Philips Robot Vacuum Cleaner (FC8802/71) $199 (Save $200) at Target Starts 26 Dec

70

Same deal as posted by theearth on the 15/10/12 http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/82101

Slim design. 50mm height. Moves by itself, avoiding objects. Cleans where others can't reach and where dust accumulates.

Good info in the community comments last time it was posted. This model doesn't seem to be as good as the Roomba 530 but is around $100 cheaper. Main differences that I can see is the return to base, virtual wall, struggles with carpet and not sure about electrical leads.

  • I am always fascinated by this robot vacuum cleaner :D

Bought the same thing some months ago and returned it. This model may not be worse than others but here's why we returned it:

    • erratic movements. EVEN IF it has a plan, it would run out of battery before the whole house is cleaned and then it would certainly not remember the paths it has taken
    • on the same note, if there is no door, it will go into the other room (i.e. from the lounge to the kitchen) and then not find its way back.
    • it gets stuck under the couch, under shelves, under the stove, between the couch and the table, on top of lamp cables basically everywhere. This means that it needs to get liberated ever so often and can't be trusted
    • it's not exactly quiet

all in all, it takes more time and the house is less clean

For a minute, I thought you were talking about your gf!

      • lol

      • never had a girlfriend stuck under the couch…

        • Mine's always getting stuck under the stove.

  • Don't bother with this!

I bought one from Aldi a month ago for $149 (it's exactly the same model just re-badged). Like others mentioned, it constantly got stuck either under furniture or with hairs in the wheel. The bin is so small that it literally needs emptying every 5-10min.

After trialling for a few days I returned for a refund….completely underwhelmed with the performance and I was willing to be forgiving.

If you're going to pay for a robot vacuum it's supposed to be to save you time from having to do it yourself. If you end up baby sitting and maintaining it literally every 5min then it's not worth it.

  • Do not buy! Target are so cheeky. I bought one and swapped it over 3 times. Same fault. The rotating brush kept breaking. It's clearly a design fault.

  • Clearly I've done better that many of you, guys. I returned two of these babies to Target. First one worked once and before it ran out of battery one rotating brush got stuck. Ok, got another robot next day and second one lasted few times only - same fault. I agree with Wm - design fault. Stay away from this model.
