I hope they run this deal again from their website :)

  • what's the expiry date of the gift card?

  • Someone just bought 100 cards!!

    • +1

Broden? Probably planning on raiding their store on Boxing Day. Might be annoying for the staff who will have to process each gift card individually if that happens…

      • Broden legacy lives on forever…

  • +3

    Works @ woolies. a further 10% off

  • Just FYI, the confirmation page says "Estimated delivery: Between Thursday, Dec. 27 and Friday, Jan. 4" — so if you are planning to use the gift cards during the start of boxing day sales they might not make it on time.

Here's the ultimate ozbargain challenge for someone….
can you buy a gift card using another giftcard?

    1) buy 1 $100 gift card for $90

    2) use that gift card to buy another $100 giftcard for $90. ($10 stashed aside)

    3) use that new gift card to buy another $100 gift card for $90 ($20 stashed aside)

    4), 5), 6), etc, ect… until bascially you could have $100+ stashed aside + your $100 card… all for $90

    • +14

can you buy a gift card using another giftcard?

      no…end of plan

    • +1

everyone knows about this but it only works if they sell the gift card on DSE website not ebay.

  • +2

Why would they be selling these via eBay? Surely they would rather use their own distribution and avoid eBay fees

    • +1

After bullshit ebay and paypal fees, they're looking at less than $82.41, minus what it costs to hire somebody to do all this. Selling on the website would net them more than 82.94, but there'd be more work involved, and its seems ebay is getting them more business. If everything went the same way, they'd have saved 10k already, even if everybody payed with a 5% off gift card.

      • -2

It doesn't add up. This isn't a good way to distribute goods.

Looks more like some hacker broke into the FB account and started to post.

I'm opening a paypal dispute on my gift card ASAP because they only refund what is inside the seller's ebay account. I can close the dispute at a later date when it actually arrives.

          Overreacting much? lol

        • +1

This is just a way of getting a tonne of feedback on their ebay account which they have recently started

  • WOW. I can use it for my next year's grocery (woolies) shopping!

  • +1

Looking at the eBay feedback of '1' how can we be sire that these gift cards are fair dinkum?

  • Would there be a procedure to track balance of credit remaining those of us who might wish to spend or stack discounts selectively throughout next year?

    • Can check your gift card balance here.
      https://manage.everydaygiftcards.com.au/

      • That answers it, thanks may check it out then.

edit: bought one… Now to wait one week.

        • Card Expiry: 24 Dec 2013 Available Balance: $100.00

Right on queue, it has arrived and signed for at 1 PM. Great value.

  • While its 10% off woollies for now… What happens once DSE is sold off from Woolworths limited…?

It's definitely good if you guys can get your groceries for cheap but be aware you might not be able to use them for that purpose should DSE be sold off..

    • Surely the gift-card credit is with the parent company not DSE. If DSE is sold then it would make no difference.

      • +1

        DS has already been sold.

  • jeeze, people buying 100 at a time!

  • where does it say it works at woollies??????

and does it work in petrol stations etc?

    • it still does. not sure when it stops :S

    • I can't see the above Q&A on eBay site. Jon can you please clarify where you got the answers from?

      • I sent them a PM through eBay

      • i asked them yesterday on ebay Q&A and they responded it is wish card and accepted at all woolworths group.

WISH Gift Cards and Store Gift Cards are redeemable across all participating stores and now also redeemable at participating online stores.

Essentials Cards are redeemable within Woolworths & Safeway Supermarkets, BIG W Stores and participating Caltex Woolworths / Caltex Safeway co-branded fuel outlets. Essentials Cards cannot be used to purchase Alcohol, Tobacco Products or Gift Cards. Essentials Cards cannot be redeemed online.

Groceries Only Cards are only redeemable at your local Woolworths or Safeway Supermarket and cannot be used to purchase Alcohol, Tobacco Products or Gift Cards. Groceries Only Cards cannot be redeemed online.

Returns Cards are issued in line with the refund policy's of Woolworths Supermarkets, BIG W and Dick Smith Stores. Returns Cards are only redeemable in Woolworths & Safeway Supermarkets, BIG W Stores and participating Dick Smith stores (including participating online stores).

  • WOW. eBay should give them a reward for selling out the fastest.

  • Why did they sell on ebay and not through there online store.
The fees they would pay would mean they are only getting 80 cents in the dollar?

    • probably cause last time, they sold on their webstore .. people used gift cars to buy them .. so if they did the same one can get 20% off these by stacking one to buy another

  • I can't see any legitimate post here or on FB where it says these are wish cards. Is there any links. Also, on the other side of this Can Dick smith branded wish cards be used at Woolworths?

  • So I can buy 5 of these cards for $450 and buy a 4th gen 16GB wifi ipad from DSE for $499 and then claim the TRS for the $499 and get $49.99 back effectively paying $400.01 for the ipad?

Does DSE give an Eductional discount on ipads?

    • It would actually be a TRS amount of $45.36 (need to divide by 11 not 10).

      • Thanks.

So its $404.64 and I have a $1 credit left on one of the cards.

        Deal!

    • 498, price match from BigW ;)

      • Okay so its $404.72 and $2 credit left on one of the cards.

  • I assume these would be valid for 12 months. Can anyone confirm?

    • They are

      • Thank you

    • it would certainly be at least 12 months

      • Thank you

  • Funny, they have it advertised under 'electronics' instead of the usual 'voucher/gift certificate category

    • You get charged for using the gift card category.

