Great. I've just run out of cartridges and need more.

    • Yeah I'm running low too.

    • why does this always remind me of that girl in the show Community :)

  • We currently have the "classic" cartridges which are more expensive than the Maxtras, but the Maxtras according to the box seem to only last a month while the classics quote 8 weeks. If the Maxtras lasted closer to that 8 week mark it might be worth swapping over, I'd be interested to hear how often people change cartridges.

The Maxtra box I have suggests 2 month use. It depends on the amount of water you put through the filter. Brita would like you to change more often, but I don't use the filter as much as a family would so I change every 6 months.

      • Strange the Big W box suggests 6 cartridges will last 6 months hmm..

        • Maybe it's for a 2 jug family?

          From the Brita FAQ:

How many litres of tap water will my BRITA MAXTRA filter cartridge filter?
The BRITA Maxtra filter will filter 150 litres of tap water.

Each jug holds about 2 litres, so you can work it out based on your daily usage. :)

the "classic" cartridges which are more expensive than the Maxtras

I bought a new jug recently for that reason. The classic cartridges were getting harder to find and as you say, were more expensive.

I change them every 2 months, but can probably get away with longer since it's a household of 2.

  • was looking at these yesterday at BigW and a pack of 4 went for $39 so i will definitely pick up some of these for the missus. if only this was on sale now so i can add it to her xmas gifts lolz.

  • Both filters seem to hold similar amounts of activated carbon - 'stuff', so they should filter similar amounts of water before being depleted.

  • does anyone know which BigW store opens on Boxing day? I am in NSW

Getting a Brita water filter jug was one of the best things ive ever done. Straight tap water is just nasty from where i live, very old suburb.

    • +1. I decided to stop paying 55c/L for bottled water (Coles/Frantelle).
My complaint with unfiltered tap water was the taste. The Brita water filter jug too seemed to have fixed that problem! :D

These things can be used to filter cheap-ass vodka into smoother vodka. Can also work for tequila/white rum, but vodka tends to work best. Go Ozbargain!

  • Bargain!!! bought two! I was forced to buy a 6 pack recently from the UK cause they were so expensive locally. There hasn't been a brita sale in a while.

  • Who is sourcing Brita Aluna $19 Water Filter/Jug from ALDI Thursday?
    Should go well with Brita '6 cartridges';

    edit:
BigW looks the better value, http://www.bigw.com.au/home-garden/kitchen/water-filtration/…, 71% more capacity — 2.4L comparing to 1.4L Aldi jug. "purified h2o" here I come.

    • I just realised both jug give the same 1.4 L of purified (both quote 2.4 L total cap).

Also interesting looking back to find (Lumina) 6 pack filters sold 19.99 at Aldi last year, although that's probably a less reputed brand. Could December be the discount month for filters, not sure so the safest bet seem to be to go with "36.75" as what appears is available at the moment.

  • Anyone know if these have an expiry date? At this price, I would like to stock up for a long time.

    • As far as I know, no. It's just vacuum packed activated carbon in a plastic cartridge. Not much to age really.

  • what was the normal price for a pack of 3? how much savings here?

    • Around $30 for 3.

Sold out at Macquarie shopping centre. I'll be stopping by Top Ryde tomorrow to see if I can find some or resort to ordering in bulk

    • +2

If you don't have any luck at Top Ryde, you can get them, not discounted as much, for $18 for 2 at Aldi.

I got a couple from Aldi rather than waste petrol and time trying to hunt them down, with no guarantee of success.

    • Don't bother with Top Ryde, they had nothing either, and wouldn't do a rain check. There was not a single maxtra cartridge in sight, not even a 1-pack or 2-pack.

      • I feel terrible I didn't reply in time. I visited Top Ryde first this morning, they had nothing.
I managed to buy two 6-pack boxes from Macquarie Centre … but it sounds like you visited there first spender?

        • I wonder if Macquarie just got some stock after @spender's visit. It's a shame that the online stock indicator is so unreliable - said "in stock" before I went to Top Ryde last night.

        • I didn't stop by Top Ryde. I was waiting for Dick Smith to supposedly get stock with their shipment at noon but their website said low stock still and they didn't answer their phone. Anyway I actually did buy the jug at Aldi earlier today. And as an after thought I should have asked staff at Mac Big W if they had more stock but it was too crowded there around 2 pm to bother.

  • Sold out at Waringah too, but there are a few Classic 3-packs left, also reduced, to $25.50.

  • Highly recommend you guys check out the under sink filtration with its own tap. Costs from 200 to 300 inc. installation, then cartridges will last longer, and it's just more convenient. After using Brita for a while and a few years now with an under the sink you will not regret it. We get our cartridges from Bunnings.
