Nice deal especially with the Full HD display. NBD support from Dell is top notch and highly recommended if you intend to use this as your main work machine.

    • +3

Really? you had nice support from Dell? I brought a laptop from them only last week and I think I might return it. The support person had no idea and kept asking me to bring up menus in windows 8 and asked me what i did with the start menu. An hour on the phone with her and her only solution was to do a system restore which I dont think would even fix my problem and not really the answer I wanted

      • I have used Dell for over 10 years in an corporate environment. Never had a need to call their support (as our OP guys deal with them). However their technician would come to your desk installing replacement hard drive or motherboard.

      • I have over 8 years of experience dealing directly with both Dell's home support and business support. The support level between them is totally different. Personally I would say don't bother too much with their home support. There's never an issue for me when it comes to business support. I was unfortunate enough to use their 4 hour on site support once, Can't be any happier with the level of support I got. You don’t have to go through their scripted support check list if you know what you are doing.

      • Dell came to our home & completely destroyed a new & perfectly working laptop that just needed the lights & screen fixed. I would not recommend them to anyone & would never buy again. The techs get paid $30 per job flat rate & they simply do not care. Their customer service is located in Singapore & they do not understand Australian Consumer Law.

        • Completely destroyed? Please explain?

  • Nice. Is it touch screen?

    • +2

      No.

      • Sorry i should have asked this in the first question too. Does it have a webcam?

        • +2

          Yes.

        • +11

          Does it have… a dolphin?

        • No but it comes with a Hobbit. Enjoy.

  • +3

seriously, can any expect more for this price?
I'd get with Windows 8 and downgrade to 7, killing all pre-installed crapware at same time.

    • Yes you can, if your willing to keep an eye on the Dell Outlet and grab a bargain fast when you see it:
      http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/8086/inspiron15rspecialedit…

But for the price this one is extremely good. If I didn't just buy a laptop, I would definitely get this deal.

      • Hi mate, where do you get the deal on the image that you upload?

      • That link you have, is that laptop still for sale? Thanks

    • +1

actually, this thing's missing DisplayPort and dual-DVI - makes it bound to 1920x1200/60.

      • what comparable sub $1,000 laptop has dual link DVI?

    • +4

      I think you mean upgrade.

    • +1

Just reinstall from a Windows 7 OEM ISO. That'll kill all that crapware for you.

      http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-w…
(cannot find the actual MS URL, but the ISO download links are valid and legal)

  • great price, hoping for a 17"

  • I'm seeing slightly over $800. Did price go up or are there options to untick?

    • Did you happen to change to Win 8, then back to Win 7 again? I noticed the price jumped and didnt go back to discount until I reloaded the page again. Some logic problem at their end I suspect.

      • YES! That's exactly it! Cheers

  • Is the weight really 2.5kg?

  • does it have 32G SSD ?

    • yes

  • I would highly recommend you buy the pro support warranty. With pro support you speak to local call centre based in frenchs forest as opposed to an overseas call centre. Also the price for upgrading the warranty is quite good.

I noted that some of the reviews on the Dell website were not great (3 stars out of 5 - http://www.dell.com/au/business/p/vostro-3560/pd?oc=v5212b6a…) with a couple citing excessive fan noise, one noting washed out display and one noting poor speakers. Does anyone here have personal experience with this model that they could share?

I'm in the market for something like this for Xmas and this is looking pretty close.

    • -5

      I have this laptop.

      • +5

        And?

        • I have this laptop, if you wish to ask me any questions?
Is what it should have said.

    • No screen colour problems. Fan noise might be annoying though for some. Found that the fan continually kicks in if you open more than 1 webpage at the same time using MS Internet Explorer. Noise not too loud but loud enough to be a nuisance though.

    • +5

Sorry, my phone refreshed just as I posted the comment, and it cut the huge block of text written after the first sentence. Didn't realise until just now. Anyway:
-The FHD display is defiantly a nice thing to have. Windows looks crystal clear and there's plenty of space to multitask like you would on a bigger sized screen. The colours are correct as far as I can tell.
-The screen can be set from dim to very bright. It's even visible in broad daylight thanks to the matte screen.
-The speakers on the Vostro 3560 are just average for me. They can go quite loud but as with most laptop speakers, they lack the deeper sounds. Particularly noticeable in music. Thing to note is the stereo speakers are on the underside of the machine.
-The system has quite a beefy processor (i7 3612QM), and this could be the reason why the fan kicks in often. I believe the latest BIOS update made the fan kick in more often. I personally don't notice the sound of the fan though, it's not that loud.

Any more questions, ask away! :)

      • Is this still using the old BIOS? Not UEFI?

        • I believe it's BIOS. At least, that's what the exe update was named.

