    • Also be aware of possible scams out there with these deals. Some people have reported their Apple gift cards were tampered with and they didn't know until after buying them. Some Woolworths and Coles are actually keeping them at the service desk now to minimise this risk. They may also ask to open them up to check if the serial number inside the package matches the one on the outside. They should match. If they don't ask, ask if they let you check before buying them. Or open them up to check at the store (Coles in this case) before leaving.

The past few times I got Apple gift cards off deals like this from Woolworths and Coles, they insisted to check before letting me buy them.

  • Does anyone know if we can use apple account balance or physical GC's to pay off the repairs in apple store?

    • +2

You can use physical Apple gift cards to pay for repairs at the Apple Store. I used three Apple gift cards to pay for an iPhone repair last year. The staff member used a device to scan the gift card code from each gift card to redeem the full or partial balance.

You should be able to use Apple Account Associated Balance to also pay for the repair at the physical Apple Store, but you will need an Apple device supporting Apple Pay to do this. (You can read about this here.

        Thanks mate!

  • newbie question:
I would like to use the apple gift card to purchase a macbook pro; probably $4k+. But the online ordering system said it will only take up to 8 gift cards.

Is it possible to use apple gift cards for this purchase or do I have the option to partly pay by gift cards and partly by CC?

    • +1

You can redeem all your gift cards to your Apple Account via iTunes, allowing you to use the balance for any purchase at checkout.
Remember, the maximum Flybuys points you can claim per day is 50,000, so avoid buying them all in one day

      • Wow!! Thanks!! 🙏

      • Am I able to use Apple balance plus CC if I didn’t buy enough Apple gift cards?

Or do I need to over shoot it?

        • If your balance or gift card isn't enough, the rest will be paid by standard payment (credit card or bank card) at the checkout as well.

  • I am not an apple user but recenlty got an ipad for my kid school use. I need to get applecare and itunes. This apple gift card can use on both? Thanks.

    • Yes, on the website it says it can.

      • I don't think you can buy AppleCare using GiftCards but you can use them for iTunes.

  • +2

Almost went to Coles today (since this OzB post says Today), but realised the promo doesn't start till tomorrow.

  • Sorry to be a complete idiot, but is the idea here to buy the cards, get the bonus FlyBuys points then redeem the points for more Apple gift cards? Or just use the FB points for other stuff?

    • +1

flybuy points are like $10 for every 2000 points, so it's effectively like a 10% discount.

And with flybuys, I used it to deduct $10 everytime u go shopping at coles. Unless you are a strictly Aldi customer, then I'm not sure why FB points are useful.

  • I went to my local Coles today to see where the apple gift cards were located and I have found that the individual gift card had a perforated tab similar to the ones you find on apple products. Would you consider those to be tamper-free then?

For those who are looking to buy Apple gift cards, I am in the same boat however I changed my mind after the following thinking:

Say if I spend $100 on Apple gift cards in Coles, i would get $10 worth of flybys dollars under this deal, which can be spent at Coles. I also know, to have the purchasing power of $10 at Coles, I only need to spend $9.6 of cash (I.e 4% off) via gift cards.(many platforms offer 4% off for coles gift cards). This represents a 6% net saving.

I know buying Apple gift cards from MQ marketplace is a straight away 6% off.

Essentially I’m saying regardless if you buy from Coles or MQ marketplace, the actual saving will always be 6% (MQ 6%, Coles “10%” but ultimately “10%”-4%=6%). Hence I may as well just buy from MQ so I won’t have to physically visit a Coles😂😂

    • Its 10% minus 0.4% so your saving through this offer is 9.6%

You applied the 4% to the $110 when it only applies to the $10

      • Ah I see. It is indeed 9.6% off (coles) vs 6% off (mq). Thanks

    • It is easier if you have friends working in apple to get it for you with staff %.

      • What’s the staff % roughly would you know? I heard around 15%

        • Unless it is a friend or family I doubt a stranger on the internet will pass on the full 15%. For it to be worth their while, I normally get the higher spec models.

  • Dumb Q: if i buy something for say $299 at Apple, can I use 3*$100 GCs?

    • Load to your apple ID account and then use whatever balance

  • Can Apple account balance be used in-store?

    • +1

This is something recent Apple introduced for Australia as I believe it has been available in some overseas countries but I haven't seen people talked about it. If you have iPhone or maybe any iOS device that supports Apple Pay, you can add your Apple account to your wallet. Then you should be able to use it to pay at the Apple store.

I haven't tried it yet, but I have just added it to my Wallet.

      https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/1ei7htp/wallet_app_s…

    • +1

Yes you can make your Apple balance available in your Apple wallet which you then use to pay instore

  • Once I’ve collected the 20x points, can I use Flybuys dollars to buy apple gift cards in store ?

    • I highly doubt it.

It is against the terms and conditions of Flybuys Dollars to use them as a payment method for gift cards:

      Redeeming Flybuys Dollars

Flybuys Dollars may be used in a transaction at a participating store as payment or part payment for purchases (excluding gift cards, iTunes cards and smoking/tobacco product purchases). If you don’t use all your Flybuys Dollars in the transaction, they’ll remain on your card to be used in the future. When paying with Flybuys Dollars you’ll need to present your physical Flybuys card and enter the PIN set up when loading your card. Flybuys Dollars cannot be used via the barcode on the back of any credit card on which you can collect points (e.g Coles Mastercard), or where you may have stored the Flybuys barcode digitally (e.g. the Flybuys app).

Coles’ checkouts should also automatically reject Flybuys Dollars as a payment method. The last time I tried a few weeks ago when purchasing a gift card, when I chose Card on the EFTPOS terminal and then swiped my Flybuys card, the EFTPOS terminal responded with Invalid Product Mix and a pop-up message appeared on the checkout screen saying that my payment method cannot be used for the purchase.

You can always give it a go if you want!

  • Just tried to buy some at my local coles and they said that there’s an error and the cards are not verifying. They have taken the rest of the cards off the shelves and told me I can come back and try in the afternoon. Anyone else have a similar experience?

    • Which Coles? Is it also normal for Coles not to have any? First time trying to get them lol

  • I have a bunch of coles gift cards - will I still qualify for 20x Flybuys points if I buy an apple gift card using these?

    • It is against the Gift Card Terms of Use for Coles gift cards to use them as a payment method for any gift cards.

If you attempt to use a Coles gift card as a payment method when purchasing any gift cards at Coles (including Apple gift cards), you should trigger an Invalid Product Mix error on the EFTPOS terminal and a pop-up message should appear on the checkout screen saying your payment method cannot be used for the purchase. You can always give it a go though.

  • Local store staff told me maximum 5 per person.

    • +1

Just ask for the Manager - the standard checkout operator can’t do anything without the manager over ride
Today initially I had to buy 25 x $100 cards as there were no variable ones on the shelf but when the Manager came over they went over and magically presented me with 5 x $500 variable value cards (or just wall out of the store after one purchase and come back and go to a different operator to buy more cards
Their rules make no sense - is is a value they’re limited to or is it a physical number of cards - there’s not justifiable logic associated with their initial position

  • doesnt say anywhere but does this apply to the Variable load gift card ($20-$500) also?

    • +2

      It should, because:

      • There is no mention in the deal terms and conditions of the variable load denomination being excluded.

      • This deal in the Coles weekly catalogue includes a photo of the variable load denomination. It would be a bit odd for Coles to show a photo of the variable load denomination when advertising this deal if it was actually excluded from this deal.

  • +8

Went into my local Coles this morning and got some of the $20- $500 variable gift cards to purchase an iphone.

Went through the self-serve checkout, the attendant was friendly and handed me one of the scam flyers (people fall for scams by purchasing large denomination gift cards apparently). When the amount went over $1,000, she was called over again to approve the transaction, and after the 4th card there was a warning that I had exceeded the purchase limit, again, she was able to override this.
After the payment processed it took a minute or two to activate the cards.

Went back to my car and went to the apple store on my phone, redeemed the cards and paid $15 for same day delivery, and now have my new phone.
Now just waiting on the flybuys points to hit my account!

    • Fast and sweet!

Planning to go at lunch break. Just wondering could we use coles gift card to pay? Thanks!

    • Have you received the FB points? I am still waiting for 5x$200 ones and wondering if I should also get some $500 ones again.

      • +3

FB points always after 24 hours - the next day after 5pm

        • Ah good to know, thanks!

    • +1

Hello, I also purchased it yesterday. Do the bonus point and normal points come separate? 2150 landed but the bonus didn't hit yet….!

      • +1

        I’m facing the same issue

  • with the variable amount cards, do you tell the cashier the amount you want?

    • +3

Yes you need to tell them or if you are using self checkout, then you enter the value you want in it.

      • thanks. didn't even know you could buy gift cards at self checkout. always thought they needed staff to authorize

        • +2

Still need staff authorisation. The staff who stands around the self checkout will authorised it.

  • Well, I F'd up and forgot to scan flybuys when buying the cards. Did scan straight after through front desk though via the receipt. Please pray for me so I get the 20x points.

  • anyone transferring their pts to velocity?

think we will make it in time for the 5 million points promo which ends tomorrow?

    • Nope - better wait flybuys promotion 5-20% transfer to velocity

      • these are typically not available if you've previously used auto-transfer:

This offer is not available to members who have already completed an Auto Transfer prior to the Promotion Period

I bought 4x $500 apple gift cards and I didn't see a single flybuy points?

I used my flybuy cards though

    • +5

Flybuys don't show up straight away like Woolies Everyday Rewards. Check tomorrow or a day or two after.

    • Mine still haven't posted after this morning, will check again tomorrow

      • +1

Flybuys points earned from in-store transactions at Coles are only posted once a day around 4:30pm Sydney/Melbourne time.

    • How many should you get ? Cheers

  • Went to Coles this morning feeling happy and came back with a tampered gift card. Should have read the comments on this forum beforehand. Now need to wait for Coles Customer Support to investigate and issue a refund (fingers crossed). Is there anything I can do if they decide not to issue the refund?

    • were there any indications on the package to indicate it was tampered?

      • +1

No, it was perfectly sealed as usual. However, I did notice that the serial number was different and the denomination of the inside card was $200 (instead of $100). That’s when I started reading this forum and realised that it’s probably a tampered gift card.

        • wait, if the denomination was different woulnd't you have known this at checkout. you said denomination inside was $200, but label was $100, so wouldn't you have been charged $200 instead of $100 or vice versa, either way the amount is not what you bought?

          • +4

            @ironworthy: No.

The biggest issue with Apple gift cards is that the activation barcode is not physically attached to the same piece of paper as the gift card redemption code. More specifically, the activation barcode is on the packaging, but the gift card redemption code is on a separate piece of paper inside the packaging.

There is no way to know for certain whether the activation barcode is actually for the gift card inside the packaging unless you open the packaging before purchase and compare the gift card serial numbers on the packaging and the gift card itself.

Both the packaging and the piece of paper inside the packaging list the gift card denomination, and the activation barcode would be for the denomination listed on the packaging. That means if you scan the activation barcode at the checkout, it will correlate with the denomination you can see on the packaging, which does help in determining whether that gift card has been tampered.

            • +1

@WookieMonster: yikes. how are they able to swap out cards without breaking the seal. Surely we can tell by looking at them if a card has been tampered with. guessing it's not just a random thief taking cards and replacing them. sounds like it would need some sophisticated technique

            • @WookieMonster: does that mean the variable denomination ones are safe?

  • +1

Got some variable apple gift cards and asked staff how to purchase at self checkout. After payment screen received an activation error saying Gift Card load failed Invalid Transaction. The staff referred us to a supervisor who said we needed to ask Apple and i was like wtf. Kicked up a fuss then duty manager took a look and instantly gave the refund as the transaction did process on our CC already and all i had were unactivated gift cards to show for it.

    • This type of shit is why I just never risk these deals.

    • Today, I encountered a similar issue when purchasing a second patch for my needs. The manager at my local Coles was well aware of the problem and resolved it promptly. Essentially, all the stores were notified via email about the cause of the issue and the solution.

The problem arose because some Apple Gift Cards from different stores ended up at their store, which invalidated the transactions. The solution was simple: they just had to provide a card from their store and activate it since the payment had already been processed.

