you must read a lot of different comments than I do…. the folks that just neeed 200+KW in an EV, and would simply die if they can't 0=100 in less than xxx seconds.

    • +6

This is one of the best EV vehicles for normal people

What is the best EV for abnormal people? Tesla??

      • +18

        Cyber truck specifically.

        • +2

          šŸ¤£

          • @jv: did you see the cybertruck ā€œsafety updateā€ video?

it got an update because the power of the front trunk thingy would close hard enough to break your hand.

cyber truck updated it so it wouldnā€™t break a finger. then all the abnormal owners filmed themselves deliberately closing it on their finger. but it didnā€™t stop properly like they claimed ouch !

      • +1

Oh no youā€™ll upset the Elon stans.

          • @Cheap Rich Guy: Turns out you can't have common sense when you aren't interested in facts. Shock horror.

          • @Cheap Rich Guy: I think you mean:
            "He voices for commoners cents".

        • +2

I have no problem being labelled abnormal but I'm not a Elon stan. Most Tesla owners aren't.

      • +1

years ago I saw a random ad that claimed to pull out the engine in your car, and replace it with electric powered motor and batteries.

it was cheaper than you would think too canā€™t remember but I guess they keep the engine??

thatā€™s what I think abnormal people would do.

thinking about it now wondering why nobody talks about this option.

        • It was quite costly because of all the custom work to get it working well.
You can look at the YouTube videos of people converting to electric to see how much work it is.
Another thing is the value from insurance and resale was much lower than the cost of the works.

          • @Alexxx:

It was quite costly because of all the custom work to get it working well.

ok I have a terrible memory and I wasnā€™t interested just found it odd but think the price was $1000~$1500. maybe for a small car.
it was cheap if you think about how much electric cars cost.

but I didnā€™t think of the other custom parts. I guess if you just paid for the electric motor other parts might start to break?

    • -5

it's mind boggling…. all those upset girls that got their knickers in a knot for some unknown reason and negged you!

      • I thought that was funny too. -24 at last count.

    • This is one of the best EV vehicles for normal people in the world

Where 'normal people' means you. The other 8 billion people in the world might have a different opinion about what's best for them.

    • So, "normal people" must drive a tiny VW beetlesque hatchback while rich people are meant to drive a 5.4m long $350k+ behemoth.

      Bit extreme no?

There are EVs for every budget now and that is something to celebrate.

    • I think the i7 looks like garbage.

  • +11

I bet lots of EVs will have a big Black Friday sale, so HODL and this might even goes below $30K !!!

        They already do

    • On carsales there were some under $30k new from dealers in regional areas.

  • +10

Hard to see how this is better value then the MG4 51, but still a good option.

    • +2

The extra range may matter for some.

Design comes down to taste, some will prefer the different look of the Ora, others will shy away.

Warranty is better for the MG.

    • +3

MG is ugly, Ora is somewhat interesting

      • +2

I would call the mg fugly, I wouldn't be seen dead in one.

      • MG looks very good in my opinion. The Ora is trying to hard to be retro and fails badly at it.

        • +5

This is why everyone is entitled to their opinion. Me personally, the MG is just just like a Tesla/Mazda/Toyota/Lexus wannabe. All pointy and angular like almost every other car these days. The Ora is quirky but at least it's original. When you see one in a car park you know it's an Ora.

          • -2

@1st-Amendment: Teslas apart from the cyber truck are very rounded and zero angles, so no idea where you get that idea from?
Ora just badly copied old retro styles, so original it is not. Itā€™s hard to emulate a Mini/ VW camper van etc and not just make it look cack.

            • @Buddy195:

              zero angles

It's pretty hard to have anything in 3D space with no angles… Even a curve has an angle of radius. They teach this stuff in school…

so no idea where you get that idea from?

              School.

              • +1

@1st-Amendment: Feel free to state which Tesla resembles an MG4…. I'll keep it simple so you don't take it out of context.

                  @Buddy195:

Feel free to state which Tesla resembles an MG4

I just did. I'll keep it simple so you can follow along…

                  • @1st-Amendment: Maybe you need you eyesight tested? Seeing pointy angular Tesla's, then seeing things you haven't stated.

                    • @Buddy195:

Maybe you need you eyesight tested?

Maybe you need to learn how to read. Feel free to quote the specific things I wrote that are confusing by and I'll try and help you out.

