  • Big W pretty consistently are the cheapest on the release of new consoles and games.

    • +1

When I last cared about new released (around 6 years ago) they were also the poorest on stock, only a few items for advertised sales. No idea of this is still the case.

      • So… we'll see you there then yeah Bruce? ;)

that was 6 years ago… I doubt many retailers are going to have much initial stock at first but at least Big W is allowing you to pre-order at this price online.

        • I will certainly not be there. I like the idea of the Wii U control, but I'm pissed off because I bought a Wii and DS because there were hints they would do it with these.

…and there is no technical reason why they didn't. Or let the 3DS work as a controller for the Wii U. The code uploading on the DS over wifi was a great system which was sadly neglected.

I also bought a Wii off the greatness of Wii sports - not realising that no other Wii title would ever beat this. At least they gave it to you for free.

Being my first Ninendo systems I did enjoy the Zelda/Metroid games, but then played some of the older games and realised that they were all the same, and hence lost any interest in newer versions.

          tl;dr: Don't care about Wii U.

        • Sure Nintendo could have done this with existing technology, but that would be less money for them from people buying a new console, and then you would have the problem of aging hardware, so why not do both at once. They wouldn't want another Gamecube / GBA controller situation where nobody was aware or cared.

        • Sure, it makes sense to have new hardware now, but 6 years ago it would have been good (and well ahead of the curve).

        • +2

There's a game that's better than Wii Sports. Wii Sports Resort. :)

        • +2

Two words - Mario Kart! :)

        • Made especially for 'U'!
'U' are in the drivers seat.
          'U' wanna play too?

They still are. Not just with consoles either.

You can also get $20 off online with XMASEDM20

    • Damn, that makes purchasing it VERY hard to resist.

      • +8

To resist the temptation, you need to stop coming here.

        • Haha, you are right.

Perhaps my post will help a little?

    • Good find!

    • +1

dude u just saved me 20 bucks! thanks soo much!!, too bad the code for $40 doesnt work anymore

    • Thank you! This code worked for me

  • Per orders starting to come up in US for another wii console the wii mini!

Which seems to be exclusive to Canada only at the moment?

    • It is just an old Wii in a smaller case, nothing exciting here.

        • Standard Wii has been listed here with MarioKart a couple of times for just under $100.

        • If anyone is after a cheap wii, the current model seems more attractive; also looks like it might be discontinued soon with this announcement. The 'wii-ni' also has no wifi if what I read atm is correct.

        • yeah it has no wifi and no gamecube support

        • Given that it is already selling for less than the mini and is a better product, I expect they'll just stop making it and it will be replaced by the mini.

You might get a good deal, but I wouldn't expect super bargains.

        • Another simple marketing strat; make the previous iteration seem inferior so that it makes the current model more attractive hence making ppl fork out more moulah for the higher unit. They're doing this by replacing current wii with 'mini' vs 'U'.

      • The damn thing looks like a Game and Watch handheld.

        Id say thats pretty exciting.

        • Smaller is good, but no wifi! If someone in the wii scene could hack it to support usb wifi it might justify a purchase, but the online support in the software side of things will probably be removed too, so again someone would have to create a custom FW (based on the architecture)…too much trouble IMHO, but not to say no one going to do it. Anyway all this is still speculation atm.

    • Cmon kids, play nice!

  • +1

Still finding it hard to justify a purchase for this, as the games don't look all that great. Also considering for gaming I already have an Xbox, PS3, Wii, DS, PC, 3DS and a PSP maybe it's just the lack of time to enjoy gaming that I'm struggling with.

What's the killer must have title on this?

    • Time to trade in my friend, your consoles are near end of life

      • +2

To be honest, the Wii U is nore of a current-gen console than next-gen, it's a big jump up from the Wii in terms of hardware but it's basically a sidegrade from the PS3 and 360. So far the games that have been ported to the Wii haven't performed very well. But ported games are usually lacklustre so take it with a grain of salt.

    • What's the killer must have title on this?

