Potato Utopia Frozen Fries 600g $3.90 (Was $6.70) @ Woolworths

392

Morning

Although on clearance but a rare deal on frozen fries at Woolworths. Most of them expire in November 2025.
Can confirm current stock availability at their Carnegie and Glen Huntly (VIC) stores. I am sure other stores would have these too.

Thanks

Most of them expire in November 2025

November 2025 is 10 months in the future.

      I know

But you incorrectly marked it as ‘past expiry’.
I had my post titled as ‘clearance’.

      • +2

My apology for misreading your sentence in the past tense.

  • +3

So…fyi Woolworths won’t sell expired food. In my experience if u get a nice attendant they will give you the item for free, if you get a strict one, they will throw it in the bin infront of you … much to your disgust lol

    • +9

I know, I didn’t write that and also, these fries aren’t past expiry at all.
For some reason the mods edited my post, I am still not sure why

    • +1

I've never seen that happen before (past expiry on shelf/given away)

  • I can't enlarge the photo in the deal, it just takes me to the Woolies website?

Potatoes grown in Belgium. I gave up on McCain chips when they went to NZ potatoes and put a lot of people in NW Tasmania out of work (they have now gone back to Australian potatoes)
I still prefer Bird's Eye anyway - they even say on the packet "Tassie spuds".
    My choice.

    • +2

Birds Eye garlic, herb and lemon are the best frozen fries out there, imo.
Pre-Pandemic they’d be half price almost every other week.

Also, never liked or appreciated McCain fries, they taste artificial.

    • Do mcCains use overseas potatoes now? Makes sense why I was able buy a bag of the variety "mcCains one" potato at one of those side of the road stalls near the farms in ballarat

On the label: “caution, product will be very hot after cooking”

    No shit.

    • +3

WARNING : Tickets should not be taken internally. "See, because of me they have a warning now."

    • they probably need to add "if not very hot cook for longer "

  • +4

Bought some of these a few weeks ago. The flavorings added make them taste pretty weird. They are not very nice.

    • Agree, not worth it even at reduced price.

    • Yeah I got some from Spud Shed in WA a while back 3 for $3, yeah never again. I am not sure if Belgium use a different spud but I suspect that.

    • I didn't mind the Parmesan (no actual parmesan), Garlic and Basil ones. The Rosemary and Sea Salt ones tasted wrong though.

rubs eyes these mfers trying to sell frozen potatoes at $10/kg?? Are they on crack?

these are downright the best frozen chips you can get,
      their product line is remarkable

    • Its not just the frozen potatoes.

      Ingredients
Potatoes (86%), Seasoning (9%) [Rice Flour, Modified Starches (Maize, Potato), Salt, Herbs & Spices, Vegetable Powders (Garlic, Onion), Raising Agents (450, 500), Maize Starch, Natural Colour (160c), Capsicum Extract], Sunflower Oil.

      • I was looking at the same thing. Only 86% potatos

    • Yeah, I thought this was ozbargain. I must be in the wrong place.

You know society is falling when no one wants Utopia.

    • Thomas More Utopia
Btw, Much Moore Salted Caramel ice cream 2L $8.50 at WW, I will wait till $5.50.

      • Any more of those old maps?

  • The fries suck but the potato gems are awesome

  • Anyone can comment on whether these are decent carb source compared say just a normal potato? Onviously many of these shoes as 4 star health rating but want to know whether they are ok substitute for actual potato?

    • Potatoes (86%), Seasoning (9%) [Rice Flour, Modified Starches (Maize, Potato), Salt, Herbs & Spices, Vegetable Powders (Garlic, Onion), Raising Agents (450, 500), Maize Starch, Natural Colour (160c), Capsicum Extract], Sunflower Oil.

      • Where the remaining 5% go?

        • Ingredients are listed on products in descending order by weight/volume so the first ingredient listed is always present in the largest amount. so the remaining 5% is made up of;
Salt, Herbs & Spices, Vegetable Powders (Garlic, Onion), Raising Agents (450, 500), Maize Starch, Natural Colour (160c), Capsicum Extract], Sunflower Oil.

          • @N15: the square brackets [ ] say most of that is the ingredients of the "Seasoning".
the remaining 5% is the bit outside of the brackets, so only Sunflower Oil.

I also don't think they need to include water as an ingredient, but i'm not sure how that plays out in terms of percentages they have to display

Shipping potato chips from the other side of the world?

Stupid. There's things that maybe need to come from the other side of the world, but it ain't potato chips.

This is why we're destroying our planet.

    • +2

Have you been to Aldi? Their entire product line of frozen chips is (and has been for a while now) from Belgium. Frozen vegetables. Belgium.

      • +1

You know a lot of people think Aldi can do no wrong ! :)

      • +2

        What a joke.
        Aldi. Super crunch Frozen chips.
        $3.69 1kg, every day.
        MADE IN AUSTRALIA.
        AUSTRALIAN POTATOES.

      • Says the Woolworths worker, lol.
        INCORRECT.

What's crazy to me is that not only do they not need to ship potatoes from Europe, but they are often cheaper.

Like Coles importing a lot of bread from Ireland.

How can tax law allow for friggin bread from Ireland to be cheaper shipped basically from the furthest point on the planet via huge ships with dozens of crew.

    • Walnuts: grown in California, de-shelled in Vietnam, sent to Coles, Australia.

  • Which Carnegie store

  • I foudn that the actual best friends are the home brand ones cooked in oil and seasoned with salt…

Dont we grow potatoes in Australia?