    • +1

I got the variable Apple gift cards, paid for them and redeem them on the spot

In front of them and directly into my Apple account

  • I know you can only buy $2,500 of gift cards against a Fly Buys account per day to earn 50,000 points - that’s clearly stated in the catalogue

But is there a limit to how many points you can earn per Fly Buys account overall during the promotion period? eg could I buy $2,500 a day for 4 days ($10,000 in total) on a single account - would that generate 200,000 Fly Buys points on a single account?

  • Just got the cards from coles. Wanted to buy $1000 , but they had only 1 x $200 and a few $100. The self-scan limits the number of cards to 5 per person, so i should only get $600 worth. Will need to cut another couple of trips

  • I want to grab an iPad for uni with the gift card deal with budget about $1000 with a keyboard and the pen and about $256gb storage, is the best way to go about this to go to the Apple store or JB Hifi? :)

  • +3

    Standard FB points received -

Bonus points not receive yet, normally they are 1-2 days later

    • Same. Just received standard points. Hoping bonus is coming.

    • Same here. Was thinking going to store to ask why I didn't get the bonus points. Good that I check ozbargain first. Let's see when the bonus point will arrive

      • The last time it happened- I had to call up flybuys and they credited it to my account 1 month later.

    • moo deng that’s bogus! Today was last chance to transfer for the velocity 5mil promo

    • Same. finger cross the bonus point will arrive.

    • Same, only got 1 for 1 points……..

  • +1

Bonus points gets credited within 2 days after receiving the standard points on the purchase.

    • I didn’t get the bonus points steer 2 days.

      Just standard points.

      • +1

Same here, called Flybuys now they change policy like the bonous points will be awarded after the end of promotion period, which is after 6 Nov, who knows. Just keep receipt and original GC.

        • Yeah same no points. Bit of a dog act tbf.

Warning for anyone buying the gift card.
I bought three gift cards where the serial numbers on the cards didn’t match those on the packages.
I couldn't redeem the gift cards.
I’ve contacted Apple and need to wait three business days to find out if I can get my money back.
Make sure to check the serial number inside before purchasing or at least before leaving the store.
If they don’t match, you’re facing the same issue I did.

    • Update: I was able to get new codes from Apple Support. Be sure to keep your receipt and the gift card itself. Also, don’t leave the card unopened and unused for too long. I feel lucky I noticed the issue and contacted Apple Support early.

      • Just wondering. Did U notice any tampering on the card

        • From the outside, everything looked perfect. But I noticed the cards inside had tiny scratches at the bottom compared to a legitimate one.

    • That's horrible..how could they do that with a perfect sealed case and swap the card inside….
I'd better check once I got home. Thanks for the reminder

    • I also fell victim to a tampered with $100 card from the West End, Brisbane store yesterday. Had to call Apple support and fortunately they were able to get me the funds back. Had later noted from this thread that it's best to check if the serial numbers match before purchase.

Visited the Old Cleveland Road, Coorparoo store this evening and whilst checking the cards before purchase (staff were kind enough to accomodate my request), I came across an additional 3 x $200 tampered with cards.

      Be vigilant all.

      • I fell victim as well today and I called Apple Support they asked me to send pictures of the giftcard and reciept to them. Did you have to do it or did they just gave your funds back over the phone?

        • +1

Yes, Apple Support requested all these details in my case as well.

          https://support.apple.com/en-au/108285

          Contact Apple Support
          You might need to provide:

An image of the full front and back of your card.
A sales receipt showing when your card was purchased.
The serial number from your card.

  • was able to purchase and redeem without issue but it got me thinking about the scam. Why would they need to swap out the cards? If they are going to lengths to break the seal, they could just take a photo of the PIN code as the card i just bought did not have anything to scratch. you peel off the seal and the Code is there. if they take a photo of it and wait for it to be activated they could enter the PIN.

    • Probably because if they switch out the cards, there is a higher chance of them getting the Apple credit. If they put the original pin in the pack, they got to put the pin before the purchaser redeems it so they got to keep checking frequently. Whereas if they take the original card for that pack, only they can redeem it unless Apple is able to cancel the card in time.

  • Purchased about 24 hours ago but no flybuy points appearing on my account yet. Want to ensure they land before i buy more.

    • Called up flybuys and they mentioned that it takes 2-3 days for the Std points to appear and bonus points appear 24 hours post that.