Any of the 1st party titles, but ultimately depends on what type of gamer you are & which genre/s you're interested in.

    • +1

That's the only thing holding me back at the moment. If there was even one killer must have title, I'd be sold.

      • +1

Might have to wait for Zelda U or Smash Bros U then…

        • Do any of these big name titles have a launch date?

Really like the idea of playing games on the gamepad, whilst the mrs watches TV.

        • I'm guessing Smash Bros will be the end of next year. The next zelda game might take a while as they only finished skyward sword this time last year and that took 5 years to develop.

        • I forgot about Mario Kart U. Any news on that?

        • i haven't heard any news on Mario kart but it should be coming soon as well as the next metroid

        • Now I have to buy it.

    • +2

I'm getting one purely for New Super Mario Bros U… nothing else interests me, and it's a lot to spend just for one game, but it'll work with my existing Wii games, and there might be some of the downloadable titles I'm interested in.

      • +1

Same here! The new super mario is the main reason for me getting one. Was the reason why I bought an original wii :)

  • Has anyone ordered from their last deal?

Is it possible for me to cancel it and swap it out for this one? Surely as a pre-order price we'll be eligible to get the cheaper one :/

    Ughh! :'(

    • Great find! Ordered from the previous deal ($388 Big W), cancelled, reordered and saved myself $30.

Had to cancel as they were only willing to offer the $10 difference (ie without applying the code).

      • My order has partially shipped (the Wii U Glove) so I'm not sure if they'd let me cancel as easily… Although AusPost tracking information indicates that shipping information was received and it hasn't actually shipped. Sent an email and about to call them now.

        Good luck to everyone else.

        • I was in the same situation and they cancelled without issue.

        • Odd, they couldn't cancel mine but she did offer the $10 discount.

She said I'm able to return it in-store no problems so I might just make another order and return the original one to get this discounted price.

        • I cancelled my order and received the refund but they didn't cancel the glove so its being delivered no charge. (But I'll wait until I see it).

So I could buy this - save the $30 and end up with 2 gloves (why I need 2 I don't know)

        • That's what I wanted but apparently they couldn't do that… :(

    • I have ordered my second one for 358 straightaway and will refund my last order once I receive it as they have already shipped over the silicon glove.

  • I have preordered a wii u at Big W for my 10 year old son for xmas as we played one at the eb games expo and he enjoyed it:)

    • eb games expo

Did you see Blunty &/or Charles Martinet?

    • Oh, you mean the flogathon?

  • awesome! thanks santa =D

  • We met Charles Martinet and he signed my son 3ds and signed a Mario poster and we also met Hex and Bajo from Good game and they signed his 3ds also and his Sonic backpack:)

  • Does this come with nintendo land?

    • Only the Premium does.

  • +1

I ordered one, but now it seems like they are readjusting as the site is going to their error page?

edit: never mind, seems they have updated with the silicon glove kit at the same price, oh well, I wouldn't have used it anyways

    • +1

      .

      • I see! Then I definitely have no problems with that

        • I was editing my comment. Using shipping calculator it is free, but the logo isn't present :)

        • All good, my order went through either way, and I didn't need the glove

  • Just ordered one. Cheers!

  • +1

For those of you have already paid for the pre order previously, you can try calling them to get the difference back as my colleque has got $30 back to his credit card. He bought the Wii Premium.

    • I tried and wasn't able to because my Wii U glove had already shipped. The lady I spoke to did offer a $10 refund/gift card though.

      • +1

Forget about the $10 gift card, place another order and do what I mentioned below to save $30, mate. :)

    • For those who already received the FREE Silicon Glove from the pre-order, you can place another order and wait until the first order arrive - unbox it and play - and return the second order when it arrive and bring back to BigW store to get the first order refund! ;)

Edit: The customer service lady ask me to do that.

      • +1

Yup, that's what I plan on doing. Haven't received the Glove yet but it shipped. I ordered another one with the glove in case they want me to return both the console and the glove in-store.