  • was better deal at $699

      :D

  • Anyone know how many usb port it has and whether it will have usb 3.0 port? I just checked the website on laptop summary but could not find any information.

    • +1

It has 4x USB 3.0, two on both left and right hand sides. Shame they didn't move one to the back. Would have made wired attachments a lot tidier.

  • I got the same laptop e few weeks ago (see another ozbargain deal).
I have replaced an optical drive with the supplied HDD, and a HDD with an SSD.
    Works really well.

    • may I ask where did you get the HDD caddy from?

    • does wifi work well given its metal shell?

      • +1

Wifi reception seems ok, nothing special. It's not dual band, just 2.4GHz and not the 5GHz

      • Yes

  • Looks like a sweet deal. Pity I have no need for another laptop… yet.

    • At Ozbargain you buy things that are cheap even if you don't have a need for it

  • Does anyone know if you can have the option to get recovery media?

I just noticed it says OS Media Kit Not Included. Mainly asking because I'm thinking of getting the Windows 8 upgrade separately and so if I don't like Win 8 (optimised for touch screen) then I can at least revert back to Win 7 easily.

    • Win 8 works fine with no touch screen ;) Ive loaded it up on a few work laptops for the bosses, who aren't great with computers and have skipped vista and 7! And they could use it fine.

      • Yeh I know it works find but it is optimized for touch screen and I don't know if I would like it..upgrades are cheap if you have win 7 and to downgrade to win 7 from win 8 is a bitch so I'd rather get win 7 factory then trial win 8 to see if I'll like it. :)

Does anyone know if there's an option to get recovery media?

  • Is the mSATA slot able to be used as a primary boot on these? Or is it configured only for cache/Smart Response.

  • 2 questions on this great deal.

Is it possible to change the graphics card? Simply?
    And
Can you rip out both of the HDD and replace with one SSD?

    Great deal though.

    • -3

Chances are with Dell that you can simply edit this(the change in graphic card) just before you officially check out.

Ripping out the HDD and replacing it with a SSD by yourself will remove all Dell warranties! There are many portable SSDs (for laptops specifically) around for a very fair price actually. If you want I can look up the deal on another website.

      • Says who? Most Dell hard drives are user replaceable.

        • Ah worded it wrongly. Meant to say that if you take out the harddrive yourself and something gets damaged during the process it isn't covered by their warranties. Unlike fall-damage etc.

  • You can upgrade (?) to windows 8 for free..

    • Yes.

  • Dell™ UltraSharp U2412M 24" Monitor with LED [$278.99 or $12/week-1]
OMG all time lowest price on this monitor, if you buy with the laptop. 1 cent cheaper then the usual 'deals' :P

  • Just bought an MSI with practically the same specs for 1389 (if not slightly worse - no mSata) two days ago.

    Kicking myself.

    • Don't, you will be so much happier with your MSI :) Dell look good on paper but even the techs that come out to fix them will tell you not to buy them.

  • Just wondering what people think about Dell Vostro 3560 i7 compare with the special at Bing lee a couple of months ago $699 toshiba.
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/82137
I like the toshiba one because it got a numeric pad but missed out. I checked again on the binglee website it is over $1000 for a similar model with windows 8 installed. The only thing I see Dell is better is that it comes with 32SSD.

    • +1

Dell Vostro has full HD 1920x1080 screen.

  • If anybody's interested just messaged Dell and got this with a Backlit keyboard for $789.31

    • Hi, could you give me proof of it so I can sent to dell. They are waiting for it.

      • I emailed Orders Support after I had sent in my order on thursday, asking if possible to switch KB to backlit version.

I tried both calling and emailing, never got anywhere with calling into their support hotline.

Received a call from Dell support over weekend (in response to email) and said they could swap the keyboard (no extra cost), but will delay shipment a few days. So I got my old order cancelled and new order setup with the revised backlit KB.

        Best of luck!

If you don't manage to get the swap, you can always try ebay.
The model # for regular KB is X38K3.

The backlit version is same keyboard used in the XPS 15 ("L502X"), Inspiron M4110/N4050/M4040, VOSTRO 3350/3555/3450/V3450/V3550.

  • Anyone bought this deal?
Have you got yours delivered yet?
I finally got sms advising delivery date which is 25th. Seems like it's not gonna happen obviously.

  • My tracking said it would be delivered by 26th Dec. But it didn't till today. So I checked the tracking and it says that it will be delivered on 4th Jan. Called them this afternoon and was told the best they can do is to delivery it on 2nd Jan. Tried to talk to the manager with no success. Should have received a call from a manager by now but however not. Dell slipped their promise to make a call even.

  • Received on Dec 28th 11am.

You can use the order number as tracking ID, check the three local couriers that dell uses (Toll, Starexpress, DB schenker). Mine was delivered by Toll, to brisbane. Courier did not call before delivery.
