    • good price!

    • +1

      That price is super!
If it was an itx I would have probably bought

    • Wish i still had the skillset to DIY my own Motherboard, CPU and Case installation. I used to do it all the time decades ago but after my work stopped doing it and i stopped doing it at home, i just lost that ability. I can do Ram, PSU, GPU etc. but just that motherboard / CPU / heatsink fan installation i find very finicky and feels like i am going to break it. As well as not knowing how much thermal paste to put on

      • +3

Less is more. The thinnest smear/scraping to fill any air gaps and enhance thermal transfer. Modern heat sinks are typically much less finicky than what you were likely using way back when.

After not building a PC for 15 years, I made half a dozen during COVID after a few hours research on new ports, looms and connections. Like riding a bike.

        You can do it!

      • +1

If you aren't sure how much thermal paste to use you can always just manually spread a thin even layer of paste across the whole chip. I redid my CPU and GPU a little while ago and it was a lot easier and less stressful than I remember it being when I first did my CPU in 2020. I had to redo my CPU as I didn't use enough paste the first time around.

Some brands give you a dedicated spreader, but I ended up just using an old credit card or something.

Things have changed now mate. It's much easier. If you're in Sydney/Newcastle, I can show you. @lonewolf

        • Basically after not having done it for decades, about 6 years ago or so i had to do a RMA, i took it over to a mates house to swap over the old Motherboard with the new one. Everything went well except the part where we had to remove the heatsink / fan off the cpu mount. Those clips were so finicky and tight, it took us about 45 minutes just for that part (I think the removal was the issue, and not putting it back on but i could be wrong). It was a smaller case / motherboard (not tiny but just not a full tower case), not sure if that hindered things but since them i just never tried it again . lol

ARCTIX Women's Essential Insulated Bib Overalls Ski Bib marina blue (size XL 16-18 short) $16.40 (used) $23.36 (new)
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Arctix-14950-31-XL-Essential-Insul…

    • +1

Thanks! There's a few scattered sizes and colours available really cheap across this listing and a couple of others that seem to be the same product. One listing that says its "Classic" model rather than "Essential" model but after purchase it appears in the order list as "Essential" has Steel colour (size L short) with 1 left for $22.97.

Tip: To find the colours that have at least one size that's really cheap, click on a colour that has nothing in the size selected, it'll show the price as a range as you click through the colours; for any colours with a very low price, go through the sizes of that colour and you might be lucky to find it in a suitable size. There's a lot of duplicates in the sizes, so just picking one size won't necessarily show you all the colours available.

  • ViewSonic X100-4K LED Projector with 4K HDR 2900 LED Lumens $1,199 delivered @ ViewSonic via Amazon AU
    Merged from deal
    apply coupon on product page!

Similar price to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/902909, but with better colours at less brightness - this one is 2900 LED lumens, not ANSI lumens. "LED lumens" seem to be a marketing thing and there's no reliable conversion to standard ANSI lumens.

    TechRadar review: https://www.techradar.com/reviews/viewsonic-x100-4k

The Viewsonic X100-4K is a quiet, bright and capable 4K UHD LED projector with an attractive entry level price. While it’s a little too large to keep permanently on a table, once mounted on the ceiling it will turn any room into a home cinema or sports bar.

    Pros
    +Bright, colorful 4K images
    +Reasonably lightweight
    +Loud clear speakers
    +Wide Lens Shift

    Cons
    -No inbuilt Chromecast
    -No ARC/eARC support
    -Quite large

    • I like hiking as much as the next guy but are hiking shoes justified for the higher price tag? Do they really add that much more to them? Not talking to this shoe specifically but hiking shoes seem to always be $300+ RRP

      • +6

How else are they going to make money off an activity that is basically free and doesn't require special equipment?

      • +4

They really hike up the price.

      • hiking boots are worth it if you're carrying a heavy pack, but trail runners are fine they'll give you a lot more stability and grip.

      • +2

For your 1 day outing, not really. But
If you are going for multi-day treks, you are going to want proper gear. Nothing worse than sprained ankle from heavy load over uneven terrain, blisters on your feet from sweat or water logged etc. so yeah good boots make a massive difference between and a great time or a horrible time on a proper hike.
And proper socks. (Fox River OTC military socks are the bomb)

        • I have only ever been on day walks so guess my clearance boots should be fine :P

      This review is a worry:

Biggest issue is that when using your code to get in, you can put any sequence of numbers before or after you code and it will STILL unlock the door…we JUST found this out months after purchasing when my husband accidentally hit a couple digits after inputting our code bringing groceries in..we tested it and sure enough, as long as your sequence is somewhere in the middle of any number it WILL unlock the door.