Not too inconvenient but more so than just giving me a $30 refund/card :)

  • +1

    • +2

Hoping the next one is "Console with Silicon Glove, $0 Free!"

    • +4

Also, your list reminds me of C&C:

      "Purchase…cancelled"

      "Buying…cancelled"

      "Transaction complete, new construction options"

      "Training/Building"

      "Player ready/Wii U ready"

      Lol! XD

    • How did you get $40 and $50 off?
How to apply more than I coupon?
      Thanks

    • How do you return online order to BigW?
Thinking about doing the same… :)

  • How does the free silicon glove show on the receipt? As a separate item?

    • +1

      yes, separate item
      *BIGW_8312090 1 Wii U Silicon Glove $14.84

  • Now I'm just torn between the premium or basic pack…

    • You really, really don't want to buy that basic pack. Reduced internal storage, none of the little bonuses and doesn't have the eShop discount.

      • But it's soooo whiiite

      • In regards to storage space, you can plug a 3TB HDD in the USB plug at the back if you want to and use it just like internal space.
        What little bonuses?
eShop discount? Most people don't buy games online because you can't then re-sell them once you've gotten tired of them. But I do see your point, I just don't think most people would utilize this and if they did they'd end up using more than 32GB of storage anyway (the discs are going to be 25GB capacity and also 50GB if I'm not mistaken).

  • I'm not interested in the Wii U, but can someone let me know what the minimum spend is for the $20 online voucher? Can't seem to find it, and if I play around online with the voucher in my cart all it says is 'price will update after payment' grrr…

    • +1

Minimum spend for the $20 off is $100, see: http://www.bigw.com.au/offer/savemore

      • Thank you so much!

      • Interesting they appear to phrase it as if you needed to make an order with the two other codes while they were valid for the current code to apply, but nobody's having any probs..

  • NO option to pick up, dam there delivery is slow for me… is it worth saving $20 over the wait…

Oh, just went to order and the voucher code wont work with the glove.

    • Had to remove the WiiU from checkout and start again.

  • +2

I must have got lucky, the customer service lady I spoke to offered me a $50 gift card on top of the $40 off code pre-order deal. So I'm essentially getting the $40 off code applied to the current price. This plus my previous $100 Wish gift card means I've spent a grand total of just $238 on my shiny new Wii U Premium! Happy days! Thanks OzBargain and Big W. :)

  • Does anyone know if you're able to mirror the tv for all games? Or do they have to specifically support it?

    • Given the low(er) resulotion of the controller, my guess is they have to support it. But I don't think this is available information.

    • +1

Have to specifically support it. Only a couple work on gamepad screen only. Mario, assassins creed, black ops. Maybe a couple of others

  • Where is this $40 off code pre-order deal?

  • +1

lol I have an order from the 24/01/2012 on BigW that is still in "Order Being Processed" :0

    I forgot all about it.

  • Are there many good games coming out soon on the Wii U? Just had a look on metacritic and there doesn't seem to be that many good games out at launch.

    http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/release-date/availabl…

The only game I would buy that is a WII U exclusive game is New Super Mario Bros. U and that only has a average review score of 84.

    • I suppose it could be worth it in the short term to get it if you haven't played Mass Effect 3, Arkham City and a few other top class games that are being ported to the WiiU. But you'll probably be waiting a while for a 5 star exclusive.

Keep in mind that the Wii software lineup is pathetic compared to that of the PS3 and 360, have a look at Wii metcritic scores from 2009 onwards, only four top class games have been released in that period. Personally I wouldn't be buying a WiiU until Nintendo show they can roll out good first and third party games for several years.

      • I hope steam get their act together so I can just play games on ubuntu with the steam client on my TV. That Would Be Awesome!!!

    • Like most Nintendo hardware, I'd probably just pick one up for the inevitable Zelda. Occasionally comes in a gold limited edition so bonus points.

  • For anyone weighing up getting the more expensive model, the memory is usb expandable
