  • Good to note that QF have updated the way their vouchers are redeemed.
Formerly the value of the voucher was only payable towards the fare EXCLUDING fees & taxes. The voucher amount may now be redeemed against the full advertised fare INCLUDING fees & taxes.

Only one voucher can be redeemed per booking

awesome. I fly heaps for work and spend a fair bit per year. Might buy a few grands worth

    • So is it worth it if you are paying out your cash in advance? (though I guess interest rates are fairly low at the moment.)

So how does this work exactly?

If for example me and a friend fly together, can we only use 1 voucher for the entire trip or can we use two vouchers? One for each passenger? Or do we need to book separately?

Also, why is there a selection for number of passengers? Does it mean all passengers are tied to a gift voucher "account"? (i.e. if you buy for 2 passengers then they MUST travel together if you want to use this voucher)

What if we also book hotels through Qantas as a holiday package? Can we still only use one voucher? Do we need to book each ticket and then hotel separately to use 3 vouchers?

Finally, do you still gain status credits and further points when you book a flight with Qantas using these vouchers?

    • Im also wondering this and if these are only redeemable via the qantas website or any flight center provided the flight is qantas?

      • Only via their website.

If you fly with a friend, you must redeem a voucher that was issued for 2 passengers if you want to be on the same booking reference. You may book separately using a 1 passenger voucher each, but you may not end up seated together.

If a voucher is issued for 2 passengers, they must be travelling together. You can change the names of the voucher recipients, but the voucher will be stuck at 2 passengers.

These vouchers are for flights only and aren't redeemable for Qantas holidays, hotels, activities etc. Also not redeemable for classic award bookings or any seat award bookings.

      • Does this mean I should purchase the vouchers separately so that we can travel alone using the voucher?

Also, do you still get status credits and further points when you book?

If you are travelling with another person on exactly the same itinerary then purchase a voucher for 2 passengers. This way your bookings will remain linked.

Otherwise I would just purchase two 1 passenger vouchers. You can still have the same itinerary but you will be on two separate bookings.

All voucher bookings will earn status credits and points the same as a fare paid with a credit card.

        • Thanks mate,

          that cleared it right up!

It is important to remember these CANNOT be used for multi-leg travels.

There is a way to potentially get around this, for example to book the first leg then amend it via their call line to add the additional legs - but that is dependent on their rules in that particular location. So I wouldn't recommend trying it.