*update After several rounds of email communications the company has refunded my money. They still refuse to address and fix the security flaws with their devices. They have zero deniability at this point that they’re selling flawed devices and deceptively marketing their product as secure. These holes in security can happen unknowingly and unintentionally, but the second you become aware of the issue, the flaws must be addressed and fixed and it’s as simple as a software update that eliminates the peeping feature that puts every device at risk. And removing that feature from the advertising and marketing. I really hope their software engineers and coders will address this. The lock itself is pretty great aside from it not being secure, which is kinda the whole purpose of this device.

      • The issue is that it would seem like if you type in a long enough string of numbers you might get the actual code within that string, so a kid playing around with the lock could potentially open it.

        • This is true or any combination lock….. you just have to hit enter more often.

          • @internet-stranger: It Should only recognise the first four digits entered, surely… someone else can list how many combinations that is. A basic safe operates that way but no idea. Wouldn't skimp on security, get a Samsung or something

            • @G-Shock: No that is less secure if you have someone looking over your shoulder waiting for you to enter the first four digits (that has happened to me before and they gave me some BS reason how they will never forget the code now as they have a photographic memory lol).

              • @videoman: Obviously don't type it when people are looking, and routinely change the code.

Would you want to put in a 16 digit code at the ATMs?
It's recommended to cover with your other hand for that reason, not too hard.

        • That review is a good example of why I don't trust Amazon ratings outright - I have to read the individual reviews. That user clearly didn't read the product listing and complained to the manufacturer because an advertised feature was available, demanding a refund. I pity companies that have to deal with customers like that.

The issue is that it would seem like if you type in a long enough string of numbers you might get the actual code within that string, so a kid playing around with the lock could potentially open it.

Digital locks typically only allow a few incorrect attempts after which the keypad will be disabled for a short period. That lock accepts numbers up to 16 digits long so a kid can't just stand in front of your door pushing buttons for half an hour to guess the code. Do note that you have to press the Ultraloq button each time to submit the code - you can't just randomly mash numbers nonstop.

This is not a feature unique to this lock; big brands like Yale and dormakaba also have this feature.

          • +1

            @eug:

Do note that you have to press the Ultraloq button each time to submit the code - you can't just randomly mash numbers nonstop.

That's what people don't seem to get. They think you can just keep pressing numbers but you have to press the button to enter after your four digits.

      • +3

They list that as a feature in their sales documentation.

        Anti-peep Tactile Keypad
Add random digits to protect your passcode from prying eyes. Easy to use with the backlight at night.

        • +1

          Interesting…

But that "feature" is also a vulnerability.

          • +1

@oz-dave: That probably would only matter if you had a very short code? You still need to have input the correct code for the door to open.

            • @videoman: Agreed; the shorter the code, the greater the risk, but any code is still more vulnerable with this set-up.

      • +1

I don’t get how this is insecure?
I bought it specifically for this feature. I can hit random numbers, PIN, random numbers then enter and it unlocks. Stops the kids learning the code by watching.

The only way that this could be a vulnerability is if you entered every combination in sequence then hit enter, that saves having to “hit enter after every code. Disadvantages are you wouldn’t know the code, and if the code was earlier in the sequence you would have wasted time.

        • Let's say the code is 4 digits long (you would probably make it longer, but just go with it for the argument).

If you had 3 x attempts of a code input that was limited to 4 digits total, and were then temporarily locked out, you would only be able to try 3 x 4-digit code combinations.

But if you can enter say 20 digits, then you are in effect trying way more than 3 x 4 digits because those 4 digits could be anywhere within the 20-digit combination attempt.

          • @oz-dave: I get it just a design flaw. It should only allow 4 if the password is 4 digits, bit sounds like you have to hit another button when you are done.

People entering 20 digits probably wouldn't remember what they typed in or which 4 digits within that worked.

Probably wouldn't worry about it but id get a better brand, what's your security worth.

        • Might be more secure in the way that if the same four digits are used, they could check which digits have fingerprints or are slightly worn and try those numbers only.

          • -1

            @skid: You need retinal scanning..

      • I'm still getting $299.

      • I had the same, $311.19

    • Did anybody buy this one? What's your experience with it?
I've tried with 3 different routers - 1 has a bunch of (old) smart devices connected, and it won't connect to any of them (2.4Ghz obviously).
I tried to have it clean by just pushing the button, at some point it said battery empty, went to the dock, (very loud emptying in the dock), started charging and after being charged … just stayed where it was.

      • Mine works but gets stuck under the sofa sometimes. Though I use the app to set a timer and for manual cleanings or specific areas