  • Running out fast. Was 800 sold when I just bought another 10 myself then

  • +1

I want to buy it but my sceptical side is telling me there's a chance that it's could be fake. What is stopping someone creating a new ebay account with the name dicksmithonline and post this deal? Also the dicksmithonline ebay account only has "1" review, so it's a brand new account.

I'm asking the same question like many here, why didn't dse sell it on their own website?

    • +1

Announced on their facebook page. This has been covered before.

    • +1

You also get some protection cover by paying through paypal (eg. if you do not receive a valid gift card).

      • -1

Lol. Good luck on that mate.

Ebay only refunds what is in the ebay seller's account. If the guy is smart, poof, all our cash is now in the Ukraine.

        Free +1 for you.

        • eBay Paypal protection is the first line of defence (including hoping for eBay to make ex-gratia payment in the event that they cannot recover from seller, as per the protection cover T&C).

Second line of defence would be to call your credit card company to reverse the transaction (this is irrespective of whether there are funds in the seller's account). Of course this applies only to those who paid using their credit card via Paypal (instead of bank transfer via Paypal).

  • Anyone knows if pay by wooly's credit card can get QF points?

    • Sure can, just scan Everyday Rewards card as usual.

  • It is very smart of them to meet their December sales target this way. Whilst not a 100% of gift card sales total will find their way into revenue this month, a big part of it will regardless of whether these are redeemed in the same month.

    • Estimated Delivery Thu. 27 Dec. - Fri. 4 Jan.

Given the above, I doubt most will be redeemed this month.

  • And its all over

  • FINISHED!

  • wow didnt know they can be used like wishcards… cause i bought 5 of these last week with my 5%off discounted wishcards and staff discount.

This would mean i got 572.50 worth of giftcard for 475…too bad this deal is on ebay.

  • sold out!

  • Someone purchased 60 of them in the last deal!

  • Are most of you guys paying with Bank deposit method with Paypal? Just wondering if I should switch to credit-card instead so I can get more points =D

    • Credit card all the way…

      • +1

Until it gets declined for exceeding the limit.

Hmm, I can't see how Dick smith (a store gift card?) can be redeemed at Woolworths…am I missing something?
From redemption guide - 'Where does my gift card work?'

All Woolworths & Safeway Supermarkets accept
    WISH Gift Cards,
    Essentials Cards,
    Groceries Only Cards,
    Woolworths Supermarket Gift Cards and
    Returns Cards.

    • These are WISH Gift Cards with a Dick Smith picture on the front.

      • +1

The eBay listing (title and description) doesn't mention that it's a wish card though. Just wondering why they didn't just say it's a wish card.

Edit: There's lists of gift cards on the official site. There doesn't seem to be a wish card that has a Dick Smith picture in front. See wish card listing and compare with store card listing.

        • Yeah. Looks dodgy as.

If the person running the promotion knew that there were Frequently asked questions. Why didn't he/she list the information with the product description?

Either way, it looks like the person running the ebay account doesn't know what they are doing.

        • why is it dodgy. They are just covering themselves. It's a Dick smith gift card, as long as it works at Dick Smith stores, that's all they need to cover for. If it happens to work at other retailers, that's just a bonus

        • +1

The eBay deal listing is fine - I am just questioning the rep's answer about it being a wish card, since some here may have bought the card for the sole purpose of using at woolies.

Fwiw, I got this deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/48469
It came with the $25 DSE card and the $50 Caltex card (via redemption)
I had no problems using both at our local Woolworth/Caltex outlet.
Not sure if this has changed since DSE was sold.

  • Anyone read the one feedback that the ebay store has received? It says:

    First feedback, welcome dick!

    :)

  • I forgot that you can earn velocity points too on ebay. hope its not a scam as there is no feedback yet. anyway seems to be a good deal. will they run this deal daily now?

    • +2

They linked the deal from their facebook page, it seems pretty legit

      • -1

If and only if the facebook page hasn't been compromised.

        • if it's fraud, paypal will cover. There are far too many buyers for them to get away with anything

    • +3

Instead of been paranoid about it, why don't you just ring DS head office and ask them whether it is a genuine deal?

  • -7

Hmm, Yep, clearly a new user with 1 feedback selling an unlimited number of cards at ten percent below face value is legit

looks like there's 999 fools and monies that have been easily parted

    • I think you're the fool for missing out on this deal :)

I got my cards via courier today. Checked their balance online and it all checks out.

  • +16

Everyone can chill out. I called Dick Smith customer service, they confirmed it was legit.

So unless the guy has infiltrated the call line and this is his master plan we are in the clear.

    • +3

So the hacker is an insider? Then who can we trust? I think we should all just panic.

      • +2

…and what if Purt is a sockpuppet? LOL

        • This is all too convenient. I'd put in a Paypal dispute now and cancel your ebay accounts, they've obviously already been compromised. It's likely some of the B&M stores are in on it too. Could the whole Woolworths chain be compromised?

        • Or maybe they hacked Purt's Ozbargain account?

  • Well I committed to buy 5 of them. But haven't paid for any yet. I will probably pay by paypal later tonight. (As long as this story doesn't make it on Today-Tonight as a scammer story).

  • This must be all legit, DSE and ebay wold be all over this by now if it wasn't…..now wait until the next release!

  • i missed it again…. sigh….

  • can the gift card be use to pay for petrol at woolsworth petrol stations? anyone tried?

      • It's not hearsay. Villemus has shared with us (see above) the following extract from the everydaygiftcards website.

"WISH Gift Cards and Store Gift Cards are redeemable across all participating stores and now also redeemable at participating online stores."

DSE card is a Store Gift Card.
