Family Funday Sunday (Whole day travel for $2.50 per person)

353

Now, this is just in time for the holidays! And you were thinking that travel was expensive? Not any more with this deal!

You don't have to spend a lot on a fun day out for the whole family.

  • For a flat $2.50 per person, your family can enjoy a fun day out with unlimited travel on Sydney's buses, trains and ferries every Sunday.

  • To purchase the individual tickets, the travelling group must be related by family and include at least one child and one adult.

  • The tickets cover all day travel on a Sunday around metropolitan and outer metropolitan Sydney, including Newcastle and Wollongong.

Buy your ticket from bus drivers (excluding PrePay services), CityRail stations, ferry ticket offices and authorised newsagents, 7-Elevens and convenience stores.

Best thing is, unlike the "day tripper", which costs 16.00 AUD per person, this, for under 1/6th the cost, allows travel right up to Blue Mountains, Newcastle and Wollongong without paying a cent more!
See the Terms & Conditions from
http://www.131500.com.au/img/events/pdf/funday_t_and_c.pdf

(With Day tripper, you actually have to buy another ticket to travel to these locations from Sydney.)

Thank you Nathan Rees <grin>

And yes, Merry Christmas and a very Happy and Prosperous New Year!

There is no need to ask people at OzBargain to vote on your deals. If people like it they will vote anyway. Also, please work on writing more descriptive titles. "Family Funday Sunday" does not mention NSW or CityRail/trains/ferries or the cost of the deal ($2.50).

  • The conditions say that you need at least one adult and one child (person under 16 yrs old) to purchase ticket, and that you must be related.

Otherwise it seems like a great deal.

  • I think it is a good deal but can be summarised and maybe a change in title so it's easier to see what the deal is in one glance (such as below).

Sydney Sunday Travel Pass $2.50 per person
    • To purchase the individual tickets, the travelling group must be related by family and include at least one child and one adult.

    • The tickets cover all day travel on a Sunday around metropolitan and outer metropolitan Sydney, including Newcastle and Wollongong.

    • Refer to the T & Cs http://www.131500.com.au/img/events/pdf/funday_t_and_c.pdf .

    • All that you have said is already in the post.
What you might be suggesting is that it is verbose?

  • Terms and conditions happen to mention "This fare product becomes valid on Sunday 21 December 2008 and includes GST.". So is it for tomorrow only or will this promotion be on every Sunday for a set period?

    • No..It starts from tomorrow and is valid for all Sundays.
See the press release in the link above,

      It says
"Every Sunday from December 21 families will be able travel anywhere in Sydney by bus, ferry or train for just $2.50 per ticket."

I have to pay full-fare because I don't have kids? That sucks.

    • Go on.. make some :p

    • Yes, I agree- that sucks.

But when you voted negative, did you think that the deal sucked?
You still had to pay full fare before this deal, but somehow it is suddenly someone's fault that you do not have kids?
Get married and have kids ;-)
      Cheers,

      • Yes, I think the deal sucks… for me. Although I do welcome the State Government's initiative to get people back on to public transport, I can't see why Sunday can't be Funday for all commuters.

        • Ok…your wish. After all, it is your vote.
But for the free for all commuters deal, you will have to talk directly to the Premier ;-)
          Cheers,

  • This is to confirm that that the deal is good.
You just ask for family sunday funday tickets at the counter ;-)

We went to Manly beach with the whole family- and it was great fun!
Kids had fun, their grandparents had fun, and the best part, the whole family was together.
    Cheers,

  • This fare product becomes valid on Sunday 21 December 2008 and includes GST. A child is anyone under 16 years (ie up to 15 years of age), and school students aged 16,17 and 18 years of age attending NSW or ACT schools possessing a current 202 card or equivalent valid private bus school travel pass. Children under four travel free with a Family Funday Sunday ticket-holding adult. Fares are available on the Sunday of purchase only.

University students are not counted, my friend got fined yesterday because she was travelling with her father who was a pensioner, and mother who was an adult… This is not counted as a family, the terms and conditions were not readily available to her so I think they will be taking it up with a contract lawyer.

    • I had provided the terms and conditions in the original post, which provide the correct information clearly.
      http://www.131500.com.au/img/events/pdf/funday_t_and_c.pdf

See that second post by eDust on 20/12/2008 - 08:53
He also took pains to go through the terms and conditions.

Biologically, a child is anyone in the developmental stage of childhood, between infancy and adulthood ;-)
However, without reading the terms and conditions, your friend tried to travel, that too, from your post which says father is a pensioner, means that he/she might have been overage.

Sorry for your friend, but I can only say- Failure to hit the mark is not the fault of the arrow, but the archer's skill.

I am surprised at the people voting negative giving such reasons <sigh>

      Cheers,

      • You are very sneaky, that information was not in your original post. :O
Anyway I was not referring to your comment, but the fact that the offer was not advertised properly to my friend…
On the media they portrayed it as $2.50 for everyone, even in some of the newspapers; plus it was very hard to get your hands on the terms and conditions as they are not readily available at the ticket booth.
The person who sold the ticket at the counter was also misleading…

  • Sounds like Labor trying to appeal to the "aussie battlers" out there - families struggling to make ends meet on an average middle-class salary of a measly $50K. You know with the price of petrol these days, how is one supposed to buy their kids the latest ipod or iphone for christmas, or pay the huge loan repayments on that property-you-had-to-buy-but-could-barely-afford…
Thanks Mr Rees for helping us battling families. Times are tough and we need all the middle-class welfare that we can get.

Oh, no kids? Or living in a safe Liberal seat with no public transport? Sorry Labor doesn't needs your vote. Maybe next time?

BTW does anyone else think this sounds like a knee-jerk reaction to the highly unpopular plan to ditch free bus passes for school kids? Hmmm…

  • This bargain is only limited to families. I miss out so a negative vote from me.
What is so fun about catching public transport. How much is this costing the Labor Gov to subsidise?
The Labor government loves wasting your taxes.

    • This can also be a strategy to encourage people to spend on Sundays. Like Tuesday-cheap-movies. If the public transport system is under utilised on Sundays, this is a clever way to help families have fun and spend.

  • Travelling group does not have be parents and their children only. It can include grand parents, cousins, uncles, in-laws etc. If the travelling group is 'too big', they said they would ask for some proof for the family relationships. Otherwise, there is no restriction on how big the group can be.

[Those who voted -ve may consider borrowing a child from a relative ;-) ]

    • Borrowing a child for free travel?
I think the Sunday deal indirectly encourages people to have dependent kids.

  • so when is this offer lasting til? it doesnt say it anywhere on the site. does that mean it goes on forever??? :D
