Audio guru's chip in if these are worth the price. I think this is the latest model 'X' series. Don't know if these are champions with music, games or both, I bought it for music mainly plus closed design will allow me to sit on the balcony as it will block outdoor noise. I am no audiophile but if a better headphone can be bought at a cheaper price, post links or details in the discussion area.

Cheers,
DS.

what is the difference between these and M50's?

          ^also wanna know

Hi, I own both and here are my personal findings on both. The A700's are lighter on your head than the m50's and I tend to find that the m50's become a little uncomfortable after an hour or so use. The m50's however block out more external noise.
As for sound the a700's are pretty balanced, with hints of coloring in the midrange which I personally love, it really brings out the best in vocals, acoustic guitars and orchestral instruments. The m50's have notably more bass, great for dance, pop, and r&b music.
Which one do I prefer? I like them both depending on what i'm listening to (based on the above), but if I had a gun to my head and had to choose one, I'd go the a700's.
          Hope this helps!

  • I think the 'X' is for the new 2012 model. The older model doesn't have an 'X'.

  • Quite a bit of info about these here- http://kenrockwell.com/audio/audio-technica/ath-a700x.htm

  • i just got the 'open' version for the $110 delivered deal.

    FWIW on this deal:
very satisfied with the brand. great sound from the 53mm.
the bass is decent, rich and wide.
    extremely comfortable for big-heads.

Great brand can't go wrong with Japanese made headphones.

  • wow, you can get audiophile-approved headphones for $115?

    • Just because Amazon calls these 'audiophile' doesn't mean most (or even many, for that matter) audiophiles around the world 'approve' these headphones for their standards.

Then again, just because someone calls themselves an 'audiophile' doesn't necessarily make them so.

In my opinion (and feel free to disagree), these are entry level consumer-grade headphones. Whilst the soundstage and clarity of the A700s (and AD700s) are great, they lack bass and transparency of mid-level consumer grades and true audiophile headphones.

If you're looking for a decent all-rounder, you can do a better with the Senn's 598 (keep in mind that these are an open set of cans). Not sure if this link still works but if does an amazing deal:
