              • @mctock: Thanks for the info mate, you've answered all my questions.

  • -2

anyone have issues porting to this from Telstra prepaid?

    • +4

*Available to port-in customers (excluding JB Upfront/Prepaid, The Good Guys Mobile & Broadband, Telstra & Boost).

I’m with Telstra too but cannot find any info regarding port out/in with their 30 days port out period. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I should be able to port out and get back in the very next day?!

      • +1

I got it having ported out around 5 days ago.

  • Do they still offer the $10 credit if you call up? Cheers

    • +4

No, they all act dumb when you ask about it

    • It’s kind of already there - this is their $99 plan for $89.

  • +1

Does the port in still have a minimum amount of time? I ported away to Vodafone on the 17th.

  • How much is the Voucher Repayment Fee if I cancel?

  • I have a contract woth Optus for my kid. About a year old on a 2y contract. Assuming I can pay it off and port my his number but Assuming I first have to apply to Telstra or is it just walk in and buy and go?

    • +1

walk in and buy and go. your Optus contract will auto cancel

      • Assuming i still need to pay the remainder of the phone balance

        • Yes, you can ask Optus how much your final bill is going to be if you cancel your plan.

          • -1

@KirKoloft: I spoke to them and they gave me a nice discount to match superloop lol, making the monthly cost only $45. Payout on the device is $600 so now they made it not worth it anymore hahaa

  • +2

FYI for everyone. I've been on Telstra previously, purchased an Optus Pre-paid sim, ported within 10 minutes, gone into JB then signed up to this plan and ported back in 5 mins.

    • How did you port back to Telstra plan?

    • +1

When did that work for you? I've got 2 of these over the years and they check the number I've wanted to port in had been it out for 30 days everytime.

      • They've never checked mine. Just say you want to port. If they ask, say it's been 30 days…

      • I did it around Black Friday this year.

    • perfect, gonna have to do this myself. Where/which optus prepaid did you get?

      • $2 Sim card from colesworth

    • So have I.. several times

  • I'm on JB Hifi mobile plan now. Can I port into a cheap plan for a day then and then port back to get this deal? Is there a time delay?

    • +1

Usually 30 days. Although this commenter has had a different experience, however not been the case by many based on previous posts.

  • The gift card offer ends on 27/12 and I believe most of the comments would be for the cancellation fee which is around $800!

  • +1

Go in - get 3 sims (buy 3 aldi sims for $5) - cancel next day calling telstra, moan a bit and they will give youback first 1 month fee and maybe even discount the voucher repayment.

    • Can you port-in a new ALDI number from the $5 sim to JB?

      • Also interested if this works, it’s not listed in exclusions but isn’t Aldi Telstra?

        • I'll give it a try… i've seen people port-in form ALDI to Boost with no issues.

          • -1

@abe465: Let us know how you go, planning to do 2x or 3x of this method

            • -1

@Jemz: Done in the past - not an issue then. They care about direct contracts, just cant be a Telstra customer. Aldi,Woolies, catch etc many others can be tried.
Cancel/cry to telstra (dont do it on JBHIFI app) and you may walk away with more than the first month charges and cancellation charges. (Mileage will vary).

            • +1

@Jemz: It worked no issues, just got a $5 PAYG sim no recharge

              • @abe465: An Aldi one or something else?

Did you buy $5 sim, put in phone and activate, then go to jb and sign up to plan and reference the newly bought $5 sim.

Just want to check steps before I do 3x

                • +1

@Jemz: Yep. ALDI $5 PAYG Sim. Activated, waited for activation confirmation. Went to JB, asked to port in that new ALDI #. Got the $1200 giftcard.

    • +1

But paying the fee for a cancelled contract is still a business expense and deductible

    • +1

      Whatchu talkin' bout?!

    • +2

idk why after reading this i had the law and order theme playing in my head

    • +2

What are you on about mate?

If a telco offers you to break the contract where you’ve to pay the ETC, how’s that against the Criminal Code of imprisonment?

If you don’t know what you’re talking about, best not to say anything tbh

    • +4

      Intern paralegal. Thanks. Next

    • You can cancel it though, they dont charge you for the 2 years, they only charge you for the first month and upto $800 for the voucher, and like others have said, if you complain about it to telstra, they even cancel the first month payment sometimes

    • Done this over 4 times and only paid $766 termination fee each… but (profanity) me right?

    • Alternatively you can get a Felix unlimited data plan for $40 a month on Telstra and save the $1200 to spend on whatever you want.

      This is a joke, right?

Felix have significantly worse coverage than Telstra, as an MVNO, and their "unlimited" plan only allows for speeds of up to 20 Mbps, whereas I regularly get around 130 Mbps on this plan.

    • +1

I'm quite impressed with how you've managed to be wrong on every single point.

      • It is a bargain; the equivalent plan with Telstra direct is $99.00/month (plus $10.00 discount making it $89.00/month, same as this deal, but without a gift card).
      • If you cancel, you do not need to pay the remainder of the plan itself; you only need to pay the Voucher Repayment Fee, which will be $766-ish if you cancel within the first month. Assuming you cancel in the first month, this means you paid about $855.00 for a $1200.00 JB Gift Card.
      • No one in this post has even mentioned anything about cancelling the plan claiming it on tax, so I'm not sure what you're on about. I think it's pretty clear that the Voucher Repayment Fee can't be claimed on tax. I note that you've copy+pasted direct from the CDPP website as well.
      • Felix Mobile uses the Vodafone network, not Telstra.
      • They have done it again in this comment

I’ve corrected them as well but still persisting that I’m making invalid points

      • Why couldn’t repayment fee be claimed for tax? It’s still an expense isn’t it?

  • Yes it seems the Definition of Voucher and Voucher Repayment Fee are different. Hence the voucher is boosted to $1,200 but the repayment is max $800 (less pro-rata for the first month and then roll the dice if they refund the first month’s plan fee).

    • Whats the difference, seems to work the same way

  • +1

If don’t see the deal here unless you need 300Gb/month, which is an insane amount of data for a mobile phone.

    • +2

Buy the plan, cancel it and pay only $766. End up with a $1200 gift. Money glitch

      • how did you get $766? Isn't it at least $800 to cancel?

        • No. 800/24 x 23(23 remaining months)

          • @Shad:

            • the $89 you paid up front for the first month. You may get lucky and have that refunded if you score the right person on Telstra chat
  • +1

Is this same as previous deals where you purchase plan and cancel immediately and you’ll only have to pay $800 to cancel the plan and get to keep the $1,200 gift card ?

    • -2

even less if you call up telstra and complain.

      • What have you managed? And do you mind sharing how you did it?

        • -2

I got the first month fee waived, then had to pay the GC value 765$.
          tried it via telstra

next time i did via JBHIF app and they didnt refund the 1st month fee.

Mate of mine signed up 6 (3 for each him and his partner) and had the 1s month fee waived (he said cooling period) and then made some drama about the repayment voucher and they made him pay 600 instead of 765.

your mileage will vary depending on who is your agent - definetly do not go via jbhifi app. call up telstra and do it from there..

          • @ffagz: Wonder why you got down voted?!

If its because of the lower than $800 charge, that i can vouch that i also got a discpunt when i made some noise about it.

            • -1

@jecec: No idea. The world’s full of sicko losers.
Btw my mate even got better returns. When telstra did the auto debit on his credit card for his 2 lines his bank blocked the transactions for fraudulent ones. He called hip made a fuss and telstra waived off those credit repayments. So for his 6x lines = 7200 he only paid 2500$. His case is ofcourse extreme and unusual but it can be done.
He called me up today and was quite stoked.

      • What's the number?

        • +1

telstra call center. or via app (i used that)

    • Seems like it

  • +3

Does anyone know if JB mobile uses the full Telstra network or the wholesale one? My personal experience is it makes a noticeable difference when you are in country/remote areas.

    • Full Telstra network 😊

      • Thanks mate

  • +2

So they have stopped giving this deal to new customers because of we all cancel the new number to merge it with our old account?

    • -3

      We?
      More like You.

    • +1

No, they changed their rules. It’s not hard to get a new number - pop into Aldi’s and get a prepaid $5 SIM card and away you go.

The rules exist and noting stops you taking advantage of those rules. If they didn’t want cancellations they can easily put full voucher repayments

  • How quick does port ins usually take? Will they give you the gift card and all prior to that happening or do you have to wait for the port in to complete?

    • +1

When i did this 2 years ago, gift card on the spot

      • -1

Interesting… so if someone accidentally gave incorrect porting details, they would collect the GC and the service wouldn't get activated.

        • No, they have to receive a code on the existing number before it’s allowed to port out. Thats for safety and random people just stealing your number. Keep in mind they don’t check for you as the owner of the existing number other than the sms that gets sent so you physically have to have that sim card with you.

    • They wait for the activation order (including porting) to be completed before issuing the gift card. For me, it took about 5-10 minutes for the port to complete from Amaysim to Telstra.

  • Do you still have to be ported out for 30 days or has it changed? I read the CIS and terms conditions and dont see it written, can anyone comfirm if they removed thie?

  • I only swapped to vodafone 2 days ago after my previous 24month 99$ plan expired, i will go grt this now if 30 days is not required

    • Do it and tell us. Haha

  • -2

so 889 or less for 1200 jb gift card? am i reading it right ? what does CIS stand for?

    • CIS critical information summary

    • sounds like someone's CIS-curious before they consider going "buy"!!

  • Easy $400 profit for new years

    • +1

Or $300 if you have to buy a new sacrificial sim card and they won't repay you the $89 first month.

      • +1

        Cool Thanks $300 it is

      • +1

or 400+ if they give you a portion of the credit back

  • Will the customer receive a refund if they choose to cancel the plan the day after purchasing it

    • not with jbhifi. se telstra to cancel

  • Anyone know if the salesperson still gets a commission if the plan is cancelled later in the day?

    • yes, someone working for JB previously confirmed this…they get paid regardless what happened later.

      • Good to know. That was a big barrier for me to do this "deal" too many times. I felt bad for the busy salesgirl.

  • Hi!

Has anyone tried the method of signing up on a new number to get the gift cards, then cancelling their exisiting number with Telstra/jb hi fi, and request to be ported onto the new plan?

    • get 5$ aldi mobile pre paid and port over. happy days

  • I just ported from Telstra to Aldi yesterday - Would I be eligible to port straight back and get this deal?

    • +1

get a 5$ aldi line and happy porting days.

  • -1

So you have to have a another mobile plan so that you can port in , no way of just getting a new number ?

    • -1

was in the past deals. they realized it was too easy and lots of oz rats doing it for the instant credit discounts

  • What do you guys use 300GB pm for?

    • Linux isos… on my phone… honest

      • +1

        Linux isos?

        • +1

          Fark… I feel old now mate…