I'll give you a hint, pay close attention to the very first sentence, then see if you can figure out where you are going wrong.

                      • @1st-Amendment: Still swerving and trying to be smart.
Still waiting for the pointy angular Tesla model.

'the MG is just just like a Tesla/Mazda/Toyota/Lexus'

  • they should have named it the (Get Ready With Me) GRWM Ora.
missed opportunity since comments in last deal said they are targeting females with this model.

    • +7

So it takes an hour before its ready to drive ?

      • no real reason other than itā€™s very catchy you have to admit.

the Get ready with me Ora !!

        • It's not catchy at all shrugs

    • Why do you need to explain, are they the kind of people who judge others because their own lives are empty and meaningless?

  • +5

Granted, a lot of my time was spent driving on the freeway (which tends to sap EV driving range) but our car returned a 16.4kWh/100km rating. In my time with the car I saw a driving range closer to 360km compared to the 420km claim.

    • Thanks for the good feedback. Summary poor range.

    • -3

I saw a driving range closer to 360km compared to the 420km claim.

So just like every other EV then. And just imagine after a few years when the battery is worn… expect sub-200km or something ridiculous. The demand for more landfill for old EVs is about to go up…

      • +4

There was a qualification to that 360km claim which was "driving on the freeway". Expect closer to the predicted range in the city at lower speeds.

Also I think your claims regarding battery degradation are exaggerated. https://thedriven.io/2024/09/19/new-study-finds-vast-majoritā€¦

      • How often do you drive 300km in a day

        • If you're paying more for extra range, you'd want every single km advertised

          • +1

@DevonBlaze: Similar to when I pay for my petrol car to have the fuel efficiency on the sticker. But somehow it never has.

      • +1

Look at all the old leafs, nice and cheap for a first car and those are over 10 years old now.

        • -3

Look at all the old leafs

I have. Ranges of old Leafs are under 100km, what a joke.

nice and cheap for a first car and those are over 10 years old now.

No-one is buying these things, you can't give them away. Old Corolla's and i30's however are still selling like hotcakes.

  • +10

Next price drop $29,990 in 6 weeks

    • +2

EVs are cheap to make if you are not lumbered with legacy manufacturing facilities.

The only expensive component is the battery pack and the prices of the battery cells are collapsing with mass production.

      So yeah, could happen.

      • -1

EVs are cheap to make if you are not lumbered with legacy manufacturing facilities.

So why are they still at least 50% more expensive than an ICE car?

Cheapest new ICE car is the MG3 at $19k
Cheapest new EV is the MG4 at $31k

Edit: Changed Kia Picanto for MG3 as it is now the cheapest ICE car in Australia. So even the same company can't make an EV for less the 150% of the price of an ICE equivalent.

    • Already at demo

  • +11

GWM Ora? come on, surely this car should have been a Kia Ora

    • +1

I'd buy an Ora, but only if it was endorsed by Rita Ora.

  • -2

My question may not go well with many, but if you own this car and you happen to write an article or make some anti CCP comments, would you be still be able to use that car next day ?

    • +11

The car will self drive you to a 're-education' camp for a fully catered break of several months.
The vehicle will then return to pick up your family.

      • +2

I thought re-education camps are designed by them are for specific group, and If camps exists in Australia, return (back to pickup spot) cannot be guaranteed…

        • -2

          It's called Victoria

    • +3

would you be still be able to use that car next day ?

          It was a party night,
It was the end of school…

    • Our rego is high and it costs more to ship here, but with these cars there is a bigger state cash back than other states, so I'm the end they're usually cheaper.

  • It started to sound interesting… so I looked. It's a pity they got the work experience student to make the website…. There's more information on the back of a cornflakes packet.
Modest power output suits me…. but it's a shame they're still using fireball batteries…. Until different battery chemistries hit the market, if it's not LiFePO4 I have no interest. I like to keep the flames in the barbeque.

    • +1

Yeah, for the Ora only the base non-extended range model has a LFP battery.

      • thanks for that info… so they're part way there…

        • i think every manufacturer is just expecting turbo nerds to download the pdf brochure and the spec sheet to work out of the next level of option pack is worth the money

No, dumping means selling much lower price than in its country of origin. I'm pretty sure these low end EVs are under $20k Aud in China. We are being ripped off.

Of course, the prices of all Toyota ICTs are also ridiculously expensive.
