it difficult to make a booking. We had to book 2 weeks in advance, even though there were clearly seats available on the night. I enquired is she needed the coupon code when I made the booking (showing her my iPhone) and she said just mention the code on the night and show her the iPhone again. On the night we were denied our seat because we had not printed out the coupon. I checked later, and could not see where that was written down, but I admit it could be somewhere because luckily after running around the shopping centre looking for an internet kiosk I remembered I had printed it at work and it was in my briefcase in the car!

When we were seated they seated us at the dining tables, NOT the sushi bar/train. The fine print on the coupon I had printed clearly stated we would be seated at the sushi bar. I enquired why we were not seated at the bar and they were not able to give an answer, just "this is what the manager has decided". I don't understand why they made us print and present the coupon if they didn't follow what they write on it…

Seating at the dining tables made it difficult to order sushi and we were only allowed to pick from a very limited number of sushi on a menu they brought out. I've dined here before and know this is not the full sushi menu, but a selection of their lower priced sushi. This was confirmed later when none of the plates were ordered was the more expensive colours. Again, the coupon stated we were allowed sushi to to the maximum amount.

On the limited menu, the fine print was we were only able to order 1 dish at a time. I was quite frustrated with this and they agreed we would be allowed to order more than 1 dish. I'm glad they broke this rule for us. Needless to say, their service was extremely slow and it not as enjoyable as picking plates off the sushi train as we were led to believe we would be allowed to do.

Another time we never made it to the restaurant because we were never allowed to make a booking. They seem to always be booked out and couldn't tell us when they next booking will be available.

    /END RANT

Not a rant, an honest and factual explanation about one of the reasons why these deal sites are going to go 'bust' (and why the restaurants are loosing customers).

I've eaten here with my hubby on a similar deal and the sushi was nothing to write home about… I can't recommend this place.

    • Frankly if they can make a profit on a person for $29, of which the deal site takes 30-50%, then I don't want to eat there.

Seeing Australian Dollars are quite strong at the moment,I don't understand why sushi buffet is so expensive in Australia? When I was in Canada, a sushi buffet lunch (many hot food and Sushi to choose from) with no time limit @ Richmond Sushi (there are a few in Vancouver and prices are similar) only costs $13 CAN (regular price and dinner costs $20-$25 CAN) back then (10 years ago) and the price hasn't increased much since then.

  • I've seen good urbanspoon reviews on this restaurant.

    Please show me these REVIEWS.

You should read the reviews at Eatability.com.au

Not going to be a bargain.

Good luck with your meal anyway.

  • the only japanese restaurant worth going back after using these coupon is Samurai Sushi.

What I've noticed is the places that do a good job tend to retain customers and don't need to offer coupons again. Unfortunate though.

  • this place would go belly up if i got this deal as i love eating sushi.. lots of it but too many rules and guidelines has turned me off this deal, i mean ordering and finishing that plate before the next one ? i can guarantee when the first plate comes out that they would need to send the next plate out that very minute lmao.

Gotta neg this restaurant based on my experience.

Had another deal last time which is "2 entrees, 2 main and 2 desserts" deal. End up utterly disappointed!

(Un)luckily what we ordered is exactly the "same item" as what the table next to us (which was not using the voucher). As stated in the menu, including sushi, does not come with what we ordered but it was included at the other table ordered! To make the matter worse, the ingredients and portions are different!

I think the restaurant owners, not only this Zen at Randwick should consider what they are doing is not actually helping their business but deteriorate the reputation of themselves.

Neg as I've been treated like cr*p simply because I used a coupon. They treat you like crap, slow serving speed & don't smile or any kind of customer service when paying, or communicating with staff.

Also, is not the first-time groupon has screwed me either, I would double neg if I could.

    • Exactly what I experienced as well.

I believe the business of this restaurant isn't that good. We were there to literally "keep the boat floating" and being treated like that.

    • The only place that treated me well with coupons is Little Snail in Darling Harbour. Besides that, all else treated me like crap and given me crap food!

      • Fishtail in North Adelaide (SA) - all you can eat buffet was really good as well.

The worst one was West Thebarton Hotel at Thebarton (SA).
Service for customers with a voucher like me was extremely bad. And they interpret vouchers whatever way they want. It was so negative experience that I even did not argue with them when they charged ~$15 more than they are suppose to. Their attitude was just like you have stolen money from them.

        • I went there today, food was disappointing. Even though the crappy chicken schnitty includes salads, there was nothing left in the salad bar!

        • Where did you go ? Fishtail OR West Thebarton Hotel ?
From your comment I would assume the latter.

        • West Thebarton Hotel.
Schnitty from the Hilton Hotel (not the one near Victoria Square) was pretty damn good and huge.

  • The inflated 'value' itself is worth negging

    • Agreed
